    I am a native Floridian and have so many memories here. At 15 years old a friend and i spent every singly day at Johns pass. The shops knew us, they fed us, they gave us free soda and great conversation. We were good kids just making memories! I'm devastated 😭😭😭. On the other hand, just like you said, there are no other people like Floridians. We stand together. Youre smile after showing the world the devistion speaks volumes. ❤🥰 My husband and I moved to South Carolina for 6 years and missed that bond. We told everyone that Florida beach people are a different breed. You could be homeless, walking barefoot with abackpack on yoour shoulder and someone will stop you, give youva ride to their house, feed youva home cooked meal, and if you feel safe offer you a place to sleep for the night. These are my people ❤❤❤

    The "Pass" as locals refer to it, was created by a hurricane on September 27, 1848. A pirate, John Levique made the first passage through the newly created pass. Hence the name. Exactly 176 years, to the day. Great memories.

      Many passes on barrier Islands were the open or closed by hurricanes in the past .in Sarasota midnight pass, it was unnatural closed by human activity the state spends billions of dollars to replenish sand that moved by nature but rich people get the tax payer to fight a losing battle...or talk to the dutch.on how to really do it.

      Nope... those hurricanes will keep happening evermore. Helene was a point blank shot that went from disturbance in the Gulf to killer monster in 3 days. The next one might only take 2 and aim straight for Tampa. This one was just a glancing blow... Time to rethink living in a natural disaster prone area.

    • @Kuroth_
      @Kuroth_ 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@nereanimEven as a born and raised Floridian I was shocked at the speed this hurricane developed and smashed into us. On Tuesday it didn't even have a name, and on Thursday it was devastating communities along the Big bend. I have family up in western North Carolina, in the appalachians, and this storm system in the last 3 days has absolutely devastated areas up there through flooding as well. Rivers and creeks overflowing their banks by 6, 10 ft. Flooding historic downtown areas, they're saying this is like a one in 150 years storm as far as damage goes in that area.
      The speed that it showed up and the fact that there are already three more disturbances out there right now is really not fun to think about.

    As someone borne and raised in Florida now at 62+ years it's sad to see this happen to people. On the other side, it's sickening to see what has happen to all of our cost lines, beaches, rivers, lakes and streams. People have destroyed them all with this massive over crowding and massive over developing. I can remember going down A1A taking in the awesome look of the beach. Now all you can see is the backs of houses, Condos. apartment complexes, Pubs and restaurants. It's all gone forever to make way for people mostly from the North. Many have no clue to what this States was not many years ago and will never know now sadly.

    Owned by Ben Mallah. He has a lot of real estate in high hazard flood zones. No doubt that the swimming pool at his house is full of sand. As a 4th generation native of St. Petersburg that comes from a family that has developed a lot of property in Pinellas County, our motto was to stay away from the water. 1921 served a good lesson that many have forgotten. Had this been a direct hit, things would have been a lot worse.

      Agreed. Our peninsula can’t take Cat3+… majority of the structures are wood frame. Just a few are up to code with new builds. The storm surge in the bay could be 20-30ft…

      Thank you for informing people of the fact that Tampa has been directly hit. Most people today think that something has never happened before because they weren't around or alive when it happened. My father who passed lived on Long Island in 1936 and remembered a Cat 3 that hit . In some areas in NYC it was under 13 feet of water. Could you imagine the people running around crying... Climate Change ... 😂😂😂😂😂 If it happens today.

      @@vWaLLBangz Being a native of St. Petersburg, most residential homes are made of concrete block which for the most part is unreformed with a poured lentil at the top. By most standards however; Pinellas County has a fairly old housing stock with much of it being built in the post WW2 time period and not up to today's building codes for hurricane safety. The only wood frames I recall on most homes, are the second floors that were frequently added above the garages during the late 1960's, that was a popular addition to the house besides the Florida room which was usually added on first. That is why so many kitchens are no on an outside wall in those mid century homes. Typically, a one story, one or two car garage, and an L shaped floor plan, 3 or so bedrooms, terrazzo floors, tile roof, crank-out awning windows and unfinished garage with exposed roof rafters, low ceilings, textured wet plaster walls and the like. Mostly always on a slab foundation close to the ground in areas prone to flooding. Those are the homes I remember and a good number of them should be torn down and replaced.

      Most of the businesses are owned by wealthy individuals and conglomerates. They have the money to afford high insurance costs and they get a heafty payout in return thus why they're able to rebuild as fast as they do. Hurricanes to the wealthy and businesses means dollar signs and a new establishment. Little bit of clean-up, rebuilding and by next year serving tourist for the summer of 25' in new digs.
