    17 million albums sold, and every song is a banger. It’s considered one of the greatest debut albums in music history. There are high-ups in the industry who consider it as one of the “perfect” albums ever recorded.
    And just think, all those vocals are ONE voice. The late great Brad Delp

    Tom Scholz played all the instruments on this album. He recorded the album in his basement and hired Brad Delp to sing. The band was formed after the album was recorded. You have to read the whole story.

    • @jindas4217
      @jindas4217 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      If I'm not mistaken, Tom Scholz also attended MIT, graduated from there with a Masters Degree in Engineering. So the dude is legit, High IQ/Intelligent. Jeebus, just to go to MIT is challenging enough. I've worked with some people who attended and I can say...um...they seemed kinda, for lack of better words, it "broke" them. But yeah, it's just a nightmare. Lol.

      Actually the whole band played on "Foreplay/Longtime", and "Hitch a Ride", which was one third of the album (12 1/2 minutes). Brad Delp also played acoustic guitar on "Let Me Take You Home Tonight", which he also wrote. Sib Hashian played the drums on all songs except Rock and Roll Band, which has Jim Masdea on drums.
      Everyone knew this when the album came out. The misconception that Tom Schultz played every instrument on the album didn't start until years later. Scholz spoke in one early interview about getting help from Brad Delp and Barry Goodreau with writing some of the songs.
      Not to take anything from Scholz, he really was a master at sound engineering, and it's pretty rare to find someone who can do it all from the creation of the song, to the arranging, recording and right down to the final mix. And he was definitely a wizard at the mixer. He knew the sound he wanted and not only did he know how to mix for it, but when the equipment wasn't capable of producing what he wanted to hear he created and modified equipment until he had what he wanted.
      But the rest of the band certainly deserve recognition for their part in the creation of the album.

    It was fun listening to you guys struggle with what kind of music Boston does. I'm an old fart and I remember all these bands. I'm a musician and I worked in a music store at the time Boston broke. Journey was kindof a slow burn in terms of popularity. Rush was a little underground. But when Boston broke their first song, we were all like, "What the hell is that?!" The sound was great. Power guitar, perfect pitch, high-register vocals with great harmonies and sorta complicated lyrics. Boston wasn't like anyone else - couldn't pigeon-hole them... and still cant. Live, they were good, but for my money, they were a fantastic studio band, second maybe to the Beach Boys in terms of studio production. I'm new to you guys but really enjoy watching you. Thanks for discovering new music and helping some of us relive previous decades. Rock on!

    That ain't no big city rock. That is "CLASSIC" rock, and that song, which came out almost 50 years ago in 1976, is as classic as classic rock gets. It is the ultimate "Dude, I just got a new set of speakers for my 150-watt Pioneer stereo. Let's see how loud they are!"
    I have broken in many a new stereos with that song.
    Like michaelmacentyre said, I am blessed to have been around back when music like this was new, and was old enough to appreciate it.
    There is very little, if any, music thats comes out these days that can even remotely compare with this.

    this song and the entire debut album (also named Boston) was recorded by one man, the leader and guitarist and organist, Tom Scholz. In his basement studios. The singer is the late great Brad Delp. Tom recorded all the songs in his basement studio with the exception of the last track, Let Me Take You Home Tonight, which has a slightly different vibe than the rest of the album.
    This album is the BEST debut of any band, it has currently sold over 17million copies. only Guns N Roses debut Apptite For Destruction is better (at 18million copies). though every year they keep jockeying for position. Personally, I think Boston debut is the perfect album every song is great and a radio staple.

    Saw them in concert at the Sun Dome in Tampa, FL. in 1991. What a crowd. While waiting for the concert to start. We saw a man with greying hair in his' 50's wearing a Tux. His date was a stunning blonde in a light blue floor length evening gown with a tiara, diamond earrings/necklace and white elbow length gloves. 10 feet behind them, in walked a 30's women in a black bustier, leather short shorts, fishnet stockings, thigh-high boots and black leather gloves. In her hand was a silver chained dog leash. This leash was attach to the man she was leading in. He was wearing black combat boots, black leather pants, a black leather vest (no shirt), spiked leather dog collar and a full head black leather mask! I told my friends "This Concert just went to the next level"!! It was awesome! I never saw so many panties thrown onto the stage!!

    The fundamental bands of progressive rock are:
    * Genesis
    * Yes
    * King Crimson
    * Emerson, Lake and Palmer
    There are other bands that sometimes fit into the genre and sometimes don't
    * Pink Floyd
    * Rush
    * Chicago
    But those bands also often fit into other genres

    Boston live was excellent showmanship...especially when "Cool the engines" came on and an entire 15'-20' brass pipe organ rises from the back of the stage and gives you that phantom of the opera feel with a rocking vibe...great band with excellent feel good quality....thx guys keep it up/real.

    Love that you guys are getting into more of the classic 70s rock! Definitely brings a smile to my face. Little fun fact for you - Journey actually had 3 albums under its belt before Steve Perry came along and turned them into a pop band. Originally they were a progressive rock group. Check out "Look Into The Future," "Spaceman" or "Of a Lifetime" for a taste of the real Journey!

      Of A Lifetime is a great song. Orgasmic Guitar solo. Greg Rollie on Keys and Vocals. Same Singer from the famous recording of Carlos Santana's Black Magic Woman. Aynsley Dunbar plays drums on that first Journey record. If you got some time on your hands check out Aynsley's discography He's played with everybody...

    That was fun, thank you. This came out in 1976, the year before I started getting stoned (and the year before my husband was born). We didn’t have smartphones, we hung out. We used to hang out after school, get stoned and play records. It’s great to watch you knowing at any second your mind will be blown by where the music takes you. There was so much creativity when we weren’t hooked on screens. I haven’t watched your channel so you might have reacted to these already, otherwise Freebird (the Oakland live concert version) is from around the same year also Janis Joplin-Cry Baby from several years earlier is amazing.

    Amazing debut album. Tom Sholz (Guitar) is known for being innovative. MIT grad, made some of the gear used to record the album and holds patents on em still as far as I know. (Rock man brand stuff, Rockman headphone amp in a ton of professional studios…) Recorded and mixed the album in his basement while working a day job for Polaroid. Brad Delp (the amazing vocals) had a very sad and tragic end to his life.

    He was an incredible singer, but like so many, struggled with his demons unfortunately. But he was such a great human. I read somewhere that when he passed, he left a note on the front door that warned of carbon monoxide inside and not to enter the house. Caring and compassion right to the end. RIP Brad D, :(

    I remember this song now. This song is the bomb. 🎶🥁💥😊
    It was my mother who told me about this band back in the day. That's how I got introduced to awesome music at a young age. And then years later my mom took me to see The White Stripes and then years after that, I return the favor and took her to see Jack White in concert for Mother's Day. That was before covid hit the world.

    tom scholz, not only played all instuments and produced this album, but he invented the effects pedals that you hear on the guitars and keyboards. he was employed as an engineer at kodak. he is also self taught. the guy is awesome!!

      Tom didn't play all the instruments, he was taught classical music as a child, and he didn't _"invent"_ the effects he used on this album. You've bought into a bunch of stoner myths. Also, he work in product development for Polaroid, not Kodak.
