@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Absolutely! I've been on this journey since the beginning and I love where it's going so far, keep doing your best and dont forget to pace yourself! Stay strong and keep being you!
A really impressive run! I love seeing the clean play you can pull out for these weaker Pokemon. Even with a huge limitation you can still make a really consistent run out of good routing, without having to really grind too much! I guess it's gonna be pretty tricky ever getting a super consistent with an ice weakness, huh? Almost always gonna be at risk of ice Beam from the cloysters, Dragonair and Lorelei's team...
It’s not so much the ice weakness, it’s not being able to one hit the Pokémon that can freeze. Damage ranges against the Cloysters, Jynx, Lapras, Hitmonchan (yes the hiker’s Hitmonchan can freeze you), Dragonair 2, And Dragonite. If all these Lance’s Dragonair is the worst because so many Pokémon need to Mimic ice beam off of it which exposes them to a potential freeze. It is really nice though when using a water type because Lance won’t ever go for the Ice move!
In gen 1 its got some ok stats distribution, but that move pool..... more like a move puddle. This will be interesting to see how you work this playthrough Scott.
Ooh, Golbat! I love Golbat and especially Crobat. I've named many of them in my time, but my favorite nickname is from Platinum. I named it "Noxurne", a portmanteau of sorts; like "nocturne" but with an x to represent the cross shape of Crobat.
Of corse the dome fossil is the correct choice for a speedrun. It's 1 character shorter, saving time on those two text boxes which clearly saves more time than the zigzag walk costs.
double feature! Scott and Vanman Golbat goodness! like I said on Vanman's video, thank you Scott for giving us a fun channel to allow us to get away from life's problem for a little while.
I'm amazed at how well Golbat did in Yellow! it must be one of the few pokemon better suited for Yellow than Red or Blue version as VanMans video shocked me lol. I wonder if because of it's performance compared to Meowth etc it might be why Gamefreak went ahead & gave it a third evolution line in the later gens as Crobat is a beast and was always a constant on my team when I was playing! Great vid again Scott appreciate the work you put in and as always I enjoy a collab with VanMan too!
Golbat's always going to stick out in my mind because of the Pokémon Adventures manga. Koga has a Golbat there and faces Agatha's Arbok, which is made more powerful by the symbols on its hood/stomach area. So what does Koga do? He tells his Golbat to suck out his blood and spit it over the symbols, nullifying them and letting him take the win. That takes some serious guts to have this thing, which is known for how much blood it drains, deliberately suck the life out of you for the win. Impressive results here!
I am so happy that I predicted the use of Hyperbeam. BTW about Golbats Special stat, in my latest playthrough of Gold I used a Crobat and it`s Giga Drain was really useful despite it´s Sp Atk. stat actually being lower in Gen 2...

@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I'm just glad I've got a nice backlog of your videos to pass the time. @@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Only if you think there's something that fits, of course. Also, looking forward to when you use Golbat in other generations. They get some pretty good moves and builds. In Gen 3, I used a female golbat as part of a nuzlocke, and she had the 'annoyer' move set of confuse ray, attract, poison fang and i think wing attack (60atk version). Worked pretty well, though Muk can top that annoyer strategy with minimize and body slams.
you should try out the chinese bootleg of pokémon yellow for NES. it’s surprisingly… good! might be fun for a one-off, especially because it is mechanically very different from most of the other games. it’s running on gen 3 rules for stats and move types. but, some move effects are like gen 1 (there is no phasing) and there’s also a smattering of later gen moves (nidoran male learns revenge at level 12).
Whoa that's pretty surprising! 75 Special being surprisingly good. Plus having Hyper Beam I think ended up being a really huge help for it. Most Pokemon have good enough movepools in some way that Hyper Beam isn't really worth the time investment needed, as you're taxed both on time getting the coins and on time picking up the items you need to afford the coins in the first place. But Golbat...yeah Golbat is rather dire. Always impressed with how much your knowledge and ability with these games have grown. Even from what I started watching which wasn't too long ago, you've definitely gotten a lot better.
Thanks for the compliment regarding my play. I’ve been working hard to get better. Glad it’s visible. Pokémon that benefit from hyper beam are strong physical attackers that do poorly using their normal movepool. For example, I think Beedrill is a good Hyper Beam candidate as well. Or Scyther!
