    It’s great writing because the way his dad broke him down without laying a hand on him is exactly how Edgar would break homelander down. Both still feeling the effects of the older men in their lives.

    • @youngdiffi
      @youngdiffi หลายเดือนก่อน +756

      It’s gets even better, because Homelander looks at Soldier Boy as an escape from those feelings, he thinks that SB won’t treat him the same as Edgar did because he understands him. He’s hoping that together they can break the cycle of trauma, but SB still broken chooses to continue the cycle.

      Basically my dad. He was always working so during the week Basically abcent from my life. Literally. Even when it was my and my sisters birthday he didn't turn up until about 6 or 7pm. At the very most he might be in the house, but working from home.
      He isn't massive, but compared to my skinny body he is huge. But worst of all, because he was so absent for my childhood, I never learned to stand up for myself, and it only made it worse when I did do something wrong, he'd obliterate me with words.
      Even now I struggle to have a conversation with him about my life without him going into some pitch about how I'm in the wrong or that I need to be quiet and deal with it.

      Acting is someone who can ACT like a different person in a different movie/show. He is ACTING like Dean Winchester from supernatural 😂 which is how he acts in almost everything he is in. I’m not saying he is a bad soldier boy/ Dean Winchester what I am saying is his acting is not that great. Simply due to the fact that he has the same personality in most of the things he is in. Being comfortable in front of a camera and being recorded does not make you a good actor 🎭 if that were the case any porn star would would be considered a good actor/actress 😂

    One thing I find interesting is how butcher and Soldier Boy had dad with abuse. Butchers abuse focused more on the physical side that’s why he’s such a hard ass and in part is abusive to people around him like Hughie. That’s why when Solider Boy said his dad made sure he knew it Butcher immediately goes to the belt. But soldier Boys dad never touched him instead it was more mental. He never gave his son the attention or credit that he needed no matter how strong or what he did so even when he became the strongest man on the planet this dad still couldn’t give him the attention he wanted from his dad. This turns Solider boy into not only a physical abuser with Black Noir but also a narcissist because he tries to gain attention and praise his farther never did. I feel that.
    For a long time, my old man and I had a similar relationship. Then he came back with PTSD and retired with 30 years of service. Got prescribed the same meds they gave me. We finally saw each other man to man.
    I told him everything I needed to say. How much I hate the military and this country for taking my father away from me when I was the one who needed him. Not the military who only saw him as another expendable asset, when to me he was always my fucking hero.
    He could be sitting across from me at the fucking dinner table but he's still over there, fighting battles no one asked him to be a part of! While I'm forced to be put on medication that stunted my growth and left me with permanent side effects which I'll be judged for. He said he genuinely believes I'm going to be a serial killer. My hero. My father.
    I was hurt by that for a long time. Then I grew from it. I have a few nieces and an amazing nephew. I asked myself, if my nephew was standing beside me right now, who do I want him to look up at me and see? How would that person act?
    That little boy saved my soul, and I'm going to do everything I can to be the man I want him to see in me. I'm not my father. I am me. I get to define what that means.
    I chose to let go of the pain and negativity from my father and my relationship, and since then, we've been bonding better. I don't think I love my father, I'm not even sure I really like him. But I respect him and now I see him more as a mentor. It helps reduce the emotional swelling of expectations on both sides.
    Edit;
    The meds they gave him were an eye opener cuz he saw what they did to me. It was so bad it served as an equalizer for us. Nothing quite levels the playing field like watching your son get the shit kicked out of him and then a decade or so later you get the shit kicked outta you too by the same thing.

      No. He did. He used his father's influence and name to get what he wanted instead of earning for the spot in the tryouts. True, there is a risk, but so is being an actual soldier in WW2. While he acted and was a poster boy for the military, actual normal people fought and died while he essentially did nothing for the war effort but did a song and dance acting like a soldier. It wasn't much later. He was on the front lines, and we all saw what kind of person he was at that point.

      That's a good observation.
      But I have another theory "Shortcut" for those that don't know if men live life with the mere help of their own mental and physical abilities and try as hard as they can to make it in life. So he took a shortcut in life.. so basically life is definitely now easier for him to live and navigate.. so life is so easy for him compared to others who try their own .so that's cheating.
      But I like your approach as well because it fits as well

    Soldier Boy in this franchise is like Thanos in d mcu, the franchises cn stand without them but they give that special effects to the entire story, characters and audience. Was thinking about giving up watching the series cuz Homelander was never afraid of anything,...bt when he came, well show became freaking amazing and intense. Both heroes and villains now fear something dark and twisted

    Soldier boy is such a badass for seeing the fragility in homelander and pulling out the disappointment card😂

    No one talking about how soldier boy told homelander, his son, is a disappointment just like how his father told him. Its poetic in a way.

    I am legitimately SHOCKED that Soldier Boy wasn't regularly beaten as a child, let alone never! Even more so considering when he was born. That's definitely a bet I would've lost.

    People are missing the fact that even after he got super powers soldier boy still did nothing... They mention that he didn't participate in D day he turned up after for press and they said he stormed the beaches. I honestly wish they'd explored butcher and soldier boy a little more since butcher is the real deal. I a real soldier it'd have been interesting to see a little more about what soldier boy thinks in this regard.

      I get the impression (from what I’ve seen of the show) that he actually WAS a soldier. In his action scenes, it’s clear that he’s had military/combat training of some kind. And there’s Stan Edgar’s line about Soldier Boy killing Nazis by the dozen. So he was probably a real deal in that he actually did fight, but a fraud in that he never stormed Normandy. Others have pointed out that it’s also possible that the battles he DID fight in were strategically chosen by his superiors: ones where he saw action, but were clearly in the Allies favor. I’m not saying HE chose these battles. Despite his faults, he has courage, and would’ve wanted to be where the action was, where he could do some good. But his superiors probably didn’t want to risk putting their one existing super hero into a guaranteed meat grinder, where death was certain. Hence, their strategic placement of him in “controlled” battles. Just my 2 cents.

    There are some people that will never approve of you no matter how hard you try or how great you succeed. These are the people you need to move on from, but sadly, are often the ones people put the most time and effort trying to impress.

    Ironic how he repeats this to homelander, so many well nuanced things to take away from this scene that plays so well into soldier boys character

    I don’t care what people say soldier boy is far more human then homelander he is atleast capable of expressing how he feels telling is people fucked up shit happened to him rather then cry about it kill half a dozen people then scream and fly a away not a good guy but much closer to redemption then homelander
