He actually suffers from horrible stage fright, and around the time of these performances I think, both depression and addiction problems. The uber-cocky stage persona is his way of getting through a performance (he spoke very movingly about this on Stephen Fry's fascinating programme The Secret Life of a Manic Depressive).

Full respect to Robbie, he's a talented lad and down to earth. I can remember playing non-league football against him, Sunday league stuff in Stoke, about 25 years ago - he was already mega famous, but was just one of the lads who wanted a game of footie. He was carrying a bit of beef in those days and I remember him colliding with my brother in law, who was also a big lad, proper 50-50 tackle with both of them ending up on the floor. He just got up and said, 'its like two whales colliding, init?' As most people say, the arrogance thing is just a stage act, I mean, how else are you supposed to get up and sing in front of 100,000?

Robbie Williams was a member of Take That. Huge huge boy band in the 90s, known for actually having good songwriting skills within the band. Robbie left the band and went solo, and became one of the biggest musicians of the millennium here. Take That reformed without Robbie in 2005 and were extremely successful for a second time. Robbie and the band have since got over the bad blood between them and seem to get along quite well. Robbie is known for being a showman with amazing live performances.
I went to see Hugh Jackman live and Robbie was there as a guest, they both gave awesome performances.

Robbie is an incredible showman and always seems super confident on stage, but at this time in his career, he was suffering with bipolar as well as other mental health issues and was dealing with alcoholism and prescription drug addiction. Thankfully he is clean and happy now, but considering what he went though, the fact that he was able to sing, write songs and perform like this, is a testament to his talent. Legend

Robbie Williams is one of the most down to earth popstars you'll ever see. There's a lot of ironic detachment in his performance and he does play up to the 'douche' character a bit. His performance at Knebworth is legendary, not only because the songs were great, but also because he made out with a female fan on stage in front of everyone, haha.

None of them really cracked the US market, don't think they were very bothered, but are all massive in UK and Europe. Try Robbie's Angels, a beautiful masterpiece and Take That's Shine, Want You Back, Giants, Patience, Everything Changes, A Million Love Songs...and that's just a start lol :)

He's from Stoke -on-Trent, 57 miles ESE of Liverpool. He was originally part of a five-piece boy-band, 'Take That' of which he was the first to leave. He has also done concert-hall type music which I believe his father used to do as well. He is very humble and honest and not scared of his own emotions. He sang in concert very shortly after the Manchester bombing, dedicatin his song "Angels" to two very yung girls who died in the blast. He lost it towards the end as emotins got the better of him. He also performed a duet with Ariana Grande in the benefit concert for the same bombing.

Robbie was reported a while back to have a few personal issues and when he gets so emotional at the end of the video, you can see he's dealing with them in front of a huge live crowd who clearly adore him. When he sings 'there's a hole in my soul, you cans see it in my face, it's a real big place' I think he absolutely means it. Glad you took back the 'douchery' comment, that was completely uncalled for but that aside, it was a great reaction at the end, as you realised what a great talent and a scintillating live act Robbie always provides. Check out 'Angels' from the same gig. That was probably his biggest hit here in the UK.

I'm so glad you're doing Robbie Williams. Robbie puts his foot in it so many times in interviews, try "Robbie Williams Compares Childbirth to his Favourite Pub Burning Down - The Graham Norton Show" to get a feel for him offstage.
To see how he opened this incredible concert try "Come Undone" from Knebworth, has a very good moment in it.
Also Let Me Entertain You from Knebworth was great if you want to see some Axl Rose energy. And "Strong" from Knebworth is worth a look.
Robbie is quite a story, had a lot of problems with drink and drugs, has a big heart, does have a lot of confidence and cockiness about his stage persona, but very emotional and caring off stage. Takes good care of his stage crew which you can see in some of his "Vloggie Williams" vlogging series on his own channel.

Well, I hope you know more about Robbie Williams now, since this was posted a year ago. You touched on his ego, so by now you probably know he has an album out called "The Ego has Landed." lol I hope you watched all of his Knebworth concert 2003. He has songs that with singing and his stage performance, will blow you away. With him, he is charismatic. He has a presence that can get that many people to do his bidding. When he says put one hand up, there they go. Two hands up, and there they go. Now, BOUNCE, BOUNCE, BOUNC! I'll bet the earth shook. You need to watch his video for one of the Bond movies. Watch the one where he is in it, not the one marketing the movie. It's called Millenium. It's funny. He like to put a lot of himself in them in his videos. You know, not take himself so seriously. Also, watch some of his interviews. One or two of them will tell you what happened with him and the Gallagher Brothers. He and Liam were good friends. It was he and Noel who didn't get along. There was a problem between he and Liam later on, but they have worked that out. The biggest problem was with he and Gary Barlow. The world is a much happier place since they mended their fences. That was sad in every way. I love them both! And never was there a better band than Take That!

@ Ahahyxdueje Oasis isn't even a solo act so why on earth are they comparing themselves to RW?????loool. Thats hilarious. The whole point is that RW a SOLO act attracted 375 000 people, Not a band. A SOLO ACT lool.

He did some great songs! Monsoon live at Knebworth is one of my favourites from him.
Angels, No Regrets, Supreme, Strong, Better Man... And Karma Killer is the ultimate break up song (although I don't think it's about a break up! Haha)

Love you guys and love Robbie! He's a bit of a national treasure here, he is known for being very cheeky and controversial. He used to be close friends with Liam before their very public feud, however they are on good terms again now. Think you would enjoy Let Me Entertain You from Knebworth, the whole show is awesome though.

He still holds the record there for the biggest crowd as an artist. Gallagher was never gonna fight Robbie. Robbie offered to fight him fot 100k for charity. Instead Robjie knocked out one of his mates at the Brit awards.

He's a Northerner. Was part of Take That. He was the clown, the naughty one. He's had a lot of addiction/depression issues. He may have been our last badly behaved Rock Star. Not the greatest voice but you believe when he sings.

He loved drugs at one stage, his stories are epic, he gets stage fright. He was in the biggest boy band of its time. He is now a happily married man with kids. Not a bad life story

@joanie3452 come off it, no one is ever prepared to be thrust into the limelight. Robbie was battling alot of demons and sadly went down some dark paths. But he got clean and better. I don't condone drug use but it's an addiction and he turned it around. Even he speaks openly about it and how rough the path was.

For a good few years around 2000 he was the biggest solo act in the UK by some distance. I think because of his boy band beginnings he gets dismissed by 'proper' music fans (whatever that means). On his earlier solo stuff there's some bona fide exceptional pop songs. Well worth a deeper dive

    • @dianeemaleu2697
      @dianeemaleu2697 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Si Regan he still is the biggest solo in the UK since 90s when it comes to achivements as he is still the biggest solo selling artist (albums) in the UK with the most Brit awards wins (18) ever LOL. And with his tours attendances and grossing worldwide. Selling 1.6 M tickets for a tour in one day? Not even MJ did that LOOL.

Robbie is from Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, England, which used to be the home of pottery and china manufacturing, his hometown is called The Potteries. He used to be in a boy band called Take that. He is tongue in cheek funny, writes great songs and is a brilliant performer.
