@Jonathan Ryals same it will be my first time as well but with 30lbs cat bag might do it differently tho from this video which includes holes to add the potatoes in to grow outward from the bag
I know you posted this months ago, but just for anyone else who sees this and wants to do the same-the bags in this video are fabric bags meaning they’re breathable. This lets excess moisture drain or even evaporate from the bag. With a dog food (or fully plastic) bag, you don’t have any kind of ventilation going on so it’ll end up growing mold/the water will be stagnant for too long
I’m growing potatoes in a grow bag right now and was about to look up what to do after the flowers appear. Now I know! Fold the bag up and fill with compost. Thanks for this!
I bought some potato bags, vermiculite and top soil. I planted the potatoes, green stems shot up,i put in more top soil,3 times. When the plant started to die and turn yellow i harvested only 3 potatoes. One was the size of a fat grape and the other 2 the size of a pea. I wasnt going to give up,so i tried again. Same thing. Apparently potatoes arent that easy to grow.
@sirsanti8408 5 gal potato bags. And the stems grew up about 14 inches. I added soil 3 times. The top was growing great. And the bottom part wasnt. Next time I'm gonna add potassium to the soil.
@sierrajade63 Another important thing to remember is that potatoes can be indeterminate or determinate, so if determinate, there is no need to hill, but only hill indeterminate other wise the plant is wasting energy growing vines when it should be growing potatoes.
Try to use potash fertilizer and make sure they are always watered...it takes alot of energy to grow tubers and they need special fertilizer to help. Also don't use regular store potatoes, they are sprayed with anti growth chemicals. You should try again!
This video explains so much in such a short time. I love it!!! Loving this whole idea!❤
I turned my dog food bags inside out and am trying this for the first time this year.
Do you cut holes in the bag?
@@mamaguap1183 I didn't.

How big were the bags and how much foliage was there?

@@sierrajade63 yeah at least a different brand of soil, maybe just some good potting soil would do good

Could you please provide the link for the full video?
Thank you for sharing this useful video, straight to the point. ❤❤
How many pounds do you get from one bag
This is exactly what I needed to know .. thank you…
You can use mulch straw after the potatoes are growing and they dont get green and they are clean and mulch retains water.
Adding more dirt does not give you more potatoes
It doesn’t? So you just let the leaves grow and it won’t change nothing
@@jadawggaming6342 Hilling the dirt just makes sure the sun doesn't hit the potatoes and turn them green
@kennyATWLF666 what's the point of the burlap sack?
Damn, and knowing that i will never use grow bags makes me feels weird
The flick of the wrists
What size grow bag do you use for potato & other plants?
For me the bigger the bag the better results with potatoes 5lbs-10lbs bags are what I tried so far
@@kevenlee6862 How many seed potatoes do you plant in a bag - is it 1 per bag or more? Thanks from a newbie! 🙂
Succinct, to the point; bounteous contribution.
I've filled my potatoes bag with dirt because of the roots have gotten that high when do I harvest the potatoes
You only need to do this for indeterminate potatoes. Do your research on the type because you may end up wasting time and money on soil.
Did you use indeterminate potato varieties ?
Must be. Since his is so tall. The determines only go around 2ft max.
What bags are these?
I bought mine at the dollar store
What size bags are those?
10 gallon
