I agree with the over sexualizing in rap music, specifically in the US and in Kpop they don’t do that. That’s one of the things I prefer much more in Asia, I feel like women can be crazy sexy without having to shake their bodies (not to say other things) in tiny bikinis. You can be sexy without having to talk about sex all the time

The musical references here are pretty extensive, Jennie starts out with a reference to Biggie's famous line "kick in the door, wavin the 44"(Jennie says Coco). Next Lisa references Rhianna's "Pon de Replay" with "One by one and two by two" and also 50 Cent's P.I.M.P. with "you can't get a dollar outta me". Rosé and Jisoo both reference Taylor Swift with "look what you made us do". Finally, the Jennie/Lisa rap verse is backed by a sample of Ice Cube/Easy-E's part of "Gangster Gangster" by N.W.A. They(Teddy and the girls) definitely weren't shy about shouting out their inspirations/favorite artists in this song.
Also, anti-drop in the chorus is fire. Blackpink are so ahead of the game they are even outdistancing their own fans at times... it's ok though, the salty fans will feel like proper assholes once they finally get it in the days/weeks/months to come or they won't and in that case, who needs em? BP already making tons of new fans in the west with this. They ain't called the revolution for nothing.
LISA did everything A+ she's insane in this comeback. She showed everything and she nailed each. JENNIE's on fire in this comeback too, love to see her rap and to show she's the main rapper. ROSÉ's voice is so angelic and sooo goood to hear. JISOO's ethereal beauty and great voice need I say more. This is their best comeback for me. Everything's on point. I am so proud of them. For what you said about oriental instruments, in fact its not the instruments that sound alike, its the scale they play in. Western music is using (90% of the time) either a minor or major scale, sometimes chromatic. Eastern uses alot of Pentatonic scale.

No other *kpop group* paid this amount of homage to Black Hip Hop artists and Black girl groups.
From biggie's kick in the door to riri's pon to the 90's black girl groups Aesthetics, choreo and anti-drop chorus sound to the boom bap triple speed clutch in a double speed cadence to the english bars that are legit.
They stayed true to the Genres they were portraying while adding their own Rock and roll women empowerment spice.

I really liked what you said about female sexualization in the west. You are right. Blackpink destroys that concept. Because obviously they are gorgeous and sexy. But your realization of that is like 5th or 6th down the list of why you really like them. I swear when I woke up the morning after the release, I was so shocked to find out that some people hated it. One of their best work yet.
You're correct about the drop being polarizing. At first I felt let down, as the prechorus was building up for a heavy drop, but once I heard it a few times I loved it. If it dropped heavy it would have sounded too much like KILL THIS LOVE (which people also didn't like at first because the bass is delayed in the drop)
The instrument that Jisoo played at the beginning of the mv is 'Geomungo' which is a Korean traditional instrument. That instrument has been used from 7th century in Korea since it was very long time ago. It isn't Japanese. I hope many people don't misrepresent about it. If I add the fact more, Jisoo wears the traditional Korean clothe 'Hanbok' when she plays Geomungo. Anyway as I'm a Korean, I'm proud of Black Pink using lots of Korean culture beauty inside their mv.

Jennie and Lisa are the rappers of the group. Jennie usually starts most music videos with a rap verse and Lisa will come through later in the song with her own verse for the "official" rap part. But no, they both rap. I like how they did it different this time and had both of them rap together.

Ok ern lets first talk about Indian influence, most asian countries culture have heavy influence of strings so they sound similar but you would be surprised how much South India and South Korea have in common.
Now I know you are just scraping the surface of K-POP, but as a fan of the group, if you take 2 years for a comeback, you can't come with a song which sounds like the combination of different songs from the past.
Hardcore fans of Blackpink will like this cause they have litrally waited for 2 years for this comeback but knowing how much these girls are talented it could have been much much better.

What I like about it was the build was leading down that path of "oh we gonna get that carbon copy electro-pop build until it pops, but when it went to the anti-drop, I was completely chin checked.
