@키미 Totally agree. That's why I'm so happy to have found his rankings reviews. At last, someone who knows what he's talking about and is totally unbiased. I've lost count with how many so-called rankings I've wasted time on, because the poster has no idea what they are talking about, has no vocal training themselves, is totally biased and the rankings are just ridiculous. Then the fans go nuts in the comments, cursing and threatening each other. Its just crazy, and all because a fan has a juvenile need to have their bias 'No.1'.

So glad you included Jessica - many people pretend she never existed even though she was the 2nd main vocalist for SNSD’s most active career years. Her recent cover of Let it Go was heavenly. Wish SM didn’t blacklist her from promoting her solo career on major broadcast channels.

i definitely think SM didn’t utilize Tiff as much bcz Tiffany has good belts but her mix is very inconsistent she tends to push her chest voice more than always mixing it. I definitely see Tiffany improving more and more
Tiff’s bad days were mostly when covering Jessica’s part THE 2ND MAIN VOCALIST. So like what do y’all expect from her,she’s definitely good the hate was definitely unnecessary.
The biggest problem of Tiffany in her singing career is that SM made her hit a lot of highnotes that doesn't suit to her technique and her strength lies on her lower register which she does best (well, SM does give her that too). But, there are some members who are neglected in this situation too and that is Sunny which is more technically skilled in that area. Like if you will read the comments that Sunny and Seohyun should take her highnotes left by Jessica. Taeyeon cannot take anything, that would make her voice fatigue. Another thing is Tiffany is not that smart when it comes to picking a song that she should sing, but that damn thing changed when she arrived in America. She got smarter, musicality wise, but technical wise, no.
Alexandra Anceno i understand you but what i meant with utilize is that SM didn’t teach Tiffany how to mix properly. It seems like all the other members(vocal line) have learned it except for Tiffany. Sunny Seohyun and Jessica already trained for years at SM so they obv learned it better. Taeyeon was at a vocsl school so she just learned it,and Tiffany hmm she only trained 2 years with not being pushed as a leas vocalist @ debut but when she became more popular thrn they started to give her those high notes ect. They chose Tiff bcz of thr power of her voice she and Taeyeon are the powerhouse vocalists(by tone) so that’s why. Tiff has so many moments where she’s actually mixing and not pushing chest voice like in mr mr at sketchbook. But smth cool is that Tiff is the only member to hit a G5 in full chest voice lolol

I mean, Sunny doesn't have a nice lower register from the rest of the vocal line and that puts her in the same position as Tiffany. Anyway, let's just blame SM for this. LOL

Taeyeon keeps on improving with her support and i’m so scared for how much she’s still gonna improve. The older she got the wider her support became shdnhdj like i’m so in shock. She’s chest dominant but she can still sustain it and isn’t struggling with it. She’s nowadays very consistent with singing F5’s ect but her F#5’s and G#5’s sounded so great like in Fashion she has been hitting 73737 G#5’s lmao
That's because she goes solo. When in group, she relies on Jessica on part where she lacks. But after going solo and Jessica gone, she needs to improve

there is not one bad singer in soshi let's start there, but just like every group there are strong vocalists and vocalists who are not as strong. yoona is not as good as taeyeon OBVIOUSLY but she can still sing and carry a tune. sooyoung is my bias so people could say that im being biased but sooyoung is super solid and can outsing some groups' lead vocalists. sunny is incredibly underrated and i think with technique and practice she could blow people away!

Sunny how she gets hate? She was always great, people just disliked that she maybe got into the group because of her connection with Lee Soo-man. But even if it's true, in my opinion she's a top5 dancer and vocal in SNSD as she sang high notes too, nobody hated her vocals, they hated her success

I am a SONE since 2010, I've been supporting this group for a long time, and while it's true that right now, members who hadn't focused on musical related projects for a long time lost their stamina... when they were promoting nonstop Seohyun was one of the best members at keeping her vocal stability

like SM made her focus on dancing and if youre a sone you know that in a performance, Yuri cares a lot about her image, like how she looks on stage, maybe also because she was originally the sexy member of the group, then she got used to singing only on where she's comfortable at and the volume she's comfortable at.

