I’m glad that you didn’t completely put off Yeri. THE GIRL HAS POTENTIAL AND ISN’T JUST THERE AS THE MAKNAE! The girl might not be the best singer but she’s not awful. Unfortunately, she’s in the same group as Wendy and Seulgi (Joy too 🙃)
@@yeosangie1273 Well said. She definitely has so much room for improvement and I do like her vocal color but to be in a group amongst impressive vocalists like Wendy and Seulgi (Joy too somehow! :))) her talent is perhaps, unnoticed (but not to herself, a lot of people still recognize her good singing abilities)
It's *really* easy to get overshadowed when you have two such powerhouses like Wannie and No-Jam in the group. Yeri's biggest problem is just that she needs to learn how to project her voice better. Yeri's not a sub-standard vocalist by any stretch of the imagination.
wow yeah thats such a nice way to describe it!! joys voice really is so fun, she always sounds so playful and lovely. thanks, i couldn't exactly put my finger on it before reading this 😊
Maybe it would be interesting to put every group you rank into a tier ranking at the end of every video so we can see which singers are on which level overall. Like, Chen at God tier and so on. It would be awesome and you love ranking things anyway!
I personally think Wendy has the healthiest technique among them, She never sound struggling or cracking. And she know exactly what she do with her voice... My bias 💕
@@МарияПетрова-ъ6н *before debut. and that was when she pushed herself so hard so she could debut :) she always had a healthy technique but because she wanted to debut so bad, she ended up hurting her cords, after that, she went back to her healthy technique like how she was before she started training but not to her full potential because of what happened. After all that, she’s still the best vocalist in the group as acknowledged by the other members.
Wendy is an all rounder. She is also a belter, Her belt in La Rouge is perfect, Hit that Drum, Zimzalabim, Happiness, Oh Boy, and also a fantastic vocalist who can utilize an almost whistle range vocal with Ladies Night, RBB and they even did Vocal Challenge before and she went up as high 7s i think. She also show Operatic potential with her Dumb Dumb opera
You spitting nothing but facts about Wendy. I can't stop listening to Ladies Night. I've listened to it at least 100 times this week and it is only Wednesday 🤣🤣🤣🤣 She sounds so good on that song. I have played RBB a million times. Not just for her vocals, but her dancing as well. I love how she dances so much on that song! Wendy's head voice is some of the best I've heard in my 5 decades on Earth. She also sounds amazing singing in her lower register. Just listen to her vocal prowess on Look. She was clowning with the vocals on that song! La Rouge concert she was belting effortlessly. She did the same on King of the Masked Singer as well. I miss hearing her vocals. I miss her so much!
@@eyebrowstj I hope I don’t sound weird but sometimes when she sing. I imagining myself sing but in all actuality. I couldn't do half of the notes Wendy does.
The great thing about Red Velvet is that all of the girls have very distinctive vocal qualities, which I firmly believe was intentional on SM's part. They picked 5 girls that all have very disparate tones. When they sing together they sound like a much larger group.
wendy had vocal nodules before debut and affected her singing a lot that is why she needs to use her head voice more often than her chest voice in belting high notes because she might get complications in the long run. she had undergone training of vocals using her head voice more often because of her vocal nodules thats why she is very good in using it
Red velvet’s ranking is quite predictable but your analysis is always so insightful! Thanks for this video. A gidle and ikon ranking would be great if you get the time, these groups’ rankings are a little more debatable and there are many live (actual live) vocals you can consider.
The good thing also about Red Velvet’s vocals is they compliment each other’s shortcomings. Yeri,Seulgi and Irene is good when it comes to solidifying low to mid range especially Seulgi as her voice is richer. Joy and Seulgi are the ones who provides distinct prominent vocal colour (They have distinct vocal color but whenever they harmonize, Joy and Seulgi’s vocal tones are prominent especially Joy’s which provides a like saccharine flavor, Lastly Wendy is overall. Like she does low, mid, high. adlibs like there is no argue why she’s the number one. She does runs and riffs like no ones business, she does rich low notes, she evokei impeccable emotion, and even changes her vocal texture depending on the genre. she’s not those typical one note vocalist (like an idol from other fandom which they insist as the top vocalist just because of high note)
"like an idol from other fandom which they insist is the top vocalist just because of high note" lmao i think we all know who he/she is talking about 😂😂
Please do include Jonghyun! Even though he's no longer with us physically, he's still part of Shinee. And Jonghyun's voice is what made Shinee what they are. On that note, here's a fan fact about Wendy: on a Korean variety show, Wendy's former coach taught her to use headvoice more because she had vocal cord nodules when she debuted with Happiness. (For those wondering is Sister Slam Dunk season 2) Anyways, thank you for the hard work you put into these videos. They're entertaining to watch and it's fun to learn new things. ^__^
Red Velvet are definitely one of my favourite Kpop groups! Wendy is insane and her voice is one of my favourites. (She also has a four octave vocal range which is pretty damn wide). Also with Shinee, Jonghyun is a member for eternity not a former member so I’d suggest adding him and he is the main vocalist so he should definitely be in there since he’s on the same level as Chen and Wendy vocally.
