I feel that. For a long time, my old man and I had a similar relationship. Then he came back with PTSD and retired with 30 years of service. Got prescribed the same meds they gave me. We finally saw each other man to man. I told him everything I needed to say. How much I hate the military and this country for taking my father away from me when I was the one who needed him. Not the military who only saw him as another expendable asset, when to me he was always my fucking hero. He could be sitting across from me at the fucking dinner table but he's still over there, fighting battles no one asked him to be a part of! While I'm forced to be put on medication that stunted my growth and left me with permanent side effects which I'll be judged for. He said he genuinely believes I'm going to be a serial killer. My hero. My father. I was hurt by that for a long time. Then I grew from it. I have a few nieces and an amazing nephew. I asked myself, if my nephew was standing beside me right now, who do I want him to look up at me and see? How would that person act? That little boy saved my soul, and I'm going to do everything I can to be the man I want him to see in me. I'm not my father. I am me. I get to define what that means. I chose to let go of the pain and negativity from my father and my relationship, and since then, we've been bonding better. I don't think I love my father, I'm not even sure I really like him. But I respect him and now I see him more as a mentor. It helps reduce the emotional swelling of expectations on both sides. Edit; The meds they gave him were an eye opener cuz he saw what they did to me. It was so bad it served as an equalizer for us. Nothing quite levels the playing field like watching your son get the shit kicked out of him and then a decade or so later you get the shit kicked outta you too by the same thing.
Being beat was bad enough, but in a fucked up way, some parents do it because they love their kid and the only way they know to discourage bad behavior is through fear. But when you know, your not even good enough for the belt, to be beat, you know they dont love or value you. In those cases, not being beat hurts so much more than if you were. It tears you up inside.
Soldier Boy is the by far the best character in The Boys. All of his lines and scenes are iconic and equal parts funny and terrifying (like when he smoked MM’s tear gas grenade). He’s amazing.
These two had my favorite dynamic in the show. Two men being two men Men who’ve suffered Lost Fought And cried For anything to stop the pain. But there is only pain.
The physical abuse will build anger and resentment towards the abuser, but the wording and constant criticism will build doubt and a terrible self esteem in the abused.
People sleep on Jensen too much. People don't give him enough credit for the caliber of actor that he is, because he is a fantastic actor. He was sort of stuck within the world of Supernatural for so long, and as a Supernatural fan, I didn't mind that at all, but now that it's over and done with, I just hope that he continues to get new roles, because he definitely deserves them.
My father was a naval commodore who never acknowledged my mental disorders, refused to pay for my medication, treatment, or schooling, and continues to refuse to pay child support even though I’m classified as a disabled individual by the federal government. All because nothing can ever satisfy him. Not even the dozens of women he slept with while he was still married to my mother
Mine is similar. He somehow holds it against me that I have PTSD after a stint of homelessness (which was because he literally stole my home out from under my nose during lockdown)
The federal government would classify a hangnail as a disability if they could get away with it. The vast majority of "mental disorders" are just Corrupt Doctors taking payoffs from Big Pharma to get as many people dependent on their overpriced drugs as possible. I doubt you know much about your father's sex life that didn't come from your angry mother. Maybe stop blaming him for everything wrong in your life for five minutes and try seeing his side of things. He didn't become a naval commander by coddling weakness. That doesn't mean he doesn't care.

Shows and media are meant to portray themes and ideas, getting people talking is the point. It’s not about the fake characters or situations but what they represent and how they can draw parallels to real life. Sure there’s a lot of problems with Hollywood and the film industry as a whole but that shouldn’t keep people from enjoying and talking about a good show
I dont think physical abuse is mainly about physical abuse since if its not some brutal damage the body will heal... But generally these kids suffer terror aswell from the abusive parent. Not just beating but constant fear amd being on the edge and stay alerted. It is also a psycological abuse included.
It's really sad when you sacrifice you body, health and sanity to impress someone you care for, and they will always find an excuse to put you down. Worst part is, I see this happen soo many times where the child who has suffered this treatment, more often than not, has the same behavior towards his kids. It's really a toxic cycle, and I wish there was a way to prevent it for all kids of every generation.
I'm sure plenty of samurai dads in the JP feudal era were also disappointed if their sons decided to pick up guns, instead, but we all know how that went, right?
"using his father's influence" is one way to look at it but I have another theory.. "Shortcut" for those that don't know is men live life with the mere help of their own mental and physical abilities and try as hard as they can to make it in life. So he took a shortcut in life.. so basically life is definitely now easier for him to live and navigate.. so life is so easy for him compared to others who try their own .so that's cheating.
Always been. Kids with army parents especially suffering from PTSD army parents always fuck up their kids. And the muritard war machine feeds on this also. Every generation ends up more damaged than the previous because of this.
@@tom_hurstIt was mid, i didn't like too much the characters, actually, i barely even remember their names. But well, it served well for the wait of the next season of The Boys.
No. He did. He used his father's influence and name to get what he wanted instead of earning for the spot in the tryouts. True, there is a risk, but so is being an actual soldier in WW2. While he acted and was a poster boy for the military, actual normal people fought and died while he essentially did nothing for the war effort but did a song and dance acting like a soldier. It wasn't much later. He was on the front lines, and we all saw what kind of person he was at that point.

