Sectioning the wheel well 4 inches

- A lot of people suggested that we section the entire car... nah, but we are going to extend the wheel opening 4 inches. Don't think this has ever been done on a 1950 Ford. It will appear like the quarter panels have been sectioned but it will also allow us to get the back wheels off with ease. Ever since we lowered the suspension we haven't been able to get the back wheels off without flattening them 😝

Full fender skirts would be a great look!
You’d have the best of both worlds, easy access to remove the wheel and the lead sled vibe.
Cruiser Skirts would really work
I was thinking the skirt would be really nice on it when he was cutting the lip off the fender also .
I enjoy your work. Watch you all the time. My opinion only, I think the top chop is too severe for me. Original body shoebox cars are probably rarer than a well done Lead Sled.
It's called a Compass. One with 2 points is called a Divider . A protractor is on of those half moon things.
Mechanical compass technically
Compass, there is a protractor built in to the speed square though.
it's a pa-tractor pa-🚜. 😀
Cutting the wheel opening larger was a good idea. Love everything you have done so far. Nate is pluggin' along as usual with his excellent mechanical ability and Jolene is working that camera like a pro. So enjoyable to watch
I have to admit at first when you started the bumper modification I thought it would look horrible. I gotta stop judging so quickly because that rear bumper is awesome looking. Great job and even though I didn't comment on the rear bumper during the modification process I stand corrected in my thinking process. I guess your da man with da plan and it's shaping up to be a very cool ride. I like that you opened the rear wheel openings. It's a better look as well as making it more functional removing the tire.
I mentioned this a couple days ago. When someone is grinding in the background, that so impacts my hearing aids so that I have to mute. That eliminates Brad’s comments which, to me, are 40% of the program. I m learning so very much, thank you.
Cutting those openings is fine if your making g it easier to change a tire but it totally changer the "tail dragger" or "sled" look your going for.i know you wanted the back lower and opening that up like you did does the opposite illusion wise.i think you REALLY need to make skirts now,use the piece you cut out for the bottom or cut another fender and do a radioused lip to give you a Lil more room and a great old skool look and helps with a rounded skirt which looks best on a tail dragger, all easy stuff for that look you want
Cutting the wheel well out is not sectioning the car...when you section the car you remove a piece from front to back maybe 2 - 3 inches...and it makes the body thinner....
That's right
Or wider too
To section it you would move the factory opening up 4 inches. Not cut a new opening. Edit. After reading this I didn't explain it correctly. Sectioning involves cutting the car into sections and removing a portion then welding it back together. Like he did on the roof.
Well that's the type of car he's building,a kustom Kar lead sled
I do understand what you mean by sectioning. Would have been great if Chad did it all the way around the sides. It must be hard work, but well worth doing if you're building a classic custom. I am not in this field. Learning as I go.
Bubble scurts no cruser scurts yes
I think using the cut out for removable skirts wood be cool !!!
Sounds like a good idea to me.
lol maybe you guys should buy Nate and Doug a pair of them brunt boots just because
That's a great idea
I like the results of the rear bumper treatment and the opening of the rear wheel wells is an improvement. The visual effect seems to make it look lighter and faster.
There are channels with 2 million subs who can't get 7000 people to watch a stream. This channel is great!
Evening Chad,Jolene,Fina,Doug, and Nate. Car is awesome!! Great show!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
You fooled me with the top chop and done a great job on the roof and the rear bumper and I like the way you are doing the wheel wells, I have have built a half a dozen custom cars in the 1990s and most of them I chopped the top and I am currently building a new custom ride for my self keep up the good work it helps to inspire me to work on my project
WOW! This brings back along dorment memory! I did exactly the same treatment to a 1955 FORD tudor in 1969. Took 2days as I remember. No mig just oxy torch, helper ($1.00/hr.) to cool with a wet rag and a big heavy grinder. But the result was the same. Never did another one. Your rear bumper treatment is beautiful. Good job. But one suggestion, for a long experience, start working on a bench to delay the advent of "bodyman's knees" Good luck.
How COOL is that rear bumper. This is why Chad is one of the best, if not the best in the world at car customization. Good onya mate.
Thanks Dave - see you in Aussie land next month 🇦🇺
I agree , but his moderators on his channel SUCK !!! Especially GMC Joe Sousa … hurt is little feelers and he belittles you like he is superior ! I was a long time subscriber , but because of him Not anymore!!!
Agreed but would like to see those bumper bars between the light and bumper to see what it looks like
Nicely said mate
Aye.aye compadre
30 seconds into the video- Chad explains the idea --> me "I don't see this being a good idea"
20 minutes into the video - Chad has a look at the finished cut --> me "Dang, that looks great!"
Every video here, every time - I envy the imagination/ability to see the finished product that Chad must have in his head...
Great work.
I think those taillights would look amazing with a bottom teardrop sconts all the way to the top of the piece you added to the top of the rear bumper ..I am liking this build more and more ..Great Job!!
That tool is called a compass Chad. A protractor is a tool for measuring the degrees of an angle.
