I'm not completely sure he's talking *to* us in that moment, as he may well have been rattling off part of the 'reeducation' that presumably went through and was struggling to resist. As in, that line is part of his mind-break mantra to himself. I do know that 'undoing the surgery' is the carrot on the stick Walter dangled in front of 621 in taking the pilot there. But let's be real--there ain't no non-fatal surgery that undoes an augmentation of the brain that allows it to sync with the coral flow. I don't even think there's any proof that it can be undone, other than that promise being used to as a binding for certain augmented pilots.

Funny how that works. I think Walter's position is understandable, just very ill-informed and wracked with trauma. Absent the effects of that trauma and misinformation, he seems like more or less an okay dude. It's just the effects of that misinformation and trauma can't really be ignored. What is interesting is what he says when he *does* start to see the coral and notice Ayre after Arquebus throws him at you. Kinda makes it seem like he'd be able to recognize his prior desires as monstrous if he could actually comprehend that the voices that Gens 1-4 augmented humans hear is not insanity, but voices from the coral. I mean, his trauma is so bad that it's unlikely he'd ever reach that understanding, but it's interesting to think about. --- *No institute record actually says what coral collapse is, nor what mutations are, beyond the implication that theoretical models say they exist (just, again, with no specificity on what they actually mean). There is a moment in NG++ where a certain character reveals that Ayre is implicitly what 'coral mutations' actually are, which is to say more of a next-stage existence to the coral species. Which would mean what is regarded as mere mutation is just how that species develops from a sentient stage to a sapient stage of consciousness. But the 'fear' this so-called mutation is rooted in the perception that its just a source of energy, and not an actual species.

All of that is the remains of what Snail's programm overwrite, these words remains because it is important to him; his mission and 621. Through out the game Walter slowly open up more, being more protective of 621 and such; telling Michigan and Snail to respect 621 although it's a private call, so what use if it's a facade? what good would it do if he tell Snail to respect 621, it would fair worse acthally. About the surgery thing I wasn't so sure... I assume a multi-solar-system civilization could fix that easily but I there's a chance they did not. Next of Walter and Overseer. First thing first, Walter didn't worked with Nagai. If he did then he must be over 70 by now and that's unlikely. Remember, fire of the Ibis happened like 50 years ago, and if Walt was there when Nagai ignited the coral then he must be 20-30+ at that point; to be assigned in such important subject like coral need experince and I doubt a teenager would have that experience. And there's "Cinder" Carla who bears the name of the survivor of the fire, but that is a lie as other charcter affliate with her have a contradicting name "Chatty" stick not chatty, "invincible" Rummy weak af, "Honest Brute" Rat bastard. So when Carla ask Walt "How is he" and Walter replies about 621 condition and Carla then said she was asking about Walter, this mean they are quite closer than we think. I think heard from somewhere that both of them are related to scientists that works with Nagai; which make sense why they join Overseer. Next on Coral and Overseet stuff. Yeah Institude ain't that wrong for afraid of Coral mutation, they literally knew nothing about how coral acutally work, so they panic "why tf are the coral level rising so fast" if I was there then my first instict would tell me that the coral will go big kaboom, when I mean big I mean universal Kaboom. Although they didn't know what gonna happend they decided to burn the shit which cause a small kaboom, which still wreck the planet, but Coral didn't die... somehow. In that position the Institude have two option either burn the shit rn so there will be no problem or let the coral take it courses and wait if it go Kaboom or not, and y'know there're scientist so they choose the logical choice of burning them; believing that it will not go kaboom will need some faith but I doubt scientist have enough of that, so I didn't blame them too much. And same goes fore the current overseer, it's been 50 years since the last coral appearance and research and that mean we still know next to nothing, the only they learn is problably that coral is a life form(or maybe they learnt earlier I dunno don't remember) They still don't know what will happend if the level sky rocket too high or if they mutate. So this time they plan to burn the coral again with a bigger boom(That will wipe of rubicon solar system), hoping this time it will kill'em all and save the universe(which there's a chance for both yes and no for coral the actually gone.) The And for what would the coral collapse actually cause, problably the same as 3rd ending, I think all humanity will turn into a coral and get to use an AC for a new body... yay. In the all ending sucks 0/10 wouldn't try visiting rubicon agiain.

