  • One legendary trail!
80km of coastal hiking from east to west!
From Chora Sfakion to Elafonisi, passing by Loutro, Marmara, Agios Pavlos, Agia Roumeli, Domata, Trypiti, Sougia, Lissos, Gialiskari, Paleochora, Krios, Vienna, Pachia Ammoutsa and Kedrodasos.
Exotic beaches, amazing scenes, iconic locations, remote villages!
Come along for an epic hike, on the best and toughest trail on the island!
    This is the Cretan E4!
The second chapter is about the hike from Agia Roumeli to Sougia. The trail is challenging from the very start. From Agia Roumeli you climb through a pine forrest in a steep ascent of 500 meters in about 3 km. Then you decent to Domata beach, perhaps the highlight of the hike. From Domata you continue passing multiple times next to cliffs. Eventually you reach Sedoni beach. Just next to Sedoni is Trypiti beach, an eere bach with strange rocks. You enter the Trypiti gorge and then you turn left to climb out of the gorge, ascending a little over 300 meters. Then ita a little less than 10 km to the village of Sougia.
    ATTENTION!
    ONLY ATTEMPT THIS HIKE

-if you are an experienced hiker
-if you have adequate water and food
    Wikiloc Trail :
(This is the full hike from Chora Sfakion to Sougia, but you can still use it for the Agia Roumeli to Sougia part)

Agia Roumeli to Sougia is a full day hike, as is a distance of 22km with about 1500m elevation gain. But still you would have to be in an excellent physical state and quite experienced. Most people usually split this hike in two parts, camping at Domata beach. That way the hike is a lot easier and enjoyable.
    Tips and Tricks :
This hike goes through very remote and desolate locations. There will be no chance for water replenishment. Be sure that you have enough water with you. I would suggest at least 5 liters, as Crete is really hot , especially during summer. Take the heat factor into consideration
The point where you hike next to cliffs can be scary but with caution it should be no problem.
Start the hike as early as possible so as to avoid much of the midday heat. I would recommend to stop around 13:00, find some shade, rest and wait the midday heat to pass. Start again at 16:00. Of course to do that you must move quite fast.

Awesome video. This year I saw this route when I went to Gavdos by boat. The boat took 1.5h for this route. Cant imagine how insanely conditioned you must be to be able to pull this off, especially in the heat.

@@salzstreuer8065 haha glad you liked the video. Actually the weather helped a lot. It was very cloudy and I did the hard part( Agia Roumeli to Domata) in the shade.
