This is EXACTLY what happened to us here in Puerto Rico in 2017 for Hurricane Maria. It’s very very sad seeing all the people affected and it’s also mind boggling to see all the damage after. It really puts life into perspective. Prayers to all Florida residents going through tough times right now ❤

Irma and Maria were very bad. Helene had the same energy as Ian, they are very similar hurricanes in formation and strength, this shows a pattern in this new condition of warmer Oceanic and Gulf waters, were those hurricanes grow very fast to cat 4 or 5 near the coastline. Those hurricanes will be this strong, and more frequent.

scariest thing theyve lived through? Michael was... 7 years ago. No lessons learned from that storm? Or is it bc they were not directly impacted? Everybody who is a native understands, everyone eventually gets a taste of a major storm. Doesnt matter where you are. Pay attention. Visit an area thats been hit so fully understand what the impact of a major storm looks like. Go a year after the storm. Go 2 yrs after. 3yrs. Recovery is not instantaneous. It impacts you for years. Do it.... or dont and be "astounded" and unprepared when you experience it.

I don't think there's anything that you really can do about that kind of thing.
If the soil becomes heavily saturated with water, there's not much to keep trees and poles from falling over.
At best they could turn the power off before the worst of the storm gets there and try to design power lines/poles to fall away from homes.
But if the road is impassable due tp stuff falling in the road, that is it's own problem.
