@@alonzowilliams116 cool, you'll get great fun out of these bikes. They are a super reliable bike and pretty easy to maintain. As I only got around 1000 miles done on my bike before I started to restore it I havent done much in the way of mods. So far I have put on a new exhaust system, a double USB plug to charge my phone and go pro, Oxford heated grips and a gear indicator. If you have the budget for it I think the single best mod for these bikes would be to fit a good upgraded front brake master cylinder as the brakes wouldnt be brilliant on them or also one of my subscribers has said he fitted an upgraded rear shocl and it made it into a totally different bike.
Yeah they are a super reliable bike which you could ride for decades. Hope to go on a nice tour like that someday. Just working on painting the engine at the moment so hopefully get that video up in the next week or 2 when I get it in.
@@DarrenMcKinney1 I bought mine with 48800 km (if only that was true :)), during the first season added another 24k, now having around 108k total - just riding not so often. Almost no oil consumption, about 4l/100km fuel consumption on a highway (for calm cruising, of course :)) etc. I could talk about that pony for ages!
@@maciej.miszczak There should be plenty of life in my old girl then as there’s only 15k miles on it. Only got out a few times this year but she was faultless. My brother owns one too and he likes to find the 11,000 rpm mark but it never complains!
@@user-hd2bu6hv2r Yes, my GSXF doesn't like staying in traffic jams, especially on hot days. Under some extreme conditions (summer in Paris, Italy or even in Poland) the engine may even cut out while starting on a green light, but it happens rather very seldom. I thought about installing a fan, but for now I rather generally try to avoid staying in traffic jams for long time and prefer longer hauls. But to sum up: yes, engine overheat may be an issue under some circumstances.
Great video, super helpful for a beginner! Bought myself a Katana last year and happened upon your video while I'm getting ready to do the maintenance prior to riding season starting again. When you removed the tank, did you dump the contents first? If you did, what's the best way to remove all the fuel?
Thanks for the great comment josh. I removed the fuel tank and then set it up on a bench and connected a length of hose to the valve. I then put this hose into a fuel can and turned the valve to the prime position. This let almost all of the fuel out. I hope this helps and anything else I can help with leave me a message. Thanks
I've just bought an 04 one of these....it's my first 'big' bike and I love it....hoping to pick up some maintenance tips from these video's, cheers!!! And just need to pass my mod2 to ride it....exam was cancelled due to lockdown
This is my first big bike too. Yeah I have had this bike from June and only passed my test back in August too which got badly delayed due to the lockdown so I know only too well the pain of opening that garage door and looking at the bike and not being allowed to take it out yet. I have balanced the carbs on this bike before and I'll be doing a future video on it as well as caliper and master cylinder rebuilds as this bike lay about a lot before I got it and was not well cared for unfortunately. If you ever need any videos made on any job on these bikes dont be afraid to ask and I'll do my best to get a video up and help you out.

I've got a few jobs to do on mine, nothing too major though just replace pads front and back and sort a weird quirk where if you leave it on side stand it's a fookin dog to start. I just crashed my 01 750 I need to replace the signal generator cover because I cracked and I was wondering we’re all the bolt on points we’re on the bike this is a super good video
Cool. Hopefully it’s not in too bad a condition when you get it stripped down. I was very lucky that mine was in excellent shape (lack of rust anyway). Keep us posted how you get on with it
Sorry for the slow reply Steven. Yes I run motul 10w40. The best value with still a really good oil would be the 5100 series oil or for wven better you could go for the 7100 series

I have contacted you before as I have the same motorbike as you (in not that good condition 😅) I have noticed I have a white smoke coming out of the exhaust, I was thinking it could be condensation but the smoke look like it's a heavy smoke, do you have any idea of could it be? Hi Gael, happy new year to you too. If you are sure it’s not fuel or oil that may be in the exhaust and being burnt off it has to be either the valve stem oil seals or a bit of blow by at the piston rings then as we know it’s not water lol. Is there many miles on your bike?
@@DarrenMcKinney1 ,the mileage is 21000 miles, how could I know if its fuel not being burnt properly? Is it easy to replace the piston rings or the valves stem o'rings?
@@gaelk3055 not a lot of miles for one of these so it’s surprising your having trouble. if it was fuel in the exhaust it would burn off really quick and if it was over fuelling it almost certainly wouldn’t be running right. Does it smoke all the time or only until it warms up or anything?
Good afternoon, I had a quick look earlier, I started the bike and I can come firm now the smoke smell petrol, it did start well and the smoke came out after a minute, I left the engine warmed up but the smoke was a bit less. Do you think its a carburator problem?
@@gaelk3055 yeah it does sound like it with description and it would make more sense than oil because these engines are literally bullet proof. I know of one still going to well that was red lined in almost every gear all it’s 35,000 mile life and it never complained. I would get a carb overhaul kit ordered up and you can check out my carb rebuild video on these which shows you every step of the way. They aren’t a very complicated carb and you shouldn’t have any problems doing it. Any questions about this don’t be after to ask
I just got a 1998 model a month ago and it looks axactly how yours looks at 7:36 and have decided to turn into a streetfighter type look and I'm having tons of issues with the bike one after another I'm gonna watch the series from start to finish hope it helps
1:01 LOL, Reminds me of my 87 FZR 1000 that i'm restoring at the moment, i found a similar abomination on the stock exhaust, why do people do bodges like that?
I picked up a 2001 gsx600f. Im able to get it turn over via jumping the solenoid but no spark. Bypassed kickstand switch as it wemt bad. Clutch switch works. And my neutral light wont come on even tho bike is in neutral? How would i go as far as testing the 3 wire nuetral sensor switch? Thank yiu

Yeah I don’t get it. This bike did not get the proper maintenance it deserved before I bought it.
