The greenscreen MV was to go with the theme of the song. It was supposed to not waste any materials creating scenes, no waste, environmental free. They got their 1st and 2nd win with Maison! Thank you for the reaction!

true it did very much help go with the saving the environment aspect of the songs concept but the MV could have been much better with all the effects and green screen quality. just looked cheap for a dreamcatcher MV. is def not there best work

the "weirdness" of the mv is definitely noticeable, it's like one of those things where your brain knows something is a bit wrong but it can't pinpoint what. however! i don't rly care lol, it matched the vibe of the song and the mv was still very pretty
That "weird" thing you say you see but you don't know what it is. I don't know much about this but I think it's because when you use green screen and you plan to use scenarios like the ones in the MV then you have to be very careful about the light you put on people. The light and shadows in the girls must coincide with that scenario that is going to be created later. If that (and other issues) are not done well, it ends up looking weird, like out of place. That explains why the scenes that are white look better, because when there is a lot of white it seems that the light comes from everywhere so it is easier to manipulate the light, I guess.🤔 However, for me the scenes that look "weird" are very few, most of the MV looks good, my opinion. And it has scenes that are GORGEOUS 💖 Personally, whether I like a song or not doesn't depend on the MV. I'm not going to watch the MV every time I listen to the song hahaha

Usually they have really beautiful mvs like «Boca» and «Odd eye» or mvs who tell a story like «Good night» and «Chase me» so the mv for «Maison» was a bit disappointing. The CGI looked weird in some place like the devil creature Sua fighted. But there were points where it looked nice like the greek inspired area.
I honestly didn't like this MV at all, one of my least fav actually, but I'm in this journey for the music above all so I'm not really bothered by it in the slightest

I'm a bit torn on the MV, as it's definitley not my favourite. I think because of the message of the song it would be really difficult to create a ruined world on such a huge scale without a green screen. I think maybe if they switched between green screen and then a real set for the choreo parts, but I don't know if the contrast would make it stand out more.
I think they only used greenscreen in order to prevent material waste. They did okay but they might have bitten more than they could chew😅 but the music is ofc as amazing as always

It’s just that some scenes were absolutely incredibly made while others looked like they were copy and pasted over the background, and most of it was just lighting problems, but for a smaller company doing such a large scale project, I think they did pretty well.
Also another thing is that I feel like they were too scared to cover the member’s faces with shading i.e. Dami’s scene and Siyeon’s first scene. The direction of the lighting didn’t match the cgi so it made them look super out of place.
This Is a reference why K-pop songs didn't need a super synth for te chorus, or a fast rap, or a dance break to be a good song.
Maison it's just a masterpiece and the album blow me away.
The main thing that annoyed me with the editing and filming was literally just Dami’s scene. That is my favorite scene but it bugs me so much that all the computer screens are flashing but you don’t see the light affecting her at all. It’s one minor thing and it’s stupid to dwell on but I just wanted that scene to be perfect 😆
I think the CG, as in the graphical elements, isn't necessarily bad; which is why it was difficult for me to pick out what didn't quite sit right with me. You voiced a lot of expertise in ways that I could "feel" but not express. I appreciate your production deep dives, because I think somehow it all registers with me even if I don't know /why/ it's good or bad.
I'm a fan of Dreamcatcher when they are on actual set like Chase Me, Good NIght or the most recent BEcause. But I think Deja Vu would be the best example of great CG+Set. But clearly Maison wants to have big scale destruction, it make sense to go full CG.
I’m absolutely OBSESSED with this comeback, it’s so different from what they’ve given us before but also the same Dreamcatcher sound. Congrats to the girls on getting their first with with Maison!
Been waiting for this reaction. This song really connected me finally with Dreamcatcher, I am a big rock fan and so it was weird to me that I was kind of dismissive of Dreamcatcher despite their trademark, rock sound. But after seeing this video, and even more, watching them get their first win live, I can finally say I am an Insomnia. So happy to be in this era of KPOP.

Try their Japanese tracks, they’re a lot more straightforwardly rock/metal and you might enjoy them! Don’t Light My Fire might be my favorite DC track.

