I'm in awe how even after more than a thousand chapters the Hajime No Ippo can still find interesting ways to illustrate motion in boxing. This fight in particular does that especially well. There's such a clear passion put behind the series.
Tbh I liked saeki’s style with rapid footwork, but he doesn’t use boxing strategy very well. His strategy in was to attack the right eye making it swollen shut and creating a blind spot so he could then disappear in that blind spot. While this is a nice idea, Itagaki is also an outboxer who relies on footwork and speed too. He should’ve went for some body blows to slow down Itagaki’s footwork, but he always aims for the face
Saeki was also trying to just close the gap between him and Itagaki, he never tried to take the offensive, only run behind his opponent. If it was any other fighter he might’ve pressured them, but itagaki has that Kamogawa gym stamina.
It would work very well in real life. People don't have chins made out of titanium in real life. So going for the head is supposed to be the correct choice.

Saeki lost to Ippo because he was predictable. It took a while, but Ippo learnt his pattern and took advantage of it. In the anime at least.
