This year, I'm lowering my goodreads goal, and focusing on the many chunky fantasy books on my shelves. Words of Radiance, Empire of Silence, Will of the Many, to name a few.
I am actually trying to get back to fantasy reading next year so most of the books I want to read are like yourself the first in a series including: Jade City, The City of Brass, Sword of Kaigen, She Who Became The Sun & Assassins Apprentice.
Also sidenote i love how in the background we can see the books mel has talked about in the video and the pile just slowly growing. It just scratches something in my brain haha 😅
I literally just finished Blood over Bright Haven. Lovedddd it. Read Sword of Kaigen earlier this year and honestly think about that book so much. ML Wang is brilliant at making you feel the characters pain
Next year I will actually be focussing more on moodreading instead of tbr's. This year I made seasonal tbr's, but it made me get into reading slumps a few times so I hope to prevent that next year.
In regards to One Piece, I am so happy to hear that the live action is what made you want to start it! I haven't seen it, but I hear nothing but good things for the live action. I've been watching One Piece off and on for about 4 years, I was so intimidated about the length but it has quickly become one of my absolute favourite anime / manga!! You're in for a treat, welcome to the club! 😊❤
ONE PIECE YES omg I'm obsessed I hope you love it! People usually recommend getting the the end of the "East Blue" arc to decide if you like it. The Netflix live-action adaptation also gets to this point so that might be a fun motivation!
i love these end-of-year videos! my top books to read in 2025 would probably be: - new releases like "a witch's guide to magical innkeeping" by sangu mandanna, "my friends" by fredrik backman, "katabasis" by r.f. kuang (all by some of my favorite authors) + "heir" by sabaa tahir bc i didn't have the chance to get to it this year - some books i've been meaning to get to for the longest time & i want 2025 to finally be the year! "jade city" by fonda lee, "the starless sea" by erin morgenstern, "station eleven" by emily st. john mandel - and i want to read more from these two authors: haruki murakami and toni morrison! - i also want 2025 to be my brandon sanderson year :) i've only read 2 books by him so far ("elantris" and "the final empire") and i'm so pumped to delve even deeper into the cosmere, it seems like a lot of fun!
I've been making really extensive tbrs, and found that I wasn't enjoying it and got into book slumps quite frequently. So, this year, I'm mixing it up! I have started putting the top 5 books I want to read on a wheel and spinning it; the book it lands on is the book I'll read! It allows me to mood read while keeping a TBR element since I'm a big planner. In 2025, I'm graduating from college, so I'm hoping to have more time to read books that have been on my tbr for years: - The Song of Achilles - What the River Knows - One Dark Window - The Silmarillion (I read Lord of the Rings for the first time this year and absolutely loved it!) I also wanna do a few re-reads in 2025: - Harry Potter (I haven't done a re-read since 2020-2021, it's calling to me) - Endgame Trilogy by James Frey
Rebecca is also on my yearly tbr for 2025! I think the book sounds so interesting & this book was actually the inspiration for the song "tolerate it" by taylor swift. Your copy is absolutely stunning & I can't wait to hear your thoughts about it so I can compare my thoughts.
Rebecca was such a surprise for me! I put it as one of my challenge books for 2024 and when I picked it up I told myself I had to read 20 pages a day, but suddenly I was putting aside all my other reads to focus on only this!!! Hope you like it 😊
2024 was the first year where I actually got into reading so my reading goal was “read 1 book a month” it’s a small enough goal not to be intimidating but also bc it spanned the whole year it encouraged me to continue reading! Similar for 2025, my reading goal is “read one literary classic and one non literary classic a month” this increases my actual number of books I need to read (as this year I read 50+ books) while also making me reach out to different books in quite a large category that I otherwise probably wouldn’t pick up! I find when I get to specific with books I wanna read I actually get deterred from picking them up so this flexibility really works for me :)
Good luck in 2025 💪 My goal for next year regarding my TBR is definitely getting my TBR down! I have about 12 books left on my TBR right now, and hoping to get it down to the single digits before 2025 starts! I just need to stop buying books for a while 😂 which is the hard part
I think I’m the complete other direction- I have series I want to finish. Wheel of time, I’m on book 10. And the rest of the farseer trilogy. In an ideal world, I also start my cosmere journey 🤞🏾🤞🏾I like the idea of 10!
I made a list of the books that I have sitting on my shelves for my 2025 tbr, hopefully getting to check items off a list will trick my brain into thinking I don’t need to buy new books! 😅
im starting 2025 with a 20 book goal ^^ i also gave myself 2 goals for the year: read 10 nonfiction and read 12 books from my physical tbr that have been there for years now (like it, emma, sherlock holmes, some chonckers if you will) fortunately there is some overlap with these two goals and im starting uni exam reading next year as well so the nonfiction goal should be manageable as well!!
