The first special edition controller I bought is the orange and purple joycons, I love their design and when my last joycons stopped working I had the perfect excuse to get them.
Yeah I got that colour combo too, though I don't know if they count as special editions. They're just different colours. It's like a got the switch originally with blue and red ones, instead of the black ones, then replaced them with the orange and purple. And in a year's time I'm probably gonna have to replace these ones with some new ones, perhaps the green and pink ones.
It's kinda worrying really, the joycons need to have a major update, because they break so quickly. What happens when Nintendo stop producing Switch joycons? 10 years from now if your joycons break, then that's it, you're basically fucked. Unless you _never_ use it in handheld mode and only ever use separate controllers like the Pro controller or 8bitdo ones.
So if they don't update them and make them much much more long lasting, it really is gonna be a long term worry.
They are pretty though. Nice that you can update the look of the whole console without needing to buy a new console entirely.

Also I currently own 6 PS1 controllers for a reason I have no idea why.
I went through so many Xbox 360 controllers it's ridiculous. I'm not rough with controllers and I try to keep them in good shape but man some specific parts just seem to always break. Currently having the same problem with PS4 controllers, except it's always the thumbsticks. Whatever cheap plastic they use on the contact points wears down so fast, it's like you're cutting down a tree with a blade that goes all the way around the stump.
Ease off from the not roughness more
Don't go all the way to the extreme if your in-game movement doesn't improve after certain point on the analog sticks, try to avoid friction
Use d-pad for menus if the game supports it
Oh and try to not share your own controller IF possible
