    Made this and I added pink beans to it and also half a pack of coconut milk powder. I followed the seasoning directions and cooking directions as posted and the results were perfect. I’ve never used the 1:1 ratio for cooking rice and this rice was perfectly fluffy ! I’ll definitely continue to cook my rice this way! I even put the foil as recommended.

    I know the video has been posted awhile ago. But I want to say I used your tips for cooking the yellow rice. The cups and rice portions along with the aluminum foil to cover the pot and let it cook for 30 minutes on low flames. I haven't cooked rice in over 15 years. I was so nervous having to cook it for Thanksgiving day. I added my own extra ingredients however My yellow rice was a success it came out perfect. Everyone complimented my rice. Thank you so much.

    My picky eater son (who doesn't like onion/peppers) never liked yellow rice until it was served by a relative who added lots of butter and lemon to the standard Vigo or Conchita spanish yellow rice recipe. Lemon is the secret for many picky kids. I love Zee's recipe, which is more to my taste (I also add a little bit of quality cooking sherry for us adults). :)

    I saw the suggestion for adding vinegar to this. My mother would add vino seco (dry wine vinegar) like Edmundo or similar from a Latin specialty grocer, but it would be like a small splash of it. Too much would make it bitter. Another suggestion that I know of that's used in arroz con pollo (yellow rice with chicken) is beer. Lighter beers like pilsners or Corona-style are better for this IMO. Thanks for the videos!

    Excellent recipe! I've been making yellow rice variations past yr using only this recipe and it turns out just toooooooo damn good! The only thing I do different is soak my rice for 15mins in water after cleaning out most of the starch(( Being East indian we do this by default. I use basmati rice. It tastes good with basic long grain rice as well as basmati rice)). Thank you v v v v v much for sharing. Today it's with beans and meatloaf. Thank you tremendously. People you've to try this. That's all I can say.

    • @user-vg8ez9cu6u

      Why soak for 15 minutes? What does that do if you already washed the rice of the starch beforehand?

    • @sarasyal
      @sarasyal 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@user-vg8ez9cu6u youre allowing the rice to absorb water and puff up a lil bit so its not only going to cook faster but it'll come out separated instead of mushy& sticking together. But do remember to handle with care after its soaked. Back home in india this is how rice is cooked/boiled. But if youre pressed for time, you could skip soaking. Check out the texture of the rice post soaking & without soaking, see what you prefer better and go with that. Sorry for the late reply.

    Like your explanation on how to make yellow Spanish rice. I am thinking on how i can duplicate the different Goya rice flavors . This knocks off the yellow spanish rice one.
    Curious if you know how to do the rest of the goya rice flavors from scratch. As always wondered on how to mimick the flavored store brand rices from scratch. Or how there created from scratch / homemade versions. Definitely do a video on this if you can.

    I feel late to the game! I made this as written with what I had. I didn't have a yellow or orange pepper so I left that out. My onions are kinda big so I only used half of one. I minced the onion and garlic super fine like she advises in the video. I also sweated them out quite a bit before adding the seasonings. Everything else I followed exactly. This is the best stovetop yellow rice I've ever made. I can't even tell there are onions and garlic in this because the pieces really did disappear into the rice, but the flavor says otherwise! Typically, I make white rice in a rice cooker and that's it because I don't usually do well with stovetop rice lol. I know my technique could still use some improvements because the bottom layer was ever so slightly dry/crunchy. This is packed with flavor and the combinations are endless! I wish I planned ahead and made a nice roasted chicken or pernil to eat with this. Fried eggs will have to do for now lol. Thanks for sharing a great recipe.

    Do you mind sharing the brand of your caldero or where you purchased it. Its so hard for me to find one that has consistent reviews. Yours is obviously a good one. Thanks so much for your recipes!

      Hey! Calderos can be tricky and part of it is how you take care of them. A few of mine are SUPER OLD (10+ years) but they still work like new because of how I take care of them. To start, I use calderos by IMUSA and ARAMCO. The one featured in this video is by Aramco and the one featured in my Sancocho video is by IMUSA. You can find them on Amazon-- but they're a tad pricey. You can also find them at Walmart and Kmart if you go to one located in Hispanic neighborhoods. A lot of mom & pop stores in Brooklyn, Queens, and Bronx also sell them. When it comes to taking care of them, I wash them thoroughly with soap and water and I'll polish them after every 3 uses or after a heavy dish like Oxtails or Sancocho with a brillo or SOS pad and some bars keep. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching :)

      Thanks so much. I promise this is my last question, lol but do you prefer the traditional aluminum or the new nonstick coated calderos I see on their sites?

    • @Chefzeecooks
      @Chefzeecooks  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha no worries. I personally prefer the aluminum ones. It's more traditional. They're harder to maintain but they give your stews the classic color! Now in general, for non-stick pans, I always go with Calphalon. They have a non-stick hard anodized line which will still give your food a nice sear but also allows for the ease of non-stick. Bonus Tip: Keep a look out for Macy's. They always have the Calphalon sets on sale during major holidays. Bed, Bath & Beyond will usually match whatever sale they have going on. It's what I like giving as a house-warming gift.