🌹 I wanna get into Cassandra Clare and Brandon Sanderson in 2025. The amount of times I've heard Robin hobb's name this past week AND I saw one single book of hers, I think the one you mentioned, in a bookstore. I think this is a sign from the universe 😂
Cassandra Clare start with :The infernal devices... Still think about those characters Brandon Sanderson: take your time, the stormlight is long and is meant to be savored
I hope "Better than Fiction" works for you more than it did for me! It didn't quite play into the synopsis enough for me, and went to the romance way too fast. But I'm ace, so I know I have different standards. So far for next year I have "Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrell" as well as "Rebecca" on my 2025 TBR. I'm probably also going to add the first two books in the Crowns of Nyaxia, because even though I read "Serpent and the Wings of Night" earlier this year, I need to re-read it before starting the second one.
I'm way too much of a mood reader to set a monthly TBR, let alone a yearly one lol...the most TBR I can do is like, book club books, and sometimes even then I don't stick to it if I'm really not feeling the book pick for that month😅
Mel u should read foul heart huntsman first on this list! I loved that one and want to read book 2 so badly but also don’t want to say goodbye to that series! Happy reading. Ps. 2 of these I have on my list as well
im doing a 25 books to read in 2025! i'm almost finished with my 24 books to read in 2024 (only two left) and i'm starting to craft my 25 list. it's not set in stone because there's a possibility i might read some of these before the year is up. but for sure on the list are things like "immortal" by sue lynn tan and "a forgery of fate" by elizabeth lim - books actually releasing in 2025. i don't have a large physical tbr at all, in fact i always try to keep it under 10, so i don't pull my yearly want-to-reads from my already owned books. i try to make it a balance of books that are coming out in that year and books that have been out for a while / that i've had my eye on for a while but i just never got around to picking up, as well as a balance between books i know i want to own a physical copy of and books to pick up from the library.
I love this selection! Revecca is also on my list for next year :) Personally, I just finished Remarkably Bright Creatures last month and it definitely wasn't for me, I found the guy mc absolutely insufferable and the book sent me right into a reading slump (I had high expectations) 😅 Loved the octopus though, really wished he was in the book more. :')
currently reading Blood over Bright haven and taking my time so I can be in sync with our book club. But it’s so so so good. Might force me into my dark academia era. Also I’m gonna bully myself and you.. why haven’t you read Assassin’s Apprentice Mel? Why not tiahra??? 🌹🌹🌹
I just made my frist youtube video for books and my goals are : long chunky books lol War and peace Oathbringer The count of Minte Cristo 3 stephen king books And whatever i decide i wanna do after those clunkers. I may just read those and be done lol.
WAIT WAIT WAIT. REBECCA IS MY FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME. IM CURRENTLY REREADING AND I NEVER REREAD. PLEASE place this on top of your TBR next. 😃😃😃 year. Edit: its a slow burn but once it gets going.... Omg it gets going. Its the OG millionare romace, OG insta love, OG romance suspense, OG poor girl rich man, OG creepy a.f lol
🌹I personally hate the art style of One Piece so I really enjoyed the live action show. I'm not choosing books for 2025 I just set goals. 1. Finish/catch up with 25 series 2. 🗣🗣🗣MEL WILL JOIN THE ONE PIECE FANDOM 🗣🗣🗣this 8s not a drill!!!🗣 also us OP fans liked the Live action, so we all good Melanora 😊 (Sorry I wanna join the fun Mel names 😂😂)
my only goal is that the amount of unread books that i own is reduced to less than 25% (which i'm not too far from actually)(but the idea is not to buy a new book until i have reached that 3/4 goal
This year, I'm lowering my goodreads goal, and focusing on the many chunky fantasy books on my shelves. Words of Radiance, Empire of Silence, Will of the Many, to name a few.
Don't waste time, words of Radiance is the book you must pick up. Just enjoy those characters. They like became my bff's lol.
@mcp0y3 you've convinced me😂
@@nicolesweeting3101 ha...that wasn't too hard 🤣
same!!!
@@mcp0y3 thank you for convincing me to reading words of radiance
I am actually trying to get back to fantasy reading next year so most of the books I want to read are like yourself the first in a series including: Jade City, The City of Brass, Sword of Kaigen, She Who Became The Sun & Assassins Apprentice.
Blood Over Bright Haven was BRILLIANT, and I can’t wait to see your reaction. Remarkably Bright Creatures was so heartwarming.
Also sidenote i love how in the background we can see the books mel has talked about in the video and the pile just slowly growing. It just scratches something in my brain haha 😅

I hope you love intermezzo!! I am focusing on diversifying my reading next year with new genres (sci fi, epic fantasy, etc) and new to me authors!!
🌹🌹🌹 OK you put me over the edge, I'm going to have to read Blood over Bright Haven soon
I want to start the Farseer series this year too!
Rebecca had my jaw drop and Remarkably Bright Creatures was so sweet. Happy reading! 🌹🌹🌹
omg Rebecca is one of my all time favorite books. that copy is gorgeous!
The audiobook of Remarkably Bright Creatures was great. I loved the voice actor for Marcellus.
Blood over Bright Haven is my new absolute favorite book! I hope you love it too. The protagonist’s name is pronounced sigh-oh-nah 😊
