This sponsor is pretty sus. You have no way to trade your “shares” outside of their platform, no way to influence the timing of sales of paintings, so possibly no way to get your money out when you need it. Looks like a well-camouflaged Ponzi scheme to me.

Stephen, if you can't figure out for yourself why the stock market commodification of legacy art is egregious and disgusting, then I'm flabbergasted. I never figured you for a guy who'd want to act as an agent of capitalist hegemony, and always imagined that your rationality and humanity extended beyond the realm of abstract philosophical critique. You've earned your first dislike from me with the regret that I can't click the icon at least 10 times. My subscription to your channel is on probation until I see a walk-back.
I'm going to unbend and offer you a brief summary of why this kind of thing is bad: If schemes like this are not a losing bet for investors, then their intended effect will bid up the price of significant art to a level where it is not only beyond the reach of non-billionaire individuals, but beyond the reach of public institutions, removing it from the cultural commonwealth at large, and consigning it to the palaces of the overlords. Comprende? Are you in favor of the democratization of art and culture, or the enemy of that idea?

There's a reason why every dogmatic religion ever asserted by mankind started very localized & is not surprisingly derived from the culture of that region, but most people are unable/unwilling to connect-the-dots. At this point in time, abstract forms of Deism are the only remotely plausible forms of theism - but the complete lack of dogma means that people can't use it for power, manipulation & control.

    100% Projection, ignorance and LIES!

  • @KGP221
    @KGP221 ปีที่แล้ว

The definition of Faith is a “strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof” and “a strongly held belief or theory”.
The definition of opinion is “a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge”.
These definitions are nearly identical and it can therefore be said that faith is nothing more than an opinion.
When life’s circumstances (all life) is confidently examined it becomes clear that what we know of the universe and our existence in it, is vastly outweighed by what we don’t know. Most of what we believe then is faith or opinion that has been handed down to us from our parents or caregivers and strongly based upon the region of the world we were born into. While some individuals find fault with their natal beliefs, many cling to these psychological lifelines and never search for other possible explanations outside of the comfortable lies they have been given.
Does it matter so much how we label ourselves to identify what we came to believe, or is it enough to accept that we are searching for a truth that may eventually lead us to an understanding that our only purpose might just be to survive as a species for as long as we possibly can before a change erupts within our universe that forces our elimination or mutation into something unrecognizable to our present identity?
What divides people are their individual beliefs and while we’re squandering our limited number of breaths on debating unknowns, we fail to acknowledge that when that change comes upon us, holding onto our individual faith (opinion) won’t be an option. Change will materialize whether or not we are physiologically or psychologically equipped to survive within that changed environment.
While our species lives on day to day, we continue murdering each other widely based upon unknown and unproven labels and ideologies. But the processes driving the universe don’t recognize or acknowledge what we believe or how we feel. There doesn’t appear to be any moral glue holding the universe together. There only seems to be one rule for survival whether we are a single individual or an infinite range of species-there are no rules and there are no gods keeping score.
It's never too late to agree on the one thing that unites us all-survival-until it's too late. Adapt, change, survive or be eliminated. Those are the only options.

@@2Question-Everything Seeking truth always leads to God the Creator.
You can start with any path to begin seeking truth, and it will eventually end up in an infinite loop.
      For example:
Our best theory on the creation of all things is that a Big Bang was the beginning of time, space, matter, energy, etc.
In order for a bang to be created, there would have to be enough time that existed before the bang to allow enough energy build up to cause a bang.
What caused the energy to build up and start the bang?
What created whatever caused the energy build up?
What created the thing that created the thing? (You’ve entered an infinite loop here.)
The only way out of this loop is to accept something always existed as far back as we can understand infinity.
What created infinity? What created the thing that created infinity? (Welcome back to the loop)
      That’s God, the creator.

So, Michael never said (As I understand him) that there are no smart atheists. He accused the New Atheists (Dawkins and co) of not knowing what they're talking about, which is demonstrably true. Dawkins got a bunch of theistic arguments patently wrong because he doesn't know any philosophy, yet fancied himself capable of writing a book about it. So pointing at the proportion of atheists among "great scientists" (I'd like to see the source on that tbh, because I'm curious how "great" is defined) is a non-sequitur - Dawkins remains a midwit - and to suggest otherwise is to lie about what the man actually said.

Saying that American Christians typically want something closer to social Darwinism under your definition is entirely incorrect. Just as not believing in a god doesn’t mean you hate those who believe, denying the usefulness of increased government power, influence, and spending on welfare doesn’t mean you hate those who would be on the receiving end of those benefits or wish to see their wealth and prosperity decrease. It simply means that they have differing opinions on how to go about approaching the issue. At best, this statement was ignorance, at worst it was an intentional mis characterization I would’ve thought you above.

