I doubt you’ll come back and read this, but I just want to say thanks for all that you’re putting out there, Crafsman. I’m a professor at a community college, and my favorite day of the semester these days in the Humanities class I teach is when I introduce my students to you. Anytime I’m only feeling and seeing the negative, destructive, divisive side of the internet, I can point to you for reassurance that the kind-hearted, childlike, inquisitive, creative folks outnumber and mean more than the selfish, childish, obstinate, destructive folks in our world. I’m so grateful that you share what you do with us with the style and heart that you put into it. All the years of geeking out over this stuff is really coming into it’s own in what you’re making and who you’re reaching. Congrats and, once more, thanks.

I love that Craftmama is supportive. It makes a huge difference in a persons live when you have a spouse that is encouraging and lovingly giving you the space you need to create... We are blessed to have the spouses that we have....
This really proves it. Crafsman is a Renaissance Man. Makin a living with a shovel. Goin back to get a degree and becoming self employed, to making action figures, and sculpting, to animating and self teaching new techniques. CrafsMan you are a real inspiration. As a person trying to learn new things while still working. You remind me it can be done. Thank you.
My favorite part of this video is where you go inside to tell crafsmama about what you're doing, she tells you how great that is and shares in your excitement, and you tell us how important that encouragement is. My crafsmama is the same, and I can't be crafting or creating without her support. Thumbs up to all those awesome crafsmamas out there 👍
I've been an artist for 30 years and for the last 15 years I've been unable to motivate myself to do any real personal projects but this video reignites my love for animation like this. And programs have come far so it should be way easier now and I'm excited to see what I can come up with. Thanks crafsman
"That's Economy!" Is my new catch. "Sir, you did such a fine job on this in such a short time" "that's Economy!" "I wanna be like you when I grow up, always so positive" "that's Economy!" "Sir, I have your lab results here and its stage 3 stuphalotosis." *holding back tears* "that's Economy!"
"economy" is a term used to describe artistic processes which don't fiddle around but get right to it. It's often used to describe drawing and painting techniques.

" In this universe, some of us 55 year old kids are pretty lucky to have the CrafsMan as our art teacher.... even if he does look spookyly like a paper bag at times.. or maybe I just imagined that bit..
Low-key The CrafsMan is one of the funniest people I've ever watched on TH-cam. Like, GENUINE kinda funny, but I know you're putting a lot of work into it behind the scenes.
you're not "supposed to" be doing any particular thing on your channel. We love seeing you do things you are passionate about, so you do what you want to do and we'll keep watching you for your passion and enthusiasm and grace. Great stuff.
I think what people are forgetting is that this only works until you want to rotate the character/ camera, make him move his arms (If he has any), in front of his body, maybe cross over another character in the background. At that point you would definetly need to redraw the figure for every few frames, since distortion can only get you so far. Still a reaaally cool video, will try this out myself, have a lot of doodles that this could work with! :D
Some good points there! It makes me want to do a more immersive 3D version, but keeping the effect. I've experimented with a "paper character" in a real world. The idea being that he's always flat, and poses only read when facing the camera... if he turns sideways, he basically disappears. :D But this is good stuff to think about!
"And then I make the journey back through the woods to my animation studio, AKA uh SteadyCraftin workshop...and it's still renderin'." I love the way you tell a story!
I liked this video so much, I clicked the "thumbs up" button five times. One time for Keith Lango, who inspired me so much when I was first wanting to get into animation. One time for talking Vegetables. One time because I saw my old animation book that I lost somewhere in storage. One time because CrafsMan has inspired me to want to start animating again. And one time because I really liked the video. I would have probably clicked it a few more times, but that was already a lot of clicking and I needed to keep my clicking finger fresh for other things that I need to click on elsewhere.
I am thoroughly impressed with your ever expansive set of skills! Bravo! You never cease to amaze me. I had no idea you that you knew so much about animation and Adobe After Effects. I will be showing this to my 2D Animation students AND to my motion graphics class. What a wonderful way to bring old and new technology together. You had me at Free Range Chicken... but this... just wow!
Like I don’t ever plan on animating or hydrodipping or even whittling ... but I love the variety and education this channel provides .... makes me want to try new things ... you out a lot of love in this channel crafsman ... thank you ❤️
Im so impressed with everything in this. The humor, the advice, the honesty, the family values, the editing... literally all of your effort. You deserve a millions subs Craftman (and Craftmama)
Awesome that you mentioned the jittery thing. I remember a long time ago, watching a show about Jim Henson, and he mentioned the one way to make the puppets feel more real was to make sure they were always moving. Even if they weren't talking, something needed to be moving. I don't know why, but that always stuck with me. I'm not even into animation or puppets or anything like that, but I absolutely LOVE your channel. You just remind me of my family, the ones I miss the most. Thank you. Keep steady craftin'.
