Super Simple Viking Inspired Pants DIY

  • I stumbled across a super easy pattern for medieval fantasy (viking-ish) pants. These are great for LARP, cosplay, trips to the grocery store- anything you'd like!
    I used the measurements listed in the pattern, but if I were to go back and do it again, I would make the pant legs a little less poofy. You can always use the pattern as a blueprint and customize it to get the exact fit you want!
    Also, I purchased 2.5 yards of fabric for this project. It was a linen blend fabric from Joann's. They constantly have sales going on so definitely wait for one of those to scoop yours up!
    This is the drawstring I went back and replaced the faux leather with afterwards:

    Here is a link to the pattern on Pinterest, as it seems to have been removed from the Deviantart account stamped across the image:

    The triangles you cut can actually be rotated 90 degrees and sewn into the crotch and down the legs of the pants as a gusset to give you that full look in the photo! It's easier to cut it out as a diamond to not have to sew that actual crotch seam.

    Nice! This is probably the only pants tutorial/pattern I've seen that is actually simple. I'm trying to get as close to "pattern is literally just a rectangle" as possible and this is quite close!

    This was such a helpful and easy to follow video, and other than an inseam drop, it even fits plus sizes. The tip about using the cut out fabric for a gusset was awesome as well. Thank you so much for posting this!

    This is a nice clear tutorial on how to make these. If you are not wearing high boots, you can also control the legs with Viking leg wraps.

    I was looking for a tutorial for medieval pants, and this looks perfect (and quick and easy, which is important). I'm gonna get to sewing now!

    These are perfect, thank you! I'm trying to get into sewing my own clothes, and a) patterns are expensive so I love things that are easily drafted and b) when I get better at this whole thing, I think this pattern will work perfectly as the base for a design I've been dreaming up.

    I wonder if you could tie the end of the drawstring to a neodymium magnet, and use another magnet to thread the string... 🤔

    Great video, thanks for sharing! Those Rit dyes are tricky and never seem to come out the color they are supposed to, but for this the light purple actually looks pretty good!

      @ayecarlie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I usually use another brand of dye, but have heard so much about Rit dyes that I thought I’d give em a try.
      I don’t hate it either! The purple is a happy accident~

    Hi there, I just watched the video, I know that it's a couple of years old now, but just wanted to say that you can get a 'needle' specifically for doing lacing, its a bit longer than a safety pin!, I can't remember what they're called but I'm sure your local sewing supplies shop could help you out!!

    Isn't the crotch area likely to split with a design like that?

  • @chantalberenfinger6875

    How would you make the pants less poofy? I want the poof, but not as much, should I cut off some fabric on the sides? Or what would the right strategy be?

    • @ayecarlie
      @ayecarlie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Exactly that. Just make it closer to your measurements and it will have less poof. I just went for the measurements in the photo and did not incorporate my own at all so they are extra fluffy. Maybe lay a pair of pants you already own on top of the fabric and cut a few inches out all the way around them. The further out you go- the poofier the pant !
