REVIEW: FX Airguns DRS

- This is my review, slightly late of the FX Airguns DRS. This is the UK legal sub 12 ft lb version in 22 Cal. Let's be clear, I bought this with my own money.
YOU TUBE - I received no payment or sponsorship as per your new rules - this is a review with all my own words and thoughts and no one paid me to make this. Made in my own time at my own cost. This is also an airgun, not a firearm - legal to own in the UK without a license - in no way is this a firearm as confirmed by UK Law.

God god, it’s Giles!
I’ve had two kids, put them through primary school, high school and uni since your last video. 😂
Good to see you, bud. 🙏
You forgot your now a Grandad three times over. Cheers. G
At 12 minutes 56 I saw the magazine o ring get shredded. It is a gorgeous air rifle.
You Sir are once again a breath of fresh air in the airgun world. I understand your comments about the growing samness of airgun reviews. Most are completely meaningless that do nothing to inform anybody about a product. Thank you.
Fabulous to see you back and give such a glowing review of the rifle I have just bought though in .177 cal. I'm using the Dreamline mag as I couldn't get on with the mini mag, my RFD swapped it, but will buy the one you demonstrated when you have back in stock. I too found that regular cleaning improves accuracy immensely as previously a cleaning regime was unnecessary with my HW100. Brilliant review Giles, glad you're enjoying shooting and staying safe and well. Thanks
Hammer spring float when uncocked reduces hammer bounce when fired. It is not a defect, it is a simple solution to reduce air consumption, and muzzle report.
Giles I must say, my 7 year old, Notos shooting son Levi and I look forward to your reviews and comedy " this side of the pond" Thank you for the laughs and reviews.
Love the Firebird shot.....Thanks for watching both of you. Giles.
Just a tip on O-rings - use a small amount of inert grease you can buy at most DYI shops or plumbing supplies.
As it is not petroleum based, it will preserve the rubber and aid the seal.
Just when I was going to clean my u tube subscription list giles comes back to life and posts a belter of a video 👍
Good to see you back Giles
Thanks Daniel. G
So good to see a great review with a great person, thank you Giles.
Very Kind. G
Great to see you back and all excited 😊
The gun looks good you never mentioned a price . Hope your back havin fun 😊
👍🏴😁✌️
I have one in walnut with the 600 barrel and FAC.
Magazine does suck.
So I bought the Orion mag. Two of them 😊
Had to tune mine down , 1025 fps with a 15 grain pellet out of the box.
I think it was tuned for an 18 grain.
Now 925 fps with one hole 5 shot at 25 yards.
Needs a plug for the fill port hole.
I emailed Orion and they said it's a good idea and where going to get some measurements.
Love the gun and a great video !
Hope we don't have to wait too long for your next video 👍
Once I find something of interest....will get the camera out. Cheers. G
You do the best and most accurate and honest reviews on here. Please keep doing more Giles
Welcome back. Great video.
Sometimes it is about going back to basics, a cheaper rifle really does put a smile on your face.
Agreed. Thanks for watching. G
Great to see a review again Giles. Hope you are well fella.....and please can we have more. 🙂
Thank you Giles. If you don't mind me saying, it's been too long. There are many reviewers of air rifles on TH-cam but none who do it like you. Cracking review of what looks like a very good rifle. Hopefully something will come along to prompt your next review, fingers crossed. Thanks again.
Great video. I bought one of these in .25/700mm came with the large upgraded plenum and slug barrel, so it's basically a DRS Pro in this version after slug kit installed. It is really a fine gun can't stop shooting and playing with it. I am in USA so i can "still" adjust regulator and it makes huge difference between different pellets weights and styles on accuracy. Was putting out well over 1000 fps out of box with 28.24 grain pellet had to turn down because of flyers, now shooting out the bullseye at 50 yards at about 900 fps. I did put the DRS high rail picatinny on it and glad i did. Its real loud without a moderator, real close to a 22LR report. Only two things i do not like, the magazine is horrible in every way, there is no upgrade available for .25. The air fill probe major weak link, already had to replace one ring and there out of stock. Sharp edges where probe goes in, got to be real gentle and go straight in and never forget to use pressure release on compressor before pulling it out, instant o ring destruction if not.