Was thinking about giving up watching the series cuz Homelander was never afraid of anything,...bt when he came, well show became freaking amazing and intense. Both heroes and villains now fear something dark and twisted
I am legitimately SHOCKED that Soldier Boy wasn't regularly beaten as a child, let alone never! Even more so considering when he was born. That's definitely a bet I would've lost.
People are missing the fact that even after he got super powers soldier boy still did nothing... They mention that he didn't participate in D day he turned up after for press and they said he stormed the beaches. I honestly wish they'd explored butcher and soldier boy a little more since butcher is the real deal. I a real soldier it'd have been interesting to see a little more about what soldier boy thinks in this regard.
I get the impression (from what I’ve seen of the show) that he actually WAS a soldier. In his action scenes, it’s clear that he’s had military/combat training of some kind. And there’s Stan Edgar’s line about Soldier Boy killing Nazis by the dozen. So he was probably a real deal in that he actually did fight, but a fraud in that he never stormed Normandy. Others have pointed out that it’s also possible that the battles he DID fight in were strategically chosen by his superiors: ones where he saw action, but were clearly in the Allies favor. I’m not saying HE chose these battles. Despite his faults, he has courage, and would’ve wanted to be where the action was, where he could do some good. But his superiors probably didn’t want to risk putting their one existing super hero into a guaranteed meat grinder, where death was certain. Hence, their strategic placement of him in “controlled” battles. Just my 2 cents.
There are some people that will never approve of you no matter how hard you try or how great you succeed. These are the people you need to move on from, but sadly, are often the ones people put the most time and effort trying to impress.

I'm guessing his dad might have been self made and probably got his steel business up during the depression, therefore his son achieving everything via the hard work of some nazi scientists would be the epitome of a lazy way to success. Had he enlisted and racked up some ranks as a normal human his dad would have probably felt differently
It not a shortcut if that's his only option. XD

He cried when he saw Homelander because he saw what his father saw. The old man wasn’t cruel he saw the truth.

@@MrPsychoticss No Soldier Boy said they were both disappointments. But they were disappointments in a different way. When Soldier Boy’s father emotionally abused him it wasn’t warranted. He didn’t really do anything to deserve it besides maybe being an unruly slacker and being kicked out of boarding school. Homelander was a murderous, narcissistic manchild when he met his father Soldier Boy. Soldier Boy was disappointed in his son because he turned out like he did as an adult. He was disappointed that he had to call his son a disappointment like his dad did to him. But when Soldier Boy was a teenager he wasn’t anything like Homelander, so he didn’t deserve that treatment. Jensen is a really underrated actor. He really grew into himself as an actor during the 15 seasons of Supernatural.
Season 1 he was still pretty wooden, by season 4 he could make you laugh and make you cry.
It's nice to see him get to flex his acting chops in a bigger budget, more widely watched show like The Boys.
I hope it only leads to bigger and better things for him.
Wish he was treating Jared better. SuperNatural was lightning in a bottle. It won't happen like that again. Take care and have fun!!! 😎😄😎
I actually disagree. Even during season 1 I noticed that his acting was really good. There wasn’t really anything “wooden” about it imo

Perhaps but Soldier Boy is clearly a much more benign personality than Homelander.
Homelander wants the adoration of the masses and has a contingency plan for global rule via systematic destruction if he doesn't get what he wants
Soldier Boy has no grand ambitions, just get revenge on a small number of specific individuals then and then just chill out and smoke or something. He has no motive or drive for large scale violence

Says he cheated and yet the father didnt realise he was the reason. Fathers are so significant in the development of the child. The Boys has a line up of characters with trash or absent fathers.
Yup
The funny part is his dad was right when he took a shortcut, didn't earn his way into the trials, didn't do shit to earn his abilities he cheated, granted his dad shouldn't have been a massive dick but still
You cant be like that to your kid and then get mad when they do anything to not be a dissappontment
I agree, and the worst part for him is that his son is doing the same.
Oh I get that my dad was like that sometimes but he was also ki d to me and wouldn't yell about it he would explain why what I did was wrong
I mean...if he's a monopolistic capitalist, he also probably took a shortcut lmfao. Didn't like the mirror he was lookin at probably.
His dad was wrong. The success rate and the survival for compound V back then was so low. Solider boy put his life on the line to attain that. He earned that shit.
Edit;
The meds they gave him were an eye opener cuz he saw what they did to me.
Maybe that should be your wake up call that you should probably stop doing what you're doing and do it differently.
Soldier Boy is the by far the best character in The Boys. All of his lines and scenes are iconic and equal parts funny and terrifying (like when he smoked MM’s tear gas grenade). He’s amazing.
It's because he sees himself as a hero but is incompetent. His actually mentally tough just unaware that his ego causes problems.

I’m sorry you had to grow up with that put up on you, by understanding how reprehensible his actions are you’re already 10 times the man he is
Mine is similar. He somehow holds it against me that I have PTSD after a stint of homelessness (which was because he literally stole my home out from under my nose during lockdown)
Can't the govt make him pay child support, especially if it's legally mandated?
The federal government would classify a hangnail as a disability if they could get away with it.
The vast majority of "mental disorders" are just Corrupt Doctors taking payoffs from Big Pharma to get as many people dependent on their overpriced drugs as possible.
I doubt you know much about your father's sex life that didn't come from your angry mother.
Maybe stop blaming him for everything wrong in your life for five minutes and try seeing his side of things. He didn't become a naval commander by coddling weakness. That doesn't mean he doesn't care.

Neglect can do far more damage than physical abuse.

No. Man they did Soldier Boy dirty. You can tell he’s trying to bond with butcher in this scene but butcher really didn’t care

This really hits hard when he confronts Homelander.
I am legitimately SHOCKED that Soldier Boy wasn't regularly beaten as a child, let alone never! Even more so considering when he was born. That's definitely a bet I would've lost.
Soldier Boy is a great and complex character, but I can't stand his fanboys
@@eyeofbrown1387Doesn't seem like death was certain for him anywhere