@@merihaz Usually is, but it is always an exception. Example: Dimash Kudaibergen is male vocalist who has at least 6 octave range. His technique is better than most of professional singer male or female, from Bel Canto / classic, pop, rock, r and b style.
parrotseo really they’re around equal with chen maybe being slightly better (Wendy is my ult female bias so this is being objective). I would say Wendy is a better vocalist than Baekhyun and Kyungsoo though.
Wendy is such a talented vocalist. she supports F♯3-D5-B♭5 consistently and has great agility, output, musicianship, versatility, and consistency. pretty incredible how she altered her naturally chesty mix and made it more heady so she’d be able to belt higher and easier. the best in the 3rd generation 🤍
Totally agree with your take on Wendy not being the better belter than Solar. Red Velvet's songs lean towards variation while Mamamoo's tracks display vocal power aspects, hence Wendy doesn't have a lot of chances showcasing her belting potential. With that being said, Wendy is by far the most versatile in the 3rd gen (one of the most in K-Pop in general) and what set her apart from other vocalists are the knowledge and understanding she posses on her vocal abilities, which allow her to fit her voice in any given genre. For starters, I would recommend checking out Butterflies, La Rouge, Ladies Night, Bing Bing, Hit That Drum,.. so you guys can get a grip of her versatility (guess people don't call her voice chameleon for nothing). As one has said, Red Velvet with Wendy is a team and a half, while Red Velvet without Wendy is a team halved. No discredit to other members but it is only appropriate to regard Wendy as backbone and foundation of Red Velvet's discography. Anyway, sorry for rambling :) Really enjoy your video, please keep up the great work.
velvetcatcher I genuinely enjoy Wendy’s adlibs to her belts tbh since I have a thing for head voice and Wendy’s head voice in vocal runs is just out of this world. But not gonna lie, her belts in Zimzalabim and KOMS were satisfying.
I actually think Joy isn't that far behind Seulgi with how she's improving right now. She can't sustain high belts and struggles to hit low notes but she can hit them and she can start there to improve but her whole 4th octave range is really good even her A4-B4 belts are powerful and stable plus her transitions are really smooth too. With Yeri thou I think she has the same issue with I.N. from Stray Kids which is their placement. Funny how they have so much potential but the only thing holding them back is wrong placement which just proves how important the basics are. Wendy is just insane. All of her registers are good and developed. Runs? Amazing. Belts? Astounding. Low notes? Incredible. Breath support? No problems. Her Head Voice? Immaculate. She has one of the best Head Voice in Kpop, it doesn't even need an explanation.
I agree with this comment. Joy's vocals have powered up. She's become more stable and her vocal color and vibrato are some of the best in kpop. I am often doing double takes when listening to her and I usually do that for Wendy and Seulgi, but for the past year or so Joy has stepped up her vocal game. I also mentioned recently that she is not that far off from Seulgi's level these days. Wendy has always been in a class of her own with her vocals. Even her weakest trait is stronger than the majority. I absolutely gush and get so geeked over her vocals. Even her vocal color has improved as she can sound like 3 different people at any given time on a track. Listen to her on In & Out! Her vocals are mindblowing! I also love how Wendy switches range and registers when she sings. Her Everybody Hurts cover showcases this. She also exudes emotions on different levels. She can do it all from fun and perky to sexy and alluring to seductive to straight up soulful! Props to Irene and Yeri for their improvements as well. These two are so good at layering their vocals with the vocal line. Red Velvet are one of my favorites and their vocals are top notch! #WelcomeBackWendy
Eyebrowstj - Multifandom4Life Wendy did said before that she has like Seven Different Voices and is struggling to control them before but she is able to tame them and used one of them if necessary. Definitely a vocal beast. This interview was from one of their Magazine Photoshoots. Dont know exactly what the name is and its legit
@@aex2309 I know of the interview and recall Wendy saying that. She has also mentioned her 4 octave range and that she can dabble in 2 more octaves. I really love her vocals. She is so good!