Golbat is one of those mons that really surprise me whenever I decide to use it. Like, yeah, training it at the start of the game as Zubat makes it rather painful, because it doesn't learn good moves (though I guess in Gen1, that doesn't apply) but after that, it's surprisingly decent. In Gen1, Confuse Ray + Screech are kind of neat, plus Mega Drain deals with Rock. Then in Gen2 (where I used it the most) it usually ends up being a really nice flinch mon with Headbutt, Bite and Confuse Ray. Toxic also helps. Good budget mon for sure. That freeze sucked hard though. Regardless, a great showing!
When I was a kid my cousin kept wanting to play my game so I went to the game corner and had him buy coins for me, telling him that's how you played Pokemon. Got a Porygon and a cousin who stopped wanting my gameboy in one fell swoop!
The zubat evolution tree is one of my favorite Pokemon evolutions trees. If not my favorite since I was a kid I've always used them. And this is back in red blue and yellow. And when we get crobat
Your ability to make these is incredible. With my own ADHD I would love to make my own videos but I am so slow and indecisive, It just made me realize I have lots to learn lol
Just look at my old videos. I was all over the place. The only way I actually get stuff done is my ultimate rule is "I release once a week... no matter what." I force myself to move fast enough and just get it done, even if it isn't perfect, and sometimes, even if I don't think it's good.
Leech Life may be super effective against Starmie, but Bite would have still done more damage. So you should have used Bite to finish it off when it was in range to be knocked out by it.
Very interesting result from a pokemon with bad typing, limited movepool and no way to badge boost by itself. By all means it should be a lot worse, but despite all weakness Golbat showed commanding results in the latter half of the second playthrough, which display exactly why the shuffling of the rankings were needed (and I do believe i will need another shuffle, but not for awhile). I think my 2 biggest surprises were how good Golbat was tanking Special Attacks (even considering how it's s fairly decent Sp. Wall) and how speedy it was without extra vitamins (and by extension how many crits it was landing). "I was lucky Exeggutor didn't hit the first Hypnosis" I mean, after your playthroughs I figured you would get that the lucky result is a successful Hypnosis, not a miss, even if he hit in the second playthrough. Also, I might be mixing up my generation mechanics, but I think Gen 1 has an increased chance of the IA missing status moves, which makes his Hypnosis even worse then yours. Something interesting to consider is that a few small changes to Yellow would make the game a lot harder to do this challenges. Stuff like giving Surge and Sabrina good AI, taking out Double Team from Giovanni's Persian and Amnesia from Lorelei"s Slowbro and maybe replacing Ice Beam from Lance's Dragonair.
While common as hell Golbat was always worthy of a spot on the original roster. Once Crobat came out, it became a truly great selection for your fly spot.
When I was a kid I always believed that ghost Pokémon could only be hit by energy based attacks and nothing physical, so I would always use water, electric, fire, or psychic based moves. I never tried flying because my mind set was “normal moves don’t hit, nor do fighting. Flying is obviously just a bird hitting it so it won’t work”

55:02 - Poor Paras and Hitmonchan got dropped down that tier list hard. Glad to see Golbat placed well though. Turns out using it's giant gaping mouth to fire out laser beams is a useful tactic!
I love that you named him Nosferatu. Makes me happy.
Absolutely! It’s so much better than the unoriginal “Batman” or “Nightwing”. (Now I gotta finish my current save with Batman12😂).
It's so fucked that Pidgey and Spearow can learn Fly but Golbat can't
Indeed. And in Yellow they have Charizard Fly. They could have given it to Golbat then too.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon they don't give Golbat Fly until *Gen 4* lol
the Zubat line's French names are actually based on Nosferatu but with altered endings. Nosferapti, Nosferalto and Nostenfer.
Amazing! I didn’t know that. Really cool.
Golbat cool AF, second favorite Mon after hypno
We all know the Rapping Lass’s stage name is “Jr Trainer,” but she’s still a Lass.
Exactly
Whenever I see someone buying coins I'm reminded of a Glitch less Pokedex run Shenanigans did where he did a Pokemon Yellow Any% run as he bought coins for Porygon.
Yup! Takes forever
One of my favorite Pokemon! Have you seen Golbat in the Stadium games? It's legitimately cute. Especially how it rocks from side-to-side with its wings covering it like Dracula's cape.
I just want to say that im so glad that I subbed to you. I still remember your old Beedrill video and knew this was gonna be a great channel. Keep up the fantastic work Scott!
Thanks so much! Things have come along way since Beedrill!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Absolutely! I've been on this journey since the beginning and I love where it's going so far, keep doing your best and dont forget to pace yourself! Stay strong and keep being you!
