If you've only heard one Primus song, and you hear another Primus song you've never heard before, you automatically know it's Primus. Primus is a band that can't be mistaken for any other, how many other bands are like that?

I actually worked on a painting crew run by a lacquerhead one time. Instead of ventilating a house, he'd seal it up completely with plastic, remove his respirator, and spray lacquer on all the woodwork. Wispy clouds of lacquer mist would grow thick and hang oddly in the air, and he would just bathe in it.
I tried it for five minutes one time...yeah...it sets your head on fire. Very odd, but definitely pleasant. And you vibrate at about 60 hz.
I had lacquer breath for hours afterward...just like alcohol breath after a pint of whiskey.
He was 45, but looked like a pale, ghoulish 70. Nice guy, though.

There are times where a band will change members and go down a totally different path... Sometimes it rocks, sometimes it sucks. RHCP did that with Dave Navarro, One Hot Minute being the album. Primus did this too with Brain, Brown Album and Antipop I think. For both bands these were interesting times, fascinating to me and I love the music that came of this experimentation, yet both bands also seem to refuse to acknowledge the existence of these periods. I understand Herb doesn't want to play music that was created without him, and RHCP went all....soft I feel, after John returned on guitar.
For both bands, they created some seriously badass music, yet they never play it live.
