I love Vancouver, but was given a sort of "cold shower" introduction to it. Over 20 years ago I drove cross country from NYC to Seattle in 5 days to start a new job, and almost immediately after I started they told me that I had to drive up to Vancouver for training, something that hadn't been explained to me when I took the job. So I drove up there, which took less than I expected, under 3 hours. And I was absolutely blown away by how beautiful it was. Seattle's a nice city and I miss it terribly (I moved back to NYC eventually), but it just doesn't compare to Vancouver in size, beauty and diversity. Unfortunately most of my time was consumed with training, which was in North Vancouver which isn't as interesting as Vancouver proper (although it's closer to the mountains and the Lonsdale Quay is really nice and worth a visit), but my hotel was on the Vancouver waterfront not far from Stanley Park so I went for a run there every evening and did as much exploring as I could. I kept thinking where this beautiful city has been all my life and why I'd never gone there before. And Stanley park is incredible, really several parks in one and perhaps the most beautiful urban park in the world (I used to live near NYC's Central Park which is amazing and it blows it away, hands down). By the way that bridge is the Lion's Gate bridge that connects Vancouver to North Vancouver (you can also take the SeaBus there, basically a water taxi). It's what Lion's Gate Films is named after. Oh, did you hear the cannon go off every nigtht? Scared the hell out of me the first time I heard it. And, definitely try to take the Coast Starlight someday. I've taken it twice, once all the way and another time from SF to Portland, in summer and winter, and it's just gorgeous. I prefer winter especially if there's lots of snow but summer is nice too. The train from Vancouver to Seattle, the Cascades, is also nice, and parts of the route huge the coast and are stunning. And definitely visit Vancouver Island and take one of the amazing ferries through the Gulf Islands there. Great video btw. You have one of the best travel and adventure channels and are a natural at it.
Wow thats for leaving this detailed comment! It was like reading a story! So glad you managed to get to Vancouver, even if it was for work - to this day Stanley Park is one of my favourite running spots, glad you got to experience it too! I have the Coast Starlight very high my list - hoping to do this within the next few years :) Thanks for joining our channel!! :D
I fell in love with Vancouver in ‘82, when I was 8. I was lucky enough to have moved to Vancouver island in ‘05 but I still love my occasional visits to the mainland. Awesome video as always!
No way, three times!!? Great to know these solo in the city videos are helpful- great feedback! And by the way - so excited for you to experience Van!!!😍😍😍
A great review 🤗 I'm more of a "sun vaycay" kind of guy, but Vancouver is gorgeous, the food, the hotels, the scenery ... I'd give it a go in the cooler weather, you've definitely changed my mind! Thank you again for such a wonderful insight to such a beautiful city. 🥂 I am so looking forward to the next video 😀
Yay thanks Dean!! Yes, for our 'vacays' we do tend to go to the colder places, or we picked 'off peak' times of year to go... this year we actually have a bunch of sunny destinations planned for a change so stay tuned ;)
Enjoyed your informative video and great video editing. I was in Vancouver back in 2016.. Exotic birds and plants at Queen Elisabeth park observatory and Grizzly bears exhibit at Grouse mountain tour were the highlights of my trip. Can't wait to visit there again!
Aw thank you so much! Appreciate the compliment - I've only just been video editing so that is lovely to read! Oo I haven't experienced those things before - will place them on my list for next time :)
Love Vancouver , we were there in 2018 and I remember the Chinese garden wasn’t free , we walked all the way there and I don’t remember how much it was but it was so expensive we didn’t do it , glad to hear it’s free now
I'm so happy to see a video from you again! i love watching your adventures, BUT i think you need to get Ludvig out traveling as well, I need his facial expressions and commentary. hahahaha you guys are awesome, love it, keep it up please.
Fabulous. Born and raised in Vancouver. Have done all the activities you showcased. Live by Stanley Park and the amazing beach and seawall. Well done!!
