Toby himself said he's gonna TRY to make the next newsletter in September to "keep us updated". Which means unfortunately, he's basically said he's officially broken his streak of a game every 3 years in the fall.
Not surprising. Chapter 1 held us over for 3 years, chapter 2 can hold us over for 3 and a half. Especially if we're getting 2 chapters instead of one. According to toby, the game will be more than double in length with the addition of 3 and 4. That's more than double the amount of content added to the game in only a little more time than it took for us to get one chapter before. That makes it sting a little less for me

@@Tudy499In my mind this reads as Toby saying “yeah chapter 3/4 are basically done but we have a good few non content things left so don’t expect it immediately”. What Toby has outlined obviously suggests we still have a little bit of waiting left but in the grand scheme of waiting for chapter 3/4 it feels close.

I was already guessing that the chapters would come out next year, and seeing this newsletter just basically confirmed that hypothesis, in my eyes. I don't find it irritating or anything of the kind, but it's strange to see so many people still jumping to the conclusion that the release will still be this year.
I mean, it's feasible that a release at the tail end of the year is possible (not likely, but possible), but having the Japanese localisation, the console ports, and especially the mention of trailers, promotional material that needs to be done, the rating of the game that needs to be verified by the proper companies, all of that to still get into... sorry I'm no game developer, far from it, but the way Toby phrases it doesn't seem to indicate that such can be done in less than 5-6 months.
I'd bet that in the September newsletter, we'll probably get the news that the chapter's content is fully complete, and that the translation will be in a good track to completion, probably like 75% done (seeing as the team just started it). Also I wanted to add that I believe bug hunting is way more complicated than it seems, because of the need to test in all console versions and English/Japanese versions. I think that part I'm specific will take a GOOD while.
But hey, if the chapters do come out this year, I'll dress up as a clown and start screaming "My person is able to achieve all possibilities!" in the streets at night.
Toby Fox just has a different perception of time than most people.
He says it's far away, but everything he wrote says "late 2024 early 2025" the fact that we have another newsletter scheduled for September is further proof that he expects to have more news, or maybe even a release date for us very soon.
Just because Toby thinks that 6 - 12 months is far away, doesn't mean it's not soon for other people
@@RancorSnp yeah, one's time perception can be completely different from another one, that can't be argued. You do make a great point about the newsletter in September. Seeing that Toby is already planning to do it, that might be a good indication that RELEVANT news may be on the way!

Yeah, which would make sense as the kitchen is somewhat in the same room (do people count that as the same room? There's nothing separating it from the living room?) so it actually makes sense for a cookie segment

I don’t get why a lot of people are saying we’re close to it when the newsletter clearly states that we aren’t. But if you mean really soon as in a couple months then maybe!

Yeah, at the earliest, I'd say maybe middle of December but for all we know it might even be as late as March or April. Since it's not only is it the first time more than 1 chapter is being released at once, but on all consoles as well, it's pretty clear that it would take longer. Who knows though, maybe we'll get a better idea in the September newsletter, but the most we'd likely get is whether or not we'll get the chapters this year, which is sounding unlikely.

The GingerGuard is probably related to Toriel's cookie cutters in the house.
Its 100% based on a cooking show. We saw previews of the locales of Ch3 on the TV before Kris made the fountain. It showed a weather show, a cooking show, and then the purple monster thing. So now we know a cooking show is involved too. It lines up.

gingerguard is probably an item, not an enemy. the text is the equip dialogue for ralsei and susie. probably in reference to toriels cookie cutters as chapter 3 technically takes place in toriels house (though in a tv dark world..)
I don't know why nobody is talking about the fact that Toby pointed out he'll be giving us another update on September specifically.
If he would be talking about autumn newsletter, it would've probably come out on October or November instead.
September is also when chapter 2 released... Maybe i'm just a bit too desperate to get new chapters at this point, and making stuff up, but what if Toby exaggerated the "long" part a bit to suddenly surprise us on Chapters 2 release anniversary with a sudden "chapters 3&4 are out to buy now!" in the next newsletter?
Edit. Also, i'd be on the lookout for the Chapter 1&2 game testing release. Knowing Toby, he probably snuck some obscure lore secret or two in those versions for us to find.
He said he'd give another update in September because that's what he always did for the past few years. I don't think he's lying when he says the chapters are still far off, I doubt he would put so much specific information about the development just to be like "Gotcha!". Especially since we still have so man things needed before release (Chapter 1+2 testing, a trailer, etc.)

