when browsing for books to read, i always look for book reviews. that is why i bring you the best books of 2023 / the top 10 books to read that quickly turned into a very chatty / ranty video about some of the new book releases of 2023 (and also, some popular book releases). here, we talk about all my favorite books of the year. booktube and booktok have buzzed about some of these… what did i think of them? i hope you guys enjoy this one and come out with more books to add to your TBR and some good book recommendations for 2024!

I'm going through so much of a slump that when I hold a book I want to cry so im just watching TH-cam and doing other hobbies until I'm ready to read again.....thanks for another great video
Have you tried audiobooks? I went through the worst reading slump back in 2020 and listening to the book A Man Called Ove as my first audiobook ever really helped get me out of the slump as I felt accomplished by finally getting through a book, even via audio, and also happy that I realized I enjoyed audiobooks too! Just a suggestion! Good luck :)

i love this approach! that's typically what i do when i'm slumpy and it works every time💖
agree with vivi too, that audios can be a great way to get back into it, if you're looking for that! anytime i audiobook while diamond painting, it does the trick🏋🏻
@@MelReads I started an audiobook last night and it relaxed me and I was able to do some gluebook crafts and so it's definitely doing the trick thank you also for being amazing

Red Rising completely blew me away with how much I loved it and couldn’t put it down! Just finished the first trilogy and I’m totally obsessed 😍

I'm in such a reading slump at the moment, which feels like a horrid way to begin the year, but I'm trying to be kind to myself and remind myself that I still have the rest of the year to read, and I can give myself a break right now
listen, sometimes our brains need a break from reading, and listening to that need is fantastic! just because we don't read a ton one month, doesn't mean we're not readers still- take your time💖
December and January are usually such busy times for people and ots entirely logical and normal to feel slow or unproductive for those months. Don't feel bad! And don't feel bad for not hitting goals or milestones at any point in the year bc you do you best and know what you need best
YES! Front Desk is an absolutely amazing book series and I’ve loved it for a while! Soo good to see it finally getting the recognition it deserves ❤❤

I hit a reading slump towards the end of the year as well. I only read 38 of 50 books but I’m okay with that. I still felt I had a great reading year and that’s all that matters 😊📱☎️

Daugther of No worlds trilogy was a highlight in my 2023 favorites and I just want to quote my favorite line because every time I see this book, that’s the first thing I remember: “You were the one who wanted to save the world,” he said, quietly. “I just wanted to save you.” ❤

☎Check and Mate was my no.2 of 2023 :D But girl.... Butcher and Blackbird is hands down my favourite! 😍😍😍I was NOT expecting to love that book that much! I was in a little reading slump at that moment and saw Butcher and Blackbird cover somewhere and thought I'll give it a try. That book is NOT for everyone, that's for sure. But I have really twisted sense of humor so it hit the spot! I've read ebook and now I also own paperback copy and I squealed when I saw that there's a bonus scene! 🤩😍
Currently reading Hell Bent and agree that its definitely steering more towards the fantasy. I love me some dark academia but Alex getting into the magic side of things is great.
oh the Front Desk series sounds so good! I can see younger me totally getting this. Good thing reading is for all ages so I'll put this in my TBR! 📱
I loved Seven Days in June when I read it a couple years ago. I really need to re-read it. I really loved Becoming by Michelle Obama; the Brown Sisters Trilogy by Talia Hibbert; and Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco in 2023.

I LOVED the Bridge Kingdom! It is now one of my favorite series of all time. Also, I read the Hunger Games for the first time in 2023 and absolutely loved it!

📞 My favorite book of 2023 was definitely The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison (amazing, I can’t recommend it enough), but tied for second we’re The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams and Persuasion by Jane Austen.

I didn't have the best reading year in 2023 so I couldn't actually tell you which book was my favorite but I did really enjoy Foxglove by Adalyn Grace 😊

📞 my fav book I've read that had stuck with me still was a ship of bones of teeth. its like a dark romance with a siren and pirate. Its like the little mermaid meets pirates of the Caribbean. And as someone who heavily likes both, it was so good for me.

🕊 🐍 I loved the Ballad of S&S too! Much more detail and aspects to analyse in the book compared to the movie 🍿 Thanks for sharing books I’ve never heard of either! I think BookTube can be quite insular with the books that get reviewed and popular so it was nice to see books like Front Desk in here which I haven’t seen before 😊
very much this! the movie didn't capture the characters true intentions or the full extent of their backstories, so the book remains superior for me💖

hard agree with your top pick, i read Check & Mate in a single day because it was so compelling and i was obsessed with it! i didn't even expect to like it because i don't enjoy YA anymore and never read Ali Hazelwood after DNFing The Love Hypothesis, but holy shit this book slapped so hard 🔥

My top book of 2023 was, hands down, "Iron Widow" by Xiran Jay Zhao. The creativity, the messy grey characters, the LITERAL love triangle, the feminist themes...all of it just sucked me in and I haven't been able to shut up about this book since I read it. Up in my top five I also have "Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries," "Sorcery of Thorns," "Amari and the Night Brothers," and "Spells for Forgetting."
i still haven't read iron widow, but i keep hearing amazing things about it!! and YES to amari making the list- such a good book🥹🧚🏻♂💖

I feel like I'm the only person who really disliked the ballad of songbirds and snakes. I thought the idea was cool but the execution was so drawn out, slow, boring. One of my fave books that I read in 2023 was we are all so good as smiling by Amber McBride. Check trigger warnings but it made me cry and resonated with me so much as someone who struggles with mental health. I also read me(moth) by the same author last year and it was also so good.
