As a Mexican. I can confirm I can carry 33% more things than your average guy and I also believe myself to have supremacy over other people which makes me as strong as a guy with a shield and a sword.
The Romans have likely the most convoluted way of balancing something with their infantry: double effect but counterbalanced missing the last armor upgrade and no gambesons but then a unique militia-line upgrade which more base armor. No supplies but faster production and charge attack but only after research. Also Romans have a unit being buffed by another unit type, although you could count saracen monks area healing and hussite wagons cover-mechanic as well here.
Koreans are also the only civ to get all generic gunpowder stuff (Hand Cannoneer, Bombard Cannon, Elite Cannon Galleon and Bombard Tower, that's why I did not say "units") fully upgraded, if you discount Heresy and Faith. They don't focus on Gun Powder, they focus on archers, siege, ships and towers, which happens to include every generic gun powder stuff. Malians are also missing every attack upgrade in Imp. No Blast Furnace, no Bracer, no Siege Engineer (though you could argue the Blast Furnace since Farimba does fully replace it for half your units). Aren't Saracens still the only civ with Knights in Post-Imp (So knights exist, Cavaliers do not)? Also, I wonder if they have the most fully upgraded units. Because most of their units are missing unit-line upgrades, like going from knight to cavalier, but not technologies. I think the only technologie affecting multiple units they are missing is shiprights. Of course, Spanish are only missing Siege Engineer (and Parthian Tactics, though the "affect multiple units" is a bit debatable there). Saracens should still win out most fully upgraded units since they have camels. Teutons have the least offensive Cavalry archer, missing HCA, Bracer and Thumb Ring, resulting in 9 attack with 2 seconds reload and poor accuracy, AND they miss Husbandry so they are not very fast. Vikings also are the only civ missing fire-ships and they have arguably the worst Cavalry Archers. It is funny, they used to have FU Arbalest, so their CA could theoretically only miss four techs: HCA, Parthian Tactics, Bloodlines and Husbandry. They miss all of that. Now they also miss Thumb Ring. Also, they are the only civ whose CA end up with less attack (10) than their foot archers (11).
Teutons have the better Castle Age CA, Vikings have the better Imp CA; Bracer is necessary to keep up with other civs also picking up last armors and/or Bracer in Imp.
The Lithuanians are the only civilization lacking the blacksmith infantry upgrades in imperial. Tatars are the only ones to lack Faith and heresy. Teutons are the only ones to have paladin, siege onager and BT.
I believe Saracens have the most categories of unit (ship, trade, cavalry etc.) that receive unique bonuses, getting bonuses for every unit type except infantry (and maybe trade if you don't count the market bonus)
I'm not sure about this one but Spanish and Berbers probably get the most mounted/range units available having both cav archers, and two mounted/ranged unique uniques, Conquistadors and Missionaries for Spanish and Camel Arches and Genitours for berbers.
I think Vietnamese gets the only civ bonus that turns into a team bonus now that cartography is free. So they basically get 2 TB. Bohemians get the on-site unit with highest base attack having access to HC.
I was waiting for this video for quite a while now. 1:41 - Isn't it Burgundians with all their eco techs one age earlier? 3:20 - Probably due to Castle Age Chemistry. 3:45 - Britons is the only civ that have Blast Furnace and Last cav armor but lacks both Bloodline and Paladin. 4:15 - Bulgarians is the only civ that lacks both xbow and HC. 4:30 - Burgundians is the only civ with Paladin, last attack and armor but lacks Bloodlines. 6:25 - Chinese is the only civ with Champion, Halb, Heavy Camel and Blast Furnace/Bloodlines. 9:09 - Georgians is the only civ with SR, SO and HS but no direct siege bonus. 9:30 - Goths is the only civ that has a bonus strictly worse than other civ bonus - Infantry +1 attack against building per age vs Infantry +1 attack per age. 15:30 - Mayans is the only civ that has Eagle but lacks Champion. 15:40 - Mongols is the only civ that has SL but lacks last cav armor 16:00 - Persians is the only civ that lacks THS. Can't believe you have chosen Savar to say it is a Paladin. 17:35 - Saracens is the only civ with all 7 AOC techs and Gambeson. 19:20 - Teutons is the only civ with Paladin, SO and BBT. 20:15 - Vietnamese is the only civ that has Hoardings but no building HP bonus nor masonry. 20:45 - Vikings is the only civ that lacks fire ship. Also only civ without Halb, SO and Thumb Ring.
Or it's because a region in Bohemia isn't suitable for mounted archery as stated on the Trivia section of the Bohemians page at the Age of Empires Wiki.
I'd argue that suicide units like petards and demo ships don't have a DPS since they do an instantaneous burst of damage at second 0 (or at the very least round down to 0) which ends there.
Only Chinese and Sarancens have FU arbs and camels, but Chinese have FU halbs as well I don't know if it's uniqe enough... Also before Armenians came out, Chinese was only civ having BBT but no BBC and HC
Nice video Ornlu, one that I'd like to see is what is available for very civ, basically the common tech tree of all civs in the game. And please, more custom campaigns please, I love to try the ones you share here! Haha
Chinese has a rather open generic tech tree that allows for any style of play and counters despite being an archery civ. Having fully upgraded infantry along with fully upgraded cavaliers and heavy camels and being able to research each tech at a cheaper price in the next age certainly gives a lot of options. That is what I’d say is what makes them interesting. A civ with options. And of course having stronger walls and towers in terms of hp lets them be very defensive.
Poles: The only civ to lack halberdier without having a different anti cav unit (heavy camels, super monks+improved pikes or genoese crossbowmen). Saracens: The only civ to have knights but not cavaliers. And additions to these ones: italians: The only archer civ to have FU hussars. Also quite unique by not having neither halbs nor heavy camels, but they have genoese. Berbers: Have the fastest unit in the game (their trade cog when FU). Mongols: The only civ to lack all 3 imperial eco techs (2 man saw, crop rotation, guilds). malay: The only elephant civ with heresy (might be wrong on this one). malians: only arbs without bracer. celts: only paladins without the last armor.
Dravidians also are the only civ to lack both Gold Shaft and Stone Shaft Mining; not only that, they don't have any compensatory bonus for gold or stone collection!
12:15 "stuff that doesn't die when it attacks over time" People die when they are killed you know. Just because you're correct doesn't mean you're right.
Yeah, there are some civs that don't get some very broad units, Turks Lacking Pikes and Elite Skirmisher, Teutons lacking Light Calvary Persians Lacking 2HSM, Spanish and Bulgarians lacking XBows, Cumans Lacking Heavy Camel and Dravidians Lacking Elite Battle Elefant.
Franks are the only civilization that has Hand Canoneeers without Ring Archer Armor and also no bonuses for said Hand Canoneeers, though this might be debatable due to the situational nature of the hill bonus of the Georgians, who also get Hand Canoneeers without Ring Archer Armor.
I can understand why Franks have the worst Scout line of any Stable/Cavalry civ. Their team bonus focuses around Knights, and everything else is cav in general with a mill, forager, castle bonus, and an infantry unique unit and an upgrade for it to go along with the Stable bonuses.
I don't know why it took me so long to ask this but does Ornlu not count Camels as regional units? Just because practically every Asian and African civ has them? I guess that makes sense, but it would still have been nice to point this out.
As a Burmese, I can confirm that we never knew how to research Leather Archer Armor IRL.
Padded gang
As a Malay, i can confirm that i cost no gold and only take half population space
As a Bengali, I can confirm we have a large population.
As a Mexican. I can confirm I can carry 33% more things than your average guy and I also believe myself to have supremacy over other people which makes me as strong as a guy with a shield and a sword.

