In this first breakdown we're going to talk Manny & Camilla Noceda raising Luz, it's contrast to the Wittebanes and then a handful of theories including the very first golden guard, Luz's Palismen, and Luzura's confirmation!

god, i could write an essay about camila and how she was wrongly accused of abuse. its not abuse, tbh, so much as it is her being a victim of social control. its sad esp when this same scenario happens a Lot, esp with poc.

This was probably one of my favorite revelations from the new episode. Even without these details, I wouldn't really classify it as "abuse," but it was nice to see a whole new dimension to Camila.

In a discord server someone had an interesting theory about Camilla. In Camila’s nightmare, her dream was being filled with water. They said that Manny died in something water related. They believe this because of the fact because of how quick Camilla was to act and save Hunter, even before Luz. Plus the fact that she sounded so determined as she said “Move.” It’s an interesting theory that Camilla acted so quick to save Hunter because she couldn’t save her husband in the past. If this turned out to be true then holy shit the grief and guilt Camilla must’ve felt.

@@bobthebacon3163 I mean, I doubt it. That's not usually what happens after a near drowning. Manny dying of cancer works a lot better, and is more relatable to the target audience (I have know multiple kids who lost a parent to cancer even growing up). The water in the nightmare was most likely metaphoric... Camilla feeling "underwater" in her life. She is the one drowning from the stress of raising a daughter on her own after losing her husband. That's an extremely common metaphor for that situation.

i could see the long body of a snake, the sharp ears/horns of a cat, and the wings of a bat, and maybe some feathers or claws in there to represent her ties to the clawthorn clan- eventually culminating into a serpentine dragon

This episode was just a roller coaster I loved the Halloween thing so much the costumes the possession was just peak and I definitely cried at the end

@@br2147 Yep. Also thinking about it when Hunter saw Caleb's face in the mirror (S3 Ep1), Caleb wasn't wearing the blue coat. He's haunting people over the injustice of having his coat stolen.
Personally I think belos had a mental breakdown when he killed Caleb as he went chasing after him when Caleb was taken to boiling isles by Evelyn , Philip presumably risked his life in the boiling isles as the isles is hazardous to humans by nature ,so when he saw that caleb went to the isles willingly and from Phillips point of view abandoned him , he must have had a breakdown and murdered him in a rage.
1:30 i feel like the earlier hate on Camilla was more because of a lack of info rather than because we saw her made like, a singular bad decision. The fact that they fleshed her out so much in the little time they had was honestly more than we could have hoped for.
I am seeing no one talking about Hunters eye color switch from pink to brown after Flapjack heals him?? It means Hunter is potentially human/witch now! He can do all the things he wanted to do!

I had a feeling that Flapjack's death was going to happen, but it still hurts. Like I said, this needed to happen for Hunter to completely break free of Belos' influence. Flapjack bound himself with Hunter’s heart. His soul is now one with Hunter’s.

I love the fact that the first thing you brought up was Camila's story, I know its easy to overlook what she has done for the series with all that has been going on with the major characters, so thank you, her dream scene had me tearing up!
Also, regarding the last theory, I've always been on board with the "Luz is Azura" theory since the concept of time travel had been introduced, and I fully wanna see it unfold ✨️

Luz's mom went with her to the boiling islands
The only thing missing is that in the end she is the one who saves both worlds and destroys the last piece of Belos by stepping on it, everyone on the islands finds out and congratulates her. They congratulate her so much that they want to make her their new queen/empress and and Luz becomes another Disney princess
Nice sweet ending, coulda worked in any other series, but owlhouse is more or less grounded in reality and Luz's mom is a nurse. There's no way she can rule over the boiling ilse's plus I'm pretty sure that there are laws in place to decide the next ruler once the current one dies

