-- High crit rate moves determine their rate by dividing base speed by 64

-- Crits don't multiple damage by 2, it's a formula based on level

The spooky story from the guy in Celadon plays on the name of Curse itself: In Japanese, the words for “curse” and “slow” sound the same (のろい “noroi”), so ghost-types use the “curse” meaning and all others use the “slow” meaning. They couldn’t translate the pun into English obviously, so the humor of the story of a kid thinking their bike was *slowing* because it was *cursed* kinda got lost.

My dad had to tell me what weird symbol blobs meant heal, so that may have ended up being one of my first words I could read. I also started learning math without realizing it as I saw damage numbers. I also remember i liked magic damaging spells, so I think I started learning those too. At least, it logically would make sense as I don't see why I'd have wizards in my party if I didn't know how to use their spells.

Like, part of it explains the badge boost glitch in a way as of no one ever heard of it and is unfamiliar with game mechanics, so it’s simple to understand. Or like the Bide attack being affected by status conditions. Or other things you have encountered or shown in your various videos. It would be really enjoyable and useful to have them all to reference in one video. The way you explain things is super engaging so I thought it would be a cool addition to your page that people can have for their own reference and enjoyment too.

Yesterday, during your Gastly stream you and Matt were talking about the Ditto runs that Matt and Jrose have done. If you decide to do one, I recommend you watch Jrose's video first. He found a very helpful glitch.
When transformed, if you level up mid fight, you'll get Ditto's stats back. That could be helpful should you go up against someone who uses a bad Pokemon to start with. The won't help with trainers like Surge, since he only has one Pokemon in Yellow. I don't know how helpful that will be in the endgame, but in the early and mid game, it should be pretty handy.
I have no idea if the glitch works in gen 2 and beyond though. As far as I know, it's only a gen 1 thing

I'm just going to guess that the answer is "no." Despite its great stats, Aerodactyl is just too hamstrung in gen 1/2 by the lack of good STAB moves for its rock half existing, and by its terrible move list which keeps it from learning any good flying moves. I mean the best STAB it gets is a pair of 60 base power moves, one of which has only 5 PP. I think you'd have to wait until at least gen 3, maybe gen 4 for it to be great since by then there's actually some good moves to back up its stats and you get the physical/special split.

    • @musicstuff6310
      @musicstuff6310 ปีที่แล้ว

I mean pp ups and ethers/elixers exist for a reason. You can take that 5 and turn it into 6 or 7. Now thats somewhat decent pp, still not great.
Also hidden power having a chance for physical coverage is nice. Heck tbh aero with flamethrower solos koga and is good vs lance and bruno. Sure youd have to do menuing to restore pp, but really ancient power has a 10% chance to just gg whatever fight youre in. An omni boost and aeros base stats make up for low damaging moves.

Since we are sharing stories of our early experiences with pokemon. Christmas of 1996, just got pokemon blue. Never have I played an RPG before. It took me 4 months and a friend to show me how to LEAVE YOUR HOUSE! I figured out the stairs to go between the floors, but since the door was at the front of the building, I never thought to walk into the wall. Then, I finally left the house. I talked to the pokemart guy who gives you a free potion. I had never heard of that word, so to me, it was a pot-on. Later on, I caught a ratata. I told my dad what it was and that I wanted help with a nickname. To this day, I name my first ratata in a playthrough "Tar" because, as my Dad said, "Tar is rat backwards".

aerodactyl was finally getting it's redemption in this gen. 😁👏👏That ryn was super well played, but you haven't got the omni boost😂.
I really like to listen to your stories from childhood, about pokemon. I remember that as a kid ice path's ice puzzle was so hard for me to solve, it took me a week to get it right... So I grinded my pokemon to level 40 so that I can keep playing the game. 😂
And pokemon yellow was my first pokemon game, I was 4 when I was playing that, and I didn't know how to English or my native language yet, but my siblings helped me with that, because I've borrowed the game from them. 😊Then when my brother got pokemon gold we all played in his save file, and I helped him complete the pokedex as much as we could back then. At about when I was 6 i think my parents got us a copy of pokemon crystal, but it couldn't save our games and it was in German for some reason. So we had to return it And I was so sad, because really wanted to complete that game so bad. So after a while when I was 12 or 13, and I have completed pokemon crystal, and started to hate the rocket plot line after completing the game multiple times, and I still do to this day. 😅
So thanks for reminding me these wonderful childhood memories. Maybe because of these things I like pokemon to this day. 😁

Yellow and gold and trade over all the pokemons i collected from de gen 1 gamesto my crystal file and from there on proceeded to the battle tower and that for ever changed the way i viewed pokemon game because at the battle tower i finally understood what the game was about and i could finally read enough english to understand and i remember taking a real liking to the turn based strategie aspect of the game

Oh man nostalgia about the old days huh?
Mind if I share my own?
Back in Gen2 I never owned my own copy but instead i'd be borrowing my friend's games!
The kicker? They weren't in english and it was one of those pirated rom games!
I was never able to track down a copy in english and all I kept finding were those fake versions! But I was able to memorize the game thanks to this! So when my friends needed help they'd go to me!