Psychic/Ice Venomoth… ooooo.. scary typing my friend, stay safe out there!
Unthinkable! Golbat fared so well, so well! I used to like it in the past, surprisingly!
I love Golbat, especially the weird tongue sprite; it had it in Stadium too! Also, weird with it having the generic monster party sprite
I unironically like golbat... and crobat is amazing
I absolutely love the memeing on venemoth lol every episode you get its types wrong and i love it
Electric / Psychic is pretty scary for Golbat to deal with.
that second run was super amazing i think golbat def coulda snuck up a tier for that 1 reset run, anyways keep it up :3
Wrapping lass
You don't know she might be a rapper
With them grass types
That Freeze against Dragonnair was so painful.
:(
Defensively speaking, Flying/Poison typing has a good set of resistances and immunities to work with.
Not in this game, though.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon mm I meant the ice weakness being a problem because of the way it causes the air to drop ice beams on you!
In gen 1 its got some ok stats distribution, but that move pool..... more like a move puddle.
This will be interesting to see how you work this playthrough Scott.
Move puddle. That’s perfect.
Ooh, Golbat! I love Golbat and especially Crobat. I've named many of them in my time, but my favorite nickname is from Platinum. I named it "Noxurne", a portmanteau of sorts; like "nocturne" but with an x to represent the cross shape of Crobat.
Noxurne is an awesome Crobat name!
Maybe I'll name mine Nocturne (I love Chopin's Nocturne's after all...)
Of corse the dome fossil is the correct choice for a speedrun. It's 1 character shorter, saving time on those two text boxes which clearly saves more time than the zigzag walk costs.
Ahhh yes. That makes so much sense.
double feature!
Scott and Vanman Golbat goodness!
like I said on Vanman's video, thank you Scott for giving us a fun channel to allow us to get away from life's problem for a little while.
My pleasure!
Gen 1 Golbat will be a very interesting run as it has a bad move pool and poison types are generally bad in Gen 1
I feel like bad is an understatement. It's movepool is terrible.
VanMan’s strat was so different than mine! I really want to try Wing Attack in RB at some point to be able to compare it to the screechlife strategy.
11:55 Golbat should learn to slam with its feet... I was thinking with its giant tongue from its r/b sprite. 😂
Should learn Lick too
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon That would be interesting from an aesthetic perspective. Maybe that's why he doesn't really stick his tongue out anymore?
I've rewatched this 3 times to make sure I didn't miss anything lol great stuff man good job
The fact that you rewatched this makes me really happy. I’m glad my work was enjoyable on repeat viewings!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon for sure bro! Thanks for the entertainment
oh wow i had no idea hyper beam would improve the run so much! super interesting as always
I'm very glad I found a Pokemon that it makes sense on!
Absolute masterclass in routing here. Very impressive, great video.
Thanks Wide Right! I'm proud of how this one went in the end, even though the perfection was tarnished slightly by Lance.
I assume Leech Life wouldn't have KOd Rival Fievel's Kadabra?
Haha, "actual junior trainer"! Also, I love all the details of the routing and the little decisions!!
Glad you like the little details! Obviously I do too haha
FYI In Nosferatu the vampire's name is actually Count Orlok
Scott: This thing should learn to slam with its feet or something.
Me: But then it wouldn't be Body Slam, it would be Footy Slam :)
Otherwise known as "Stomp".
Hey Scott, everything for me is starting to get back to normal again. This is the first video I've watched in a while and as always excellent quality, I'm really glad you redid the tier list. I've got a lot to catch up on so you'll see a ton of comments from me coming up soon!!!
Glad to hear everything is getting back to normal for you. I'll look forward to your comments as you catch up!
I love your videos, please keep making them forever. They're great for easy listening like right now when I'm too sick to play games myself and just need something to pass the time. When I take medicine, I'm good for 4 hours, but can't take more for 6 hours, so I love saving your videos for the 2 hours where I can't have any medicine and I'm otherwise miserable and they're really saving me right now.
I'll keep making them as long as I can! (I'm not stopping anytime soon!) I'm sorry you're feeling so bad and that the medicine doesn't give you lasting relief. Sounds really awful. I'm glad my videos provide easy listening for you to pass the time with. Take care
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I'm just glad I've got a nice backlog of your videos to pass the time. Real neat to see how far your channel has progressed between your general game knowledge and the cool tech on screen to show stat boosts and stuff like that. I think that's really unique compared to other Pokemon youtubers, but yeah, your videos have been carrying me through the waiting period between reupping the medicine. I kinda wish I watched less of your videos when I wasn't sick so I'd have more to watch now, but ah well.