What they did with Camila’s story was so important in my opinion. I’ve never seen a kids show go this in depth about the dynamics between parent and child. If I saw this when I was a kid I feel like it would have changed the way I saw my parents entirely. They humanize her, and it shows the audience that parents can and do make mistakes, but that doesn’t always mean that they’re against you. I hope it’s addressed more at some point in the ending. Seeing clear communication between them after all of this building would feel so worth it.
I think the emperor's coven theme is directly linked to Gravesfield, granted that the crest is literally on Hunter's Golden Guard uniform. Making the emperor's coven almost a personal army against the witches and demons of the isles, in a sense making him a "Witch hunting general".
Caleb might've been the creator of some mask that would later be reused as the golden guards, then again we can't really confirm that with the info we have atm. If so, he'd likely use it to play a guardian role to his little brother or used it when the two of them played together.
I see the Owl deity as something connected to Evelyn directly. Granted that Dell Clawthorn made the house, it's likely that the deity was worshiped by the Clawthorns or at least acts as a family crest of sorts. A being that came from the stars, much like the Titan seemed to as depicted in murals, could play a role in stopping the Collector.
I think Evelyn was the one who built the original towner behind the Owl House and that hooty was a part of it long before Eda or Dell came around. Specifically, I doubt he's a "bug demon" like he claims to be since his likeness has been seen in Eda's fighting, clearly taking on a wooden appearance. Leading me to believe that Hooty was made by Evelyn(?) and potentially linked to the Owl deity featured in the same house that exists within.
So yes, I believe Hooty is low-key the new god of the Boiling Isles and that only Hootsifer has the right to take on the title of Emperor. After all, magic is running out and we'll need some celestial being to bring that cosmic power back down to the children of the Titan.
I mean, have you looked at Hooty, he's infinite, can remove his skin, and can seemingly organize and bring forth whatever things he's eaten. King Just hatched, he's not ready to rule just yet. Not sure if Hooty is ready for that sort of commitment, so hopefully whoever takes up power spreads it out quite a bit. (I'd vote Raine for president, just saying.)
Concept: Hooty, Raine, and various others rule as a regent council until King is old enough (and probably stay to help when he is, bring some democracy to the Boiling Isles).

Camilla and Vee were the unexpected stand outs of this episode, Camilla actively wanting to go to the Demon Realm to help Luz and her temporary adopted children was so shocking to me. Learning about the book had me crying so much, and Vee's new look is soo good, it was so nice to see her embrace a look she can be proud off. Phenomenal episode and I am so excited for what's to come. I'm just so sad there is only 2 episodes left to go, cancelled to soon.
I called it! I knew that the whole Possessed Hunter plot line would be in this special’s climax!

Disney Channel has had a helluva weekend, haven't they? The 100th episode of Raven's Home, multiple episodes of Villains and Violet on Disney Plus with huge storyline developments AND the first out of three Owl House specials! I definitely know that this season shortage is gonna inspire even more fanfic that takes place on Earth!