As a professional animator for TV (currently working on The Loud House, it's a Nickelodeon show) I'm looking forward to more animation, even if it's just simple stuff. Nothing wrong with simple animation
Crafsman! I noticed the smooth music goin on in the background. Super fun and a nice effect. Thank you for another wonderful video! You inspire me each day! Can't wait to teach my future students about you.

In some ways I envy you. More specifically, I envy the times that you have chosen to practice this craft. I became interested in it at a time when the available tools consisted of Granddad's 8mm (single frame capable) movie camera, a drawing table your Dad helped you build with frosted glass and a couple of florescent lights mounted underneath, a reel to reel tape recorder you delivered morning news papers for two years to be able buy from Sears, and your Mom yelling at you at 3 in the morning to quit making noises, turn out the lights and go to bed because tomorrow was a school day. I actually did go to college for it, but the tools, although more professional and expensive, were no more sophisticated than what I had used as a teenager. Anyway, these are great video "tutorials" I just discovered today. I'm going to have fun watching your archives.
Man I'm not ever going to do any animation but I loved this video, I always enjoy learning about other folks processes and work flows. I always learn something watching your videos, sometimes its a shortcut or a new medium or even a life lesson. Thanks for sharing.
I admire you Crafsman. I went to school for animation, I understand the amount of time and effort as a one man show. It took me 2 weeks doing a 30 sec pencil test. Love your style.
Animation is near and dear to my heart so seeing more of this from Crafsman is a complete joy! Also I think everyone will continue to love what you do no matter what the channel is called as long as you continue doing what you love to do.
This channel is so fantastic, I love that CraftsMan is out here making things accessible to people and just being a great person while doing it. I've learned so many cool things from this channel
I find it uplifting watching your videos. So many different projects, so many different methods to create them. With inspiration from watching your channel, I've been overcoming my issues with self doubt and have started my own adventures in crafting. I've recently purchased and Elegoo Mars to create 28mm miniatures for use in Dungeons and Dragons with my daughters. We've sat together and have designed custom characters to 3d print. I owe you for helping me find another way to spend time having constructive fun with my kiddos. I would like for you to know, your encouragement HAS made a difference in folks lives. I can't thank you enough for what you share and the kindness you display throughout your videos, the world could use more SteadyCraft'n.
Craftsman I just found you... standing ovation from me. You said so much about so many things in this video. The presentation is phenomenal. The soul shines. The history of a dream saved away and returned to. The relationship with the wife. The process. The stick-to-it to integrate new technology platforms. My grandfather who served in ww2 used to always say two things to me.... work simplification and economy. Great stuff sir😁
TheCrafsMan SteadyCraftin my grandfather also worked at DuPont. I noticed on your 8mm film that it was a DuPont safety video. My grandfather was in charge of the safety program at the neoprene plant Cain run road in Louisville. If you also worked at DuPont in safety you might know him:)
So nice to hear Keith Lango being an influence. We used to use Electric Image back in the day, before he started working at Big Idea. EI was not a great character animation package but he could work miracles with it and was always generous with feedback and advice. A great guy and an a real inspiration.
while many people are obviously connecting with the word "economy", I truly hope the word for 2020 turns out to be "Love". We need that right now and your videos emanate that, in spades. You are such an inspiration to all of us and I appreciate what you do. Keep on brother !
You are the first TH-camr I've run into that knows PNG is actually pronounced, "Ping", and that saying the letters is just an alternative. That alone put a smile on my face.
Crafsman, I love the work that you know. You and Gene are unique and amazing. You're a born teacher and a blessed man. Thank you for sharing your life knowledge, your witty intelligence and the awesome way you make folks laugh in your productions. You've made a huge impact on me and many others. Please never stop steady craftin... you are loved and appreciated more than you know.
I’ve never thought about animation I am not an animator I’ve never seek out information about animation but somehow this video ended up being recommended to me and I conclude that this is gold. Absolute gold in full to the brim with hilarity. Amazing and inspirational. I would recommend this to anybody from any walk of life.
NEED to see more in dept of how "jitter" effect is achieved. Most time consuming part of my animating is redrawing each frame (on twos) to achieve that jitter effect.
While I don't plan on animating I do really like how you come across and try your best to make it user friendly for everyone, you're using programs that are free and you're showing us how to get the most out of the "older" and free programs. Never animated but I was with you on all the stuff you were doing. So thanks crafsman, you're a real G.
This has really made me want to get back into animation. I pitched a storyboard to Frederator a few years ago only to get shot down. I haven't revisited the idea since. Thanks for reinvigorating that passion!
Nice process! What I love about animation is that there is no wrong or right way... the way that works for you is the way to do it :) Nice work, as always!
