- Hey guys, this is a long video that i worked on for a while. I hope you liked the video and will share this to all the people who still doubt aespa’s singing.

Ningning’s vibrato is extremely satisfying to me, her lows are healthy and her highs are pleasant enough to make me like her voice the most, it stands out although Karina has a pretty outstanding voice too. I’d definitely look out for these two especially
probably the healthiest and smooth vibrato i've ever heard from 4th gen vocalist

what i really admire about ningning is how incredibly free her very high “belts” sound. like a lot of vocalists just try to squeeze the note out of their throat but her E5s - G5s still sound so free which is crazy

toxicity aside, please i would like to ask for kpopvocalanalysis followers to not use the word "free" or invent another meaning for it like y"all do with every vocal term, once the cvt was already estabilished in youtube, y"all take the terms "free and grounded" from it and are now inventing new meanings for it, stop the misinformation, a free and grounded note is a supported note, so please stop using the word if is not correctly, it amazes me how fast this definition takes terms and invents new meanings for it.

Really hoping that both Giselle and Karina have the desire to improve. Giselle being main rapper, lead vocal material 👀 and Karina’s tone? If she pulled a Luna/Taemin that would be amazing.
i heard someone says that Luna technique in her debut days was something like just above average (with her support lying in somenthing to G3/C5) and she did improve to good (G3/Eb5), so i hope Ning Ning improve a lot too, so the rest of the group.
Karina definitely has the desire to imrpove her singing, as she has mentioned in her bubble. Not sure about Giselle because she loves rapping and she is most likely going to spent hr timing improving her rapping and dancing instead of singing.
@@ayeon5609 The thing with Karina is she has to focus on rapping, dancing and singing. She has to distribute her time to practice the three of them, it's not like Ningning who will focus on singing the most or giselle with rapping. so we'll see.
@@crispyro6978 It really depends to Karina tbh, Luna and Taemin are both focus on their respective fields which is singing and dancing but both of them also excel in dancing and singing.

My biggest problem with people talking about Aespa vocals is that they acting like we already seen everything the girls can do vocally when it not the case. Aespa is just a year old group and most of the members just enter their 20. I think they have so much room for improvement. The first example that come to my mind is Ariana Grande (i am not saying aespa vocal can compare to her btw), if you compare her voice when she first started and now, she almost seem like a different vocalist when all she did is improve her technique. Or another better example, Taeyeon from snsd. Her technique also got alot better compare to her debuts years. My point is, people should let aespa time to breathe and let them enjoy their debut years. If this was at least their second going to third year, i would understand the need to focus so much on their voices, but it not.
Thank you for bringing up Taeyeon! Taeyeon did start as an above average KPOP vocalist back then. She was good, but her technique wasn’t the best. One of clear example was Genie’s adlibs. When SNSD promoted it in 2009, she used to clear it in quite difficulties, we can see from her facial expression. I guess sometimes in 2013 ish, she might get new vocal teacher or something. During 2015, when they performed it again for Gayo, she killed it without issue. Now, even doing concert with her most challenging songs, high belts after high belts, she can just do it.
exactly. the expectation for any career is that you improve over the years regardless of how good you were when you started, it’s weird how people sometimes ignore or forget that with performers. there is no way you should reach your peak vocally at 20 years old unless you stop trying to improve
@@1redfury as long as aespa girls keep improving, they should not have any issue. To be honest, even as long term fan of Taeyeon, her improvement came as time goes by, I didn’t even realise it until someone pointed it out to me. I am looking forward to aespa surprising me like that.

Ariana is actually worse now as a vocalist. Her notes sounded more supported and resonant when she was younger (since she did theater then, I think.)
Her style now ruined her singing. Probably her voice soon enough. Too much jaw tension and airiness.

