Thank you for this beautiful video. I have been doing a lot of walking in Crete, also along the South coast, but I haven't done Sougia-Agia Roumeli yet, because of the warnings on the internet. But maybe now I'll give it a try, since you did not seem to have too many difficulties. It must have been a very warm walk, so I must congratulate you with your great physical condition.

Thank you for your answer. I am definitely going to try it and let it be up to my own judgement whether it's a risk or a nuisance. Like any sensible person always will do! I hope you will come back to Crete and make more videos. I like to se videos by people who are as adventurous and nature-loving as myself. And I also like to camp and enjoy the outdoors!

Thanks for the comment... Yes, you should try it as it really isn't dangerous at all.. you just need some sturdy boots and careful footing at places... The worst bit isn't where the track is narrow and slanting, but where it descends to tripiti (direction Sougia -Aia Roumeli). Here the path disappears in a steep scree slope which needs patience and trekking poles to negotiate.. not to mention the willingness to bum scramble... But all in all, it is definitely more of a nuisance than a risk...

My shelter was actually a Integral Designs Sil Poncho, a piece of rain gear pressed into service as a lightweight wind breaker and shade giver. It performed pretty well, but not as well as the silver, reflective-coated tarps available in Greece...

Hi, thanks for your comment! As for water, there is only one spring on the whole route, the one I show in my video. You might also be able to get water at the beekeeper's house at Sidoni beach just east of the Spring, or at the Agios Antonios Church about an hour or so east of Sougia (water taxis also visit here). I don't think it will be any different on your legs walking east or west, so maybe you should think about location of water in order to make up your mind?

Hey thanks for this... I was going to return to Crete this year but the flights were really expensive... so I am off to the Pyrenees instead... If you do go to Crete, I look forward to your videos! Good luck...

Hi, great video while I was searching informations on this hike I dream about for years. But now I'll do that mid June from Agia Roumelli. What do you think? Is it better to start in Sougia or Agia Roumelli? Also I'll do that in 3 days to walk only in the morning and to enjoy the surroundings, beaches and being alone. I don't want to carry ten liters of water with me. I saw that there was some small springs. Are they several? Where are they located exactly? Thanks again for this wonderful video.

I am afraid I don't make videos. I try to go as light-weight as possible to make the walks more enjoyable. So I enjoy other people's videos very much, taking only a few photos with the mobile phone myself. I think the videos do the landscape more justice. I am actually going to Crete next week for 14 days. Good luck to you in the Pyrenees.

Thanks a lot for your answer! I checked the pictures on FB. Can you tell me the name of your shelter? I will have only a mosquito net and a shelter should be good because it's often windy there.
