I just fell over one of your videos. I am a lot older than you but the way you discuss books is just beautiful. I have had Possession on my shelf for over 20 years unread. You have reminded me why I bought it and I will definitely read it this year. I have noted down a few of your favourite. Thank you.
I love The Broken Earth trilogy as well. I really like that you don't just review the "newest out" books. You review what you are actually reading. I love finding new/old authors too. Have you read Barkskins by Annie Proulx?
Gilead was absolutely my TOP read of 2023.. I adored it so much and I can’t wait to get to Home. It was definitely a page turner for me also. Like most people, you have to be in a specific place in your life to truly understand where Robinson is taking you in this novel.
The way you talk about books makes me want to spend all of my time just reading. I am so happy that my taste matches yours so much. With every video you make, my to-read list grows exponentially.
I’m reading The Shipping News now after having lived in Newfoundland for about 7 years.. I promise the entire island isn’t as remote, desolate, and harsh as the area they are in 😂 it’s actually quite a beautiful and special province. Thoroughly enjoying the book too!
Would love to hear you share how you find titles outside of book club. I’m enthralled your descriptions of this list! Deliberating which few will best suit my upcoming camping trip
read Gilead in January this year, I've had it on my shelf for years now and just on a whim decided to pick it up. I could not have picked a better book to start the year. I want to focus on slow reads and read more challenging books this year. Also great to read the books that I have had on my shelf for years instead of buying new books this year, encouraging to see reviews of books that are not brand new. tx
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Possession, I read it a couple years ago because my uni professor gifted me it. I would have never picked it up otherwise as it is a romance (not my preferred genre) but Oh my Goodness it is so much more than that. Glad you loved it as well Jess
Great to hear about your favourites! "In Ascension" spoke to me so strongly too. 💙 And great to see William Maxwell being discussed - I feel like he's an author not widely read anymore. I found "Pew" so thought provoking as well - I'd really recommend Lacey's recent novel "Biography of X". I've heard so many positive responses to "Braiding Sweetgrass" and you've made bit sound excellent I really need to get to reading it. Hope you experience many more fantastic reads this year! 📚
I read assassins apparentice last year too and loved it, my aim is to finish the first trilogy this year and then go from there. Pew, In Ascension and So long see you tomorrow are all on my TBR! ❤
Just finished this new, original collection of fairy tales, entitled 'Sillies, Fancies, and Trifles' - it was phenomenal and just perfect for the season. What's everyone else reading, I want some more recommendations to add to the lovely ones here. Keep up the beautiful videos :)
@@sesame135 yea I could see her being disappointed by the way he writes female characters, or the lack there of. I'm not too pleased with it myself. I'm giving him time to redeem himself and hoping to see this evolve in later works. He has a book coming out in November that is set in this world (but not the final installment of the trilogy).
I'm currently 20 some chapters into Assassin's Apprentice and my imagination is coloring this world to look like a studio ghibli film. I agree with your thoughts so far it's rather slice of life for a fantasy!
omg, I'm using that for myself, "characteristically late" cause SAME Possession is on my tbr this year- hoping to get to it in this first quarter or third of the year! I bought the book and then a day or two afterwards A.S. Byatt died : ( The best books and favorite books that I read last year are A Room With A View by E.M. Forster, Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh, Notes on a Silencing by Lacy Crawford, Miss D & Me by Kathryn Sermak, and The Color Purple by Alice Walker. I read a lot of good to great books last year (a lot of 3.5 and 4 star books) but honestly only a few that came close to being new overall favorites. So I'm hoping this year I read some titles I become obsessed with, that become my whole personality, that take over my life, etc. I feel like it's been a while since I felt that way about a book. Definitely going to read some 5-star prediction books this year!

I always look forward to your book suggestions!
Absolutely agree about In Ascension feeling personal like that, as if the huge questions it was asking were posed just for you. Great list! 🎉

So so happy Farseer is in your list!
Have you read the rest of the realm of elderlings books?
Pew is absolutely one of my favourites! It was one of the best bookclub reads we had but I just find it so thought provoking!

added *sula* to my tbr! thanks for talking about these :)

I read pew recently because of your recommendation and I really enjoyed it. Adding In Ascension to my list!

I am confident that you and any other Robin Hobb fans will love "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss.
Jess has already read it - I seem to recall her not being overly impressed.
I'm not convinced the series will ever be finished either!

Love your sweater!!!
*jumper hehe sorry
I’m sending you love and a great year ❤❤❤
Braiding Sweetgrass
I’ve been waiting for this 👏🏾👏🏾
I finished the live ship traders trilogy last month and now I’m reading ‘fools errand’. I can’t wait to see where the story of Fitz goes.

The Broken Earth Trilogy is the absolute best thing I read last year. Insane. ❤
