It absolutely is. I have never understood people who don't eat leftovers. I grew up eating leftovers, it was normal then. Now as an adult, I deliberately make extra, I plan for leftovers. Leftovers are the reward for working so hard the first time.
It was obvious from the jar of tomato sauce Nonna makes her own tomato sauce from the tomato's in their garden. Maybe come next summer, the next harvest you can do a video of Nonna and Nonno showing how they make their tomato sauce? They are a treasure!
Nonno taking care of his home and giving straight up facts. People who have lived with what is now called "food insecurity" never grow out of the lessons learned from not having food, or having very little. Nonna, with her no-nonsense cooking, magically whipping together simple but deliciously flavor layered dishes (you can nearly taste it through the screen!) shows she understands how important food is, and how much cooking and feeding is an act of love and respect.
Who doesn't eat leftovers? I just can't imagine that. When I make stuff, I've found leftover can actually taste better, because it has time to sit in the fridge and absorb all those juices and spices. People who don't eat leftovers I feel are really missing out.
Would love to sit at the dinner table with your Grandparents, sharing a delicious meal and listening to their stories. I know you realize how lucky you are! ❤️
I’m holding back the tears while watching this because I recently lost my mother to Alzheimer’s. I was her caregiver for the 10 years she was plagued with this disease. Momma started teaching me how to cook when I was 5 years old. I miss you so much momma. 💔
At 4:16 no truer words have ever been spoken! My mother grew up in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina so her family saw plenty of hunger. They were farmers because if they didn’t grow it they didn’t eat. It was that simple. Waking up before the crack of dawn to look for the milk cow and gather the eggs was done daily. There was no running water or electricity. A spring house was near their cabin to store any perishable food they might have. Words aren’t enough to describe my mother. She was a force until we lost her to Alzheimer’s disease. It’s almost like her hardships never ended!! But you know she smiled and laughed through it all. Except maybe some of the stages of Alzheimer’s. Fortunately I got that situation turned around for her. I’ve posted a few videos on my channel about our time dealing with that disease if you’re interested. My channel isn’t monetized I just want to help others see that Alzheimer’s doesn’t have to be as bad as they think will be. I was holding momma in my arms and singing “you are my sunshine” into her ear as she drew her last breath back in June. She was comfortable and pain free thanks be to God for answering those prayers! 🙏🏻
As an Italian (from NY a long time ago) I have never had the pleasure of my grandparents. Something I wished I would have learned from. God Bless You. You are so fortunate to not only have had your Grandparents but to grow up with them.
OMG---I have a pan lid just like that. My grandma had to replace the wire in the handle but it still works great. This brings back many sweet memories. I love it when the family cooks together. Blessings to all.
My Mum was your Grandparents generation. Even though she grew up in relatively safe Ireland during the war, she had rationing of a lot of items. She never wasted a thing in her life, if it could be reused, mended, made into something else it was. Great life lessons.
I thank all of you for bringing me closer to my beautiful Italian immigrant grandparents. Gone for a long while (I'm 76 myself!) and never forgotten. Just hearing that sweet and charming Italian inflected English takes me way back to a beloved time and place. Patty D. P.S. Nonna's cooking is quite like my Grammy's. The taste of her food always tantalizes me to cook better than I can.
It always makes me smile when I see there is an upload of the Spicy Nonna. I know the recipe and Nonni in the garden will be peppered with something for me to learn and discover. Their stories are a testament to wisdom and lives well lived. Thank thank thank you for coming up with the concept of the show. It provides great joy and comfort to those of us in the isolated world we seem to be living in. Its a pleasure to make their acquaintance! ❤
God bless nonno and nonna, they've been through a lot of life. Brought me to tears to hear nonno say he was starving to death and then got removed from his home town during WWII. I remember my nonno Gio and nonna Maria Carmela taking about the same thing happening to them. It wasn't an easy life, they are strong, they've been through a lot of hardships. They are one of the greatest generations, the appreciate things, they work on things, they invent (like your nonno the fabulous artist he is) they know how to survive because they had to. We thank our nonnos and nonnas for us being here, for providing for us and loving us more than they could ever say. The chicken Cacciatore looks deilizioso! Brava nonna and nonno. Tanti auguri e baci from Florida.
This is like watching my own family. My grandfather would work in the yard, he still goes out and walks every day. My grandmother would work in the house. For a long time there was always a garden or orchard to harvest from. They both lived through the depression and the war. They were married for almost 73 years. They raised 6 children, outlived 2 of them, outlive all of their siblings, have over 20 grandchildren and I don’t even remember how many great grandchildren. There’s a lot of them. The stories they have are so wonderful! Funny, heartwarming, charming. Even the sad ones make you feel like things will be ok because they came out the other side of them ok. We should all be so lucky 💜
My mother loved and collected roosters too. God rest her soul. She passed away in 2015. She was my best friend. I miss her so much. Nona is a very beautiful lady and cooks food that makes me so hungry. Thank you for making and sharing your family with us. ❤🙏 God bless you all.
Omgosh, what a huge lovely yard. Julian(?), I so wish you would get in there helping along side your Nonno. I so pray you n your sister shall continue actively what both your Nonno & lovely Nonna have taught you. Peace be with us all 🙏. "Isa"
I so agree with Nonno, if you've never experienced hunger, and throwing away food is a sin. If I even have stale bread, I'll give it to the birds before I'd ever throw it away! Your grandparents are such a treasure, thank you Nonna for all your wonderful recipes, simply delicious!! And thank you Nonno, for your stories you share, I could listen to you for hours! Many blessings to you all!!
Hi from Australia, got to this site from Girl with Dogs. I agree with Nonno, not using up leftovers is so wrong. My parents were children on farms during the Great Depression, but they still had to work hard to make sure there was enough food to exchange with neighbours, and always made sure the very poor got food as well in their area. Thats what you did. I still don't waste leftovers, pan fry cooked veg with a little butter, use up casseroles by having on toast next day, all delicious !! My grandkids love it. Always freeze leftover rice, so easy to use then. Thank you for the recipes and love the stories too.
More time for flavors to develop. I do t want to say that I look down on people who waste food but it hurts my conscience when I see food being wasted, especially when Ive seen the hands that made the food and the effort that went into it.
Love Nonno's story about being hungry and leftovers. I as a parent, have experienced periods of worry of feeding my family and having to create meals on very little. I appreciate his story and his struggle because I was trying to hide our struggle from 3 children.

This video was great! Regarding the message at the end: COMPLETELY AGREE! One of my pet peeves is when people don't eat their left overs. Not hungry now? Fine, save it for later. It's horrible when people throw away food! You guys are wonderful!
My Grandparents on my father's side are from Sicily. They told me stories how they went through terrible hunger during but especially after the second world war. It broke my heart and gave me a greater understanding of why they would react to certain things the way they did. ❤ I miss them so very much ❤