DCC actually confirmed - the song IS a climate change song! Love the song, love the message -- as someone who's in no way a film expert, I agree 100% with what you were saying about the MV. when the MV started I was amazed at how good the CG background looked (with the camera angle on Jiu and Yoohyeon) but it did look obviously 2D to me in other scenes, particularly with Gahyeon and the portal scenes with Handong and Siyeon. So tldr, not my favorite music video from Dreamcatcher. I'm not opposed to CGI, but I usually prefer a combination of real sets and CG effects, like Dreamcatcher has done in the past. However, I do appreciate with how DCC is trying something new here, and I wouldn't mind if they stick to it - hopefully they can keep the criticism in mind if they do try it again next time.

YEEES THAT'S WHAT I WAS WAITING FOR THE MOST. The song becomes better with every single listen and has cemented itself legendary simply for earning Dreamcatcher their first 2 wins with it!
Edit: 3:12 IF THIS ISN'T MY REACTION THEN IDK. Definitely my favourite part of the song, the way Yoo's voice kicks in after the grittier Dami section is goosebumps EVERY single time, + yes, that hair style deserves its own hall of fame.

The way I see it, Dreamcatcher has always had fantastical, out of this world settings - it's actually a part of their appeal. I think even though we've seen them in so many different crazy places, like a mansion (Fly High), other dimensions (YOU AND I), wastelands (Scream), and cyberpunk facilities (Odd Eye), MAISON and the Apocalypse trilogy seemed to up this to the next level. It''s hard to set yourself in a blasted cityscape with fantasy elements without significant cost.
While I'm speculating, I think this is a combination of A)being constrained by perhaps not being able to travel to a place where there'd be more natural setpieces for an "apocalypse"/COVID-19 case surge B)saving a bit of cash/environment consciousness and C)wanting to experiment with something more. Dreamcatcher has always been an experimental group. I definitely saw some of the green-screen heavy usage this time around, but it didn't really bug me terribly much - if they were prioritizing safety, cash, and environment, doing it this way makes sense. And because Dreamcatcher has always been about a lot of unique concepts (this time around being divine/super-powered warrior-defenders of a apocalyptic planet in answer to peoples' prayers) I was able to more easily forgive any weird CGI off-putting - especially as the song is an absolute banger and the culmination of the evolution of their style.
In short, I don't mind this stuff so much so long as the song is good, the group is satisfied with the final outcome and the fandom as a whole is supportive of it, which, as we saw from it winning not once but twice, and selling the best out of all their albums yet (99k Hanteo right now), seems to be what is happening.
Personally, when watching a video this grand, with large world created around them, I will not be bothered by details in the visual quality. Very few girl groups get to put out videos with a rich CGI background, something which must have cost a lot and is unaffordable for most, so I'm just happy to see one. On the other hand, if there are plenty simple rookie "mistakes" in an MV, or too many considering that a large budget should have ensured proper quality control, then of course it can be annoying.
When it comes to musical analysis, I'm intrigued by how groups build their tracks, but never bothered by how they choose to structure their tracks, or which part is called what according to music theory. To me music is supposed to be surprising. I don't care where verses, choruses, pre-choruses or bridges are, or if some of them are missing or replayed on a loop, as long as the final product as a whole is pleasant to listen to. I don't think less of a song if it isn't built according to some rules, if some part is not where it's "supposed" to be, or if a part is not easily identifiable as a specific section. In fact, I enjoy when song makers break the mould. Never really understood why pop music so rigidly restricts itself to one pretty defined formula.
I cried as hard as the girls did when this brought their first win. Maison will always hold a special place for us.

When it came to the video and the consistency, it subconsciously had a small effect on me. I definately felt that some parts of the video felt off. But for someone who doesn't know much about this stuff, I just shrugged it off as mediocre green screen and cgi throughout the video. So it was interesting getting a breakdown, and having it explained why some parts felt off, and also that not all parts of it was like that.

i absolutely love dreamcatcher and really enjoy how theatrical their mv's are, but i prefer their sets much more. too much cg makes it hard for me to be fully immersed
One of my favorite MV's in general ever cause to me personally it feels like a videogame and the song is amazing and they look STUNNING and it shows they really put money in this believing in MAISON and it payed off... MAISON will forever remaing untouchable and GodTier 🏆🏆

I'm a huge DC fan and I do agree with all your points: The music itself was great but the MV was lacking. The group looks great but the green screen graphics were almost too distracting. I do like Dami's set and fits her vibe perfectly. But everything else seemed to distract in a negative way.
I definitely agree with the video being inconsistent but I am not too much bothered by it. The song is amazing and it is for sure one of the best girl group comebacks of the year.
To answer your question, I definitely prefer practical sets and MVs more than green screen ones. I knew there was something that bothered me about this MV the 1st time I watched it but didn’t know what, so I’m glad you were able to point it out. I wish they filmed the entire MV in the style they did Jiu’s scene at the start!