Good to see you back on TH-cam
Thanks Paul. G
Looks a real looker, I still got my HW80 Left Hand that I've had for 40 years, I tuned it for consistency when I was still a teen, I even made a solid one piece spring guide in for it on the school's lathe, as the originals one was crude and the resulting spring noise annoyed the hell out of me when I 1st got it, and and it still holds zero, its still got the 40 year old Swedish silicon chrome spring I trimmed down and polished the ends in it.. the only parts that have changed in that time are the breach seal and barrel shims as I ditched the original steel ones and made aluminium ones as I would rather have the shims wear out that than the originals cut a concentric groove into the breach jaws like I had noticed on a friends HW35 back then, that simple mod held up and worked well, I have bought other rifles over the years but never kept them as it does the job well enough for me...
I'm getting the 25 fac version cannot wait
Great to see you back Giles and thanks for keeping with your usual entertaining and common sense approach👍🏻👍🏻
Brilliant as always Giles and so good to see you back do-oooing it again.
I bought one. Its very good. Thanks Giles, great to see you back!
Wise Man Say "Get DRS" :) Cheers. G
Great review. Like you say, looks so much better with a bottle on it, even if the barrel is slightly wider. Nice looking rifle. I’d have one.
Gday thanks for your honest opinion and feedback on this air rifle, always enjoy your videos and the content you post hope to see you do a few more? Especially if the manufacturers can produce something different instead of the same old stuff and keep that enthusiasm up cheers 🇦🇺🤠👍
Hi Giles! Thanks for your review! I cut the o-rings a little flatter with a sharp knife, slides in and out easy now👌🏻
Interesting....not tried that....the old eyes would fail me, no surgeon here. Cheers. G
What's the point of the o rings on the magazine?
Looking to get one what's the shot count like
Yaaah! Giles is back!
Back, just like Bobby Ewing.....
My man, you are a rare commodity! x
...not in the shower though, please! 😅
@@AirgunGearShow 😂 LOL
how many shot per fill
Nice to see you back Giles, thought you'd got lost.
Good review (as always) on a nice looking rifle, giving it straight talk and no waffle. Keep 'em coming!
Thank you for some real testing (unlike a certain other chap). If you are happy with your DRS then that's all that really matters and the shot count per charge is impressive. I will stick with my £500 .22 JTS Airacuda Max, Regulated, 2 metal mags, all metal body and thumbhole wood stock with an adjustable cheek piece. Picatinny rails and shrouded barrel. I was so impressed I bought a .177 one. THEY HAVE FAULTS but they are fixable and standing shots with them are like holding a pool cue with a Main Battle Tank on the tip. I only bought then as .22LR rounds are bonkers expensive now. And pumping the JTS's with a Hill hand pump is killing my beer belly, so WIN-WIN. Cheers for a decent honest review, with ACTUAL proof of the shots and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Good to have you back, mate👌🏻
Good to see you back Giles.
Nice to see you back on the show Giles as you can see you been away far to long fella , liked your honesty on the DRS .........well done
Giles I love the way you put things in perspective!
We’ve missed you!
Very Kind Peter. Thanks G.
THANKS AS ALWAYS GILES. 🎯🇬🇧👍🏼
I ❤️FX
Thanks for watching Mike. G
Love the humour in your vids, wish you had time to do more. Unfortunately I'll probably own an M4 before your review comes out in 4 months time 🙂
M5.....Ha ha....Thanks for watching. G
As someone who (and most of us did) start out with airguns before moving on to other stuff this looks very cool. It also sounds a lot more reasonable than recent airguns pricing which has gotten a little bit silly. My last airgun was a HW110 (which also had slightly fiddly mags) was about £750. Like you these days it does take something truly innovative to peak my interest. 144 shots it’s great I would probably go for a 1.77.
