Agreed, another thing, I find it hard to name literally any other band that sounds similar to Primus, much the same with Rush, both bands kinda have their own individual sorta styles that no one else can really touch.
Primus was the 1990's. This album came out when I was 18 yo. All my friends already had their primus albums, their favorites, Sailing, Frizzel, Miscellaneous, this one was mine and for me. I thought Wynona's BBB was a great tune, until I heard this, I was hooked, and here I am still. I saw them live in the 90's, once at the Paramount and once at Red Rocks, the trio has always been in my pocket, in my ears, and definitely in my mind. God speed to great music, and nostalgic moods of the past that remain with us, be well.
Off of memory I believe this came out in 1995 and I was 22, now 50. Spent many a night spilling bong water to Primus that’s for sure. This album was a pleasant surprise for me. I remember I was in a store with my wife and I said “well look at that, a new Primus album”. I had no idea this one was coming out. Same thing happened 2 years later with the Brown album. I remember being proud of them for still cranking out albums every 2 years.

I was driving across America by myself and had bought this album for the road trip. When I heard the "whistle" it scared me so bad I had to pull over and make sure someone wasn't in the back seat. PRIMUS ROCKS!
I was on shrooms a while back, and got stuck in Les Claypool Land. It was making my trip funky (bad is good though, right), I kept saying I had to change the music but could not even though I was walking around and fully functioning on 3.5. wild stuff. Before I lost my Daddy a couple of years ago he heard Primus and LOVED it. He was born in 42 and was always very picky about his tunes. It was awesome. (In middle school in the early/mid 90s I did introduce him to Cypress Hill, and The Fugees which he also enjoyed.)
Seeing Primus live while on shrooms is on my bucket list! NIce to see other like minded people pushing the limits of their reality in a good way, but is looked down on.
@@JohnJRighteousHypocrite That is totally bucket list worthy!! And same. It used be "smoke a j and chill", in today's society and mental health status, it's more "Hey, you should maybe take a medium to heroic dose and lay in a dark room". Most of us have too much inner garbage built up.
@@AlchemistAugen The last time I ate Shroom's I was left with this inner calm..a peace, knowing that there is MUCH MUCH MORE going on around us, than what society allocates or prohibits us from reaching. I love primus. I am glad the elephants won!! I wish he would do more music. The new one has three songs on it, greatful! Then the Claypool and Lennon album is great. They have two of them. More , more!!
Went to see sessanta and they played this both nights. Mainly went to see Puscifer and A Perfect Circle just because I don’t really listen to Primus but holy sh*t this song got me in shivers. Not to say any of their songs weren’t downright awesome, but this song just hit different. Beautiful progression, love everything about it.
This is the only spoiler I was looking for! I was like…damn plz say Primus play this song live: They played it when they opened for Tool years ago. I’ll never forget seeing the pachyderm’s jumping up and down on trampolines Can’t wait for this show in Red Rocks. I got two weeks to wait
@@Caltops78 It could change for the next performance, but there were unfortunately no trampolines :( Regardless, nothing could take away how gorgeous that entire song is. Hope they’ll play it for ya but I assume they will considering they played it for both nights of sessanta. And oooo I’m jealous you’re going to the Red Rocks, that’s an insanely cool venue! I just live too far :( But that’s awesome for you! We only have a few more years of Maynard and Claypool so now is definitely the time to seize the opportunity 😎
@@dontthey. I’m open for whatever they play. So many awesome songs to look forward to regardless. I live in Minnesota and bought these tickets at red rocks with my bonus $$. Had to buy resale cause it was sold out so I invested a few dollars in this trip. Maynard and friends are worth it.
Oh hey I was going to ask. Did you purchase any of the posters or other merch? I’m after one of the signed posted are vinyl but know there are only 75 copies at each show. How early were people in line?
@@Caltops78 I did not but I do regret it lol. I ended up getting a perfect circle mer de noms shirt however the merch line was absolutely ABSURD both nights before the concert. There were at least 100 people in the line. I’ve literally never seen a line that long for merch💀 I’m assuming it won’t be thaaat bad later on in the tour, but definitely will still be long. The only chance we had to get merch whilst not missing the beginning of the concert was to rush during intermission and we still missed half of one Puscifer song after intermission due to that. Definitely worth it though. If I were you and I wanted to ensure that I got a poster before it sold out (a handful of items were sold out by intermission) then I’d get in line for the concert as soon as you can and RUSH to the merch line. Will be a pain in the behind but again, absolutely worth it.
This song is still so underrated, as is the entire Tales From the Punchbowl. I know they have this and Grapevine in the set rotation, hopefully I will be able to hear one of the two when I see Primus in 6 days!

