At this point it’s more about the party’s origins because on social issues the RN is left of Macron (considered center right). It’s only on immigration that they can be considered conservatives.
I don't pretend to understand politics in France or anywhere else in Europe, but what this suggests to me is that people are sick of do-nothing, impotent centrism. We have serious, existential problems that are becoming worse, and neoliberal capitalism has no real answers to any of those problems. Saagar is right that the elite - liberal or not - are extremely unpopular around the world.
Its not "impotent" centrism. 99% of politics in Europe is literally about immigration.
In France it is about immigration and stupid climate laws.

It's a hodge podge group of Feminists, Islamists, and other groups. Each group thinking that they well inherit the keys to the kingdom. Finally, you have the normal serfs that provide all the labor and taxes that finance the other divisions. They are nationalists, and just want order and the ability to feed and shelter themselves. The serfs have finally realized that the other divisions have reached sufficient power to bend them over the couch and ream them good.

The current development we see in many countries is mainly driven by social issues. Most people have a hard time to keep up with the drastic changes of the last 10-15 years. Cost of living is skyrocketing whereas many people don't see a similar increase in their paychecks. The old "promise" that a decent education or hard work will at least give you a good start in life also turned out to be a lie. So you have a young generation, which is statistically fucked. But you also have many older people who never had a lot of money but are now struggling even more. So you have people in both age cohorts, which are becoming more and more desperate. The absurdity comes into play when you consider how this is discussed in the public. Young people are told that the old people are expensive and changes for a better future are impossible because older generations need so much money for their retirement. Older people are told that there is not much money left to support them because the young generation feels too entitled, they are not willing to work anymore but instead focus on protesting and changing the world. This has been going on for many years. However, people start to realize that the problems are becoming bigger and no one actually offers any kind of solution - and most importantly - they realize that they have been lied to for many years. Now what's the solution? Well, populists found a way to profit from this political climate by finding one common enemy: immigrants. This has been going on for a while now so that even established political parties more and more adapt the language and also the policies of those populist parties which somehow normalized the anti-immigrant sentiment in many countries already. The sad truth about this is that the focus on immigration will not change anything for anyones daily life. Less immigration or stricter immigration control will not magically enable people to buy a house or see increases in their paycheck or drive the cost of living down ...

Macron was never compromising, most of his legislation was on the right and the part on the left was never significantly important for the voters. He's often found common ground with LR (historical main party on the right) but rarely with LFI (radical left party) which is thecurrent main player on the left.

I'm french btw. The RN is a party founded by a bunch of Waffen SS and collaborationists and it is and has always been far right. That's why everyone that isn't RN are setting their quarrels aside to crush them at the polls next sunday. The fact that you align with the RN makes you squarely far right.

"Far right" and "far left" do not designate the least popular positions. They simply designate the positions with the least amount of compromise on each side or the left/right in their "purist" forms. The far right doesn't stop being far right when it becomes popular nor does the far left.