I was dead set on Oct 31st before this newsletter. Before they outlined the rest of the roadblocks like this, everything we were told (back in MAY mind you) simply said very little was left to be done. And that proved true, because its all but done now game development wise. And this is still 3 full months away from the Oct 31st date. And I always felt their internal goal was Oct 31st based on the reasons Cibles stated.
But I feel like thats going to be a very difficult date to achieve now (though still possible!). Because of one aspect - the simultaneous console release.
All that other stuff can very easily be done in 3 months without question. Especially since outside of the game maker testing for the game switching command, they are pretty much working on most of it already. The biggest issue is, console releases have a LOT of hurdles and delays baked in. And all of those require a finished product be presented first. You can't like, put it up for the release process which could take oh, 2-4 weeks? And then make adjustments and just ask to have them thrown in. Once you submit it I am pretty sure thats it, you let them do their thing and you basically work on marketing and all that outside stuff. You could still work on updates, but they need to be a patch, and said patch has to then go through those checks and crap for a console release. So that would be the biggest roadblock to making a closer release date.
I still think its more likely it releases this year than 2025. Its absurd to me to think that 5 months isn't enough to translate (when Toby said himself thats not a big deal) and bug test. Those are really the only major work left beyond the console release part. But when all that has to be done before whatever delay there is for the console releases to be approved? Ehhh.
The playerbase just feels so "wounded" by it taking this long, they are ultra scared to expect a reasonable release. Like I see some people still thinking this all will take it into 2026. Its absolutely absurd. Already replies here saying there is no way it comes out 2024.
I chose to be optimistic and am fine with being wrong. I was 50/50 on there being a release date in this letter and am perfectly fine with not getting one.

i very distinctly remember one time i was trying to edit the legend to make it the spongebob one and that's when i found out they dont reuse sprites between chapters, every chapter 1 sprite just has _ch1 in it
Yeah, I believe this is done to reduce glitch shenanigans, so each chapter is its own separate game code-wise.
I remember hearing someone say it in a video but I don’t know if I remember it entirely correctly.

The part that I'm most excited for from this newsletter is the fact that 3 & 4 will be bigger than 1 & 2. This means that we will have over double the amount of Deltarune content than we already have. I think with these 2 chapters, Deltarune will be longer than Undertale.

Honestly, I think a December release or announcement would be epic as purely bc Christmas time and also The Game Awards would be amazing to advertise Deltarune at!
Personally, since it's a paid release, and they want to release every version of the game at once, I'm thinking still another 6 months or so. At earliest around New Years. They gotta bug test the new GameMaker feature, localize the game, bug test that, adapt the game for consoles, and bug test that. That's just on the development side of things. They still also need to get the game rated, create promotional material/a trailer for the release, finalize and put together the OST for release, and other things he didn't specify. Cibles glossed over a lot of things in this video. Toby says himself the game is still FAR from release. So yeah, realistically, I'm thinking it'll be another 6-10 months for release. It all depends on how smoothly everything goes. It'd be cool if I'm wrong and it comes out earlier though!

I'm thinking we're around 7 or 8 months away from release.
Last time Toby had a friend test out the game 5 months before release and from the language in the newsletter, he makes it sound like it's going to take some extra time, so I'd wager it's going to be more than last time. As much as I'd love it to come out this year, I feel October is just out of the question. Holiday release for Christmas would be the best case scenario, if everything falls into place and goes smoothly, but I'm more confident in that it's probably going to come out in first half of 2025, maybe around March or April, maybe even as late as May.
Localizations and stuff will still be a few months. I don't think we'll have to wait a full year, even if I am prepared for more wait.
I think it'll come out in winter or very early spring, but we might get lucky and get it in fall.
I just hope it's within the year 2024

I've got a feeling it will release around either december or january since Toby probably still have a lot to do when it comes to porting the game to devices and game beta testing etc. but i am confident that a trailer/teaser similar to the one that was shown before ch 2 released will come out around september during Undertales anniversary.

yeah, toby specifically said that while the chapters themselves are pretty much finished, theres still a lot they need to do to actually release it, and thats going to take a while. theres no point in building up hype if we've still got a ways to go.