just discovering this band, and every song, every video is something new. "Gotta watch, gotta listen" stuff. Who does the claymation on these? That just adds to what is already psychedilicious.
Someone called Steve Johnson, according to a billboard article from before the release. He made the foam puppets based off prototypes by Claypool, and I assume he had an unnamed team with him. He was the guy responsible for the Wynona video's costumes
When in doubt, click on citations from wikipedia articles like the one for southbound pachyderm. For some reason the wiki page doesn't include the fact Steve Johnson made the foam puppets and based them off of the Claypool prototypes. Man it's weird. Supposed to include accurate quotes and info n all.
I had a full love for this song, but after seeing the music video it feels like it hurts so much more. I appreciate the imagery they chose but to think how these animals are poached so heavily at one point or to this day is painful, I am thankful I found Primus
Les best slap bassist ever. Puts on a great show as a lead man. Mike Watt also has some mean bass lines. Most people dont give the bassist much credit.

This drummer is so crisp n clean .
Cant teach that it comes naturally
I love how at the end the pachyderm does a victory roll over his foe before flying off. Great band. Great tune. Great video.
Good eye. Love that
Classic Primus,You can just feel the Pink Floyd influence in this song, keep on rock'n in 2021
Definitely feeling the Floyd vibes
Well those pachyderms are indeed southbound 👍
Everything about this is awesome! Some of Primus's best stuff!
This song is freakin amazing in concert
I am amazing 🎸 Neither negative nor Positive.
The meaning of Amazing!
this is one of my favorite primus songs because it's different then all the other ones. Les isn't yelling as much and I love the music video too
I find primus to be quite enjoyable.
nerd
Kyle Kroneberger Primus sucks tho
@@gub4941 hello there, obi-wan!
Eni De Souza Santana hello there
I personally think these guys suck
It was like Falling in love, Getting paid & eating my favorite Food all at once... but better somehow! Even there Egyptians knew what Beer was, & they developed their own recipe for it 4,500 years ago!
This is definitely one of my favorite songs of all time.
The 90's claymation style makes it even better!
2015 Primus and TOOL Tour! Yesssssssssssssss!!!!!
Fuck yessss Nashville ky
I know I plan on going only luck can get me 5 ticket lol I'm going to need luck been wanting to see TOOL at a concert last time they did was before I was born and I'm 16 was giving up hope but fuck now I'm giving up sleep thinking about it
Where are they touring?
+jjdraven saw them in San Diego jan 10th, They are both amazing live!
+jjdraven Just saw them in Tulsa! 3Teeth/Primus/Tool . ALL were fantastic! I bought floor seats for my sister and 55 year old mom for Christmas. SHE SAID IT WAS THE BEST CONCERT OF HER ENTIRE LIFE!!!
Omg,flash backs of strange little clubs in the 60s, brilliant, never thought I would hear this sort of thing again, I am now in my 70s, love it!!
My all time favorite Primus song. Especially between 0:45-1:17.
one of primus's trippiest songs
A madman who just has fun with it...
Best bass player in rock history.
For you baby brother...may you rest in paradise!
IDK if I'd put him in the "greatest" catagory.....he's like the Hendrix of bass Wich means he transcends greatness. He looks down on greatness:)
Hendrix was the greatest tho
@@brenteick6896 eh. maybe for a period in time. but not the greatest of all time. there are countless more players to be born, and maybe there are allready better players in existence. simply saying "the greatest" is hyperbolic speech that can never be factually true.
Saw them live in Boston a lifetime ago. Crazy ass show. RIP LES
This video and song are just plain amazing. Les is a genius
I love primus. I am glad the elephants won!!
I wish he would do more music. The new one has three songs on it, greatful! Then the Claypool and Lennon album is great. They have two of them. More , more!!
Primus might be the most under appreciated bands of the 90s
Just killin that bass
Went to see sessanta and they played this both nights. Mainly went to see Puscifer and A Perfect Circle just because I don’t really listen to Primus but holy sh*t this song got me in shivers. Not to say any of their songs weren’t downright awesome, but this song just hit different. Beautiful progression, love everything about it.
This is the only spoiler I was looking for! I was like…damn plz say Primus play this song live:
They played it when they opened for Tool years ago.
I’ll never forget seeing the pachyderm’s jumping up and down on trampolines
Can’t wait for this show in Red Rocks. I got two weeks to wait
@@Caltops78 It could change for the next performance, but there were unfortunately no trampolines
:(
Regardless, nothing could take away how gorgeous that entire song is.
1:58 when he slams his fist down in unison with the riff its just perfect
When they ask "Show me what you got!" we better reply with Primus!
What if we already did?
I LIKE WHAT YOU GOT
and the aliens are like nah we know them already... Primus Sucks.
Just love the build up of this tune. Soooo good.
Been listening primus for years! They have changed with the times! Damn if this is not the shit! I love it
Caught you guys in San Diego last night! Incredible show!! Hungover, prob still a little drunk, and my voice is rough. You guys killed it last night.
This song is still so underrated, as is the entire Tales From the Punchbowl. I know they have this and Grapevine in the set rotation, hopefully I will be able to hear one of the two when I see Primus in 6 days!
Best Primus song and best album too IMO!
that elephant's ears are dangerously close to the plane propellers
Is that really what you're most concerned with?
@@nightwing6175 shut up
It's OK, I think they installed an interruptor gear.
Bandito Boi that’s what I thought too lol
It's a pachyderm, they kinda look like elephants
I'm 17 and I fucking love this band, they're sick as hell. I wish more people my age knew about them
Glad to see people about the same age as me enjoying this amazing band