nobody asked me but yeah😳 1.Wendy *2.Seulgi* fav vocalist 3.Joy 4.Irene 5.Yeri Yeri:bright tone, good projection but just has a bad placement the higher she goes. And also tends to place her voice in her nasal cavity! Irene:very developed lower registers, good projection for lower register, kind of a balanced mix and a more forward placement(she also has a great tone) her biggest weakness like you said she places her voice directly in her nose and that makes it sharp and makes the tonal quality very whiny Joy:very unique and a likable tone. She has a very light and bright voice, way too heady mix and because of her improper way of mixing she can’t sustain the notes fully. Seulgi:developed in most registers, great lower register(most developed)and can keep her tone down to C3. She has a great mid range and shows a decent support, when she goes higher she places her voice in her nose and her mix gets lighter and her tone becomes more whiny. She isn’t as balanced(like miss number 1) Wendy:developed in *ALL* registers, great agility, great use of vocal transitions, shows amazing support in every register that can be supported(whistles can’t be supported so that’s why i said can be supported)very full and RNB type of voice,a very versatile singer and can change her tone depending on which genre. Wendy’s biggest problem is probably that she doesn’t lift her soft palate as much and doesn’t open her throat as much so that doesn’t make her notes as resonance. Before Wendy used a more chestier mix but she started to lighten her mix to make her support more bright and for the rest i def agree like always bahaah bye
Yes she used more of her chest mix more when she was younger, and I'm assuming that's probably the reason for her nodules. And bc of her nodules, she mostly leaned into a more head dominant mix, tho she can, when she have to, make it more chest dominant, which is actually amazing. Coz it shows how much control she has on her voice
@@ohraiaj Facts. When Wendy uses her chest voice I get chills. Hell. Who am I kidding? I get chills whenever she opens her mouth to sing 🤣🤣🤣 #WelcomeBackWendy
For SHINee you should definitely include Jonghyun he was seriously mind blowing. Check out SM the Ballads Hot Times, one of the best K-POP ballads in my opinion.
I think Yeri's lower register is more developed that's why her voice blends in well when she's singing lower notes in most of their songs. Also in Wendy's case, she changed her technique in belting after she had vocal nodules before she debuted. That's why she's singing in a lighter tone. She can reach 4 octaves btw which is rare.
I'd like to see a Blackpink ranking. I know, they're not a *legendary* vocal group, they're more of a rap-based group, but I watched a few videos and they all ranked the differently and didn't give reasons, so it would be really interesting to see!
Jenlisa Is real I’m no expert but from research and what some vocal coaches have said, Rosé is technically the best in the group despite her inconsistencies and forced nasality. Jisoo would been first if she didn’t sing with a closed throat. Vocal ranking with blackpink’s messy considering how none of the girls have really been able to nor taught how to sing properly. So far none of them really have a healthy technique aside from Lisa who’s the only one to not be heard damaging her voice in any way
Don't you think including WayV is kinda unfair bcs they still don't have that much material yet and there's not much live stages for an analysis (especially for Hendery and Yangyang, Xiaojun at least joined a survival show with performances).
Haha the ranking is obvious since their debut days but yeah we all wanted to hear the explanation and how he is going to praise Wendy s legendary s voice
@@marammbj2946 Yup! Wendy's vocals are no joke! I am always curious about who will rank higher between Yeri and Irene on someone's list and whether or not people notice how much Joy has improved because sis has been popping off lately! Wendy and Seulgi are always vocal beasts, so no surprise on their ranking, but Irene, Joy, and Yeri also add to Red Velvet's beautiful concoction of vocals! SM vocals always impresses me!
@Mohd Nazirul Mohd Norisham Wider range is less importance than technique. But ordinary people often look at voice tone/timbre, voice range, and visual, because they do not understand vocal technique.
I’ve been commenting too much lol but you should check out Wendy covering Halo by Beyoncé in high school, and her covering it again at the end of last year. I find it super interesting comparing both covers.
please include jonghyun, i can’t imagine a vocal ranking without him, he’ll always be shinee’s main vocalist and a member of shinee! great video i really enjoyed it :)
Aaaahhhh finally I love red velvet and love you finally did this, with Seulgi I wish they will use her voice in a more dynamic way, mostly on her lower range because she is really good at it, with Wendy the only think I will say I want ver voice Hahahahahhahahaha, kidding she is just so great, her voice color love it and as you say I love how she knows her voice and how she knows how to used, thanks for the video, wish You would do NCT DREAM and (G)i-dle. Talking about Shinee You must do Jognhyun ♥️♥️♥️
This is the first time I've been able to predict one of your rankings correctly. Also I really need to look into Seulgi's live performances, her voice didn't stand out to me before, but hearing her now I think she's got my favorite vocals in rv.
Seulgi would be a main vocalist if she were in any other group, but Wendy.... She’s amazing. When I heard her for the first time, I fell out of my chair. That’s how blown away I was. I’m not even a huge fan of red velvet, but I think Wendy is one of the best if not the best vocalist in Kpop.
I had an idea recently; maybe you could put all the singers you've analyzed into one tier list or one long ranking as you go. I think it would be interesting to see how all the members of different groups compare.
Wendy is on another level, her voice brings life to their songs and Joy brings color. Yeri, Irene and Seulgi are pretty good too. Seulgi used to be amazing but idk
@키미 For me it is not so obvious. Many times the rankings that are made on TH-cam are really biased. To be honest I don't find Jisoo to be the best vocalist on Blackpink and I don't think Lisa and Jennie can switch positions either. But then again, I may be being biased. I would like to hear his opinion because He knows what he is talking about.
water cow I know , I know a lot about vocal techniques, I just said that because it’s true , rosé is the only one I’ve heard support. Jisoo might be the best at stability but she doesn’t support. Rosé also has the most potential to improve
I agree with most of these but : 1. Wendy has the most developed lower register out of all the members; 2. Wendy is much more a better belter than Solar.