I was watching the Owl House again and noticed something I don't know if it's already been mentioned. There's a welcome sign to Gravesfield that has the exact same symbol as the one on the back of the Golden Guard's cape giving more proof that the Golden Guard may have been Caleb once. Just thought I'd put this here in case no-one noticed :)
My thoughts on the first The Owl House Special Thanks to Them, I love this first episode, and I am impressed with all the work Dana Terrace and her writing team put into this episode despite their limited time and how it works to make a satisfying episode. It is a testament to Dina Terrence and her writing team's skills in them putting so much of their previous storyline into this episode and seeing it naturally progress without it being rushed and feeling unnatural.
I'm going to be real as much as I love this episode; I am disappointed that we did not get a third season to explore so much more of this world and the characters.
So much interaction Camila could've had with the Luz friends (the Hexsquad), especially Amity and Hunter, though her relationship with the other teens is just as meaningful. Amity's mother sucked, and that's the nicest I can say about her, and Hunter never had any family other than his horrible uncle; again, that's the nicest I can describe his uncle. Camila could've been the mother figure they both needed in their lives, especially with Amity dating her daughter; seeing how serious Luz and Amity's relationship is, Amity could practically be family already. The time passes montage where we see the Hexsquad experience the human world could've been the first half of the season. Again it's a testament to the writing team's skill that they were able to fit the time passes montage that allowed us to see the witch teens experienced the human world for a bit.
Luz Noceda coming back to her old school could've been an interesting idea. I recognize some of the side characters in her class from the first episode flashback of why she got into trouble. It could've been interesting seeing her relationship with her old classmates, especially with the fact that Vee had been impersonating her. And there are those two classmates that approached her; I love them, two new students that actually liked and accepted Luz, and there the fact that they are to first human teens to accept her as who she is. Tragically, we're likely never gonna see those teens again; I would've loved for them to become Luz friends.
On Jacob Hopkins's appearance and fate, fans suspected that he would team up with Emperor Belos. As much as I would've loved to see that, I see Jacob Hopkins's fate being reduced to conspiracy theories no one believes and his ego costing him his job as a perfect punishment. Jacob Hopkin Being also reduced to a nuisance is also a perfect way to send off that character since this is someone who has so much pride in himself.
But as much as that sucks, I'm going to enjoy the three specials we got and try not to be bitter, except at the people who shorten this season.
Now onto the stuff, we got that I'd love.
I love what they did with Camila Noceda. A minor group of the fandom believes that she's a bad parent. I never saw it; in the first episode, she was genuinely concerned about how Luz's behavior was both getting her into trouble and keeping her from making friends. Camila's concern for her daughter was the one that was only legitimate; she never judged her daughter or harshly told her that she needed to be normal. Instead, Camilla told Luz that while she loves her daughter's creativity, it's just getting out of hand. Camilla also said that while she loves how her daughter expressed herself, but if she can't separate fantasy from reality, she'll need to go to reality check summer camp. Later, when Camila was talking to Luz about going to camp, she pointed out that her fantasy world was holding her back and that if she had any friends, and the camp was an opportunity to make new friends. In Camila's next major appearance, she showed concern when Vee, disguised as her daughter Luz was throwing away Luz's favorite things. That shows that Camila was not against her daughter's interest or weird behavior; she just wanted her daughter to tone it down. I remember how Camila reacted when she learned the truth. Camila admitted to her daughter that she was barely holding it together, though she admits that she's happy that it appears Luz has matured. But when Luz let it slip that she chose to stay in another world, shock Camila asked if Luz was trying to live out a witch fantasy but then asked if her daughter hated living with her that much. Camila asked her daughter to promise her to stay here, telling Luz that she did not mean to drive her away and things would be different. That shows that while Camila was understandably shocked and angry, she blamed herself and wanted to fix her behavior so she would not lose her daughter.
This all comes to a head in this episode. This episode reveals that Camila was actually very accepting of her daughter Luz's eccentric behavior and was truly proud and amused by her personality quirks and weird behavior. A lot of parents from animated shows and movies (I'd rather not name them) can learn a lot from Camila about being a good parent. Camila was so open-minded that she was not even concerned or embarrassed by Luz's behavior. I admit it if I was in Camila's place; I would've been a little concerned if my daughter had dug up snakeskin or used meat sausages for a Romeo and Juliet play. But then I realize Luz is not actually hurting herself or anyone. Despite my concerns, I was heartbroken and outraged by how those parents judged Camila and Luz. That scene with Camilla's principal was interesting; we learned that she was also bullied in high school, Luz's behavior is partly dealing with her grief for her father's death, and Camila was pressured into sending her to reality check camp. It's very clear that Camilla has nothing but concern and love for her daughter Luz. Camilla wants to protect her daughter Luz because she lost her husband, and it is deeply implied that she went through the things Luz is going through and that she was also an outcast with no friends. And Camila hopes by sending Luz to camp, she can have a better life and hopefully make some friends.
And on the other things, I heard someone say that Principal Hal manipulated Camila into sending Luz to Reality Check Camp. I don't believe that; from what I saw in the first episode, I think he really did have good intentions, and if you look at it from his point of view, he was easy on Luz, he could've easily expelled her, and I believe his concerns were valid. Unfortunately, he unintentionally put too much pressure on Camilla, and since she was criticized by other parents before, she unintentionally bought old wounds from her.
Learning the backstory of Philip and his brother Caleb was great. It was interesting to learn that they were both orphans and to fit into their new town, they both became witch hunters. I already guessed that Caleb was the older brother from seeing the pictures in Phillips's mind. Learning that Philip was indoctrinated into being a rich hunter at a young age to fit in with the rest of the town adds another layer of tragedy to the story, so Philip is not a sympathetic character and has lost whatever humidity he has.
The battle with Emperor Belos was amazing, and the death of Flapjack was heartbroken. I'm glad that Camilla is coming with the kids, and it's implied that she is going to accept The Boiling Isles as a part of Luz's life.
I think that Emperor Belos coming back to The Boiling Isles shows how delusional he is. Emperor Belos already used his best plan and failed, and it's unlikely he had a plan to defeat The Collector. I think Emperor Belos will likely die in the second special, and The Collector will be the main villain.
Legal action might have been threatened as Luz had at least one firework and intended to set it off in the schoolroom. Also in Connecticut it’s illegal for anyone that isn’t a licensed professional to buy fireworks and fireworks must be used in supervised settings with a fire marshal.
Sparklers and Fountains are okay though.
So Camila might have felt she had no choice as it was either the Camp or Luz would face legal repercussions for possessing a firework and intending to light it in a building and because Luz is a minority odds are high that she would be treated worse than if she was White.
I wonder if Luz's snake palisman will be winged? The egg does look like a coiled snake, as you said, with an eye, but there are large chunks of it that don't follow an exact coil, but they could unfurl into wings. Also that would nod to the bird motif and also just be additionally kick ass.
A time loop would be a bit sad, though, because they would never get to progress from that point, and potentially be cut off from the others? I remember Mighty Max ended with a time loop, though, so I have seen that before. Oh man, just imagine if the owlbeast's memory of being captured by the Collector was all part of the Owl House game... and Eda has been fighting with a part of herself the whole time... maybe she just went feral in that moment, which was how she failed to recognize it earlier.
Wow you did a really good job the only thing for me is that I think the bird on the vile of Titian blood looks more like owlbert and just further connects the idea that Caleb was in a relationship with Eda’s past relative.