Wow just looked up the price, I was expecting 1400 , 1500. It’s around 750 ish Quid 😊 definitely going to order one.
Happy to see your review Giles. I have missed your sense of having fun. Hope to see more before I kick off. LOL
Great, Giles, to watch you review the DRS. Loved every moment, including the digs. You have pretty much single handedly sold one to me, but I’ve no room in my gun cabinet 🗄️ 😢
Great vid Giles. I purchased the same gun .22 sub 12 DRS back in May, but after about 300 shots it started playing up. Shots were all over the place, so I put it through the chrono. Power output was all over the place. It was ranging from 23ft/lbs to 7 ft/lbs. Yes 23ft/lbs! Obviously I sent it straight back (Pellpax). That was over 6 weeks ago and I'm still waiting!! I really like the gun but don't know if ill ever have confidence with it (if I ever get it back that is)
Nice to see you again Giles ,And pleased with your new F X .
My favorite air gun guy ... Giles you are by far my favorite reviewer thank you
Nice one, Giles. I've got the walnut drs in 177. It's not a tack driver, that's for sure. It's noisy as hell without a moderator. But still OK. The mag is tosh and fiddly as hell so single shot loader all the way for me soon knocked one up on the 3d printer And the picatinny rail is a must to get good eye relief or I think so for me. I'm still using adjustable mounts to keep the scope on as optical.center as i can.But it's light and is nice to shoot.
Brilliant Giles is back, always enjoyed the reviews, hopefully more to come 😁👍
This is the first time I’ve become aware of the DRS and I don’t think I’ve wanted anything more than I want this rifle right now.
Hey up fella, good to see you buddy, they do look a nice bit of kit and I’ve been contemplating on one of these and been teetering on the edge to get one or not……and I just might after watching this. Don’t be a stranger, it’s always good to see you.
The Orion magazines are a 'must have' upgrade for the DRS. The factory magazines are a PITA.
Thanks for watching. G
Good to see you Giles!
Good to see you back, and what a cracking rifle! Nicely done sir.
Missed you Giles Do more please 👍👍👍
Will try David. Thanks. G
Welcome Back Giles,
I love my Walnut DRS but agree with you about the mags, one of the o rings disappeared somewere after a few times use.The DRS is my first FX,couldnt be happier.
Always like your work and presenting style. You make me smile and I thank you.
Love it! Great comments and honest review! That magazine you showed there looks awesome :)
Wonderful air rifle and as usual your videos are on point. Thank you for what you do.
Heyup G' a lot of gun for the price, I thoroughly enjoyed reviewing it in the same calibre, keep an eye on catching the safety with your thumb & it's fine, great content, cheers buddy, Jon 👍Hawkes eye TV 👍😁
Nice to see you again Giles! always enjoy your videos cheers from the USA!
You do make a good vid my man. Good to see a review again.
Thanks Rob. Cheers G
Thanks for the time making this vid ! Legend ! Sod the trolls! love watching you on TH-cam !
From a fellow air gunner in the uk 👍🏻
That's my next gun, it looks the business and is the business. 😍
Thanks for watching my vid. Cheers. G
As a lifelong airgunner, and the owner of many 'traditional' PCPs (FX2000, S310/410, Excalibre etc), the recent trend for Rambo-esque military and Bullpup styled rifles has dampened my enthusiasm for the sport.......but this is the first rifle in a long time that has piqued my interest and made me sit up and take notice again.
Great review as always, I have won a .22 Walnut cannot wait to get my hands on it!!
Thanks Giles! ❤
Great review. Thank you 👍👍
Thanks for watching. G
Awesome review Giles. As said, lovely looking, fair price to be honest. My Crown MK1 had the synthetic stock which was very comfortable. Not as smooth as the HW110, but still very good.