Yeah Wendy's low notes are great, I kinda forgot to mention it while I was filming. And I agree and disagree. Wendy has WAY more control. Solar has way more power. I'd say solar is a better belter. Wendy is a better overall singer. But of course that's just my opinion.
@@josuapangaribuan8981 Not as such. A good combination of the two. I guess it depends. If I was giving them both a song where it required a large powerful delivery, I would trust Solar's voice to handle it much more. Wendy's voice is so much better when mixing light and using softer tones. She can belt and her technique is good. But she doesn't sound comfortable going big as often. So while her technique is around better and healthy. Solar's voice is more purpose built to sing heavier bigger bridges and chorus then wendy's is. So for me Solar's voice has an easier time "belting" if we're talking a big robust heavy powerful sound. Whereas Wendy's voice has an easier time doing literally everything else
Samuel Bradley I think so too Solar is the better *POWER* belter and Wendy is the better more controlled and her belts seem healthier if you know what I mean. Wendy is undoubtably the best main vocal of her gen and Solar is almost there too
Samuel Bradley I think you’re missing the point. Wendy is better technically. Meaning she gets to do more stuff with her voice, including choosing her own timbre, volume, and quality. She can literally belt a better and more POWERFUL D5 than Solar, and even transition a belt into a head voice in one long phrase, and that indicates that she has a good sense of support which lets her choose her volume output. If you want more of a robust sound, she also can deliver it better and healthier than Solar (Check out her Love You I Do by Jennifer Hudson cover). “Solar’s voice is built to sing heavier bigger bridges and chorus than Wendy’s is”. It might seem that way because Solar doesn’t have access to a light mix because she’s not there yet technically. This is just like saying Christina is a better power belter than Mariah because she has a robust and more powerful output. Again, volume output doesnt equate powerful. Another great example is Sohyang. She has one of the most light, delicate, and pristine tone ever, even lighter than Wendy’s, now would you say Solar’s is more powerful than Sohyang?
If I remember correctly, Wendy developed a vocal nodule right before her debut so she had to practice using her head voice more to reach the higher notes. Don't know if that's still a thing or if it's just a habit now but that's why she tends to use her head voice more. I'm not a professional though so I might be wrong...
wendy’s a really smart singer. she chooses her technique according to the lowest risk (using/mixing head voice rather than pushing up too much) she can have in singing, avoiding possibly straining and hurting herself, making her technique more sustainable. tho i think what i like the most about her is that her sense of pitch is amazing!! i rarely hear her go off pitch and she knows how to match her other members well too.
Wendy should use more dynamic (crescendo, decrescendo, whisper sound, powerful sound). She definitely more potential than Taeyeon. She must make solo album.
You should consider doing a separate series for solo singers. Not really rank vocals because it would be 1 person but more of a vocal analysis in that one person. You should do solo singers that are in groups tho
Seriously, Joy's voice is what started me loving Red Velvet. I know Wendy's voice is superb and Seulgi's sublime but when I heard, "Dream Me", I cried. The emotion she is able to convey is heart stopping. I could not understand Korean but found myself crying. If she was trained more with her breathing and control she would be an amazing talent. I already love to listen to her just for the unique tone she has. Haven't heard a tone like that anywhere.
Now she's just recently released a solo album here vocal is improved.. I listen to her songs in her album now I realized she's has the prettiest voice in kpop..
Yes this is pretty predictable, but I love how insightful you are in analyzing these girls especially Yeri and Irene. I'm totally inlove with Seulgi's voice, but we all can't deny the fact that Wendy is actually, one of the best, if not the best, vocalist of all time in kpop. Anyways, I would love to hear how will you review and analyze Jonghyun, so I'm hopeful that you'll include him. Let's not stop appreciating his wonderful talent even if he's not physically here anymore.
I loved your vocal analysis on Wendy but just wanted to say that her predebut covers she relied more on her chest & suffered from vocal chord nodules so that's why she is focusing more on her head voice
The Yeri analysis is perfect to me. The clips you used she sounds great to me. Definitely showing her improvment as most are newer clips. But then at other times she's really off in many ways. Your analysis about it being "stuck" describes it perfectly. Like something just isnt breaking through and then she fizzles out. I would say she's among the weakest female vocalists rn simply bc no one is a bad singer these days, the weakest ones can still sing nicely. I do feel Yeri is close to moving up soon though
joy is a nice singer but as a vocalist idk, this is more of a preference thing but she's definitely too nasally for me and her placement is like.. weird? also she's very inconsistent, sometimes she sounds good doing her umpah umpah high note and other times she strains like crazy? but she has plenty of potential and she definitely has a unique nice color so i hope sm train her more to extend her upper register
I think her inconsistency is due to her lack of confidence. She is a perfectionist and if you notice when she sings alone she is always really scared of getting it wrong, she always looks really concentrated and really well... scared. I'm pretty sure this affects her singing
I think there are many songs that she doesn't sound nasal at all. Three examples: Always In My Heart, Dream Me, Maldo Andwae. Imo, Seulgi has this nasal issue too.