  • @KimFareseed

I feel that Raikou story, though, not only was there a reading barrier for me, but a language barrier as well.
Didn't help that the anime at the time aslo decided to localize move names, so there went that option to learn, unless spellings were more or less shared.
Least to say, got better at memorizing what I did to get the game to progress instead of learning English.
Never really cought more and replaced Pokémon on the team, because I played Yellow and Silver, just tried to match Ash's team as closely as I could, though I did evolve the Pokémon. Less chances to relase Pokémon if I didn't have an interest in using them. Still stuck in that, only use the first 6 cought mentalitu, and when I tried to, switch Pokémon out, I burnt myself out by capturing pne of everything I didn't already have, and didn't continue on untill ALL of them reached the same level as the next gymleader before challenging them...
Worst idea that I evet got. Just grinding, upon grinding, upon grinding.
Ended with me clearing each reginal Kalos Dex before picking up the next, did get back and forth trade help from friends for the registration of the legendaries,(thank you the want of clearing the Battle Chatue before progressing, to speed up training.) So, full team of 6 level 100 before ever reaching the 2nd gym.
Least to say, I am going back to just the 6 first catches...
I think that I might have gone off topic here...

I remember playing Gold/Silver fan-made translation before the official one was released. It was painful as a lot of the text were corrupted.
I think double-kick got translate-corrupted into "Wu Shu" which is kinda of funny.
Fast-forward to today and now I play Japanese games in their original language.

Oh also, since you happened to get rid of Curse this time, I had an interesting idea for how it could have been used better.
Basically, it doesn't apply on turns when you get the knockout, but switching no longer cures it, and it does damage to whatever Pokemon is/are out until one of them faints, or the battle ends. This way it feels a lot more daunting, like a curse should. That, or it just does 1/16th damage to your entire party if you don't get a knockout.

I told my brother about it and he called me a liar, and that only Gyarados could be red (shiny donphan in silver was red so I called it a red donphan). It wasn’t until he fished up a shiny poliwag about 2 months later that he did eventually believe my story. Ah the days of heresay and rumours.

Is it possible that ancient power's omniboost doesn't have a change trigger if it's used on a turn where the opposing pokemon is knocked out? I haven't used it in GSC much so I might be way of base, but it wouldn't surprise me given how buggy some interactions are in gens 1 & 2.

When I got older and learned about Ivs and Evs/ stat experience I never got stuck on her again. I also started carrying a fighting type move for that pesky umbreon and houndoom. The nostalgia this game brings is immense.

I really like your personal stories about playing Pokémon when you were younger. :)
They remind me of my own experience I had with Gen 1 and 2. Especially your story about not being able to read ...
For example: I remember playing Pokémon Yellow when I was 10 years old and since I'm from Germany, I had ... well, a german copy, of course. But there was the trainer class called "Teenager" and since it's an english word I never heard before, I always read "Tee-Nager", which means something like "tea gnawer" or "tea rodent" in German. I imagined that these trainers liked to gnaw on their tea cups, which didn't make sense, but I didn't know better and just took it as a fact... xD
Anyway, thanks for redeeming Aerodactyl! I love that aggressive looking Rock Bird!
Your videos are lot of fun!

27:08 the #1 getting lost for me was the Magma Hideout in Emerald. You arrive in Lilicove, try to go east, nope. So you find the aqua hideout... but the grunts are blocking the stairs. How was I expected to remember that single Magma grunt half of the game ago on the other side of the map that was standing near a wall? That section has a lot of potential to get lost too, I still sometimes forget that you also have to go to Mount Pyre and the order you're supposed to do these 3.
There's a couple of spots like that in Hoenn when you have to backtrack without a good hint where, but that Lilycove debacle is the only one that kept annoying me even in the later playthroughs when I was a teen and could read some English.

About Ice Path, I had the same issue for a long time. I ended up having some kid at church do it for me and I was so thankful. Today, I don't have any problems with these kinds of puzzles. The Myst series taught me how to see patterns and think several steps ahead. Thanks to my dad for having me play those.
Also if no one has said it yet, Hitmontop didn't use Dig because Aerodactyl is immune to it.

I felt that Slowpoke Well anecdote on such a personal level! When my brother and I were little, our mother found two Gameboys, Pokemon Yellow, Gold, and Silver, and Pokemon Pinball at a car-boot market. We were so excited to finally have the games after watching so much of the cartoon, but we had no idea how to play them.
The thing is, we didn't know how to leave the house. It didn't click that the doormat was an exit to the room so we thought the games were broken. We were trapped. Disappointed and angry, we ended up just watching the opening cutscenes or playing Pinball.
One afternoon I discovered that walking into a wall makes a funny thud noise. I started walking into every spot on the walls until eventually I stumbled out the front door and our lives changed forever.

Have you ever tried the Polished Crystal ROM hack? If your like me and gen 2 was your favourite growing up, its quite a pleasure to play. They've updated mechanics to modern gens with p/s split, newer moves, added more trainers and bumped the difficulty. They also added some newer mons without changing the feel of the game, like only evolutions from the original 251 are in it like Mamoswine, Leafon, Magmortar, etc. If you do feel like playing it, get the 3.0 beta, its the full game still. It might be a nice break, but it's quite difficult and time consuming lol.

This is a third comment but I don’t care, it’s for the YT algorithm. Story from my childhood as a kid. I remember when I would release Pokémon, I would specifically try to do it in areas where you couldn’t normally find that Mon. Then I would spend hours trying to see if I could find my Pokémon I had just released in the wild grass nearby. Never could obviously. I just thought as a kid it would’ve been so cool if you could find your old friend you had set free in the past.
