Yeah, the Wulfen got hit hard. They used to fight automatically and had access to Thunder Hammers. Thunderwolf Cavalry also lost access to their better weapons, which is unfortunate. :( I am kinda used to my Wolves being the lesser of the melee armies.
Ex-wolf player. They just do not feel like space vikings any more. Even in 9th. They became vanilla Astartes in Fenrisian Armour. Such a waste of a great and fun army to play. Two editions in a row...
I think it highlights how poor this index is when 2 of the 'top 5' units for the army are actually 'these are bad but i know people like them so here's the datasheet'. Glad i have decided to start nids as my second army.
Wulfen was auto fight on death before. I also love my thunder wolves but have them with duel frost claws, axes and shields so not sure how I'm going to run them now. I think wolf guard also lost jetpacks. Not good
This is probably the worst changes I've ever seen to the army. Wulfe are terrible, even if they were cheap I can't think of any reason to take them. Calvary suck, hammers are gone, no adv and charge. Just so mediocre. Wolf guard no longer get jumpacks. Yeah the characters are good, but that's every army. This is bad, like really bad.
Some of the changes are disgusting, however Wulfen dreadnoughts and murderfang are beasts now. That and helfrosters are more useful now. Iron priests can pack a wollop if a vehicle is destroyed nearby. Sagas I feel may be tricky to accomplish, particularly since it's only 1 per turn.
This is an absolute disgrace! They took all of the iconic units excluding characters and just killed them. Also, they start the game with a huge disadvantage to try to be better turn 4 and 5 when most of your stuff is already dead lol. This is the biggest joke of 10th edition.
The wulfen are a really shocking drop in effectiveness. The only thing I can think for that is that GW might drop their points considerably and encourage them as a chaffy, hordey type unit. Other things I'm not so down on. I havent really checked out other indecies but it looks like wolves can get decent access to sustained hits. Maybe volume of attacks over heavy hitting? Either way, looks like a tricky force to steer effectively
Grey hunters. Good unit. Able to shoot after falling back or advancing. Wulfen got nerfed in 9th, now they’ve been hit harder. Similar durability. In 9th at least the damage output justified taking them compared with how much they can take.
Idk.. I won tournaments with wolves in 9th. And I feel like I have a good chance to do so in 10th but to each their own! I just hope you guys can have some fun in future games
We got neutered hard in this index. Lost all our custom weapons for wolf guard can't even have a eolf priest (chaplain) on bike lead a thunder cav charge, lost jump pack wolf guard too and wulfen are pointless to take now. Might as well use my wolves as ultras and call it a day
I might be wrong, but to me it's strange that people are not talking about MurderFang a bit more. Sure he will not score any objective points (having 0 OC) but my brother in christ, he can attack normaly IF attacked. Combine it with an Iron Priest for heals, 8A, 14S, 3D and a 6+ feel no pain, slap him under some cover, and charge the living shit out of an enemy, and you will probably have a saga done with oath of moment. Only down side if he get's focused down, but even then if it does not die to the first wave of hits, it's going to hit you back. :D Maybe I'm talking out of my ass, hope not.
What a sad time to be a Space Wolf player. No wolf guard with jump packs, wulfen thunder hammers are 1 damage and the fight on death always used to be automatic. Cupled with Thunder cav having damage 1 weapons and all of the flavour units are being squeezed out. Guess it's an army of generic marines from now on. 🤷♂
@@frankcastle9691 what? You can use all those things, units in Index Space Marines are eligible for divergent chapters, with a few provisos at the beginning. In wolves case tactical, assault, devastator, sternguard and vanguard vet squads, command squads, primaris apothecaries
@Oliver Scoppie incorrect sir it says, your army my include space wolves units, but it cannot include units from any other space marine chapter. Your army cannot include any of the of the following. Tactical, assault, assault jump pack, dev or command squads. So I'm assuming unless it's in the space wolf data sheet you can't take it.
Arjac Rockfist looks good for achieving your sagas. His melee gets buffs against characters and has [anti-monster 2+]. If you deep strike him leading some wolf guard terminators near an enemy character you could try for a saga as early as turn 2. You can even attach him to a unit that already has a Captain or Chapter Master so if you went the route of running Logan without the storm rider you could make the unit even more beat-sticky
People will highlight Wulfen, and if the hammer nerf was intentional they are really bad. That said, I think it was a mistake bc why would they be the only unit with Hammers hitting on S5 AP-1 1D, and something people have missed is that they no longer require a leader with claws, so you could actually run 5 hammer and shield now. Wulfen Dreadnoughts look fantastic again, wolf guard pack leaders still gives our units a big edge over standard marines (we can even take a cyclone missile launcher terminator in Long Fangs and Grey Hunters/Blood Claws). Bjorn is easily one of the best characters out there. Thunderwolf Cavalry get some nice buffs from leaders. I'm not saying it's a great index, but its not nearly as bad as some people are making it out to be.

The shift has clearly been made away from elites and towards characters.