The same for me. The MV looked "off" to me, but I couldn't put my finger on it. This helps me make sense of it.

I agree about the video. CGI was so noticeable that I kept imagining the group performing in a blank green room instead of wherever the video was trying to place them.
I streamed this a lot when it first came out and had not listened to it since promotion stopped. Listening to it again now gave me chills. Especially Dami’s part. Sometimes it takes stepping away to really appreciate a song.
I agree with you 10000000%. They definitely "levelled up" in terms of the music, but I also wasn't a fan of the 100% green screen situation they had. I get what they were going for but I wish they actually had sets instead

The dance sequence CGI surrounding part is made with XR technology...that's why the background seems wobbly coz it follows the camera movement in real time...
This album is my favorite piece of work from them! Their solos are so great and full of so much personality. They all also wrote and I think composed their solo songs as well and they did an amazing job

At first I was unsure how to feel about this comeback because I was honestly so surprised about the direction they went after BEcause. But I am now obsessed with the song (and the album). The outro of the song is one of the most epic outro in all kpop. As far as the MV, I understand why they went all CGI, but I do prefer the look of their simple physical sets like from Scream and BEcause.
Entrancing is heaven
At first I was really disappointed with the music video, but now I actually really like it! I usually don't like green screen that much, but the reason why they did it is nice. Also, the world is distorted so it kinda fits.
I do personally love the more practical or even live sets (like Everglow - First), you can still ad tons of CGI to it. Pure (or a lot of) greenscreen feels a little odd to be, almost a lifeless perhaps, it's just not the same.
Easily my favorite album of the year so far. And MAISON? It blows me away every time I listen to it.
Maison really did step it up for Dreamcatcher! While their previous comebacks were slowly garnering the girls more success and recognition, Maison just really pushed through and gave Dreamcatcher their long awaited and very well deserved first and second wins 🥳 I hope that because of what Maison was able to do for the girls that they only get more successful from here because they really do deserve it for their ✨high quality✨music as well as the time, hard work and effort that goes into it. Despite how much I liked the mv, I don’t think it did the outro justice. The mv for the outro was really beautiful but the transition to the outro was somehow a little off and should’ve been more jarring. But overall this comeback was absolutely stunning!!

I don't usually comment on the videos I watch on this channel, but I really felt the need to because of how passionate you were about how this M/V was shot haha
When I first watched this, I wasn't a fan of the visuals in certain parts of the M/V as well, and I wasn't quite sure either. I really enjoyed certain parts at the beginning and then some parts felt awkward or out of place. Your observations explained my feelings perfectly because there were parts that felt dynamic and naturally beautiful, whereas other parts were clearly aesthetically beautiful, but "flat". I personally usually prefer more natural and dynamic, but I think doing green screen and CGI are fine if it really fits the song and story they're going with. However, I don't enjoy it as much when there's a clear discrepancy when both techniques are incorporated.

My fave DC mvs are Odd Eye and Boca. I definitely prefer actual sets over green screen. But this one is still pretty to me, it feels like they popped out of a comic book or video game.

I got emotional first time I watched this MV and read the lyrics. I think it's awesome they're using their platform for important messages, like "Boca" and this song for example. They're not afraid to speak their minds!!

I still can't process that i saw them perform maison live with my own eyes. The girls are fantastic and deserve so much more.
I was also a bit confused when I first watched the video and thought it had to do with them being in a videogame or something but loved the song. THEN I realized that the song is about saving the earth and then found out the video was made that way because it was supposed not to waste anything creating practical sets and they wanted it to be environmental free.
The song sounds like an anime intro I love it lol. I also really enjoy the choreo really wished they included more shots of the choreo instead of the chorus

I mean, Dreamcatcher's company is pretty small so i'm quite happy they are putting this much effort, this complex cgi is prob expensive and difficult to do so I can see their efforts here. Also I feel like it being all cgi contributes to the values of the song about being more eco and caring for the environment
They probably shot the video with an idea of the CGI, and tried to make it work. Probably came down to time and the fact that nobody goes back to reshoot something in most KPOP videos (24-48 hours and done). Overall I think it works for the video, and I would say it is very good for a first try for a full green screen video from the Dreamcatcher team (they have been making amazing videos for not being one of the big three).

