      meatloaf was a legend Tod Rungren was a genius Todd wrote most of the arrangements sang backgrounds played the guitars and engineered the album. Myself having done Vocals with Meat on back into paradise the Bat out of hell vocal performances are a producer in his highest form that meatloaf is one of the grand asters moments . You kids will never have songs to serenade your existence you DJs not doing it very well and hip hop with no harmony ... just listen to that record a few hundred times like everyone else did for 20 years of its relevance

    This is a "rock opera" a subgenre of rock and roll. Meat Loaf (written as two words for the late great singer RIP), made a career out of making big productions like this - most all written by the fantastically talented Jim Steinman (RIP). In fact, if it wasn't for Meat Loaf, there may never have been a rock opera subgenre. He was the gold standard.
    These two made a helluva team! Jims writing and Meat's singing was gold! Meat sang with such gusto and passion and made you FEEL every word with a sort of gusto and grit with his inflections and how he phrased things, and that dude had some pipes to deliver big belting sounds.
    Others to consider:
    "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad"
    "Heaven Can Wait"
    "I Would Do Anything For Love"
    "Objects in Rear View Mirror"
    "Life is a Lemon"
    "Rock And Roll Dreams Come True"

    • @Lynn-kh5rs
      @Lynn-kh5rs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Meat Loaf was very talented and one of the greats, but as far as rock opera is concerned 'Tommy' by The Who was before 'Bat Out of Hell'. Also "Sorrow is born,'' the British band the Pretty Things entered the rock-and-roll history books in 1968 with what is generally acknowledged as the first rock opera."

      Yes, that was Karla DeVito in the video. But the vocal on the recording was actually sung by Ellen Foley. Foley was also an actress and she was a part of the cast on the TV series Night Court during the 2nd season. There were some other great musicians on this recording too. Todd Rundgren was the guitarist and did background vocals as well as produce the recording, Roy Bittan (keyboards) and Max Weinberg (drummer) of the E Street Band were both on it, and Edgar Winter was the saxophonist.

    Great reaction! Not many reactors get the baseball metaphor, so I'm glad you picked up on that! Meat Loaf is the man, not the band, and while this is a fun song, it doesn't show off his insane vocal range, nor the dynamism, timbre and power of his voice. Try "Bat Out of Hell", "For Crying Out Loud" or "I'd Do Anything For Love" to get the full effect. All written by the same composer as this one, Jim Steinman. All 8+ minutes long, and all with the same epic storytelling with a twist. Have fun exploring the Meat and Jim rabbit-hole! :)

  • @professionalvampire1
    @professionalvampire1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    The entire Bat Out of Hell album is perfection. My favorites on it are Bat Out of Hell and For Crying Out Loud, but that doesn't take anything away from the others. Then there's Anything for Love, Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through, and Hot Patootie - plus many others.
    Meat Loaf was the consummate performer - he poured his heart and soul out on stage. I saw him perform maybe 10 years ago...he was well past his prime, but it was impossible to tell. He put on the same kind of show that this video depicts. The day he died, and also the day that Jim Steinman (the songwriter who wrote all the songs on all 3 Bat Out of Hell albums plus many others) died were both very sad days for music.

    Ah the memories. I had to sneak a listen to this from my aunt’s vinyl collection when it was released…. Not that I understand the lyrics I was only ten but everyone was talking about this crazy song. Another Great reaction🔥🔥

      Ha ha! My first memory of Meatloaf was of my mom buying the Bat out of Hell cd for her long awaited convertible. I was like 11 and was kinda scared of the fact the song dared to have a bad word in it (hell)! I was super sheltered.

    Meat Loaf is what we call a Rock Opera. His Music tells a story. All his songs are like that.

    Laghed so much watching you're reaction to the twists in this song, at 49 I've listened to this song countless times, it never gets old. Meatloaf was a legend who could make laugh or cry.

    Your first time hearing Meat loaf?!? Everything he did s a banger. He had the best storyteller songwriter that created the amazing lyrics and his voice is so dynamic. I might be aging myself, but he was part of my childhood years. Epic all the way around. Glad you have been sucked in too 😁. I will love his songs forever. ❤ May they both rest in peace and jam in heaven keeping the angels rocking.

    One of my top ten favorite rock songs RIP meatloaf. He never aspired to be a huge rock star. He was doing theater and that's what he wanted til he was heard singing in a play. Everyone was blown away by that powerhouse voice. That's what I heard anyway.

    Meat Loaf was opera trained, cut his chops on Broadway He always played to the back row.

    I love watching young people react to this song. From okay I can deal with this, to seeing paradise,to the ballgame then to her ultimatum, his concession, to their desperation of it all to end. Always so much shock and awe and laughter. Meatloaf was a master at taking you on a voyage. I hope you do more.👍

    And just like that a young dude who probably never would have listened to rock opera finds a really cool singer had a lot of fun and got the message. Superb reaction.

    I LOVE that you love this! Meatloaf was so underrated. Idk if anyone has said, but the woman singing is Karla DeVito who married teen heartthrob Robby Benson. She's an incredible singer and sand with Meatloaf so we'll.

    In the time that this was written a dashboard light was located in the underside of the top of the dash and turned on and off with a switch. It was a fairly bright light designed to allow for map reading, so it would illuminate anything from mid waist to the floor. Just FYI.

    I got engaged to this song, parked at the marina….to my high school love…I was 17. It was February 29th, leap year, and he put the ring on my finger as this song was on the radio. Ahhh what a sweet memory.