Ningning and Winter are the best main and lead vocalist duo of 4th gen. No one will argue with that. Giselle's vocals is superb for someone who's a main rapper of a group. Clearly, she can be a lead vocalist if she was in another group. Don't forget that she's the backbone of Aespa. She's got most part in hidden vocals. Same for Karina right there, our main dancer, who can pass as a main vocalist in other groups. I think she has the best vocal color in Aespa. Her voice is so distinctive and it adds flavor to Aespa's songs. AESPA QUEENS.
Actually I would argue with that. 12Dal's Nayul and Pink Fantasy's Yechan are definitely stronger vocalists than Ningning and Winter.
Edited to add Weeekly's Monday here as well. Her range, breath support, and technique is better than Ningning and Winter.

@@navisoori5391 in comparison to ningning who has only sang live like what, 5 times? Not that that is ningning's fault, but if we're talking about live vocals, Monday is the better overall vocalist. Her registers are more developed, she has better technique, and overall support is better than what ningning has shown thus far.

I really, but like, REALLLLLYYYYYY, want karina to improve so bad, gosh I just love her voice so much, I would absolutely love for her to get better. I know that singing was always what she really wanted to do so I hope she improves so that SM will give her even more singing lines.
Also , am I the only one who lives for ningning’s softer belts ? Like idk they just feel so nice and relaxing to the ear.
I think the problem is that Aespa already has a main and a lead vocalist so it's quite understandable that they want to push Karina and Giselle on the rap side. I think Karina loves to sing a lot but her official position is main dancer and lead rapper, so at least in Aespa I don't think she will have THAT opportunity to sing more. I also want to hear Giselle's potential but it's really difficult.
@@ParkAhrii But as you can see Aespa go back and forth exchanging the positions of the members..its actually very clear in their album..all of them get rap parts and singing parts..but they never really marketed as an allrounder group..but the fans can tell that they are!
@@yoitsphulla5686 They don't exchange anything, Ningning and Winter are in charge of singing and Karina and Giselle are in charge of rapping and it's been like that since debut.
It’s not that she’s not good enough to get singing lines but theh are four members so it’s natural to have two with the most vocal lines and two rapping ones. U csn notice that their songs r usually based on that too, two do the easy singing or rapping and other two vocals like prechoruses and bridges. Maybe in other songs she will be able to sing more if they only have raps for giselle.

My theory is SM will suddenly make aespa sing live to surprise audience just like they hide winter's vocal so hard before debut.. not revealing everything at the beginning is SM's classic strategy

Love the part that Winter was the dark horse of the team, she was unknown and when she showcased her talent she shined as she should be LETS GO LITTLE ROCKSTAR!
Fun Fact:
NingNing have the best low register in the entire 4th gen. Since she’s one of the two vocalist who can carry support down to G3 consistently and F#3 at best. Making her almost on par with Wendy and Taeyeon on lower register 🤧

In terms of ease, it's arguable but in support, both Wendy and Taeyeon are definitely better.
@@Sone_857 ningning has better G#3 and F#3 and ning seems have fuller sounds than tae but tae has some relaxed low notes as well which is good

People underestimated NingNing a lot and I mean it A LOT. I remember during BM era some people said that Winter should had been the main vocalist 💀 and some people even said the she is below Yuri. Like she just debuted give her time😟
Those are people who define "best" only by their preferences and ignore the technic wise. Ningning is significantly better than winter although the gap isn't as far as wendy and seulgi. I hope sm will give the girls chance to cover songs. It's been more than a year.
i remember seeing a lot of people say she didn’t live up to her seniors in black mamba era 💀 like why the heck are you comparing a ROOKIE to a freaking SENIOR??? of course wendy and taeyeon are going to be better than considering the fact that they debuted in 2014 and 2007, and you expect ningning to be as good as them when she literally just debuted 5 secs ago??? i have no doubt that ning will eventually be able to catch up with them (if there’s one thing sm vocalists are good at, it’s constant improvement), but come on, let the girl breathe. 😭😭😭

Aespa is like the combination of Taeyeon, Yuri, Luna and Wendy's vocal in one group. Imagine what future they have

@@meghan5992 Being an SM stan is too hard, but you're right. Yet, still they're too strong for having a strong line up for vocals. It's just that you can see little taeyeon and wendy taking their journey again. The feeling is so overwhelming.