Wendy Seulgi and Joy are mostly the ones who sings the most on Red Velvet's music but it isn't complete when there are no Irene and Yeri their voices just compliments the lead vocals, irene and yeri's lower register is really to die for especially with harmonizing.
Everyone knew Wendy would be first, it's hard not to but Red Velvet really has so many interesting voices in it. Love your ranking as always!! I would love if you would rank soloists sometimes, that would be fun!
hahaha already knew wendy would be #1 and red velvet’s vocals are some of my favorite,,, i think a video about loona would be really interesting!! they have 12 members and every member has a solo, and i also think this would be really interesting because loona has chuu which is AMAZING (check out her high note in hi high) and also haseul, who studied opera!! :)
i really like your in depth analysis especially on what makes wendy such a great vocalist - idk if anyone commented i hope you someday do lovelyz (literally a group of main vocals) and also sf9, would love to hear you analyze their voices
If you're looking for suggestions : Bigger Groups : Gugudan (gg), Up10tion (bg) Medium Groups : Gfriend (gg), Vixx (bg) Smaller Groups : Exid (gg), Nu'est (bg) Grateful for the great content!
I'd love to see you ranking Gfriend because they're so good, they used to have 3 vocals that handled the most of their songs, but nowadays all of them sing a lot in their songs.
I mean how is seulgi lower register better than wendy's when wendy can take her breath support and tonality down to F#3 whereas seulgi can be airy in G3 and drops breath support in F#3 i---------- The rest of the video is good thought.
I watched a few of your ranking videos last night and thought, “has he done Red Velvet?” So, this is right on time 😊. The order in which they ranked was expected, but it’s still nice hearing all the details. Wendy is my favorite female vocalist in all of K-Pop. She really delivers! As for your next ranking, I would like to see Jonghyun included. I still get emotional when it comes to him (he was my bias in SHINee and one of my favorite humans in general), but it’ll be fine. Looking forward to it!
They are my favorite girl group. Thank you for answering our requests. You are my favorite vocal analyzer right now since I feel like you explain it in a way that I could still understand lol. For a request Nct Dream or NCT as a whole would be good.
You should check out Yeri’s song Tuesday is Better than Monday, the live performance of With You on V Live and her instagram live with Wendy as I think she shows a higher register there and shows that she has a wider range than Irene putting her higher but idk, oh also the covers Yeri has on her instagram are really good too I think
Irene definitely has the wider range but yes I agree, Yeri is a really good vocalist. If only SM could give them lines that suited their vocal color well. All of Red Velvet members have really good lower register. Just like on Close to me (their collab with Ellie Goulding that SM failed to promote as always). Seulgi and Wendy's low notes were amazing and the other members could do it as well. Red Velvet definitely is a vocal group but their rap line is also really good. If they couldn't give Irene and Yeri good singing lines then they should at least give them raps like Campfire, Dumb Dumb or ICC. It's just that SM isn't showing Red Velvet's full potential yet. Irene's collab with Raiden was really good but SM also failed to promote that one as well. Also they shouldn't force Seulgi to do high notes. Her low notes are just really amazing.
@@psychoandchill4328 irene doesn't like rapping so i don't think so.... i think they should just encourage irene to sing more cause she has a lot a potential
The good thing about Red Velvet is aside from the obvious fact that they are already good to excellent vocalist, they also keep on improving. One thing to note Yeri did a Crush “Nappa” and Crash Landing On You OST cover and she did improve once again since the latter part is a big ballad and she was able to sing. Irene’s good vocal highlight was on Rookie Pajama Version and Time to Love
I would recommand AOA since the positions are a little bit off (they lost many members). Also Loona is a group that doesn't have official positions at all so it owuld be interesting. Good video I love ur channel!
finally someone QUALIFIED for doing a vocal ranking!! sorry but i hate all these videos of absolute random people posting vocal rankings solely based on their biases! my bias is yeri but i entirely agree with all you said, and i really like how you used videos of them in which they were clearly singing live. tons of these videos just slap in some random MR removed video which is most likely lip sync (or taken whilst dancing, which doesn't make sense to judge off of) so i appreciate that a lot. definitely subbing
I just finished the video, and I think it would be really cool if you do include Jonghyun. On a separate note, I'm pretty sure Wendy doesn't go into that super high, heavy belt more often is because she overworked her voice and developed vocal nodules before debut; she's probably just being more careful now.