For real though, to the pessimistic people saying "the release is still far away because Toby said so bro 💀," can you give me any other reason as to how it might be? I'm not saying you're wrong, I think it's actually a very plausible argument, but there's too many people being too harsh on Cibles because they don't think she's right. I want a point from someone who isn't just gonna say "Toby was right and I don't need to explain why." Plus, something people are failing to consider is that Toby's definition of far away is probably different than yours. To Toby, a game developer who's been working on TWO CHAPTERS for one game over the course of 3+ years who's really passionate about his community's happiness, far away could only mean 6 or less months. But to an average person, far away is likely a year or two away (and I'll be hellbent if these chapters release in 2026). The point is, I want an original argument from someone in favor of how the release date is "far away" to the average person (far away being around 10-18 months away).

Deltarune Chapter 1 2 and 3 Now Real Trilogy

1:58 As confident as I am that Chapter 3 and 4 will be DONE this year, it's also important to consider that the range of dates between a friend playing chapter 2 and it releasing is not a completely accurate representation of the time frame, as the console port didn't come out until ANOTHER 4 months later. Now, it's quite likely that Toby took a short break after it, since he said he was having issues related to fatigue and hand injury during the development grind, and factoring in the significantly larger team size, it's very plausible that means they can get the last of the chapter done AND those extra parts in this time, but I'm unsure of how long it will take. I was hopeful for Deltarune's anniversary, but I think if it will be this year, it will be late November to December

I got back into this game. (Like i was ever really out of it.) Just bcs of the newsletters saying it's basically done. So I replayed the whole thing completely pacifist with the best possible things to get eg. I got
the original starwalker. I was real scared for jevil and spamton bcs I haven't played in a while. First tried both bcs I'm amazing. And even no healed spamton

I was talking to some of my friends about the potential of an October 31st release due to the fact that three months from the date that the newsletter was sent is October 31st, 2024. It may be possible that Toby saying we're "three months closer to release" is also teasing an anniversary release. With chapter two releasing on Undertale's 6th anniversary and this coming Halloween being Deltarune's 6th anniversary, I wouldn't be surprised if this was intentional

i could see that the gingerguard thing could actually be because of the kitchen in the dreemur house, and that basically the dark world in chap 3 will be based on ALL of the house with how the green room from the sweepstakes seems to reflect kris's room. maybe the idea of a cooking show could happen too but in that area. we will see i guess

In my honest opinion I think the Release Date has to be December as for the Reason it would make sense to the Story of Deltarune Itself since everyone has been speculating a lot on Noelle and her relationship with Kris with her Family as well as this Dess person that is mysteriously missing?
I'd be fine with it being sooner but if they do release it during December aka the Holiday's Season then in a Story kind of sense Toby Fox is an actual Genius in Story Progression both in Deltarune and also IRL lmao
Chapter 3 most likely is going to be the entire living room because if It's the TV then from the endings of Chapters 1 and 2 then that means we would have to bring the entire TV to the closet or in a rare case take it apart,the thing that makes me say this is the shadow men because the shadow men are most likely the little decorations on the windows near the TV and the dark world will be TV based but it might not just be completely about TV's and might include a theorized secret boss being a plant amalgamation being the flowers toriel threw away as it makes an interesting fight

yeah I have theory that chapter 3 & 4 will come out on november 2nd
the thing that pisses me off is people get mad about the game not releasing but yet FORGET that deltarune is still a demo- so of course itll take a long time to release the game, toby is now preparing to actually officially release it now sometime this or next year, people really need to learn patience.
if it does come out,thats yet another thing that happened before GTA 6

Imagine a puzzle where Kris can touch said tiles but Susie and Ralsei can not. This could make for some interesting puzzles, especially with conveyors, boxes, second floors, and possibly a statue that you’ll need to “Puppeteer” One of the pm’s (follow/dismiss would have to be a button) to push said statue onto a button, causing some of the gas to disappear so the PM can continue.
