    Millet porridge is great to eat...with milk and sugar/honey/cinnamon for taste. It's no different from oatmeal the grain of choice in Western societies. It's widely eaten in Africa and Asia. I like the way you prepared this one, fluffy.

      Can we blend this raw directly just like oats?

    • @iaaainotserious
      @iaaainotserious 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VarunKumar-bc7vr I don't think so. I was searching for easy recipe like oats. I don't have to cook oats, just add yogurt/milk, raisins, banana, nuts and have it in an easy way. Maybe you have to soak millet for 6 hours before cooking. Without cooking it's not ok to eat maybe. Anyway I haven't found a single easy recipe as oats as it's the only recipe for those whose in hurry. Cornflakes are processed, stay away from it.

    Millet originated in the Yellow River Valley around 5500 BCE, but it was also found in Africa around the same time, or 2000 BCE.

    Love how you brought the background in it! You might have also explained the benefits of not having gluten and what your reasons are for doing it! 😁 Gluten is a protein which as the name of it says 'Glue' ten has a tendency of sticking like a glue once consumed but not fully processed and making it more difficult for your body to absorb other nutrients, vitamins and minerals, which you have in this meal. Nit considering that we all have a different metabolism so this might not be a huge issue with everyone. But anyway you have a lovely voice and you seem to enjoy these videos alot so keep it on girl!

      Some people with celiac disease cannot stand gluten.. Meaning it makes their stomach hurt like lactose intolerant people.... Some others just do it for the waisgline benefits... I personally deteste bread with gluten because it gives me bad breath and gooey phlegm.. So I opt for gluten free bread.

    0:34 "Millet is a seed although some people confuse is for a grain".
    Well that's a distinction without a difference. All grains are technically seeds. I'm not sure what makes millet unique from any other common grains. It belongs to the Poaceae family which includes wheat, barley, rye, oats, corn, rice etc.

      Yeah, millet is not well-known in some countries. It's truly unfortunate because it's SO GOOD for us. I used to eat it all the time when we lived in Russia, but kinda forgot about it once we moved to Canada. I'm so happy to re-discover it again. :)
      Millet doesn't have a very strong flavour. I find it a bit nutty and sweet. If I plan on eating millet all by itself, I sometimes cook it in a veggie broth to enhance the flavour. And if it's going into a salad, soup or veggie burger, I just use water.

    OK! 1 question coming up...
    I've read on some interenet sources that consuming millet on a daily basis can mess with your Thyroid and my even lead to goiter disease. Since I want to have gluten free meals so how can we deal with this if it's true?
    Also how minimally should it be consumed... Please if someone can shed light on this?

    • @ishmael4489
      @ishmael4489 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      4 years late to answer but here goes anyway. I'm fairly sure millet is fine for regular consumption as it's a staple in many places around the world (breakfast, lunch and dinner), and overall the people eating it don't seem to have issues. I think as long as you're not eating it more than once a day it's completely fine. If your worried about your thyroid don't forget to eat enough selenium, zinc and iodine. You can source your selenium from just one brazil nut, your zinc from foods like chia seeds and your iodine from seaweeds, like dulse, or iodised salt.

    Thanks for this. Your presoaked recipe calls for 1 cup presoaked millet and 1/2 cup water for cooking. Is that correct?

    Mine turned out like a dry but sticky stodge. It was nice but just not how I expected. Is this normal?

      2,years later….
      Yes, It’s normal
      If sticky does not do it for you, use it in soup, blend it for smoothies or just break it with fork

    Disliked as the presentation didn't mention water to millet ratio. Even the description doesn't have a mention of it