For so long, I've been saying she's the 4th best in the group, but everyone was like "all she does is the aegyo voice she's too high she's not versatile" but no one wanted to look into it at all. It doesn't happen as much nowadays luckily.
Sunny at 4th suprised me but I was so happy because she was also bashed a lot by people saying she can't sing and only made it into SNSD because she's the niece of the founder of SM, Lee Soo Man :(

people always underestimate sunny’s abilities as a vocalist just because she has used a higher-pitched voice for most of SNSD’s career (although her natural voice is deep). sunny has a really good vocal technique. period.
Her voice isn't deep tho, she is a lyric soprano or a colatura soprano.
You’re litterally doing my favorite groups back to back and each time I come back to your channel it another one of my favorite groups. I’m so excited for the dreamies, but I’m so glad you got to see Taeyeon, shes my favorite female vocalist and I love to share her with everyone cause she just has something about her vocals that enchant you. Have you see the live stage for fine because it’s so cool to see how truly powerful her vocals are, especially when she lets the music quiet down and all your left with is her vocals. SNSD is my favorite group/artist of all time, their music, personalities, and everything they've shown for the past 13 years has captured me to be a fan forever.
Yoona has the potential to be a really good vocalist I think it's her confidence in singing is what's lacking and of course, proper vocal training. She actually used to project well and sing more forward during their early days, if you listen to SNSD's first album I think you'll see what I mean. I think she just became too conscious of her singing which is sad cause she can do more.
Hyoyeon, oh boy, Hyoyeon has so much potential she has the basics and can sing well despite the lack of proper vocal training. She actually belted a C#5 in this performance th-cam.com/video/I4WKd59hzM4/w-d-xo.html and just hearing that one belt I knew she has the potential.
Yuri is a consistent one, she has an easier time singing in those higher ranges cause she naturally has a light voice. I think what she lacks is she doesn't use much chest voice in her singing and that makes it hard for her to have that belting potential.
I really really like Sooyoung's voice, she has such a pretty tone. Sooyoung has more power than Yuri because her placement is more forward and she uses her chest voice more. Sooyoung is just solid and yeah I agree about her mix.
I think most of us agree that Tiffany and Sunny are almost equal, they just have different fortes. The thing with Tiffany is, idk, she's inconsistent on doing very well(?) if that makes sense? Tiffany is a really good vocalist but because she sang outside her comfort range throughout her career in SNSD and SM kept giving her lines that are hard to pull off with her range. And thank you for mentioning the hate she has received. People are too harsh on Tiffany she absolutely doesn't receive the hate she had been subjected to.
Sunny's lower range is weak but her mix is good I just think her mix is too heady and that brings inconsistencies when she's belting or when she goes higher. She also has an unstable vibrato compared to the other members but her head voice is really really good, proof is their song 'Girlfriend' in the 2nd mini album where she casually sings in G#5 and goes up to A5.
Seohyun is just a well-rounded vocalist. She's consistent, has a good mix, and just overall good. What I admire about her is her dedication. She wanted to take more vocal lessons even if she's been active for years but SM didn't do anything and she took the initiative to find a way to improve herself. That's one of the reasons why she tried out musicals.
Jessica, I feel is the perfect main vocal counterpart to Taeyeon. They were both equal when SNSD debuted but I think Jessica had more potential back then which is why I find it sad that she didn't show improvements over the years. This is what I think and I could be wrong but from what I've observed I think she lost passion in singing which is understandable since idol life is extremely draining. I guess that's why she stayed consistent compared to the other members but she is still great.
Taeyeon was just born to be a singer. That's the only thing I can say to her. She lives to sing and she sings to live that's one of the main reasons why I fell in love with her. She is just the best for me.
Sorry for the long comment lol I just love SNSD so much. All of them can sing and half of them are such good vocalists. Jessica's, Sunny's, and Hyoyeon's vocal tones have to be my favorites thou.