I had lost my dad a few weeks before seeing this episode. Realizing that Luz got her first Azura book from her dad before he died hit me hard.
I think that Flapjack WAS Caleb’s palisman, but was carved by Evelyn as a gift to him. When Masha said Caleb was “lured” to the Boiling Isles, they showed Evelyn’s hand holding Flapjack. Maybe Flapjack was carved by Evelyn but given to Caleb to lure him in?
Now don't get me wrong the time loop in Somewhere and Elsewhere works great because it a "small' time loop in that Luz meets Philip and sends him on his journey to becoming Belos by helping him meet the Collector, with the finale time pool theory it just too much of a loop scenario in which every decision the character make is pre-destiny which goes against the message Eda says in the second episode in which if everyone always waited on a chosen one then we always be waiting and I think the time loop currently doesn't hinder that message too much but if the time loop that you theorized in the video were to come true the it undercut the we make our own paths message the show was trying to make.

the way i gasped at the owl house logo part WHAT THE HELL!! i need to watch that roundtable video, thanks for the rec >:) this video was fascinating, i still don't quite believe in the azura is luz theory but i think its mostly because that level of paradoxes makes my skin crawl, its so eerie!! T_T i do love your breakdown on the rebirth theme, how that comes into play in luz's palisman being a snake, and when you said that if luz is azura then luz's dad got to read about her adventures before he passed... that's insane and so beautiful and tragic it honestly makes me quite emotional just thinking about it. amazing video, it's so well planned and everything you said was falling into place as the video progressed, great work!

In Amphibia there is an owl/cat like God at the end and we see a lot of Amphibias references in the owl house.
My time travel theory is that Luz and Amity are going to write the books. There was a joke about grammar, another about the weird nich writing style, and the fact that Amity didn't have the last book which made Luz lend hers out.