Yeri: “It’s kind of got a few limitations, I think technically she could iron out. Her voice is still pretty good and there’s a lot she could do that lot to it.” Irene: “So in classic SM style the main rapper can also sing or a shot. Irene’s voice is half really good half could be worked on.” Joy: “Joy’s voice is the least (among top 3) sort of perfect and it has kind of the most it could work on. Her voice is really unique and really interesting.” Seulgi: “So Seulgi’s voice is less balanced than number one but she has a kind of bigger instrument and she kinda has a really interesting tone that isn’t really used necessary the way that she could be using most efficiently.” Wendy: “There is a reason she’s at number one, she’s a very very good singer, I’d love to delve into a voice and what makes it particularly interesting.”
i’d love to hear your thoughts on onewe. they’re a band so 2 of them don’t really sing a lot but id like to hear your thoughts on yonghoon because i personally love his voice a lot!! nflying too because hweseung is amazing and i think bands just deserve more recognition in general!
this was sooooo interesting to hear. particularly what you said about seulgi and wendy, as someone who prefers seulgi's voice it was just interesting to hear such an objective opinion from someone who knows what they're talking about. i'd love if you did a video like this about dreamcatcher!
Ofc Wendy is #1, her technique and vocals are outstanding but I gotta say I prefer Seulgi voice more, there's something about her presentations so delightful to watch and hear, her voice is so rich and have many textures so it adapts to a wide genres
I enjoyed this video very much, thank you! About your new video, SHINee is five which was brought up many times by SHINee themselves. Jonghyun will always be part of the group. We don't want him to be forgotten.
Yay!!! I’m a big red velvet fan and becoming a big fan of your videos. The way you describe their voices is like you took the words out of my mouth before I could even fully form them while also teaching me tons (bc I’m not a singer and just know what my ears like). I would love for you to do all the sm groups, NCT Dream next would be amazing then WayV and Girl’s Generation! 🙏🏾 keep it up
AAAA, you did it !! your vocal analysis videos are so detailed and probably the more accurate kind rather than those "she's-unstable-so-she-can't-have-good-technique" videos all over the internet. also, just to add that irene recorded a D7 once in RBB. a video suggestion could be the top 10 kpop female vocalists in your opinion or a ranking of main vocalists we give you - something like that, although i know that you get a ton of requests so i just wanna put it out there that we appreciate your effort and dedication into making these! keep on making these type of videos :)
Please do include jonghyun in your shinee video! He’s my favorite vocalist/singer/artist ever 😭 his voice was just so good and unique and you could feel how much he loved music whenever he sang, he had artist written all over him. Also I’d love to see you do this for gfriend one day 😭 mamamoo, red velvet and gfriend are known as the top 3 vocal groups of the 3rd generation :)
Thank you for analysing rv's vocal! I kinda agreed when you said that their ranking are obvious but you still dive onto each of their strength and flaws anyway.
I'd like a Red Velvet title track that kind of shows off more of their talents, like more of Yeri's vocals (I really love her low notes), centre dance focus for Irene, rapper Wendy, a low, dark, sultry part for Seulgi, and killing parts for Joy to showcase her unique tone.
I fully agree with you placements of the girls. It’s also really nice to see a technical ranking instead of having bias. And thank you for keeping thing positive with your explanation.
I'd love a vocal ranking on Dreamcatcher, their vocals are really good to be honest and I'd like to hear an analysis from you about their vocals, definitely check out two members' (Gahyeon and Yoohyeon) cover of "I" by Taeyeon of SNSD, one member's (Siyeon) rock version of EXO's 'Overdose' their "Just Give Me A Reason" cover.. and so much more 😂💕 we're waiting! stay safe 👌
I know a snsd’s ranking has been done many time and we all know Taeyeon is #1 but I’m curious on how you would rank the others because I’ve seen people flip flop their positions so many times and I don’t trust SM’s own vocal rank anyways... but thank you regardless for your videos and your hardwork!!!
I think even with Jonghyun in, your ranking for the others would be basically the same as I'm anticipating him being at number one hahaha. But absolutely, Jonghyun is a part of SHINee forever so he needs to be included, even if he's no longer with us.
Let’s be honest, we all came to this video knowing Wendy would be first

I’m glad that you didn’t completely put off Yeri. THE GIRL HAS POTENTIAL AND ISN’T JUST THERE AS THE MAKNAE! The girl might not be the best singer but she’s not awful. Unfortunately, she’s in the same group as Wendy and Seulgi (Joy too 🙃)
*Fortunately
@@yeosangie1273 Well said. She definitely has so much room for improvement and I do like her vocal color but to be in a group amongst impressive vocalists like Wendy and Seulgi (Joy too somehow! :))) her talent is perhaps, unnoticed (but not to herself, a lot of people still recognize her good singing abilities)
It's *really* easy to get overshadowed when you have two such powerhouses like Wannie and No-Jam in the group. Yeri's biggest problem is just that she needs to learn how to project her voice better.
Yeri's not a sub-standard vocalist by any stretch of the imagination.
her voice is like the flavor that is missing in a dish without it it wouldn’t be really good
don’t get me wrong, i really love wendy, her voice is my fave but without yeri’s voice, their songs will be incomplete
I just really love joys tone. Not only is it unique but also just sounds really fun. Her voice is what caught my attention after Wendy’s.