Just saw Primus at Hollywood Bowl last night with APC. Pretty cool

just discovering this band, and every song, every video is something new. "Gotta watch, gotta listen" stuff. Who does the claymation on these? That just adds to what is already psychedilicious.
The videos are great, but primus sucks
Someone called Steve Johnson, according to a billboard article from before the release. He made the foam puppets based off prototypes by Claypool, and I assume he had an unnamed team with him. He was the guy responsible for the Wynona video's costumes
When in doubt, click on citations from wikipedia articles like the one for southbound pachyderm. For some reason the wiki page doesn't include the fact Steve Johnson made the foam puppets and based them off of the Claypool prototypes. Man it's weird. Supposed to include accurate quotes and info n all.
@@SeanSMST thanks for that 👍
Favorite Primus Song
Yea
Claymation is a very under appreciated medium - just look at how interesting this music video is.
My dad introduced me to Primus when I was like 9 years old.
Kinda explains my life.
LOL
You're dad is legendary 😂
Twisted guitarist, like John 5 from MArylon manson! My respects to whom ever has the patience to produce a claymation video...creativity, imagination, and patience are required to appreciate this kind of work. Get educated before you speak my friends!
His name is Larry Lalonde and he is just as unique as Les. Amazing sound for a three piece band.
Thanx!
Educate Primus Sucks!!!
Primus sucks and we love him hehe ;)
love it..and Tim catches all the subtle notes of the music. One example is at about 2:08 .You can even hear him catching les claypools syllables and and saliva sounds with his cymbals !
Arguably the best primus song.
Yes but no
No but yes
I remember when people looked forward to watching MTV for cool videos like this now the show is a joke
You could spend all day watching it back then. Could and did.
Now we watch TH-cam and I'm damn glad... I'm one skip ad away from my favorite tune/vid
Such a great classic tune, man. Brings me back
Tim Alexander absolutely rips his drums to shreds in the intro and nobody talks about it. IT'S A SONG ABOUT FUXJING ELEPHANTS.
is that Mussolini trying to catch an elephant?
LOL yup
I mean, those were KV-2 Tanks...
SteelCXLII Oh my God, they are.
SteelCXLII LMAO...Russian Kv-2s under command of Italian dictator (Mussolini) being driven by Teddy Roosevelt......priceless....
Vs animalist clones of Charles Xavier
This is so fucking awesome! Primus and all their art is so fucking awesome! I can't get enough of them! Since the late 80ties, when I found their "Suck on This"-Record, I'm an devoted fan of 'em!
My dad always told me claypool was his favorite bass player, because he was so unique. I also agreed. Years and years ago he showed me too many puppies. As a kid i was intrigued by the song. Growing up i always was searching for the song. Found it and i knew this was for me. , rest in paradise dad. I know your jamming up there love you

How did I miss these guys? I guess I was too caught up in Pink Floyd but I am so glad I 've discovered them now before I die! I was watching some South Park clips and this popped up and I thought "that looks interesting," Interesting is a huge understatement. New Fan for life!

The elephants get away. That's good. That's excellent. However they should have dumped a huge dump on the dictator, yes?
I agree, these dudes are awesome
Saw Primus last night in Dallas and it was fucking mindblowing! Clutch opened and that was the best opening to Primus!! Fuck yeah!!
I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THIS SONG .
Everyone always talks about how great Les is,and he is dont get me wrong....but Tim Alexander and Ler are fucking great also.
I started listening to primus about 25-30 yrs ago & have 7-8 CDs,today is the first time I have seen any of them or there videos. Can you fucking imagine how much cooler & weirder they are than I thought !!! Should have dropped a trip 4 this, have had my mind blown away anyway.
I'm on LSD right now. This song rules.
Oh shit. I think I put the wrong sugar cube in my coffee today.