I feel like people have missed one of the stronger points of this video. Wild, naturally occurring moon pies should be coveted and sought after, they are light...fluffy..and delicious.
Only discovered your videos today and I'm an instant fan. TH-cam and Patreon aren't perfect platforms, but I LOVE that people are finding ways through them to make it possible to do more of what they're passionate about -- and then the rest of us get to go along for the ride. I'm so curious about EVERYTHING, and collect hobbies like mad, but there are only so many hours in the day! And when you create things, you never know what random activity or skill is going to turn out to be useful to some other activity, skill, or project, you know? Even if I never animate anything, I feel like watching this video stretched my understanding of ways to solve creative problems, in ways I might not have considered if I hadn't watched it. It's so useful. (And interesting!) I'm so glad I stumbled over this channel.
I absolutely love this new style of video. I (and probably a lot more people) would love to see animation build videos where you show us how you make animations like this one and then play them at the end. I’d also really enjoy watching just your animations!
CrafsMan, you make whatever you want on your channel. It don't matter what people expect. You do what makes you happy & I assure you, we'll be happy too. I love seeing everything you do. You inspire me in so many different ways & I've discovered a whole lot of things because of you. You keep on crafting in every direction. :D Thanks for all that you do.
That, followed by, "later I went back to school and got a degree", got an instant like from me. He made the choice to get his bills paid with hard work, without giving up on future opportunities.
I’m so happy that you’re getting to return to animation and live your dream. Nobody deserves it more than you do !!! for real !!don’t let anybody ever tell you different. You’ve helped me a tremendous amount in dealing with my stress
This brings me back to animation school we started with pencil drawings and moved on to stop motion with all kinds of things, sand, paper, puppets, even meat. All animated on the twos.
"Baby I couldn't do any of this stuff without your support" What an amazing human being you are! You sound like an amazing person to be around and a great inspiration to everyone.
Well, you did it again, you floored me, I actually downloaded this and I’m going to try and take as many notes as I can to try animation again, I have the updated version of procreate with the animation feature and my first attempt was the bouncing ball and, well, it was more of a deflated ball, I guess I was a little too and I put it aside until I gained some courage to have a go at it again, so here I am. I won’t give up, I know it take some time to get the hang of this, again the thing I like about your videos is that you keep thing’s simple and you look for other ways if it doesn’t work the first time around, thanks again and keep SteadyCraftin 👍🏻
Thank you ! My wife and I have been talking about trying to do some animation. I think that you just answered alot of our questions. Thanks , that is the look we've been looking for.
My man!! This is next level. So happy for you getting to where you could put this out. And proud of you for doing a great job. You thought the ship took off before? This candle is lit and you are headed to Mars! Amazing work.
a lovely quicker way for mouth/eye poses is to put them in their own comp in after effects all layered up together. then sequence them on 1 frame each. then just do a time remap in your main comp
I love your videos, and wanted to jump back to this oldie due to a recent project. It happens to be a vid I skipped, in which you not only dive into the technical details, but also share a great deal about your own personal progress. Just goes to show, the Crafsman videos can't be skipped
How you used to animate with drawing multiple drawings on paper is what I used to do too! I as well need to get back into animating, especially now that you showed how you can get that jittery motion on after effects (I'm more a fan of that than the clean computer animations, but I still appreciate it). That looks like a life and time saver!
This man don't miss! Im taking all these tips and running with them. Ive always wanted to do animations but didnt like the long process. This process is Economy. Thank you
I found your channel because I wanted to learn more about stop motion animation! I found your video talking about Dragonframe. To be honest, it was the first time someone explained the software and it actually made sense to me. Thank you, CrafsMan.
Craft is the skill to make things. You certainly have a lot of skill in many interesting things. It's your channel and we think you're great, you can do what ever you want.
Something you might enjoy - look up Bob Godfrey. He was a British animator, who did a BBC series on traditional animation in the early 1970s, and was the animator on the (British national treasure) Roobarb and Custard tv show. Sadly, Bob passed away in 2013.
That was probably some kid that doesn't have the life experience and wherewithal to recognise an OG. You're a true original, and I think most of us recognise that.
Ive loved your videos for a long time, even though I dont do much actual craftin' myself. These recent videos overlap with my own hobbies and interests in a big way, and it makes the videos feel extra special to me. Thanks for sharing :)

The fuzzy version of the animation is definitely more interesting and handmade-looking. Your characters are so CUTE!
NEED to see more in dept of how "jitter" effect is achieved. Most time consuming part of my animating is redrawing each frame (on twos) to achieve that jitter effect.
Another benefit of vector art is that can be resized without any loss of resolution.
It dont matter much what the channel is called - your animations are highly anticipated!