GGChoColat like she’s was a moved to lead vocalist just right before Gee. And Tiffany was moved from Sub-Vocalist to Vocalist then to Lead Vocalist right after Jessica left and they needed someone to do more of the belting and verbrato. Overall Sunny is a more consistent and better singer although Tiffany did rise to her rank really quickly and honestly is amazing. Seohyun can’t be defeated though to be honest.
Sunny is soooo underrated, she literally became my bias the very first time I heard her voice, it's a very sweet and light voice and it's charged with feelings, when she sings sad songs you cry... she has this "crying" tone where you can tell she's really feeling the song and almost crying herself, that's awesome!

She never know Korean language.. She moved to. Korean when she is 15 y/o.. And she just learned Korean for 3 years only then debut with SNSD.
This is. Why Tiffany barely got line when their. Rookie era (2007 - 2009) and she started to got more. Line when. Genie era (2010).. She even beat seohyun and sunny. Line distribution since Genie era.
After jess left.. She had been treated like Main Vocalist and replaced jess position in the Group (singing hard line along with Tae)
afiq zamri she was a sub vocalist but then she moved the ranked really quickly. I know that she lived and was born and raised in America. She wasn’t ever really treated like a main. Taeyeon was always the clear main. But she was treated as a lead. Like she should have been. In the genie era she was a vocalist. She was only promoted to lead vocalist after Jessica left. That’s a fact.
I saw Tiffany in concert last year and her live vocals are incredible! Plus she sang the entirety of Run Devil Run by herself which was impressive. By the way, I know this new setup was also in the last video too, but it looks very professional
Glory Towers05 I totally agree; saw her at her Lips on Lips and Magnetic Moon concerts . Tiffany performing live is spellbinding with all the attention focused on just her singing in her comfort zone. Her solo work is so much better than her work with SM who didn’t know how to use her voice to it’s best potential.
Absolutly agree with the ranking all the way through. Btw Tayeon mid-low register developed quite noticebly since she started her solo career.
P.S. So who's next? f(x) the group that had, arguably, the best female vocalist SM ever produced or Super Junior with their holy trinity of main vocalists?
I shall certainly look at both of those guys. After we've done NCT Dream, we'll take a small break from SM and look at some others. And then we will do those two big videos!!

I've gotta admit I´m not as familiar with the 2nd gen of kpop as I am with the 3rd and the 4th but obviously SNSD is a legendary group so this was interesting. Taeyeon is such a great vocalist, can´t wait for her comeback. Also, I´m really excited for Nct dream, I´m not as familiar with them as I am with 127 but I really enjoyed their recent comeback

I love hearing you talk about the unnecessary hate Tiffany gets for her voice. I think people tend to forget that she had vocal nodules before and had to get treated for it. As a result her voice actually became huskier and that’s fine. Her voice is never going to be what it was before having that, but her voice is great as it is. I do to prefer her singing to Sunny but I have to agree with all the key points you made.
I’m so happy that more and more people are acknowledging Sunny! I feel like her voice can be so overlooked in a group of such amazing singers and when I watched that video of her in her musical I was shocked! I mean she’s my bias but I never knew that she was THAT good.
I’m so happy you did this group!!!! So so happy! They are one of the most internationally known Kpop groups and all eyes were on them for nearly a decade. Taeyeon’s voice simply can heal broken hearts. It’s like a saxophone.
It’s so nice to see someone else rank Jessica before Seohyun and Sunny before Tiffany for the exact same reasons you mentioned. I think Jessica’s potential and peak is higher than Seohyun’s, but Seohyun has shown more improvement than Jessica in the recent years. It’s really a shame that Jessica, as much as she sings and has the potential to be better, doesn’t further hone her craft like Taeyeon has who I think has also shown so much progression and improvement since the start of her solo career. Of course, she sings more for her fans and more casually whereas Taeyeon just truly overflows with passion for it. While I think that like Seohyun, Tiffany has shown more improvement than Sunny, I still think Sunny is generally still a better singer and hate that people overlook her talent just because she has regressed. The only part of your ranking I don’t agree with is Hyoyeon being a better singer than Yoona, but other than that, I really like that you tried to be as objective as possible considering all factors.
Imo Sunny didn't improve much unlike Tiffany and Seohyun because I remember Sunny talking to Boa saying that she lost her confidence in singing and her voice is like an MSG because some vocal director said that her voice is boring and because of thatshe keeps delaying her solo debut until now.