Your 50 Chevy is looking cool!
You are wrong. It's called a protractor
@@richardburro770 agree to disagree on that one.
Look it up on google. Look at pictures of both. IT'S A PROTRACTOR 100%
@@richardburro770your google is broken i think my friend.
That tool is a divider when it has two "dry points" or spikes, a compass when it has a spike and a pencil lead for drawing circles.
A protractor is a half o full circle ruler type for measuring angles.
Compas y transportador in spanish, just incase you want to bring the debate to another language.😂
Regards and be well!
I take it you never went to school!
Put a pair of 57 Merc turnpike cruiser skirts on it now! Then you can change the tire by just taking the skirt off! Looking good fellow!
wheel arch section was the way to go love the look
I believe that putting a brow over the headlights would improve the look dramatically. Similar to the brow on a 56 Chevy. The extensions look like they angle down from where they attach. There looks to be lots of room for a brow without a problem 🇨🇦☮️
THIS EXACTLY. ITS A MUST.
Yep...what l was thinking too.
I sent a photo of eyebrow on a Buick Hope he thinks about it
'55 Crown Victoria
The 55 Nomad has eyebrows that continue down the sides, too.
Thank you everyone great chat - another great session - I’m still loving it - Regards
Everyone is talking about the Nate lets not forget to mention my boy Doug he busts his butt helping Chad and truly knows what he's doing when he's there so give a shout out for Doug as well .Doug keep on keeping on my friend.
Thank for showing the bumper. It looks real good. That tool is called a compass in drafting, it also has a fancy name.
Nailed it. Looks like it was always meant to be that way.
Chad you’re the man and you’re right your queen is Jolene.
Can’t wait to see the Bugatti get done excitement.
Back bumper looks spectacular. It flows. Maybe try the same treatment on the front bumper.
I like the higher wheel arch, looks a lot better.
He would have us believe that the Ford Motor Company designed a car that couldn't have its flat tire changed with the original bumper Jack.
I can't believe how fast Chad fabricats some really tough jobs opening and sealing up the opening is not an easy job, to do it right takes a lot of work, yet Chad knocks it out like a day at the park.
Hang on to the pieces of the wheel opening that you just removed. Some of the later "50's and 60's cars had wheel opening inserts similar to to these pieces which dressed up rear wheel openings like half-skirts. It may be easier to change the rear tires but you also compromise the lead-sled look, as well.
Totally agree. Wheel skirts would be AWESOME!
Yeah man, sad about this
It's a compass. If you lift the car from the bumper with the original jack, does it raise the body high enough to change the tire?
When you jack from the frame the whole car lifts equally.
In my mind i can say im enjoying this build and the superb camera footage by the beautiful queen jolene thanks folks i look forward to watching the process daily
I really like what you do! You are a great fabricator!! I wish I could get a channel going like that. I was recently laid off from Multi Family and trying to figure out what to do. I have restored a couple of cars, last one being a 1972 Volkswagen Beetle a few years back but did not film any of it. You are so lucky to have a fiancé like Jolene that helps you and supports you. She is one in a million. I watch every one of your videos. Thank you for doing what you both do, it inspires people. God Bless
A protractor can be used to determine degrees of an angle. A compass is used to make circles or radius, dissect angles or, in your case, transcribe a line.
I watch every day. Jolene, you do a phenomenal job. Chad and your team are amazing.
I was wrong the 50 is definitely starting to look like a true 50's custom great job chad and crew
Thanks again for your time and efforts in this videos and all videos ❤
I think Jolene should set the other stationery camera on what is happening in the engine compartment.❤❤or other things of interest on her channel.
Nathan is 6-ply soft, for agreeing with the boss...lol
When I think about sectioning a car, I think about taking 3 or more inches out of the full length of the center of the body and doors.
That is what "sectioning" really is, taking 3-4" out of the center of the body all the way around. It's a lot of work.. Chad just raised the wheel opening.
Turn the piece of fender you cut out into a fender skirt. That way you can the car looking low and be able to take it off to change tire.
No no no no no fender skirts!!
Sounds like an excellent idea, very interested to se the end result.
This old sled is transforming into a masterpiece before our eyes, Chad is a design genius. It's so awesome he was able to figure out what his natural talent was and then make the most out of it. It's a huge success story that is very inspirational to give the common guy hope that things can get better with hard work and dedication.
I'm not trying to be critical. A protractor is a half circle with degrees marked on it. A compass is what you're using. If it has two metal tips it's called a divider
I don't think you are sectioning a quarter panel, you're raising wheel opening four inches?
You are correct. He is not sectioning he is just cutting out a piece. There are a number of videos out there that show how and why a proper sectioning is done. According to Chad all of the older broncos that had the rear wheel wells cut out for tire clearance were the sectioned. Nope, just a big chunk cut out.
I agree, if he sectioned the quarter, he would have to section the whole car.
I think he means he's removing a section of the quarter.
That would be a reasonable statement.
Whatever he's doing the car is looking good.