Great episode, nicely done and thanks for the time you take to do this, would love to get ones of these and this video is tempting me very much, Cheers dude
cheers giles most have been one of the best revues ever
Excellent review Giles. Pity they don’t put sling studs on all rifles. I wouldn’t go near any gun with a drill for fear of messing it up
Always makes me nervous. Thanks for watching G.
Thank you for showing us adjustment placement
Welcome back...Great wee video
The Boss is back. Yehhh
I've got a classic in .177,and the one thing I would advise anyone who buys one is get the shop to put it on the shop chrono.mine was super accurate to 20 yds ( back yard length) but on an FT course a mate said that it sounds like a long time to hit a 30 yd target 🤔.on the chrono at home it gave me a 16 shot average of 8.6ftlb,back to FX it went - it had a bent valve pin! Now running 11.4ftlb and absolutely nailing the long targets.😊 Btw, regards the mag, I use a bamboo skewer to hold the spring back to get the first pellet in,and make sure the pellet head for the first out of the mag is flush or it's a really hard to insert it into the gun.
Great review. Have had mine a while now but I use my 18 shot Maverick magazines in mine (y)
Yes, that will work - providing the scope clearance works. Cheers. G
Love the content, good to see you! (Loving the watch as well…)
Good to see you review this gun
Superb review, Giles. Thank you, I might just swap my Dreamline for one of these.
Thanks for watching. G
Did you say a bit of a gap ? An F16 would be needed to catch it up.even had my hip opp on the nhs and you know how long that takes 🤣🤣great stuff welcome back!
Love your style of commentary ....new subscriber too 👍🏻
Thanks for watching. Welcome. G
I run Orion mini-mags in my dreamline. They're easy to use and allow me to run much lower scope mounts 👌
I do like your video , I understand it , I like your attitude.thanks for the video
I was looking at this rifle today and then Giles pops up with the rifle , how uncanny is that.😊 well done Sir Giles 😂😂😂
Nice looking air rifle. 👍
Thank you and for watching. G
@6:59 yeah those adapters look like a good idea, but in practice prevent a solid grip. Wish it had a picatinny variant, dovetail just sucks.
Also kind of needs a dust cover for the fill port.
Finally, you came back to your subscribers
Hi Giles another honest and entertaining review I bought the drs in .22 3 week goo and what a nice rifle love the lightness of it, my magazine too is very stiff to install what are fx playing at all that work on the rifle and throw a bum magazine in with it,I was thinking of removing the o rings as they are def the problem, like you I too need to fit a picatinny rail to it so I can mount it on my tripod, the gun is now very quiet thanks to an AM silencer all I hear is the mech before there was quite a bark keep up the entertaining review mate thanks
Giles is back hooray
For how long this time....LOL. Cheers. G
Another great video bud, let's see some more.
All about the time. Thanks for watching, G
@@AirgunGearShow Yeah I know the feeling I've not managed to get one up on my Channel for a few weeks even though I've got the footage.
hes back with a banger!
The ending was beautiful, thank you!
one of your best videos true old time looking air gun. Now what about a under lever type to review
Hi. Couple of days late to the vid. I've also probably missed and earlier vid. I can't find a video on the Remington Vought that looks just a nice but is a wee bit more budget. If I have missed the review I apologise. If not it could be a good comparison video. Love the channel keep up the good work. All the best Al😅
Great Video Giles. Been a bit since I commented and I had to resub to you.
It is a fabulous looking thing! 👍
I've just got walnut grade 2.. lovely rifle
Missed you mate, great video and I agree the DRS is a fantastic rifle and yes I bought one too.
Great review, looking forward to the next one.
I want one maybe to replace the Streamline but I think ill wait for the DRS Mk2 or 3 you know there will be one. LOL.
Good to see Giles back.
Hello Hello mate, good to see you again! I bought one in walnut, it's fab as you put it but unfortunately there are lots of negativity about DRS out there...
Walnut, lovely I am jealous. Thanks for watching. G