I love mythology, and Snake theory draws a lot of inspiration from mythology (eg Hermes with his caduceus, Ascelpius with his staff, the snake eating its own tail, etc). I saw this coming since the introduction of palismen.
I always felt like amphibia spent too long in the human realm and not enough time with sasha and the rebels so I’m glad owl house only spent one in the human realm

Your theories had me in tears several times. 🤣 My son and I watch this together and LOVE it! This video was on auto play this morning while I was in the kitchen and when you were talking about how Manny left a piece of himself or pass on a piece of himself by giving moves the book and ensuring her creativity/uniqueness lives on (ok I butchered up the exact words)….I couldn’t hold back numerous tears! I am a stage Iv cancer survivor and my son was a toddler while I faced it as a single parent .I was getting to the point where they were about to tell me I failed all treatment and self-published a book for him for this exact reason. I was afraid no one would be there to talk of the real me that he knew and the lessons I wanted to teach him, a lot had to do w/spirituality and magic basically. It’s called let your spirit be, I have a FB page w/sample pages called awake in the spirit and w/one page you can see what I am talking about. I even made sure to include little balls of light to act as magic in all the forest scenes… I think you hit the nail on the head with what you said about the father and that was such a beautiful observation and was some thing I wasn’t even expecting and I didn’t even think myself upon watching that, you hit very close to home… you sound pretty young, I’m guessing you’re not a parent? Your understanding of these parents though and where they were coming from is incredible! Next you were talking about the mother. I really related when I saw the scene and the principal was trying to force her into basically thinking she had to have Luz confirm…omg, don’t I know this feeling! I’m a single mom to and my son and keeps me very busy so i’m off and dealing with these things alone and I have been in this exact situation so many times. My son is autistic and has ADHD and for some reason everyone in the situations when your child seems a little too unique- wants to batter you down and think that they have some type of I don’t know hand to play? It’s weird you constantly hear criticism and people telling you what you should do. I pulled my son to homeschool several years ago and A lot of people don’t understand that. They think along the lines like my son would need some type of conformity therapy (ABA), and The lessons I find important to teach him are just the opposite.…if I i’ve taught him to be comfortable with himself and always carry his uniqueness, creativity and child-like wonder into the world then I have succeeded.! Strong as I believe in things I’ve just wrote, I also know how it’s like to be in that situation when Camila was actually questioning herself because you just hear it so much from so many around you and the thought of not doing the right thing for your child is the worst. So once again when you were talking about all that I was in tears! Are you really understood these characters on such a deep level and seems almost understood from the level of how a parent would understand….beautiful job!! I know in my soul that Luz and Amity wrote the Azura books together! AND that they use the time pools to indirectly give them to their past selves. It would be soooo cute and cool if it were true!
This video was absolutely stellar with the theories, especially with the symbolism of the Ouroboros.
Until.. the azura theory. The Owl House has shown time and time again that TGWA is a hyper-foil to the Boiling Isles, used as a way to present roles and expectations to Luz that the BI doesn’t adhere to. Especially after ‘Any Sport in a Storm’ essentially laughed at its audience in the B plot for theorizing about Azura’s relevance to the plot, I don’t understand why TH-cam Theorists are so dead set on continuing to assume it will play any role.
Luz dawning the Azura fit as she re-enters the Demon Realm is of symbolic importance. After the months of shame and guilt, Luz enters the Demon Realm once again embracing herself for who she is. If Luz simply turns out to be the good witch Azura, that would retroactively spoil most of the show for its themes of anti-fantasy and breaking expectations, the majority of S1’s themes, and would do so much damage to the shows cohesive tone and themes that it would come within inches of ruining the show, if not just ruining it full stop.
It would also make her a chosen one through plot necessity and Luz isn't a chosen one. She's the one who fought back. She's just the one who happened to be there. She helped Philip because that's who she is and as Hunter said, anyone else could have been tricked into helping him. Luz isn't special and that's the point. Making her a legendary figure in a time loop makes her special. Luz is just a girl who wants to help people and be a hero, but she's a ordinary person.
Luz's palisemen also looks like the crystal/orb on Azuras staff when we first see her.