This was because the former definition is pretty untenable. But what happened is that atheism became almost nothing. Just a nonbelief. I am of the opinion that I almost do not care if someone says they are an atheist anymore. I want to know their worldview. Read Orwell? They adopted it. 1984 is an inversion of 1948.
A straw man is a form of argument and an informal fallacy of having the impression of refuting an argument, whereas the real subject of the argument was not addressed or refuted, but instead replaced with a false one. One who engages in this fallacy is said to be "attacking a straw man".
All right wing memes are strawmen. Then they beg the question
In classical rhetoric and logic, begging the question or assuming the conclusion is an informal fallacy that occurs when an argument's premises assume the truth of the conclusion, instead of supporting it.
And when that fails they will make an appeal to populism, which is the basis of Authoritarian Communism
argumentum ad populum (plural argumenta ad populum) (rhetoric) A fallacious argument that concludes a proposition to be true because many or all people believe it; it alleges that “if many believe so, it is so”.
      Or cry "Fake News"
Argument from incredulity, also known as argument from personal incredulity, appeal to common sense, or the divine fallacy, is a fallacy in informal logic. It asserts that a proposition must be false because it contradicts one's personal expectations or beliefs, or is difficult to imagine.
The second most common strategy is to gaslight.
Gaslighting describes the systematic pattern of abuse by which the abuser manipulates factual information to give the victim the impression that they cannot trust their own senses. They may repeatedly focus on their own feelings in order to make the victim feel guilty for hurting them. Psychologists recognise this as being part of the grooming process seen so often in cases of Child Sexual Exploitation.
Strange how every right wing influencer, shitposter, and troll use the same populist rhetoric used by sexual predators to confound their victims,
      Isn't that just *so weird*
The last ditch effort is to Poison the Well... which is a cocktail of the fallacies listed above. Designed to leave the opponent stumped as to which claim to unpack and address, by which time the agent provocateur has moved onto a different talking point or personal attack.
      That's because Reich Whingers are Bullshivics;
Bolshevik, bull, civic-minded, demagogue), a person who gains political power by appealing to individuals feeling's instincts, & prejudices in a fashion that is considered manipulative & myopic; an individual who incessantly reiterates equivalent petty issues, until these are generally taken seriously
_There are citizens with valid complaints & issues, but invariably the meeting will have to deal with some Bullshivic & his personal gripe of "supreme importance".
America is a People's Democratic Republic with a Constitutional document, just like China, Iran, N Korea and the USSR. Patriotism and Communism are identical phenom, where the Party demands total loyalty, above even truth.
"Claim everything, deny everything, explain nothing".
      Prescott Bush
      "Deny, Disinform, deflect."
      Roger Stone
"Accuse your enemy of that which you are guilty of"
      Saul Alinksy
      "Blame the Victim"
      Protocol 23
"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."
      George Orwell, 1984
The Reich Whinge are America's Authoritarian Communist Party
"Deflect and distract, never give in, never admit fault, lie and attack, lie and attack, publicity no matter what, win no matter what"
      Roy Cohn

This diatribe by DeStefano and Knowles is straight-up hate speech. Kudos to Stephen for deconstructing it intellectually, but it actually doesn't even merit treatment at that level. It's rim full of factual untruth. Terbaccy chawin' preachers have been spewing this stuff for a long time, but this foul video is meant to provide a more "intellectual" rubric for desired programs of repression. They point straight away at the political dimensions of what they're saying. They speak in outraged terms of the power atheists have gained. Just what power would that be? The power to get a book published, after all the eons of shunning? The power to speak our mind in public with a somewhat reduced danger of reprisal, compared to the past? These guys definitely want a return to stigma and mockery. They definitely don't want us to ever see the power to make a plausible run for a public office. Still at this day, that's virtually impossible. These guys think that's appropriate and want it to stay that way, and this is their project to see that it does, at the very least. The vitriolic tone of their discourse, however, makes it clear that they privately hope for worse consequences for the ungodly. Their little video is one more item of the current right wing American movement toward a fascist order. We atheists have a sacrament of abortion and euthanasia? We're right in blood libel territory here. This rhetoric is the intellectual grounding for ideas right next door to QAnon fantasies of pedophilic rituals of sexual torture murder or the Nazi's infamous "Protocols of the Elders of Zion." These guys are sinister.

Most atheists are fully aware of and receptive of this concept. Many others are not.
My argument is based in the desire to proof free will explicitly(if possible), not whether or not someone knows the minds of gods that may or may not exist.
Atheism, for some, does infact become a belief system on occassion for some people. They presuppose many ideas that perhaps are incorrect, because they are potentially unwilling to deal with probabilities(some which can quantified, and others that currently cannot be quantified).
Human beings oftentimes tie their self worth and sense of being into certainties. And our shared reality does not exactly serve up certainties on a silver platter.

Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which the abuser attempts to sow self-doubt and confusion in their victim's mind. Typically, gaslighters are seeking to gain power and control over the other person, by distorting reality and forcing them to question their own judgment and intuition to give the victim the impression that they cannot trust their own senses. They may repeatedly focus on their own feelings in order to make the victim feel guilty for hurting them. Psychologists recognise this as being part of the grooming process seen so often in cases of Child Sexual Exploitation.
Strange how right wingers and every other shitposter and troll use the same populist rhetoric used by sexual predators to *GROOM* and confound their victims,

Core to maintaining a religious movement is persistence in light of new and better information; it is maliciously ignorant and thusly, malevolent by its very nature. Malice as to intent, ignorant to facts, and malevolent in purpose. It's what every religion's theocratic model requires to maintain its "believers". There is not one religion without believers or belief system and all of their origin stories are lies. By definition, religion is a cult. It is why all religions are taught to children by their religious elders, and why all religions are doctrinally dogmatic. Otherwise, all persistent faiths would not persist; a house made of cards, inside a hurricane, is not a guarantee that the hurricane will not move.

