    @akm3014 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I believe this discussion lacked important nuance and Arnaud Bertrand did not do a good job explaining things in order to understand the results and what it means for the lower chamber of the French Parliament:
    Firstly, we need to understand after the first round, the centre-right coalition (made of 3 parties) led by Macron and the far-left coalition (made up of 4 parties) each removed their candidates who finished third in a district were the RN finished first. So, they voted for each other candidate who finished second in the district. So, in some districts, in the head-to-head matchup the candidate from the RN, the right-wing parti finished just 60 votes behind.
    Secondly, in terms of the composition of the electorate, according to public official data: RN and other centre-right parties won 41.5% of votes in total while Macron coalition won 23.1% and all left and centre-left parties won about 28%. So, the electorate is in fact leaning to the right. Which mostly why Macron chose most of his Prime Minister from the right side of the political isle so far. Furthermore, the current minister of the interior (the 2nd most powerful position in government after the PM) is advising Macron to appoint a PM from the right by working with the centre-right parti in a new coalition for the next 12 months.
    Thirdly, I was the Krystal will gleeful about the manifesto from the far-left coalition like increasing the minimum age or building homes etc. Her gleefulness is the result of complete ignorance of the cost of such measure. For example, on increasing the minimum wage, here in France, in order to increase the worker earning the minimum wage by 100 euros, the total cost of the employer is in fact 500 euros. That is because, the minimum wage does not incur social contributions (which helps pay for social security and retirement here in France). So, again for each net increase by 100 euros, cost in fact 500 euros to the employer. And for your information, about 26% of workers earning minimum wage work for small businesses (10-50 employees). Those include bakers, restaurants workers, etc but most of them have no margin at most businesses stay open because those owners choose not to pay themselves any salary. I know because I did that for 2 years while I started a tech startup. What is even crazier is that this coalition manifesto is proposing to use taxes to pay for the increase in minimum wage.
    So while in theory it sounds good in practice increasing the minimum wage is projected to kill about 18% of small businesses.
    There are other proposals in their manifesto, like “climat change migration visa” with no proper accounting of how they’re going to pay for such plans which they say will cost 300 billion annually.
    I would like to talk about that with you in more details

Decades later, Marine le Pen decided to change its name to get some ''respectability'' and erase those very connoted notions. But she chose Rassemblement National, which was the name of a French political party foinded in 1942, the Rassemblement National Populaire. Its goal was to collaborate with the fascists z'd create a united nazi Europe. Another founding member of the original Front National was a member of that party. This is not a coincidence. We all think xenophobia and fascistic tendencies are bad, but a huge part of France seems to think that to be the solution. They should start to take these concerns seriously on the left too. Why do people vote le Penn? What has driven these people into het hands. Because just like Geert Wilders in the Netherlands 12 years ago these people were called insane. But their rhetoric hasn't changed and their concerns seem to have come true in the eyes of a lot of people. It seems we are asking the wrong questions instead of why are these people racist ask why are you so concerned, what threatens you? Because their concerns are real, these are real people, don't ignore them

    • @threecards333
      @threecards333 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Exactly. This is a constant issue with left leaning commentators: they just brand the far right voters as racist, xenophobic fascists, rather than trying to figure out why they are that way and how to make them not be that way. I am very pro-immigrantiom myself but a lot of people in my camp are so blind as to why there is opposition. If you claim you are a xenophile but does not work towards integration then you might as well be xenophobe.