Mine too! She can portray emotion so well.

I personally think Wendy has the healthiest technique among them, She never sound struggling or cracking. And she know exactly what she do with her voice... My bias 💕
Actually, she got some trouble with cords because she pushed herself too much just after the debute
@@МарияПетрова-ъ6н that is before debut, during her trainee years if im not mistaken. Some probs abt her voice nodules (idk how to spell it lol)
I've listened to it at least 100 times this week and it is only Wednesday 🤣🤣🤣🤣
She sounds so good on that song.

The great thing about Red Velvet is that all of the girls have very distinctive vocal qualities, which I firmly believe was intentional on SM's part.
They picked 5 girls that all have very disparate tones. When they sing together they sound like a much larger group.
Imagine if Joy trained more. There's a lot of things she can improve. I know she can do more
She’s training now. She said in her latest interview.
Her voice has improved so much over the years and I hope she continues to improve! Her voice is so beautiful and ethereal!
Joy definitely improved. After her solo debut I now rank her after wendy... But joy tone I love the most.
objectively she’s still the 3rd best vocalist but her tone is pretty
wendy had vocal nodules before debut and affected her singing a lot that is why she needs to use her head voice more often than her chest voice in belting high notes because she might get complications in the long run. she had undergone training of vocals using her head voice more often because of her vocal nodules thats why she is very good in using it
Red velvet’s ranking is quite predictable but your analysis is always so insightful! Thanks for this video. A gidle and ikon ranking would be great if you get the time, these groups’ rankings are a little more debatable and there are many live (actual live) vocals you can consider.
(g)-idle definitely.

As much as I agree, what does Shinee have to do with a Red Velvet video again....?
Red Velvet are definitely one of my favourite Kpop groups! Wendy is insane and her voice is one of my favourites. (She also has a four octave vocal range which is pretty damn wide). Also with Shinee, Jonghyun is a member for eternity not a former member so I’d suggest adding him and he is the main vocalist so he should definitely be in there since he’s on the same level as Chen and Wendy vocally.
@parrotseo I think they're Both equal
@parrotseo I don't think you should compare male and female vocalists in the first place, because their capabilities are different by nature.
@parrotseo you're welcome 😊😊😊
💙

1.Wendy
*2.Seulgi* fav vocalist
3.Joy
4.Irene
5.Yeri
Yeri:bright tone, good projection but just has a bad placement the higher she goes. And also tends to place her voice in her nasal cavity!
Irene:very developed lower registers, good projection for lower register, kind of a balanced mix and a more forward placement(she also has a great tone) her biggest weakness like you said she places her voice directly in her nose and that makes it sharp and makes the tonal quality very whiny
Joy:very unique and a likable tone.
She isn’t as balanced(like miss number 1)
Wendy:developed in *ALL* registers, great agility, great use of vocal transitions, shows amazing support in every register that can be supported(whistles can’t be supported so that’s why i said can be supported)very full and RNB type of voice,a very versatile singer and can change her tone depending on which genre. Wendy’s biggest problem is probably that she doesn’t lift her soft palate as much and doesn’t open her throat as much so that doesn’t make her notes as resonance. Before Wendy used a more chestier mix but she started to lighten her mix to make her support more bright and for the rest i def agree like always bahaah
bye
zipozapii i am no one special but I completely stan this message!
I totally agree!

Jonghyun performing Y Si Fuera Ella (혜야) live is one of the best performances pretty much ever.
Whats scary about wendy is, her singing is getting better and better with time. She keeps practicing and practicing. 💙

Jenlisa Is real I’m no expert but from research and what some vocal coaches have said, Rosé is technically the best in the group despite her inconsistencies and forced nasality. So far none of them really have a healthy technique aside from Lisa who’s the only one to not be heard damaging her voice in any way

Samuel Bradley So do you think volume output determines more the better belter? Not control and technique?
Listen to their b-sides they are so versatile and Joy sings much darker in some of their songs like in& out
If I remember correctly, Wendy developed a vocal nodule right before her debut so she had to practice using her head voice more to reach the higher notes.
I'm think that Wendy had vocal nodules around the time of her debut or slightly before
Seriously, Joy's voice is what started me loving Red Velvet.

Wendy is such a powerhouse. Love her.

Can you also look at ACE in the future?
It's a five Member group with two rappers, that both can sing really well
joy is a nice singer but as a vocalist idk, this is more of a preference thing but she's definitely too nasally for me and her placement is like.. weird? also she's very inconsistent, sometimes she sounds good doing her umpah umpah high note and other times she strains like crazy? but she has plenty of potential and she definitely has a unique nice color so i hope sm train her more to extend her upper register
I think her inconsistency is due to her lack of confidence. She is a perfectionist and if you notice when she sings alone she is always really scared of getting it wrong, she always looks really concentrated and really well... scared. I'm pretty sure this affects her singing
the umpah² note isn't supported since it's a d5
gay cat an unsupported d5 isn't always terrible, seulgi's is unsupported but she sounds open to an extent but joy just... strains
I think there are many songs that she doesn't sound nasal at all. Three examples: Always In My Heart, Dream Me, Maldo Andwae. Imo, Seulgi has this nasal issue too.