I am a Wendy ult, and I think Taeyeon, Wendy AND Luna are all similarly on the best of vocalists tier of SM.
Not enough people acknowledge how good Luna is.
I feel kinda sad that on Ningning's part where it said she needs confidence, after all the backlash she received, Im afraid on how her confidence is. Her vocals having different like persons singing in each song and her low notes, I do hope she is (and everyone in general) feels better
My favorite voice tone in AESPA is definitively Karina's but Ningning's skills and approach bring heaven to me!
karina and giselle are very underrated. I find they have the nicest voice colors in the group and I love that they don't sound like sm at all. I'd like to see these two's unit, the combination of their voices is so harmonious and pleasant to the ear, I remember when they sang "aespa it's me, there can't be two" live and it was such a crazy good combination that I didn't know about. I also think they sound very good with English pronunciation, have a good accent and vocals with that natural sassy feeling on a more distinctive side. it's a pity that sm doesn't use it for their intl popularity. karina with a similar key to her "XI" covers by Code Kunst ft Lee Hi and giselle with her synk or next level key as rappers + their vocals...this duo would be so powerful if they made their debut under yg. they have neither solid rap parts nor solid vocal parts under sm imo. I'd like to see more of them.
Same, I love Giselle’s voice the most but yeah we all have different taste… we just need to support Aespa, and support even harder your bias… dragging other group or it’s members will not validate their greatness… I will support them period!

Ningning reminds me a lot to Ariana Grande, maybe cause both sing high a lot of time and they have free moments, but Ningning's accent make me fall in love, it's a special thing that she has and I love it. She is my bias of course🥰

i think since rosé in 2016, karina is the first vocalist i enjoy so much listening to. her tone is heavenly, she's by far my fav 4th vocalist alongside with ningning.

What I love about Ningning vocals are how CLEAR it sound. Either when she sing low notes, middle notes, or high notes you still can hear her development compared to the other girls which is quite insane considering the others are still very good vocalists too overall and also I think her pronountiation are also good too.
Tbh a little bit rant but I dislike when people comparing her with other main vocalists and told the other main vocalists are better, they only take into account of her issue with light mixing or nasality and totally ignored her development in low notes. Her lower notes arguably the best one in 4th gen and there still no other 4th gen girls that surpassing her low notes development.

I'm very much interested about Ningning voice. I think her voice is very feminine yet deep.
Her voice suitable for both dark/strong vibe songs and also sweet songs like "way", which she Collab with onew.
also, most female main vocalists from SM started at her level, an example is Luna, she was an above average vocalists, and look at her now, same with taeyeon
Taeyeon debuted already around high AA, there's already a difference. Luna perhaps AA or AA-P, Wendy as well around AA-P or even P. Ningning doesn't have that much materials yet but I can see her improving.
@@wushyringg Also Lina was A to AA when she first debuted in the duo in 2002, but then improved very quickly and consistently. Bada was also somewhat an A or A to AA when she debuted. So Ningning is, in the comparison of SM main vocals at debut, like an average rookie, and only time can tell what the future holds.
@@freyavu9116 I haven't followed much into their improvement but I recall Lina was kinda good already when she debuted, Bada was like AA-ish something before with C#5 but I could be wrong. Yeah, I can see Ningning might be AA-P in the future, who knows even higher.
@@wushyringg I am actually not sure about both but I heard about Lina’s from a The Grace stan (since that days) who is also vocally trained. Yes Ningning can be AA-P, can be better, can be worse, all depends on her attempts. But she does not have many issues tbh that promises a bright future vocally if she really tries her best.
@@freyavu9116 Yeah, for now her main issue for me is her light approach and that's really preventing her to move up to AA, considering her F#3s and C#5s were quite nice.
I think when aespa's sound like they're shouting and voice cracked all over the place, only then people will call it "live singing"
And the fact that all of them can support speaks a lot about their talent vocal-wise. Find a group where all members can support.
4 generation I would say nmixx. I dont know many groups in second gen
Ningning is a great vocalist for many reasons including the training she's had for it. It's not just that she's naturally capable but she has really been improving since she was very young. I like her voice it's not nasal or very high pitched which I notice a lot in K-pop, not that there is really anything wrong about that it's just not my cup of tea.
they improve every comeback, especially karina like the character growth and confidence that has just developed from black mamba era up to dreams come true is amazing ! true fans of ning always knew her range is not of this earth and shes deserving of her main vocal position , sm is still to show us what she can truly do and winter has always had great vocals though her highnote in dreams come true was unhealthy . giselle for a main rapper is decent and her tone is do aeri because shes aeri

