INGREDIENTS:
* 2 cup medium grain rice
* 1 can small red beans
* 2 & 1/2 cups water (2 & 3/4 cup of water for long grain)
* 1 tbsp oil
* 1/4 cup bacon, chopped
* 2 tbsp sofrito
* 2 tbsp tomato sauce
* 2 tsp pimientos
* 1 tbsp stuffed olives
* 1 packet Sazón
* 1 packet pork Sazón (sub for extra all-purpose seasoning)
* 1/2 tsp all-purpose seasoning (sub for regular salt)
* 1 can small red beans, drained

I lived in Puerto Rico for a year for work, and arroz con habichuelas was my FAVORITE dish! My Puerto Rican colleagues would lovingly tease me about it because I would eat it often.

This recipe was amazing. I did tweak it a little, instead of bacon I used spam. I used 2 cups of chicken broth and 1/2 cup of water. So good. My husband make me scrape the pot so he could take the rest to work!!! Thank you 😊

I'm sure the flavor is good. I've pulled back on all the jamon flavor and gone back to the way my ma did it..real achiote and roasted bones for my base. Fresh culantro, cilantro and thyme. Just regular rice. Very nice and very quick, your recipe. Thank you.
Sounds delicious! Wish I could try it! I’m curious about the addition of thyme since it’s not a staple seasoning in our cooking. What about oregano?

yum! I tried this out today and plan to add it to our Puerto Rican Christmas meal honoring my mother-in-law who was Puerto Rican. I love that the spices are there but not over-powering. Of course you could add more if you want! I did not make Sofrito but instead put Better Than Boullion Sofrito flavor in the water. I also used plain tomato sauce. It is perfect!

The is the best recipe on youtube! I can’t believe I can make it and it taste this good! It’s amazing. I have use med grain and long grain and play with the seasoning like adding 2 seasoning packets and oregano, I use smoked turkey sausage, all comes all great!

Hi Mari, I just made your rice and beans. I couldn't find the ham seasoning but I added the other ingredients and it came out great. I think I ate half the jar of olives while I was cooking. I will still work on finding the rest of the seasonings. Thank you so much.

I recently moved in with my husband and have been learning/perfecting my rice, and I watched your video on how to cook white rice for a few months of trial and error(mainly because I'm trying to eyeball everything on my first try making rice🤦🏽♀️😂) but I've finally perfected my white rice that I now feel comfortable enough to attempt making yellow rice now. If you have the right rice to water ratio you can take your spoon place it in the middle of the pot and the spoon will stand still by itself that's when you know you perfected it

I simply adore Arroz Rico! During the pandemic, I could not find Goya rice, anywhere. One day, I stumbled across the Rico brand and decided to try it. I have not looked back. It's super clean and cooks up beautifully. The price is great, as well. My family is from Aguadilla, so I grew up eating all of the typical Puerto Rican cuisine. Great recipe! Saludos desde nueva jersey. :)