Let's shush next time
Wendy Seulgi and Joy are mostly the ones who sings the most on Red Velvet's music but it isn't complete when there are no Irene and Yeri their voices just compliments the lead vocals, irene and yeri's lower register is really to die for especially with harmonizing.

They are my favorite girl group. Thank you for answering our requests. You are my favorite vocal analyzer right now since I feel like you explain it in a way that I could still understand lol.
For a request Nct Dream or NCT as a whole would be good.
Thank you very much. I'm certainly gonna consider NCT Dream!
I absolutely love Seulgi and Wendy's voices! Their vocal tones are so pretty
if 2nd Generation has Taeyeon, 3rd Generation has Wendy.
Wow I've watched the exact same clips you showed when Wendy in number 1 and told myself that she will be my quintessential bias in all 3rd gen.
I would recommand AOA since the positions are a little bit off (they lost many members).
Also Loona is a group that doesn't have official positions at all so it owuld be interesting.
Good video I love ur channel!
i think yeri’s voice is so sweet💓 red velvet is such a talented group!!💫✨
finally someone QUALIFIED for doing a vocal ranking!!
sorry but i hate all these videos of absolute random people posting vocal rankings solely based on their biases! my bias is yeri but i entirely agree with all you said, and i really like how you used videos of them in which they were clearly singing live. tons of these videos just slap in some random MR removed video which is most likely lip sync (or taken whilst dancing, which doesn't make sense to judge off of) so i appreciate that a lot. definitely subbing
Thank you very much. Very kind of you to say!!

Her voice is still pretty good and there’s a lot she could do that lot to it.”
Irene: “So in classic SM style the main rapper can also sing or a shot. Irene’s voice is half really good half could be worked on.”
Joy: “Joy’s voice is the least (among top 3) sort of perfect and it has kind of the most it could work on. Her voice is really unique and really interesting.”
Seulgi: “So Seulgi’s voice is less balanced than number one but she has a kind of bigger instrument and she kinda has a really interesting tone that isn’t really used necessary the way that she could be using most efficiently.”
Wendy: “There is a reason she’s at number one, she’s a very very good singer, I’d love to delve into a voice and what makes it particularly interesting.”
i’d love to hear your thoughts on onewe. they’re a band so 2 of them don’t really sing a lot but id like to hear your thoughts on yonghoon because i personally love his voice a lot!! nflying too because hweseung is amazing and i think bands just deserve more recognition in general!
this was sooooo interesting to hear. particularly what you said about seulgi and wendy, as someone who prefers seulgi's voice it was just interesting to hear such an objective opinion from someone who knows what they're talking about. i'd love if you did a video like this about dreamcatcher!
Ok that makes total sense!! Thank you very much for winning.
🙏🏾 keep it up
So RV is essentially two low belters, one flexible, and two high belters.
In that sense, the group is balanced.
Bit sad you didn’t include the clip of Wendy hitting the high note from Rent’s Seasons of Love 😆
Red velvet is back performing today guys! 😁
That's what I really love about Wendy's singing. She know exactly how her voice works and how to control and handle it.
I hope you would rank Girls Generation in the futur 🥰
i love the fact that you appreciated all of their voices like thank you us reveluvs love you
AAAA, you did it !! your vocal analysis videos are so detailed and probably the more accurate kind rather than those "she's-unstable-so-she-can't-have-good-technique" videos all over the internet. also, just to add that irene recorded a D7 once in RBB. a video suggestion could be the top 10 kpop female vocalists in your opinion or a ranking of main vocalists we give you - something like that, although i know that you get a ton of requests so i just wanna put it out there that we appreciate your effort and dedication into making these! keep on making these type of videos :)
Thank you very much. I appreciate that. And good idea. I'll have a think about things to do and I'll get back to you all!
Can you do a SNSD vocal ranking? Thank You. Stay safe💖
Oh yes! Yes pleaseeee do this pleaseeeee
I'm honestly debating if Jessica or Taeyeon will be first but I think it's gonna be Taeyeon since she's the Nation's Main Vocalist
Thank you for analysing rv's vocal! I kinda agreed when you said that their ranking are obvious but you still dive onto each of their strength and flaws anyway.
As expected , Wendy #1 ❤
But absolutely, Jonghyun is a part of SHINee forever so he needs to be included, even if he's no longer with us.
as ReVeluv myself, i was thrilled to watch this video! no bias, very objective, and you really know what you're saying :)
I personally love seulgi’s voice so much! Her voice is kind of low which I love 💗 btw I really enjoy your vids!!
Could you consider doing Super Junior too? They have some of the best vocal lines in kpop (I mean they are SM for a reason). I'd really appreciate it!