i have a prediction which i think is going to come true for aespa's next comeback and that is live singing, they have already received a lot of backlash for not singing live and also aespa are not rookies anymore so sm is going to let them sing live. Maybe not a lot but still...i will take all the live vocal crumbs i can get tbh 😃

Agree. I personally want them to sing live at least with lower volume of backtrack (not in music shows though but festivals and award shows)
Well, they just sang live for the first time at Coachella. Hopefully, that means they'll constantly sing live from now on.

Here’s my take:
Ningning has the better technique and more powerful vocals + the vibrato is chef’s kiss 😘👌🏻 She also doesn’t seem to have any difficulty going from low to high register and vice-versa.
Winter has the most unique vocal tone and color (my favorite). Her voice is also very sweet. However, the songs that suit her the most are those like the ones she sang in Knowing Bros. Though, she’s really good with the growls as well (Yoo Young Jin style since she was trained by him).
Karina’s is more raspy and husky, which I really like - a vocal tone that majority are attracted to since her voice is naturally deeper than most as well. She’s also one who can manipulate her voice to sound different when she raps versus when she’s singing.
Giselle has some singing/ harmonizing background since she was part of a choir back then. She and Karina are really good with adlibs, but Giselle is especially so. Though I think for her, she definitely has the rapper tone and vibe.
In short, these 4 are really good. WinNing are the best vocalists in the 4th gen for sure.
Ningning also seems to have the better grasp of agility
Winter's vocals made me her fan and eventually a My. I like her vocal tone sooooo much, and I find her pronunciation satisfying to hear as well. Their voices are really good even when they're just playing around in radios. Especially when they harmonize, Giselle and Karina's lower voices and Ning and Winter's high voices sounds so good together.

NingNing SYNK teaser doesn’t really give her justice to her tone. At first went I watched it her tone wasn’t really my favorite but after Black Mamba until DCT her tone is one of my favorite now
More people should see this video. But yeah obviously everyone focues on the "go aesa give us nothing but lipsync" videos. It's so much easier to hate than to recognise talent
aespa is very talented and all of them are vocally capable. but that doesn't mean they aren't singing live. The reason why people are complaining about them is because they aren't singing live and not because they questioned their vocal capabilities. it's the broadcast show and sm fault honestly
I think people need to realize that singing live while dancing has more to do with stamina than vocal techniques or talent. Someone that can sing live stably while dancing can still be a less proficient vocalist than someone who doesn't have stable live singing while dancing. Therefore when people judge an idol's talent on how well they sing live while dancing, I cringe a lot.
Ningning and winter is def taengsic successor. Come on sm, give us the harmonies the high note the power vocals.
So what ningning need is confident. That shy baby butterfly needs confident to show the world how nice her voice is.
Ningning's vocal is another level. She is vocal queen🔥

Ningning's voice is the most powerful and something about her confidence and freedom when she's seeing is just so beautiful to me. I also love Winter's quality a lot.
Winter has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard, it's just soo soothing and her high notes are so clear, pristine, and sharp, I can't stop myself from listening to them over and over again. Karina is the other singer I love, she has a very specific voice, I could always pick her out her voice in their songs.
Those 2 are the ones imma keep my eye out for

winters vocals have ALWAYS surprised me, we know they have good vocals bc of the recording studio video, queens! They should sing like and I hope sm listens for once and lets them
My future prediction for aespa that I hope will come true:
NingNing will be a Proficient Vocalist or even Good
Winter will be a capable vocalist
Karina will be a A-AA Vocalist
Giselle will be a Average Vocalist
But who know I could be wrong, they might even be better

Of course you can have those predictions! Not for nothing people say NingNing has bada's type of voice, which is the SM's standard of vocals. Not for nothing Winter is said to be the next amazing vocalist with a soothing voice, sounding like Taeyeon and IU.