I was raised Catholic but became an atheist at 23 while coming to terms with my mortality while dealing with a lethal disease. The reason being that was the first time in my life I realized I had no control over what was about to happen to me. That incredibly humbling experience was responsible for shifting my entire perspective of the world around me 180 degrees. My new perspective was an epiphany discovering what a powerful, clarifying and beautiful thing humility can be. From that point forward rather than view the world in the selfish manner I had always done in the past from the inside out as something to subdue and dominate, instead for the first time I saw the world from the opposite perspective of the outside in realizing and accepting that there are many mysteries and powerful forces like my mortality that are totally beyond my control and that is ok! Consequently I must accept and seek harmony with them. By contrast in hindsight I realize how organized religion appeals to peoples fears and vanity to seduce and brainwash them by promising them spiritual domination over death, the universe and everything in the hereafter for eternity in exchange for their obedience and $ in the here and now. How ridicules that is yet millions of people fall for it like I once did. Oh and that lethal disease fortunately turned out to be a misdiagnosis!

Something I find interesting in these discussions is how often they ignore nontheistic religion. I am glad you mentioned Buddhism. I am a modern Satanist. I am a member of The Satanic Temple. I m an atheist that doesn't believe in anything supernatural. His conseption of atheism doesn't apply to me. Not all of it anyway. The first tenet of my religion states: "One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason." Congregations of The Satanic Temple are required to engage in charity work. That doesn't sound like social Darwinism. Furthermore TST has social justice as a core belief. The second tenet of TST says: "The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions". The LaVeyan Satanism however does believe in social Darwinism. The Church of Satan has straight up said they are eugenicists. LaVey was a believer in survival of the fittest. He used the Latin term Lex Talionis; the law of the talon. The Satanic Bible was published in 1968. So LaVey had an outdated view of evolution. But the CoS dogmatically hangs on to his views. By contrast the the fifth tenet of TST says: "Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs." We now understand that humans are a social species and a ruthless "might makes right" attitude like the one espoused by the CoS is detrimental to the survival of our species.
So you can't lump all atheists into a single box other than the one labeled "lack of belief in a god or gods". The diversity of views just among religious atheists is enough to illustrate that. But theists like this guy want to lump us all together so we are easier to demonize. Atheistic Satanists holding a "mensturatin for Satan" drive to collect menstrual products to donate to the poor; ends up shattering that narrative. I myself would love to have a religious building to run a vegan soup kitchen type of deal where anyone can come and get free food without having people try to convert them. On a more political level I am in favor of Universal Basic Income and Universal health care. Welfare and a more just economic system should make these types of religious acts of charity largely obsolete. I love the idea of the helping the less fortunate. But I love the idea of these people not needing the help even more.

I'm an atheist who neither believes or disbelieves in a materialist basis of reality. I consider myself a philosophical Taoist who thinks that the basis of reality is necessarily mysterious and beyond the scope of verbal conceptualization and cannot be described by terms such as supernaturalism or materialism, or described in language at all. I definitely disbelieve in any gods and think that the concept of a God or gods is fundamentally a pernicious concept. My philosophical, political, and cultural attitudes are very much at odds with many atheists I have met, beyond our common rejection of the God belief. You could also say that I am a methodological materialist and rationalist, but not an ontological one.
I think that the attempt to characterize atheists as some kind of coherent or homogenous group is more disingenuous and malign than simply ignorant. It comes out of a wish to identify atheists with particular terms that will be seen as objectionable in popular culture.
The accusation of Social Darwinism is particularly egregious. Social Darwinism is far removed from my own ideas about ethics and the outlook of most atheists that I have known. It is actually not the position of most people who believe in the truth of Darwinist evolution at all. Social Darwinism is built on a misconception of the dynamics of biological evolution. It was formulated by people who never had a good understanding of the theory, but wanted to exploit it for regressive political and economic purposes. Social Darwinism does not legitimately hold the title of Darwinism at all, and it is not a scientific theory.

Great video, unfortunatley I can't say the same about the sponsor. Contemporary art has mainly been killed by this art market created by people completly insensitive for piece of art and only sees them as a mean to gain more wealth.
Usually I don't complain about sponsors, I'm so used to see them everywhere on TH-cam that it doesn't matter to me anymore. But as an art enthousiast myself, seeing someone promoting the kind of structure that contribute to destroying it, it doesn't sit well with me. I'm inviting you to look into the state of contemporary art and see what it has become. Moreover this company looks like the kind to make people believe easy money is possible and exploiting the ones too naive to believe them. I really think it's better to stop associate with this brand and other similar one.

      Totally agree with you.
I know youtubers can't be too fussy on who advertises with them and this may not be fair but channels like rationality rules are judged to a higher standard than other channels.
