    In this video I didn't talk about control surfaces, which I think is an important part of the overall setup. Should I do a video about setting up control surfaces? Nothing beats having fingers on faders!

    Wow, what a massive setup, at my church we're lucky to have one person to do the lot (me), AV slides, sound (analogue Yamaha MG20XU), two PTZ cams, and streaming (OBS), all done in the actual church, no side rooms etc.
    Most who walk up usually run the other way when asked to help.
    Luckily bands tend to be 4 mics and one guitar or keyboard.

      we've got all the items in and connected according to the diagram. we're using ableton live. have Dante coming over from our A&H SQ6. I guess I'm wondering how is the output getting out to the BMD mini converter from our ableton mac? I was thinking it would come up in the Dante controller to route it, but it's not. I hope I'm making sense.

      If this is more in depth, we're totally open to paying you to consult with our church.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In Dante Controller, you won't see ableton, but only your Mac as the device. So just like you are routing your audio from the SQ to the Mac, you need to route output 1&2 from the mac to your Dante AES output device. (Then in Ableton route your master mix to Dante output 1&2.) Some people are confused by the fact that they route audio to input 1&2 of the Mac and then output to 1&2 as well. They are not the same thing, they are totally different audio paths. (If you'd like to do a consulting call, I can remote into your machine, I'd be happy to set that up with you sometime, just get in touch with me on my facebook page - linked up in the description of this video.)

    Love your videos, and while I would love to be able to have a setup like this, my church just can’t afford this. Could I use VSTs on OBS to even get close to that second recording you showed? • @mtso1122
      @mtso1122 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have a digital mixer, you will be able to connect to the computer through USB or Firewire instead of dante. If you use VST on OBS, you are applying the effects to just 2 channels (left/right). You can still add some effects for sure, but you will not have full control for all channels like a virtual mixer by using DAW.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can use VST plugins in OBS, but essentially, you're just inserting the plugins on your master bus/mix, which while is important, is only about 1/10th of crafting an overall mix. Like I say in the first video of this series, start a road map, what is one thing you can do to take a step in the right direction.

    I have a few questions regarding injecting audio via AES. So it looks like you are injecting the program out. Which encoder do you guys use and how would you get that into OBS/Streamlabs?
    Secondly, is it possible to inject the audio into the converter and into an SDI input of the atem and would that cause a lost of audio quality?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Take the SDI output of the audio embedder and run that to an SDI capture device (I like the AJA U-tap SDI: amzn.to/3SiNlJr) I don't think running it back to the ATEM would have the desired effect, because essentially you'd still have the same audio level issues on the output.

    Hi thanks for making these videos, you have been most generous with you time.
    It’s interesting that you have mentioned about the switcher unable to handle modern broadcast level audio (-10 to -14 LUFS short term and -14 LUFS long term). We use a Aja Ki pro Ultra 12G and feed it with analogue audio from broadcast console, when the stream is live on TH-cam the audio sounds ok but the recorded audio on the video changes the stereo image as well as tonal balance. Wanted to know if this is also a know issue on AJA Ki pro devices when feeding analogue audio. Usually the meters on the Ki Pro are in red when receiving broadcast level audio.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What are you using for your Dante switch? Sync issues have been reported if you use a wireless router as your main connection for Dante. Better setup is to connect all Dante devices to a dedicated gigabit switch, and then connect your wireless router to that if you need an access point for control of the mixer, etc.

      If you're using the BM audio embedder, first thing I would say is to check the switches on the side of the unit. They are very confusing what is actually on and off, and what they are meaning in the manual as on and off. But you'll want to get the AES channel 1&2 turned on to SDI channel 1&2. And make sure in Dante Control you have gone in through the Device Config tab of the AVIO AES and set its sample rate to whatever you're using for Dante's clock frequency.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately, I've been looking at the solution for analog for a while, and every time I do, the math doesn't work out. It ends up being cheaper to purchase a new digital mixer that supports some way of getting audio into your computer/DAW, then trying to come up with a way to bring in a lot of audio channels from analog.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, the Qu16 doesn't have the capability to add an expansion card, so you'd have to use the USB connection to send audio out to a DAW. USB extenders (e.g. convert to cat cable, etc) are usually hit or miss in their ability to actually sustain data rates needed for audio. Most are made to extend keyboard and mouse, not transmit multi-channels of audio data reliably. *I have not used this product* but I have heard of people having success doing this with the Gefen EXT-USB2.0-LR (amzn.to/48O9jee). Otherwise, another approach would be to position the computer close to your mixer and remote into it for control and send long audio cables for monitoring.

      Does it provide each channel output to the USB? You could use USB to send to your computer. That approach does have a few obstacles though. You are limited in the distance the DAW computer can be from the mixer. (USB doesn't do well over long distances) and you will need to figure out a different monitoring/routing solution then what I show in these videos because you can't route back out to Dante.

      Reaper won't show up. The computer that is running DVS (Dante Virtual Soundcard) will be what is showing up in Controller. Dante controller just sees Dante devices on the network, in most cases for the computer, when you run DVS that becomes the dante device that you will see on the network to route to and from.