I will never really get tired saying how heavenly Winter's vocal is. Her vocal tone and color really adds special flavor in all their songs. I feel like without her voice, aespa songs wouldn't be as good as it is. There's no doubt on that because she was trained by YYJ who are known for having an eye on choosing his own students who has good vocals and tone like Kyungsoo and Changmin. Has a lot of style of rnb in their voices. As an exo-l and sm stan for years, I am so proud how SM keeps their legacy with their artists. Her vocal tone makes her stands out in every songs their singing. She can sing with her soft voice and she can also go sing high notes effortlessly which I never doubt because she is an sm artist. She is a lead vocalist who can easily pass as a main vocalist in other groups. Well, that's given because she is an sm artist. SM really did a great job hiding her at first because we were all surprised when we heard her voice for the first time in their debut song which is Black Mamba. I remember how mysterious she was that time and how some people thought she is just a visual and an average vocalist but got surprised because of how good her voice is how talented she is. Hearing her voice at first made me think that there is something more behind that voice like she can do more with her voice which is right. Her tone and her runs never fails and it's so satisfying to see how everyone gets addicted on hearing her voice. Another reason why she stands out most of the time is because of her amazing confidence. She knows how good looking and talented she is. That's our ace Winter for you, guys.
Other members are also good. They are all great vocalists specially our Ningning. She deserves the position of main vocalist so so much because she is one of a kind. SM never fails choosing their artist and gives them the position they truly deserves. To those people who are disregarding Ningning's position as a main vocalist, you are all funny. Same with how those other people who keeps on disregarding Winter's position as the main visual of the group, Karina as the main dancer and Giselle as the main rapper of the group. They are all talented in their own ways. I hope you learn more to appreciate each one of them without dragging the other members. Remember that they are all still young and can still improve. They can be even more better than what they are right now. They can show more and I'm very excited to see how much they can develop as years goes by. They deserves all the love and recognition they are having right now so please don't ruin it for them. :>

I hope SM let them sing live for their cb, I would celebrate even if Ningning cracks her voice (for real this time) on a performance.
I know we will appreciate them and we already know that singing live while dancing makes the voice shaky the perfection image sm wants to draw around them makes people attack them so bad
In 4th gen, only aespa and weeekly passed my list for having a strong and vocally capable vocal line (technicality wise).
Edit: lip syncing doesn't equate for being bad vocalist. It doesn't make them less talented and less skilled. And live singing isn't the basis of being a good vocalist .
Don't forget there's NMIXX. Lily,Haewon,Jinni and Sullyoon make a good vocal line for 4thGen.

it peaked to F#5 with some support present although it's still a light/soft head voice without much depth.

Sometimes when it gets really high Winter's voice becomes very piercing and it becomes hard to listen to it. Still, I think it would be great to here Aespa sing live. They are very much capable ❤️❤️❤️
Same thing can be said about yoon but that what makes me like them. like their piercingness make they sounded very high. Idk how to explain it.

I personally think so a bit too, but I usually try not to say much about that since they already get a bunch of hate. Tbh, if it isn’t too much for her to handle I’d prefer NingNing get allocated the high notes bc the one from BM is still my favourite from them.
People think just because they lip sync they can’t sing. No, they CAN sing but maybe they’re still training to sing while dancing live or SM just won’t let them perform. While it’s still a disappointment, we shouldn’t ignore the talents they clearly have.