In the U.S. we call the Caesar "Bloody Mary" ! Sometimes it's made with tequila and called a "Bloody Maria" ! I never knew they had their own version in Canada. Super cool.
Thank you for sharing your little adventure was very informative, i live in Canada but have never travelled Canada, usually im off to Puerto Plata but this year im doing Canada and Vancouver is my 1st destination i will definetly check out that 5 star Hotel you stayed at I feel i need to be pampered, ok wish you all the best on your exciting adventures
Aw thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed the video and adventures! It’s not often we think to travel our own backyard but I bet you will absolutely love it! Yes definitely check out that hotel 😁
Next time, I suggest packing a lunch and go nature exploring. Start at the Lynn Canyon Bridge (a free suspension bridge), then drive to Cleveland Dam. At the dam, walk down to salmon hatchery. If the timing is right, then you can even see the salmon spawn. If you're feeling energetic, the Grouse Grind is not far away. After that, drive on to Horseshoe Bay and explore a bit. The scenery is gorgeous. Then head north to Porteau Cove for more views. Shannon Falls is next and if Grouse Grind wasn't enough, you can hike up the Chief. (about 3+ hours). Finally, drive up to Tantalus lookout, then turn around and drive back to Vancouver. (or drive on to Whistler) Try to time it so you can make it to the Quercus point in Murrin Provincial Park in time for sunset. The hike up there is pretty easy, takes about 30 minutes. So if sunset is 7, get started on the hike at 6pm. IMO, best sunset ever. Bring a flashlight because it'll be dark going down.
I've been watching a lot of your videos and I feel like you guys owe us a "get to know us" vid, I want to know all the deets about where you from and where you met etc.
Hey Amelia! So happy you’ve been watching lots of our vids😍 This is such a great idea! We did something similar to this in our hitting 10K subs video - we filmed a little q&a style video :) but perhaps we can do another more in-depth one!
Thanks for this. You’ve just helped me make up my mind to only travel on the Zephyr to Chicago. Can’t see the sense in spending the extra to go to NY with the service that you showed. But I am really looking forward to travelling on the Zephyr.
Awwwww thanks Louise!!! That’s the best news - so glad we are able to put a smile on your face!!! Thanks for joining us (and appreciating our weird humour 🤣)
Heading to Vancouver next week from the UK as a solo traveller. Thanks for the tips. Im sure its so last year but put wust er cher together and youll be close enough 😊
Maybe you should really show the costs of everything. Not just how good the foods are or how luxurious the hotel room is. You can get those anywhere but it’s all depends on prices.
What airport are you talking about in nelson? Unless you private charter or know something locals don't about nelson airport then what flight did you originally book from nelson?
Its the most livable city if your really wealthy or want to work like a dog and I mean HK style work 6-7 days a week 9+ hrs to be able make ends meet and enjoy life. Definately more like a vacation city.
@@chloeandludvig Cool. How did the California Zephyr climb and descend the Rocky Mountains? Driving through there, it has a lot of steep hills that cause truck driver's brakes to catch on fire.
Thanks for creating this content - I’m headed to Vancouver in November and I’ll be alone myself
Aw you’re so welcome! It always makes me happy to know people might actually get some ideas from this video 😎

I've tried a bloody mary before! Can't remember what it tasted like in comparison to a Caesar.... I'm sure it was equally delish, haha!
A Ceaser is with Clamato juice.... Bloody Mary is with tomato juice.

In spanish the name of that sauce is so difficult that instead we just say salsa inglesa = english sauce lol
What conference was there in San Diego ? And did you do a video while you were down there?
Maybe you should really show the costs of everything. Not just how good the foods are or how luxurious the hotel room is. You can get those anywhere but it’s all depends on prices.
Thanks for the suggestion!
What airport are you talking about in nelson? Unless you private charter or know something locals don't about nelson airport then what flight did you originally book from nelson?
To Castlegar airport
One thing you didn't tell us, how did you get around? Public transit or car rental?
I walked everywhere - I love walking. Apart from when I took the ferry across to Granville :)