SICK JACKET
They need a bigger like button for me to hit when I watch your videos. Always fun and I can't thumbs up them enough.
After Effects is a beast. Very cool to see what you were able to accomplish with it!
15:47 "I don't want to learn blender"
Speaking as a moderately advanced blender user, big mood.
I've tried to learn blender several times, but the learning curve is like ... th-cam.com/video/F4CX-9lkRMQ/w-d-xo.html
@@ElizabethGreene I was low key expecting this to be a rick roll
I absolutely love this new style of video. I (and probably a lot more people) would love to see animation build videos where you show us how you make animations like this one and then play them at the end. I’d also really enjoy watching just your animations!
Thank you for the feedback!
I didn't even know I was interested in animation until this video. Thank you so much for sharing your process ❤️
"pay bills with a shovel". Hahah the saddest/funniest thing I've heard in a long time... That's a shirt logo for sure
aint nothin wrong with paying your bills with physical labor, its just hard work and you get old quick.
@@salamilid7615 oh I know, I do it myself, that's what brought it home! Ha
My husband and I both did our time paying bills with a shovel in the early days our family
You have to do what you have to do man. That's how you become a responsible and capable adult.
That, followed by, "later I went back to school and got a degree", got an instant like from me. He made the choice to get his bills paid with hard work, without giving up on future opportunities.
You are a national treasure, @crafsman. You never, ever, disappoint! I have years of art training and you teach me new things all the time.
@10:28 "Posterize time, 12 frames per second... right thur, right thur" I love this dude!!!
animations count as crafting! Do whatever you feel in your heart Craftsman we love you!
I’m so happy that you’re getting to return to animation and live your dream. Nobody deserves it more than you do !!!
for real !!don’t let anybody ever tell you different. You’ve helped me a tremendous amount in dealing with my stress
That comment about crafsmama beating the kids had me rolling in stitches laughing
I love the 'look' of your animation, Crafsman and this was a great explanation of your process.
I've never considered the intricacies of animation, but this was incredibly interesting! Thanks, Crafsman!
Crafsman never ceases to amaze. This is easily one of his best vids. Keep Steady Craftin', my man
“It look like ol’ craf mamma beatin the kids” IM FLOORED HAHA
We need a CrafMama character.
yeeeeessssss
Crafmama is not a character. She has character, you know.
This brings me back to animation school we started with pencil drawings and moved on to stop motion with all kinds of things, sand, paper, puppets, even meat. All animated on the twos.
"Baby I couldn't do any of this stuff without your support"
What an amazing human being you are!
Braaaaaad! Mannnnn, this is very kind of you.
Absolutely brilliant my friend. - Eric.
Somebody in TV needs to pick you up and put you on TV. In my eyes you're the new and improved Mr. Rogers/crafs show, but for older crasfspeoples.
Tutti B that is exactly what I was thinking!
a lovely quicker way for mouth/eye poses is to put them in their own comp in after effects all layered up together. then sequence them on 1 frame each. then just do a time remap in your main comp
Love this already, but now I am craving a "Moon Pie"! ;)
I swear, I could listen to you talk about anything all day long.
We love you and all you have to teach us 💙. Economy is the word for 2020 legit. Keep steadycraftin animatin 🙌🏼
Really glad to read this, Angela! :D
This man don't miss! Im taking all these tips and running with them. Ive always wanted to do animations but didnt like the long process. This process is Economy. Thank you
"... and the computer never gets tired of doing that. You know? Thank you computer!"
H I L A R I O U S ! ! !
Whaaaaa?! You are a gift to this universe. Your VO are so nuanced. I love it.
That was probably some kid that doesn't have the life experience and wherewithal to recognise an OG. You're a true original, and I think most of us recognise that.
Crafsman, You’re videos always make me feel relaxed. Thank you for sharing your talent and love for crafts.
I love the organic look. It feels more real. The very clean look seems almost sterile to me. Thank you Crafsman.
TH-cam needs to add a ❤ (Loved it) button.... The CrafsMan would feel the love we all have for him!!
Oh dang, now you sparked an old animation bug in me again, Crafsman!
15 seconds in and i'm hooked! Love your energy and love your style!! You most definitely got a new Subscriber outta me!
Thank you so much!
I know nothing about animation. Now I know lots of things and laughed in the process. Thank you kind Crafsman..
Ive loved your videos for a long time, even though I dont do much actual craftin' myself. These recent videos overlap with my own hobbies and interests in a big way, and it makes the videos feel extra special to me. Thanks for sharing :)
I really appreciate this comment, Tim! Thank you for hanging with me all this time!
as someone doing its first animation project (myself), you video was a tremendous help! Thanks a lot for all the information, tips and commentaries! Really, I can not thank you enought!