Karina and Ningning both have that sweet yet a little husky? (idk how to describe it I'm not trained in western vocals lol) voice that really appeals to me. I find Karina's vocal colour to be very, very beautiful so I'm looking forward to a lot of improvement. As for Ningning I feel like she gets nervous immediately at an approaching high note, and surprisingly, unlike Winter's mixed voice I don't find Ningning's mixed voice annoying. Both of them are a Pandora's box of potential
Also another thing, about Ningning's softer belts, from my experience you have to be ridiculously trained to make a vocal belt _soft_ . It's amazing how Ningning can so effortlessly do a soft belt and drop to her full chest voice like it's so satisfying!
Ningning had 7 supported C#5s: 2 in Maria, 2 in 꿈에 (In dream), 1 in Like being hit by a bullet, 1 in Savage encore, 1 in Saving all my love for you (shallow)

aespa just keeps on improving, in their recent comeback they've outdone themselves, ning2 went from a c+ to a b- and karina and giselle are d+ winter is also a solid c-, they're rlly impressive.
Winter is my favorite vocalist in the group I really enjoy how she delivers her lines even if she sings the same lines that other members, I find really interesting that in Aespa title tracks she really demonstrates a lot of power, amazing lows, incredible high notes, strong vibrato and even growls, she's giving us full power, and in contrast to that, just see that whenever she has a chance to sing, she give us a dreamy, soft, calmed voice, mainly Head voice (examples: Radio, Knowing brothers, etc). She has this cool diversity when she is Winter in Aespa vs Winter's own choices to sing. I really feel atracted to that.
something i've always loved about winter is her growls. i haven't seen many female kpop vocalists incorporate such an aggressive growl. most female vocalists in kpop tend to favor a shrill and high toned voice so its quite refreshing to listen to winter in her lower range.
Karina's voice is probably overall my favorite in the group
i can't wait to see their improvement! they definitely have one of the best vocal line in 4th gen

SM really is the best at producing and casting the best vocalists
Jennie and Giselle are both very similar in terms of their roles. They both are main rappers of their group and even tho Jennie is a lead vocalist, Giselle has a lot of potential to become a lead vocalist.
No matter how much people are hating on Aespa, their voice and singing talents so called 'flops' are one of the easiest thing to debunk.
Now I'm not even surprised why SM makes them lipsync most of the time; it's all to preserve their precious voices. 👍
Thank you for the analysis! I've been wanting to know more about Ningning vocals because her skills are usually undermined when comparing 4th gen vocals. But I like her voice so much and knowing SM, she will just continue to improve.
I just hope SM let their artists have more live performances going forward.
Finally someone pointed out how ningning got easily nervous singing live. There were multiple times where she hold back, idk she sounded shaky or she sang in lower octave.
I ended up rewinding so much cause Aespa keeps shining in the background

I agree with you about Ningning lacking confidence. She is just great. Either is it the pressure of being main vocalist from SM and is afraid of being compared or something else, but she has to know that she is really great vocalist.
Hope she can work on it soon and show the world how great she is.
Tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if she lacks confidence because K-Netz aren’t exactly known for their love of Chinese people and so perhaps she feels like she’ll be judged more harshly if she makes a mistake. Especially when you consider that Winter is a lead capable of being a main and likely holds more favour with the gp simply due to being Korean.

I wouldn't say Lia deals with shallowness from time to time, her best moments are shallow (price tag and can't take my eyes off of you for example are entirely shallow) her usual approach carries pretty much no support at all.

@@certifiedsimp1441 Yes id say. If Lia kept her price tag like approach (ok from A3 to Bb4) shed be better than Giselle for sure, arguably a pretty low w-a, but with her usual approach she's not much better then Joy. She's only consistent with shallow support in her lower register.

I feel like winter has one of the most striking voices in 4th gen kpop, like if she hit a high note in a new comebacks you'd immediately know it's her. Because her voice is so powerful and sticks to you. It's so Intriguing and that's why i like winter

I watched their entire dreams come true recording video and their voices are amazing, they are trying their best and their vocals are amazing!
These girls are so talented. Regrettably, they were rarely given the opportunity to perform live. I'm hoping that SM will give them more opportunities to showcase their vocals. That's what people wanted to see, especially on stage with dance.
