Great reuse and outcome, Love it 💕 need to show this to my wife and tell, her that she dont always have to buy New purse 😁 Thanks for sharing, This will Come handy 😉
I have this exact same bag and going to be adding it to my eBay store tomorrow. My sister doesn’t want it because it got stained. But this is a great way too cover up the use.
Hi Im sorry about that, did you prepare the bag before you dyed it? What type of dye were you using? I used Angelus navy blue leather dye in this video. There are different types of dye it depends too on what kind of material you are applying it to. I hope this helps.
Looks beautiful! Questions: 1. What brand of dye do you use? 2. When buffing, is there just a little polish remover on the cloth, it is it saturated? 3. If the bag gets wet, will the dye rub off? 4. Can I use a sealant/waterproofing spray to protect the finish? Thank you 😊
Hi Caroline, altho I'm not the original poster of the video, I have been Re-Fabbing Louis Vuitton for 5 years and since this video is over 2 years old I thought I'd help. 1- I personally use Fiebings Leather Dye. 2-When buffing, a clean soft cloth should be used. No acetone on it. I use acetone between the 1st and 2nd dye application. And sometimes after last coat. 3- If buffed until nothing comes off on cloth, it will not run 4-Yes, you can use a sealant such as Resolene or Leather Sheen both from Fiebings or Angelus makes an Acrylic Sealer. I personally do not seal my Louis Vuitton Vernis. I haven't found a sealant that I really like. Hope this helps you. Good luck!
Hello Darling What a Great result. I have some patent lv and gucci bags id like to do the same process on and also some louboutins. Did you apply only one coat? And i ve read that ANGELUS products are the best is that right? Best red-gards
Hi so the steps i should do is buff with nail polish. Dye the bag. Keeps adding costs till desired color. Let bad dry for five minutes. Them buff out with nail polish again until no dye comes out and is shiny? Please let me know if I’m missing a step.
Hi ! Great job 👌🏼 I’m wanting to dye my white patent LV handbag. I’m wondering if you used a special dye for patent leather to give it the shine ? Thanks !
Hi Sally thank you for checking the video, No I did not use a special dye only the Angelus brand I guess because the quality is great is why the outcome after buffing was nice. Oh one thing, the buffing part plays a big role for the shiny look, once all the excess dye has come off after buffing (takes time) then it will look shiny like that. I hope this helps you
Please keep on buffing. The reaskn why it is sticky is because of the excess dye remaining. Please continue wiping it off with nail polish using a white lint free cloth, repeat until its shiny and you dont see any dye coming off
Hi! I have the same bag as yours, the same color and the same problem, the leather is peeling off. So I searched on how to restore it and found your video, thanks for this. Can please give me the list of the products I need? Thanks. 😊
Hi Thank you for watching! I hope this would be helpful to you. The products that I used were Acetone Nail polish remover, lint free cloth or paper towel for buffing,Painting tape to cover the hardware, and Angelus Leather dye in Navy Blue.
Just came across this video. I have a Louis vernis bag which has a tiny chip on the corner (the red patent leather has come off). Would you recommend apply leather paint on it? Thanks
Hi! Thank you for checking it out. I suggest you use a leather dye instead of leather paint as the leather dye penetrates the coat instead of just sitting on the surface. I hope this will help you.
Best one yet! Thanks so much! 2 questions.. How many coats of dye and did you use a lot of acetone on the rag/cloth to remove excess dye? Thanks so much!
Hi Thank you for watching! I used metal polish for the zipper and the hardware that got some dye it will come off. If the hardware of the bag is brass I use Brasso but if not then I use other type of metal polish thats meant for what type of metal used on the hardware. I hope this helps. Cheers!
Hi! For the zipper part I would use a very small painting brush and dye it too but make sure that the zipper is covered by painting tape to minimize oxidation of metal. Let me know how ur project goes!
Hi thank you for watching! No, I didn't need to seal it after buffing the bag with nail polish remover over and over again until all the excess dye come off. The only part that I sealed was the vachetta. After those process I did not have any problem with color transfer. I hope this helps
Hi Thank you for watching! After applying the leather dye when you buff it over and over until there is no more excess dye coming off the bag it should be glossy again. I used nail polish to buff the bag.. I hope this helps you..
Thank you so much I will definitely do it I hope turns this beautiful like yours !!! I think it looks more shiner than before :) lol LAST QUESTION the paint won’t transfer into clothes or stuff on inside if I decide to dyed too ?

Hi there, great video, I am planning to repurpose my old 50s style Kelly handbag which has dark brown patent leather look. I am planning to paint/ dye it primarily beige and do a painting on the bag itself. From what I saw in the video, you used acetone on a paper towel to prep it, Used leather paint on a dauber in circular motions , in two coats, then used a lint free cotton cloth with nail polish remover to finish off the bag? My question is would I be able to do this for my bag? I noted you used Angelus leather dye (not paint) so it doesn't crack. I've also noticed while looking into this that there is a product called Deco Art Patent Leather Paint, would I be better off using a dye after prepping then a patent paint for the picture i'd like to paint on the bag? How would you recommend I go about this. Would I need a gloss on the top after I'm done. I would really appreciate if you could advise me on this. Thanks!
Hi Carol Thank you for watching! The color seems black but it is actually navy blue leather dye that I used for this project and it took me 3 coats in total. I hope this helps .
@@ThePurposefulCraftsDIY The bag looks fantastic. How long did you wait between the coats? Also what did you put on the handles to protect them from color transfer? Another question: do you ever fix broken piping on the corners and what do you use to fix it? Thank you and fantastic job.
Hi thank you for watching the video. Once you buff the bag with nail polish remover it will get rid off the excess dye and it will become shiny again I hope this helps
Hello... wow I love it! I have the same bag and I was thinking in doing this, do you know if I can use a camel color over my bag that is almost white/beige ...and also what kind of paint do you recommend? Thank you so much for the video
Hi Natalia thank you for checking it out, Angelus has plenty of leather paint you can choose colors of, but with Vernis I prefer to use leather dye than paint as the dye penetrates the coat and does not just sits on the top which is vulnerable to chipping. On the other hand, leather dye is limited to colors you can apply depending on the color of the Vernis too.
Hi thank you for watching! I had 3 coatings on the bag. Please be patient and keep on buffing the bag until no more dye is coming off the bag. It will take you a while to buff but it should be shiny again. I hope it goes well for you.
Great video! That was super helpful because my nude goat leather bag has this weird dark stain or something thats deep in the leather and it cant be removed. Ive tried everything so now im gonna just paint it. Did you use acrylic leather paint? Also if i decide i wanna dye it another color how would i remove the navy blue?
Hi Nomie thank you for watching. I used Angelus leather dye for this project, specifically the navy blue color. I prefer using the leather dye over leather paint as the dye penetrates the patent leather. I hope this will help you.
Thank you for watching! No, I did not use any finisher on the patent leather but the vachetta leather only to prevent color transfer. I hope this will help you.
Hi thank you for watching! For this project I used Angelus Leather Dye Navy Blue. The final color of the bag will depend on the original color. I hope this will help.
Interesting. You used leather dye over a plastic coating. Yes- It may be vachetta leather, but that super shine is created the same way they do patent leather. It is a plastic coating. I would have sanded the shiny plastic coating off first, so the dye could be absorbed (You can also use acetone or stripper- let it sit for about 10 minutes and wipe off). If you don't remove it, you might find the dye will wear off very quickly if you don't. But to each your own. If you are happy with the result, that is all that matters!