I agree with so many things you said on the video! I've seen other youtubers mention that maybe Camila was the fan of Cosmic Frontier, ignoring the fact that those boxes had his name on them. Also about Flapjack being Evelyn's palisman.
Just noticed in the Hollow mind episode Caleb is shown to be the one to have carved Philips creepy deer mask (almost definitely out of palistrom wood) which he then uses to absorb magic. Also right before "kid belos" transforms there's a memory that's very hard to see showing him absorbing an owl palisman.
Camila seems more embarrassed vs grieving when Gus brings out the Sci-Fi book and merch. My guess is both Manny and her were super into it and possibly met at a con. Since we don't see any pictures from this time Manny and Camila probably agreed to put cosplay and cons on the back burner for Luz. Their love for fantasy and sci-fi would rub off in different ways to Luz but never be a direct continuation of their own. With Manny's passing Camila becomes even more determined to provide for Luz resulting in her passion for Sci-Fi to be almost completely buried not out of grief but necessity. However it would fuel her support for Luz's love of Azura and fantasy. Who else but a parent that grew up a complete nerd is going to buy their daughter a sword from a con?

I have a potential theory for "The Owl House," could Luz (and humans in general) possibly be something of an amplifier for magic cast by witches? The reason I bring this up is because some of the most impressive feats (outside of Eda's) were performed with Luz either being directly involved or in close proximity to the spell being cast. Do you find this theory plausible or am I just finding something where there is nothing?

Guys, do you remember in season 2A how there was an anargram? well there's one in season 2B, it says: 'Fear the lock' which put together with season 2A makes 'seek the key, fear the lock.' and in season 1 it says: 'a witch loses at rueway' (rueway meaning regret) which could be in refrence to belos or lilith in season one, one of them losing to their regret.
The Owl House drawing influence from (and in several cases, parodying) Harry Potter is another reason why Luz having a snake as her palisman would make sense, since it turns the "evil snake" trope on its head. This also gels with Luz's 'sister' Vee being a basilisk. There isn't much precedent in mythology (as far as I know) of basilisks being shapeshifters, but they do have a strong connection to Slytherin in HP; since Vee needed to be a shapeshifter for story reasons, establishing the idea that "basilisk = shapeshifter" in S1 may have been a way to make that all work.

One thing I think lots of people miss is that the boiling isles is probably not kings father. Why? Because…
1. When we saw the flash back of king in his egg he looked as if he wasn’t far off from being born as he had developed most if not all his senses along with the fact that eda found king when he looked like he had recently hatched. And if your thinking “ what about the statues he made?”. Well we also know that a day on the boiling isles is very similar or the same time for earth as we see that proof when luz meets vee. So in theory he had hardly anything to do with would let him be able to build up to 50 a day or more. So that rules time line out.
2. If it is kings dad, how come he had died before he was even born. Because we know as a fact that the titan was dead with his skeleton showing in the dead warden era. Plus if that wasent so then how come the titans body today has decomposed most of its skin etc. for a titan that big it’s hard to imagine it decomposed that quickly.
3. If it really isn’t kings dad then where is he…

I like your theory about Luz's palisman being a snake. In the flashback to when Luz found the snake skin, some of the letters on the blocks the other children are playing with can spell out "OWL," but also, just below those, the letters spell "BOA," maybe to hint at a boa constrictor snake. I mean, maybe, right? It's as likely as anything else. 😛

when i first saw the episode i saw camilars freak to her old nerd stuff as another step hint of denial and carpmentalinsing, those memory's have her in pain, and she doesn't even want to acknowledge them
The staff of Asclepius also symbolizes medicine, curative magic.
If i recall correctly when stealing the emperor's artifact in "agony of a witch" Gus and Willow took items related to their respective magic (illusions and plants) but Luz (even if out of necessity) took the healing hat.
A snake is also deeply associated with human witchcraft and the temptation towards it (Luz going in a realm of demon to do something not accepted in the current society).
Although i am equally on par with the bat palisman theory i must say this one can be valid and personally a mix of the two animals wold be fantastic.
