The thing people gotta understand about Bill Russell is that everywhere he went, he turned the culture around. His college wasn't good when he went there but he went there and they won a national championship. Celtics weren't good, went there and they became a dynasty and all of a sudden we act like he was not the key reason for that dynasty.
As legendary as Bill Russell is, among the things I discovered when I researched him and the Celtics was that their championship teams were FULLY LOADED. There were only a few teams in the NBA, hence, less number of players. And the Celtics had a handful of the best players. Plus, the NBA during the Celtics dynasty years only had a small sample of the best black players in the U.S.. Because of all those things, yes, I would rank the great Bill Russell out of the Top 5. I'd probably put Tim Duncan at #5.
Media stay pushing this 11 rings narrative. Bill Russell the player is overated asf , he'd get eaten alive by centers in the 90s and 00s , too small for a center.
Plus the nba did not have free agency! People need to really be educated on why the celtics had a stranglehold in the 60's multiple mvps and hondo was a top 30 player all time in his own right
Also I looked it up BRussel was always outplayed by the other teams best players or players Baylor/West both outplayed him and he probably would have won maybe 3 FMVPs if they gave them out back then JWest won the 1st one losing to the Celtics and Russell was once the 8th leading scorer on his own team cmon

Era
Jordan won during the expansion decade. This was weaker Era compared to the 80s, 2000s. The defense wasn't as good as some might remember. All you have to do is do a TH-cam search on exposing 90s defense. Kobe played in arguably the toughest Era in history, in the toughest conference. Tougher teams, tougher defense, tougher competition. Kobe won without shaq, Jordan never won without pippen. He had a stacked team. Kobe had to fight to the nail to win. And Shaq never carried kobe.
He was never considered the greatest. Kobe is barely in the top 10. He was an incredibly inefficient scorer and had less MVPs than anyone on these lists. And everyone should read up on what Kareem did, he's undisputed top 3, and the top 4 are locked in stone.

@kenjones2181 must of those ppl are young and have never seen the older guys play. Anyone that has and knows basketball history knows that Kobe's not top 5. His unfortunate death made his popularity sky rocket and made him climb up the ranking in many ppl eye. Your know this to be true, that's why you wrote what you did. You calling ppl slow ones but I think you should rethink that. Your defending against a point that no one made 🙄🙄🙄 oh and fans didn't randomly chant MVP wherever he was, that's a joke. He literally got booed in Philly where he's from when he won the Allstar MVP 😆 know your facts. You must be young. He did receive love during his farewell tour and fans did show respect for all the hard work and dedication he put into the game. FYI other players that did a farewell tour for the same love from fans. That in no way makes them a top 5 player.

How about you take your own advice and get your facts straight.

The thing people gotta understand about Bill Russell is that everywhere he went, he turned the culture around. His college wasn't good when he went there but he went there and they won a national championship. Celtics weren't good, went there and they became a dynasty and all of a sudden we act like he was not the key reason for that dynasty.
but the NBA barely had any teams and the competition was poor
Doesn't matter. Bill Russel shouldn't be in anyone's top 5.
@@samwilson459790s competition was poor compared to the 2000s
And Kareem didn't do that.
Funny how she says magic and LeBron are the same player and then the crowd chants Kobe as if he isn't Jordan clone 😂
Bill Russell the player is overated asf , he'd get eaten alive by centers in the 90s and 00s , too small for a center.
i would put bird at 5, but bill russell has to be in the top 10
Plus the nba did not have free agency! People need to really be educated on why the celtics had a stranglehold in the 60's multiple mvps and hondo was a top 30 player all time in his own right
Also I looked it up BRussel was always outplayed by the other teams best players or players Baylor/West both outplayed him and he probably would have won maybe 3 FMVPs if they gave them out back then JWest won the 1st one losing to the Celtics and Russell was once the 8th leading scorer on his own team cmon
Duncan and Kobe clearly.. a lot of guys would be ahead of Russell if we just judge by talent.. KG, KD, Steph, Dirk, Bird..... soon to be Giannis and Jokic
I know everyone has their opinion on Top 5 but how is Tim Duncan not Top 5? didn’t have the stacked teams like the rest of the top 5 that SAS had. Just something to consider
They were pretty stacked considering he played with 5 hall of famers..(admiral and then played with manu, Parker and Leonard) I think timmy is a borderline top 5 or the very least top 7.
Tim Duncan is a goat but not top 5. This guy had one of the greatest teams and coach of all time. Manu Ginobli came off the bench in his prime 😂 he had a healthy Kawhi and David Robinson. That’s just two players. Tim is one of my favorite players of all time but other than Jordan who from the bulls is a better player than Kawhi or David Robinson? I’ll take Tony Parker of Bj Armstrong and John Paxton any day😂 and that’s the Bulls..we not even talking about Bills teammates who most can’t even name.
@@SundayVibesmusic do you know who was on the lakers in the 80s? and who coached them? How about the bulls and their coach? How bout Lebrons teams and his coaches for his first 3 chips? ALL of them had stacked teams and coaches, maybe the bulls less so, but relatively stacked when compared to their opponents during their time
The Spurs were great in the 1990s made WCF in 95 with D Robinson winning MVP and they won 60 games and lost to KD Warriors in 2017WCF the season after he retired which if Kawhi doesn’t get hurt Spurs maybe win the title people throw his team success way to much into Duncan’s all time case
Duncan is rank 6 all time in my opinion, but having him rank 5 or 7 all time makes sense too.
We need to stop the lies…Bron literally had 2 game winners in his first playoff series in 2006 and hit game winning shots including one after asking for the Kobe 1v1 over Kobe in Staples before he went to Miami…why do y’all ignore MJs chokes before he won? ORL series he had a clutch buzzer beater in game 2 and FTs to send game 4 into OT, all Bron needed was help to win he always had that dawg in him…if Cleveland drafted a Pippen for him he woulda been fine then too…Miami move did elevate him tho
And everything I said is facts, no disputing it…facts don’t care about your feelings

@@LeSteelercool with what you said but if we taking everything you saying into consideration, Magic will be the GOAT because he never really chocked like MJ and Bron. Also, won an MVP and title as a rookie. With all that accomplishment, we still say Bron and MJ are better than him and even Kareem. But after that is said, something gotta give between MJ and Bron. Then we would say MJ had more moments at his peak than Bron and Bron played more. MJ also won all the games he was supposed to win but Bron didn’t. Bron came back from 3-1 against the best team in NBA history in GSW but one might even argue that the team wasn’t the same mentally after Draymond’s ejection.