for me, jessica's voice is one of the most beautiful voices in kpop. her voice is unique, delicate and at the same time so powerful, it is so rare to find a vocal like hers. I really wanted her to dedicate herself to music as before, but nowadays she has another priority, which I understand
girls' generation is so cool. your videos on 2 gen groups are nice to watch, i think. since i only got here in 2018 i don't know older groups well, i only see them as iconic and legendary, without actually being very familiar with the group and it's members. it's nice to be able to truly appreciate snsd's abilities even though they were before my time. so thank you for making this video, all of these women can sing, they're very talented.
SNSD, Mamamoo, and Brown eyed girls have the best vocal lines in girl groups I've ever heard tbh.

Thank you for acknowledging Seohyun's vocal skills. She often gets overlooked just because she doesn't belt. She IS the 3rd vocalist of the group. I still feel as though she wasn't utilized enough by SM. Her solo projects post-SM, albeit few, prove that she could have done more in the group.
I think its because she is the same group with such vocal behemoths that her voice tends to be overlooked. It's one of my main peeved with groups with huge numbers, some member will get sidelined.
Ian Oh she’s kinda the “middle” voice. We have Taeyeon and Tiffany’s power and loudness, and we have Jessica and Sunny’s sweet, high-placed voices. Mainly why she’s the best at harmonizing because her voice tends to blend the easiest. Her voice has all the characteristics I’ve mentioned for the other four.

Since Taeyeon's solo debut until now you can see a great development and control in her voice wherein she can now make her higher notes lighter instead of powerful when the emotions of the song calls for it. She learned even more how to make the most out of her voice through years. She also learned how to switch her high notes into a more delicate and lighter feel but still giving the complete sound and feel the song is required to be felt, heard and understood.
Her voice even became clearer and clearer throughout the years and sounds like stars that are about to burst and give out its blinding brightness that gives you a full experience in her high notes and bridges. And some of her best songs had been those are have a light touch of musical accompaniment with taeyeon's voice being the leading variable in the song like hotel de luna's ost (a poem titled you) wherein you werent given too much of the musical background but mooore of taeyeon's voice. 😍😍😍
Not related, by it's great to see a fellow British person talking about kpop! Also, I'm happy that you placed Sunny's voice 4th as I really think she's an underrated vocalist, and she really is a great, consistent idol singer for a group like SNSD

Seohyun: “Outside of the top 2, to me Seohyun’s voice is by far the most well-rounded, the most balanced and has the most calls and avenues it has access to.”
Jessica: “Jessica’s voice was really interesting and I would have been absolutely curious to see how it progressed as she went on and to me she still of all the voices probably has the best, outside number one.”

I STRONGLY agree that you our Sunny over Tiffany. Sunny has the most developed headvoice in the entire SNSD, ease in mixed voice, and non-existent low range, while Tiffany struggles to bring her support to notes higher than Bb4, got some potential in headvoice, and the second best low range in SNSD. And contradict to the popular beliefs, Jessica actually has the most developed lower range in SNSD, with Tiffany and Seohyun come in second and third respectively. Jessica easily supports down to G3 so consistently, and has some good moments in F#3’s. Taeyeon used to struggle so much with lower range, she was the 2nd least developed low range with Sunny being the least. But around her solo debut Taeyeon got herG#3’s down, and now she has a fair amount of good G3’s.
Jessica has never been consistent with support other than their first 3 years of their career lol.