This actually is a climate change song. 😉 Maison is French for "house" or rather "home", and they are singing about everyone's home, which is our planet. Previously they talked about online hate, now they are tackling an issue that impacts the whole planet and therefore everyone. Climate change is going to affect all of us, and it is already affecting many people. Island Nations will disappear under the ocean ("Save my home in the ocean"). Ice melts in the arctic and displaces people ("Save my home in the polar"). Forests get decimated by corporate greed and habitats get destroyed ("Save my home in the jungle") and disappearing glaciers and snow packs result in even less water for deserts ("Save my home in the desert").
People have a natural tendency to ignore issues that seem to be in the future - but climate change is here, right now. We can't wait anymore, and it is good that Dreamcatcher use their platform to promote change: "Break your habit now!"
Musically I really enjoy the song. Like in BEcause, the rock/metal vibe is dialed back a bit (for me), but it is still there and highly distorted. Although the more I listen to it, the more Rock I hear. I especially like how the pre-chorus and chorus seems to appear out of nowhere, the chord progression in the bridge, and the epic end part. The bass line is crazy as well. LEEZ and Ollounder have done it again, and the members are just brilliant.
The more I listen to this MAISON by Dreamcatcher, the more I fall in love with it. I can't get out of it ! ❤ Thanks.

This is one of my favorite Dreamcatcher title songs but I admit that is the MV I like the least. I am not a huge fan of too much CGI in music videos, and a few things about the lighting do bother me, but this is my personal opinion. I still prefer MVs like BEcause or even Odd Eye (that mixes CGI and practicle).
The use of CGI is likely due to this new era being about the environment. Maison is a song about saving the environment so zero waste in a mv makes sense!

I was waiting for this reaction for so long and i clicked this video maybe i never before. They did such a great job as always and won 2 award with dope Maison. I don't know why but i feel like everyone has to know those golden people out there. Their concept is my biggest weakness, i admit.
The MV was product by TAIWAN's CG team called AGEcreative ,so there may be some languague barriears or something else, as a Taiwan insomina, even the CG wasn't perfect enough, I still proud of them.

I didn't notice any of the things you said about CG while watching the video, but I never pay attention to that so that's on me, so I don't mind. I wished you commented more on the topic of the song, that was my favourite part!

it's personally one of my fav title tracks, I just can never get enough of them pushing the bar of what they could do while still sounding very them, also the argument about the drops before the chorus are honestly kinda eh to me, I don't get why some people are super obsessive with traditional song structure, I think it's cool that the energy is consistent throughout and explodes at the end, it might be a grower for some people but it was an instant like to me because of how different it is from the usual comebacks in the "kpop palette" as PD says
"glitch" by kwon eunbi is undoubtedly my fav title track this year so far but maison is also up there as one of my faves

I LOVE the song, I think it sounds pretty epic and is one of their best songs so far, but the MV is not my favorite. There is too much green screen to my taste, and some of the scenes just look too fake to me.

PD you should also check out the album. I believe it's their best. The song that got me tears was winter by Handong. I just can't hide my tears when I listen to that. The vocals and the music just touched my soul. And when i hear it , it just rolls out all the hardships she has been through.
I love this reaction! I agree 1000 percent about the music video. Its very green screen and at some moments its done not very well. Jordan Orme pointed out in his video how during the choreo the motion tracking is off. I think of videos like LA Di Da by Everglow, even Scream, where green sceeen was relied on but done well and blended well with the practical elements and other added effects. Idk, i love this MV but I think it could have been done better.

Had similar thoughts about different teams working on the MV too. I'm a big fan of their Play Color videos (Gems/Genie), when it comes to quality, those are top notch. When i saw Wind Blows I was hoping the nxt MV will have that Quality. Well, maybe next time. Their budget isn't at Marvel level, but they have what matters: Sound, Song, Performance. Maison is EPIC and finally they got their WIN (2x🤟). LEEZ & Ollounder never disappoint. Hope you'll react to the rest of the album. There are some 💎💎s there.