Do we have a new notable trainer? Jr. Pidgey Trainer?! :o Or maybe *Sandy* the Jr trainer? ;)
She’s been notable for awhile. But I haven’t considered getting her art yet. I should.
Bite + Hyper Beam combo was a smart play, would love a Crobat run in GSC... HINT HINT!! 😁
I’d love to do that one too!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Crobat is SOOOO good in GSC. You'll love it.
you should try out the chinese bootleg of pokémon yellow for NES. it’s surprisingly… good! might be fun for a one-off, especially because it is mechanically very different from most of the other games.
it’s running on gen 3 rules for stats and move types. but, some move effects are like gen 1 (there is no phasing) and there’s also a smattering of later gen moves (nidoran male learns revenge at level 12).
So many times Golbat was damaged enough to get nice health. It's almost like getting hurt makes it stronger...or, at least, more memetic! XD
Yeah, it did happen a ridiculous number of times in these runs!
Freeze is so freaking busted, poor Golbat on the second run
Yeah, that freeze was heartbreaking. Oh well!
When I was a kid my cousin kept wanting to play my game so I went to the game corner and had him buy coins for me, telling him that's how you played Pokemon. Got a Porygon and a cousin who stopped wanting my gameboy in one fell swoop!
I always love to see hyper beam come in clutch in a run!
Me too!
I'm only just seeing this, I didn't get a notification. I'll definitely watch the whole thing after while.
Hell yeah, my boi Golbat making the Crobat line proud!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I know you pain mom frere! I feel the same about my videos although it’s been a long time since I posted any new music
Leech Life may be super effective against Starmie, but Bite would have still done more damage. So you should have used Bite to finish it off when it was in range to be knocked out by it.
Don't worry Golbat, I'm sure Crobat will get revenge on Lance for you soon enough
"I was lucky Exeggutor didn't hit the first Hypnosis"
I mean, after your playthroughs I figured you would get that the lucky result is a successful Hypnosis, not a miss, even if he hit in the second playthrough.
Crobat is so awesome and the fact it evolves through friendship made me immediately love this line. I can't wait to use it in generation 2.
54:20 diff of -2 levels on de 2nd run??? Guess that was a small mistake..
Great video still. Loved seeing Gobat doing great! Keep up the good work
We do a lot proofing but mistakes always slip by. It is an endless frustration for me haha
He totally skipped over the buff hiker in the last run through lol
Whoops. Well, he didn’t really deserve the screen time.
I had Crobat once and I loved it. Though I do wonder how Golbat will perform here. So watching :)
When I was a kid I always believed that ghost Pokémon could only be hit by energy based attacks and nothing physical, so I would always use water, electric, fire, or psychic based moves. I never tried flying because my mind set was “normal moves don’t hit, nor do fighting. Flying is obviously just a bird hitting it so it won’t work”
Gotta say, I always thought Golbat's Yellow sprite looks like its either dancing, or drunk. XD
5:57 with the exception of that first attempt, the battle was easy-peasy!
8:21 Who knew this unassuming Nugget Bridge Lass would be such a boss?
10:11 I'm a bit surprised that Golbat managed to streamroll Misty.
14:02 Oh crap, I never noticed that until you pointed it out. I mean, I did notice that the artwork wasn't a Lass, but still. (Besides, Wrapping Lass sounds better) XD
14:40 Maybe the Status Condition Jr. Trainer is secretly a Lass in disguise.
23:28 Congrats on just barely defeating the Tamer! I almost thought you weren't gonna make it.
26:36 Wow, talk about cutting it close there.
32:18 That was super clutch against Arcanine!
52:25 Who would've thought that Golbat could pull off the legendary--OH YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!
I can't believe you almost made it to zero resets! Of course Lance had to stop you in your tracks... Still, Golbat's run was quite impressive, especially when compared to Zubat. Congrats!
Scott, and Vanman doing Golbat videos on the same day!!!
Happy Halloween!
I was expecting you naming it Orlok after the main vampire in Nosferatu, but that will do.
So surprised that Golbat did so well! I disliked this line as a kid but as an adult I love these because of how good they are in nuzlockes and my shinies
I think crobat is gen 1
Odd to think we had goldbat for a while
Kinda glad it got evolution
I just thinks makes the pokemon line better