I agree that Sooyoung should be first from the dance line but I believe that Yuri is closer (in vocal ability) to Soo than Hyo. Especially around debut, Yuri seemed like she had potential to be added to the vocal line but SM pushed her more in the direction of dance and visual. Yuri was always main dancer material as the 2nd best dancer in the group and her visual was popular since she became known for her physical fitness and “body of gold”. When SNSD debuted, there really weren’t a lot of girl groups with a lot of members. A huge part of SNSD’s success came from the way SM was able to market each member for her own specific strength allowing each member popularity and their own talking point on shows, etc. Taeyeon had her voice, Hyoyeon as the dancer, Yoona had her visual and went into acting early, Tiffany was the ‘American girl’ with the eye smile, Sunny was known for her ayego, Jessica was the intimidating visual ‘ice princess’, Yuri was the fitness goddess with her famous tan, Sooyoung had her height and long legs, and Seohyun was the innocent maknae. I’m in no way saying these were the members’ only strengths but this was generally how they were marketed leading up to and at their peak popularity. It obviously worked very well but it also prevented the general public and even part of the fandom from seeing the members as singers too instead of just idols, causing most of the group to be over looked regarding their vocals until much later, especially the dance line. While deciding how to best utilize Yuri’s voice, SM also seemed to have the issue of not really knowing how they wanted her to sound which is why her voice essentially changes depending on the song. At debut, Yuri was the member who really could have been put anywhere. She had dance, potential in vocals(especially under SM), and a popular visual. In many cases, this would make a very impressive idol but it made it that much harder for SM to give her a specific, unique role in their new group of 9 girls. As a result, I think Yuri either could have learned exceptional vocal control or have gotten stuck in a place of vocal confusion to adapt her voice to the ever-changing sound SM expected of her. Unfortunately, it seems she fell into the latter, likely because SM never invested any serious vocal training for Yuri once they had already decided her role to be more centered in visual and dance. It’s hard to tell how this made Yuri feel, but she never seemed like she had the ambition to be among the best singers of the group. Meanwhile, Tiffany was always very passionate and driven in becoming a good singer, but at debut her Korean was still lacking so she got easier and less lines than Yuri did. As time went on, Tiffany became fluent and remained just as insistent in wanting to sing and SM admired her hard work so she was given more opportunities to show her vocals, later going on to become one of the lead vocalist. Tiffany also lacked an impressive ability in dance so SM had less places for her to shine in performances than Yuri. Tiffany was probably always a better singer than Yuri, even at debut, but now I think it is very clear that Tiffany ranks higher. Still, I believe Yuri could have made a good lead vocalist with better training and guidance. It really was never about making the best vocalists that SM could make, but rather who could be marketed in specific areas best, or in Tiffany’s case, how clear of a vision the trainee/idol had of what they wanted to become. It requires effort and investment from both the individual and the company to get the best results in cases like these and I think the case of Yuri and Tiffany is a good example of this.
Edit: I do agree with the ranking as outlined in this video and that all of the members can sing. I just feel that Hyo and Yuri aren’t that interchangeable in their vocal abilities and that SNSD’s individual vocal development wasn’t as simple as who is naturally better. Very true. I miss the good old days when Yuri used to be the best singer among the dancers, after Jessica (a lead dancer during debut days). Both of them are missed potential in singing. Both of them regressed as well. They used to be so passionate :(
Everything you said is true. I am Yuri and Jessica biased. SM pushed Yuri to focus on her dancing and Jessica on her singing. Both have incredible visuals.
@@skyking8499 yess this is very true in fact Jessica was also promoted as a visual a lot (tbh the whole group was to an extent) Many considered her the 2nd visual with Yoona (they look a lot alike sometimes) and SM especially promoted the visual triplets Yuri, Yoona, and Seohyun even tho they were never actually given the position. 2nd gen really pioneered the idea of having visual as a position tho so it was still somewhat fluid where third gen really focused more on just 1 or 2 members. I think it suits Jessica because of her long interest in fashion and designing.
Very good analysis for Hyoyeon. I love having her as the main dancer of Girls' Generation, and she's probably my second favorite member after Taeyeon, but her talent as a singer and rapper shine far more brightly in her solo work than in the group. I'm glad that she started getting more attention after Good Girl - she's really a powerful and charismatic performer in her lane.

2.Because she is like nasal and gets whiny

Sunny was never really given any chance to show what she’s capable of. I think one of the main reaons why people place her below Tiffany is because of the latter’s shouting/belting that comes off as “power/range”. Idk how to put it into words, but Tiffany is very much influenced by western singers as to why she belts every thing out of her range. I mean, we rarely heard Sunny belt.

also sunny when she sings lower notes sounds amazing (such as in Genie for instance)! Sunny in general is a pretty underrated vocalist in SNSD. Many say she can't sing and isn't needed in the group. Which is obviously wrong.