Which way are is the best or right? Which gives the best results?
Clueless once again. Telling his audience he’s sectioning the quarter panel. He’s cutting the wheel opening to make it bigger.
Yes, you are right. And the rear bumper isn’t frenched either. He just welded a piece of metal over the bumper 😮😂
The scribing tool is a compass, Chad.
Not nitpicking here but, I agree with another commenter. In my days - 1950s, 1960s, what you are doing is "re radiusing" the wheel opening. "Sectioning " is cutting a slice out of the entire body side, from front to rear. It's doing to the lower body similar to "chopping " the top.
Nice work Chad, on the back wheel wells, I say it needs the clip on splat's over the back wheels to give it's slick look . awesome stuff 👍👍👍
So many custom touches on one car. Outstanding!
Chad, Jolene and Nathan, Today's video was very informative. I really appreciate your idea in enlarging the wheel opening. It gives the Shoebox Ford a sleeker side view. Nate is a top flite mechanic. With tons of real experience around antique cars. Greetings !!! From Saint John NB. I'm really appreciate Brunt Boots providing Chad with a new pair of Boots. To replace the sneakers with a safety boot.
My old man did same custom work, absolutely cool. Brings back memories.
I believe the “protractor” is called a compass
A compass is for drawing circles or arches a protractor is for figuring angles it’s a half moon tool with degrees on it normally transparent so you can see the line
Love the wheel arch opened up I hate fender skirts and cars lowered hiding the tire .
Looks nice with the open wheel well. Waiting to see what tomorrow brings.
Yes wheelwell looking better now.
I really like the faux French edition in bumper look and the wheel arch openings sectioned looks great too 👍
The wheel well looks lot better with it cut out keep up the good work Chad and Jolene Nathan
This is revolutionary in the history of Hot Rodding. Move over Barris, Big Daddy Roth and Winfield. Respect to you, your shop and your new masters assisting you.
Sounlike a good plan Go for it Chad 👁 🐅 👌
The trenched bumper and wheel wells look great!
Goodonya ! unfiltered and the real working man real . Dam creative you are son .
lol you cut the wheel opening. You didn’t section anything, not the wheel well and definitely not the quarter panel 😂 having said that, it looks good
Nice job as always Jolene 👍
Hey Fina❣️
Edit: myself I would have bagged it and left them alone
Chad is a very good teacher and I sure appreciate this about him 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love the cut out of the wheel well wow looking good the whole car it's all coming together for sure at first I didn't care for the tail lights but I think things are really coming together good job Chad the woman says you hit the nail on the head 🤯
You could make the section you are cutting off clip back on afterwards or make an eyebrow if you want it to look lower, but still remove the wheel. Love watching your builds Chad.
Great watching Chad working his magic these old cars.
Now you need skirts for that classic Chad. Jolene good video!
HE SURE LOVES CRAWLING AROUND ON THE GROUND IN THE DIRT
i think Chad needs hearing ads he can never here Jolene most of the time he says what a lot
I believe that is a compass keep up the good work 😊
Extremely talented Chad. Pleasure to be able to watch you work each day. Shout out to Nate and your Queen Jolene!
I definitely like the rear bumper can't wait to see what color paint you come up with . Hope your feeling better Joelle.
Rear wheel opening looks awesome
Taking great shape !
Love the Site. The tool you were looking the name of is a Compass . The half circle with all the degrees 1-180 is the protractor.
Wheel opening looks great
I like it looks good just one cut well done! You are a Pro!!
Just need to Jack the car up and support the body. Let the rear suspension hang and the wheel come out
Ed-del-brock, l actually met Sr. Years ago at a show in Toronto he’s still alive in his 90’s. Classic hot rod vibe.
That bumper looks really cool I've learned some good things watching you
You can make removable skirts
Since the wheel opening is larger
You can remove skirt to change tire
Easily now.
The bumper LOOKS very nice!,
This car would look great if you painted the body purple and the same white you used on Elvis for the roof. It's turning out beautifully, almost could be a matchbox car!
Check out Tad Hirai's kustom 50 Ford. It's purple and white as well, just not chopped and different customizations.
Car's looking great. You are the artist, trust yourself.
It is all good Chad and Jolene, see you tomorrow Lord willing!
Section the doors and front fenders. Great videos.
Oooh, the bumper looks good !
Looking good so far! The whole look is growing on me. I really like the frenched rear bumper. The rear wheel openings look good if you graft in a lip from a 55 chev, or an 80's Ford pickup bedside.
My drawing tool set refer to that as a compass just not the direction finding type!
I was hoping for this
Amazing what opening up those back wheelwells did to the overal look of the car. What a surprise.
🐓in the 🏠. Hello Chad, Jolene , Nate & FINA I vote YES for SKIRTS👗
When did the gas door get molded in? Inoticed its gone a coupla videos back.
I like the sectioned wheel opening. Great job.
Like henry ford said you can have it any color you want as long as it's black
Rear bumper looks awesome
Looks awesome Chad. Top idea.
Metal Flake Paint Job !!!!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