Honestly, as a veteran player I enjoy AC6 but this has got to be the most "anime" of all titles combined. The staff sword that you AC twirls around? Yeah that was never a thing in previous games, even the ability to kick...AC6 is like, a combination of AC5/ACVD principals and darksouls ass-fuckery

The Liberator of Rubicon ending seems like my kind of ending, since it’s the only ending where I kept my preferred load out for the final boss (MIND ALPHA armed with twin Laser Pistols). I purposely ditched it in the Fires of Ibis ending to signify how I was going against my principles in the name of fully completing the game, and I kept losing to ALLMIND/IGUAZU in the Alea Lacta Est ending, so I had to bring specific weapons that could kill him faster than he could kill me. I even called that version of my AC the “Anti-IGUAZU variant”!
His stagger window is really short so when I tried using the pile bunker it took a couple staggers, but a charged PB one shots him with my build at least

So this is the intended route for ng+? I literally just finished ng today and hopped into a bit of ng+, and I gotta say some of these new missions make more sense for the Ayer route.
I personally think this is the worse ending. It’s a bet, because if someone else gets pissed at the Coral we get new fires. [NG++ Spoiler] The Allmind ending is really bad too. The Fires of Raven is a bit drastic but overall the best imo.
So when dudes destroy sentient coral (as well as the planet and the nearby territory) that has never posed an actual threat, loosing the opportunity to cooperate and coexist with it forever (probably), repeating in fact past mistakes, but even with knowledge of a larger context, because humanity is so "smart" that it will try to destroy coral again without significant reasons at the cost of the universe - this is "a bit drastic but overall the best imo"?
Sounds fair, especially considering that Walter himself laid down his weapons in this ending when he learned and realized the context of our situation with Ayre and what it actually means. Like lol, even Walter himself admitted at the last moment that he f@ked up with this idea, having even less context than the player had and being unaware/unsure that the release of coral would not lead to collapse.

So this is the intended route for ng+? I literally just finished ng today and hopped into a bit of ng+, and I gotta say some of these new missions make more sense for the Ayer route.

I personally think this is the worse ending. It’s a bet, because if someone else gets pissed at the Coral we get new fires. [NG++ Spoiler] The Allmind ending is really bad too. The Fires of Raven is a bit drastic but overall the best imo.
So when dudes destroy sentient coral (as well as the planet and the nearby territory) that has never posed an actual threat, loosing the opportunity to cooperate and coexist with it forever (probably), repeating in fact past mistakes, but even with knowledge of a larger context, because humanity is so "smart" that it will try to destroy coral again without significant reasons at the cost of the universe - this is "a bit drastic but overall the best imo"?
Sounds fair, especially considering that Walter himself laid down his weapons in this ending when he learned and realized the context of our situation with Ayre and what it actually means.
Like lol, even Walter himself admitted at the last moment that he f@ked up with this idea, having even less context than the player had and being unaware/unsure that the release of coral would not lead to collapse.

My point is, Humanity will probably still try to burn the coral. So making it even more present is not going to be good. It’s not fault of anyone, but would you risk 100 people for 1? That’s pretty much what it’s like. Also the game specifically says that, if the massive Coral vacuum doesn’t get destroyed it will eventually get coral from other planets, which means that either there’s more coral or that it will take the already in use one. Doesn’t sound good does it?

"it's not fault of anyone" - tf if it's literally the fault of the human's, their inner limitations, essentially baseless fear, greed, short-sightedness, desire to destroy something simply because they can't use/control it, inability to learn from past mistakes and even maybe potential xenophobia? I see a huge number humanity's sins and problems exactly because of it, but not coral as such and any direct and confirmed threat from it.
Well I'm not going to sacrifice innocent and an almost defenseless source of intelligent universal energy and possibility of co-op existence with it because of some assh@les who with a certain probability are going to continue to be assh@les again. If it leads to any problems, it will be neither my fault, nor Coral's, nor Ayre's - it will be the fault of those people who arrange it because of the 💩 in their heads, not ours.