i recommend checking out jessica's cover of dangerous woman and how deep is your love. her higher register was showcased so well in the DW one!! im not very sure, but ive heard she did a whistle note in that live performance!
Even though I love Soo's voice, the reason I consider Yul more powerful is initially her early days, during that time she had a really high pitch, it was so much that her first songs with snsd received several lines, but Then I noticed that all that changed in Gee (I think it was partly because she had some problems with her throat), she was seen more in dance issues. Currently, she does not practice her voice much because she is in acting, and her cooking channel, but I know if she did it, like Soo, we would see the great potential she has. I can say that her voice is really good, only that Sm (until ITNW) has not known how to work it thoroughly and You can tell that she has lost self-confidence in singing. I would like to recommend her Ending Credit , Chapter 2,Butterfly,Star Star and Bling Star ♡. In spite of everything, I think they are both good singers, and they deserve too much love.
i would personally add to Jessica that
she has pitch issues and that she goes flat on most of her higher notes. Her support was good but she sometimes favored style over technique. Jessica was good but it’s weird how her supported range isn’t as wide or consistent like Seohyun (confusion)
Seohyun before only supported up to like B4 but all of a sudden she started to support C5’s and even C#5’s like aah her improvement
Jessica has been consistent with her B4’s but she had some good moments above that so idk it’s so weirdd
Seohyun's improvement didn't just come suddenly out of thin air. After she auditioned and took the lead role in 'Gone with the Wind', she attended vocal classes because the specific musical role requires a more theatre-like singing style, that's when she became more consistent with a healthier technique and with resonance as well. And Seohyun has been supporting C5's here and there ever since 2009, she didn't start off with B4 and then suddenly go up to C5 like you said. Her C5's just weren't as competent as they are right now.
Jessica's pitch issues are just as present as Seohyun's. She has more good moments above B4 than Seohyun and both of them are just as inconsistent as each other in the 5th octave. The thing is Jessica has a slightly more supported low range and Seohyun has a more connected head voice than Jessica. They are just as good as each other.

i love the fact you put Sunny on #4, because if Sunny was the main vocalist of snsd she gonna be the most perfect voice, but SM never give to her lines...
and this make her like a Bad Vocalist but she is a PERFECT vocalist who can help Taeyeon, Jessica, Seohyun and Tiffany on vocals, and do easily high notes, but SM NEVER give nothing for her, this mades me angry.
*Jessica is is just one of the best vocalists ever , and in my opinion she is the best . Her voice is soo unique that made snsd songs different from all other groups songs but when she get kicked out all of that gone , her voice made snsd songs way more interesting and make you want to listen to the song again and agian ,her soft voice blends well with all snsd members and even with loud/string voice her angelic voice will always shine no matter how the voice color she is singing with , she is 100% the best when it comes to high notes she can just go up soo easily and that's why SM always gives her the hardest parts that no other member can do her voice is natural high pitch she is in the best in lower register too along with tiffany and she is in the top 3 in mixed voice and head voice too like she can do everything and she is good at everything. some sons keep saying that seohyun already surpassed her but actually not , yes jessica didn't improve too much since she is more interested in fashion but every time she keeps proving to everyone that she didn't lose her voice and she deserves that snsd main vocalist first with " dangerous woman cover" and last with "let it go cover" she even made the key higher than the original one in let it go . I just hope that she will show more her vocals in her upcoming album this year*

In term of technique and stability, I agree with your ranking completely because the top 3 is so obvious, Sunny & Tiffany are interchangeable, then Soo, Hyo&Yuri are interchangeable, then Yoona.
However, in term of colour (depending on personal taste), I like Hyoyeon’s. Sunny’s sometimes is very interesting.
Finally, someone appreciates Sooyoung's singing ability.

As all sone expected, the list is always like this since the old days this shows their consistency and their vocal strengths ranges from decent to great vocalists. Im proud. And also 9-6 is our dance line and 5-1 is our vocal line.
I love Tiffany, in my opinion she has a r&b kinda voice, she is usually a bit off in her live videos like she has a difficult time to breath. I am not an expert in music but I think Tiffany needs to focus what is more suitable to her according to her voice. The thing that I love the most about Tiffany is that she is not afraid to experiment with different kinds of genre and always brings positivity to us, her fans.
