      They need one, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have to wait til 11th, we're a year in, Astra Militarum has been heavily hinted at for some refresh for Krieg, Votann and World Eaters are still in need of the other halves of their armies, and Emperors Children has all but been confirmed at this point, not sure they are going to be taking on a lot of other projects before 11th on top of all that

    I used to hate space wolves because they were so scruffy. But now I love their anti-authority vibe and the kitbash potential and focus on unique individuals. I also love firstborn so this is very much where I belong.
    For those worried about height, just put a firstborn model on a 25mm base before gluing that to a 32mm. At that point they're basically the same height as any other marines, and coating their feet in snow or ice effects can artificially make their legs seem longer. Even if you only want to build primaris, the grey hunters/blood claws box contains so many bits that you almost need to grab one even if you never fully assemble a model from it

      As someone who plays this faction a lot (albeit with relatively few wins), several of the more fun units include: wulfen dreadnought with shield (hits hard, surprisingly tanky, great for just running directly at the enemy), grey hunters (very fast in stormlance and can still shoot freely, including special weapons), wolf guard (hits on 2s with a character, great for mass fire with storm bolters), blood claws (absolute melee mincers), and wolf guard termis, who can all have hammers and combi weapons, making them the best anti-terminator terminators around

    I'm fairly new to the hobby, and am having a lot of fun collecting a Wolfspear army (basically the only Space Wolf successor chapter, who lean more into the viking side of their motif with how they fight) and as someone with a degree in history, focusing on the Viking Age, Im having a ton of fun, and honestly think Wolfspear is more beginner friendly than the OG Space Wolves.
    This is because the wolfspear use a mix of Space Wolf traditions and Vanguard Spearhead style tactics, meaning that the army is encouraged to try something other than the Sons of Russ detachment, which can be very niche and different from other detachment rules in a way that makes it harder to branch out into other armies. The fact that you cant get their transfer sheets from GW outside of tracking down the issue of White Dwarf that debuted them teaches beginners to look for other places besides GW, showing the variety of places you can look through online. Since most of the beginner friendly games I've played have been with people who let me basically kitbash my own heroes and give them statblocks of their nearest Space Wolf equivalents, it taught me how to kitbash pretty well. Also, with their mix of influences and tactics, you get to be more creative with how you envision your army functioning in the lore. How much influence do they take from Fenris? How much of of Cawl's indoctrination is still in there? You decide.
    My current 1000 point list for anyone who's interested in a pretty cheap 1000 point army:
    Vanguard Spearhead detachment
    Gravis Wolf Lord(Captain) leading 3 Aggressors, and given the Blade Driven Deep enhancement to be able to drop them in midfield early game
    Inflitrators led by a Phobos Rune Priest (Librarian) equiped with Execute and Redeploy to be able to use them offensively as harrassers in midfield/grabbing secondary objectives, or defensively to hold objectives
    Standard Rune Priest leading a squad of Sternguards/Wolfguards. Gives the guards extra defense, and they put together make a good versatile unit to fill in any gaps you might need.
    Inceptors. Deepstrike them, take out a vital enemy unit, then use guerilla tactics to get them out and ready for the next round
    A Canis Wolfborn equivalent, kitbashed out of a wolflord on thunderwolf, leading a Cyberwolf, and a pack of Fenrisian Wolves. Makes for a mobile as hell melee unit that can go where you need and, put together with all the other units, can pick off infantry reasonably well, helping make an army that presents a lot of threats popping up all over the battlefield.
    Space Wolf Venerable Dreadnaught with Helfrost Cannon or Multi-Melta. Makes for a versatile fire support unit that gets the benefit of cover and -1 against ranged attacks so long as they're over 12 inches away due to the Vanguard Spearhead rules. Use alongside the Incursors, Rune Priests, and Sternguards against heavier units.

    Love the series! Would you consider doing a Skew List/Thematic List for a specific detachment? Like something that keeps the idea of being competitively viable but leans into a specific detachment for an army? Codex Space Marine's come to mind or the new CSM Codex are fairly diverse.

    • @Speeds_Gaming_Corner
      @Speeds_Gaming_Corner  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I tried to do that for this one with lots of Wulfen, but often times the "themed" lists are gimmicky and way too expensive. A wulfen + Thunderwolf spamming list is like $1200.
      Each list I do I try to lean into a bit of skew to give that type of player an idea (See Black Templars Ironstorm Dreadnought list vs Sword Brethren list).

    If I had a nickel for each 40K TH-cam channel I follow that is biased towards the Thousand Sons and makes a lot of jokes at the Space Wolves' expense as a result, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.
    Also, on your point about not liking all the various themes the Space Wolves have, I feel that. I love the Viking and Norse themeing and the ice and cold weather themeing, but I REALLY pass on all the wolves but that's the thing GW really wants to focus on. I would much prefer if they were idealizing bears imo but I guess wolves sell better.

    My problems with Space Wolves currently:
    A good ranged army with only decent def/melee is a bit better then a mainly melee SM army, and since the SW specific detachment is meh and there is no close combat specific SM detachment we are starting with one hand tied behind our backs.
    Or you can go with stormlance, print 24 wolfriders and call it a day...
    Anyway, they are fun to play, even if challenging a bit, but i wouldn't recommend starting a big army until the codex drops

  • @Joe_Smo
    @Joe_Smo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Love the list but Walmart proxy wolves may be a little suspect for a GWS official tournament list when GWS forbids proxies and commercially available minis/bits in official GWS tournaments. Other "major tournaments" sure.

    • @IncredibleMD
      @IncredibleMD 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A quick google search turns up official GW Fenrisian wolves for $35.70. The minis he suggests are $7.99 for three, so it seems like buying official will about double your Fenrisian wolves. It's not a totally insignificant chunk of change, and might be a problem to justify for the 500 or 1000 point armies, but for the 1500 or 2000 point armies, it's not that much bigger an ask than the pricetag already is.

      Assault intercessors with jump packs are passable Space Wolves unit. Assault Intercessors with Jump packs are $60 for 5 whereas these are $70 for 10. Recently (50 minutes after my Blood Angels video went live) GW announced they were pulling the isolated Jump Packs that you could purchase to turn regular Assault Intercessors into Jump Pack Intercessors ($80 total for 10 Primaris Jump Pack Intercessors). Given that the choice is more or less "$70 for Beaky boys or $120 for Primaris" I went with Beaky Boy supremacy.