And an awful archery range compensated with great scorpions.
Sicilians is the only civ that can train a generic unit line from two buildings: The spear line from the Barracks and the Donjon.
Poles are one of two civs to miss Halberdier without having Heavy Camels or an anti-cav unique unit (the other is Aztecs)
+ not having acces to a damage boosting unique tech to compensate for the lack of halbs (Chieftains for the Vikings, Garland Wars for the Aztecs)
I would argue thay they kinda have obuch as replacement. Every hit they get extra 1 damage so after 4 hits its equel garland wars.
Three civs - the Vikings are also in that category.
Aztecs have Eagles with anti-cav bonus, at least.
Koreans are also the only civ to get all generic gunpowder stuff (Hand Cannoneer, Bombard Cannon, Elite Cannon Galleon and Bombard Tower, that's why I did not say "units") fully upgraded, if you discount Heresy and Faith. 17:26 Saracens are the ONLY civ in AOE2 that have a fully upgraded Archery Range and Monastery. 🤓
Or fully upgraded knight
I believe Saracens have the most categories of unit (ship, trade, cavalry etc.) that receive unique bonuses, getting bonuses for every unit type except infantry (and maybe trade if you don't count the market bonus)
And villagers I guess if you don't use "economic" as a bonus category
appreciate the evident work and care put into this video
Saracens have full Archery Range, Blacksmith and Monastery
I'm not sure about this one but Spanish and Berbers probably get the most mounted/range units available having both cav archers, and two mounted/ranged unique uniques, Conquistadors and Missionaries for Spanish and Camel Arches and Genitours for berbers.

Bohemians get the on-site unit with highest base attack having access to HC.
To add, Berbers also get two with their unique tech Kasbah
Saracens are the only civ Having Knight but no cavaliers.
I thought Bohemians lacked CA, because Chemistry castle age CA would be too strong
still weaker than camel archers, war wagons, and less useful than hun-CA, mangudai, kipchaks.
Chinese I would go with only civ with fully upgraded towers (bombard and keeps) but no hand cannons or bombard cannons
Saracens u kinda missed the obvious Knight but no Cavalier :D
Sometimes you spend so much time looking at something you ignore the obvious 11
I was waiting for this video for quite a while now.

Koreans also have the most Free upgrades I think with 7
Teutons have the highest amount of melee armor bonuses
theres no way its been 4 years, i refuse to accept it
Aoe2de released 20 years ago.... Time flies...

The weird thing is, all 3 of them are coded to have a reload time of 5!
@@OrnLu_AoE, imagine getting imortal suicide units that could attack again and again, how much damage could they do.
Is Saracens the only one with generic fully upgraded cav archers?
I think so!, Japanese and Indians used to, but Japanese recently got a bonus and Indians lost a tech when they became Hindustanis
Yup!
trivia is always fun
Only Chinese and Sarancens have FU arbs and camels, but Chinese have FU halbs as well

This is one of the most interesting Age of Empires videos I’ve ever seen. Awesome stuff.
For Franks, they do have a unique blacksmith missing Bracer and Ring Archer Armor. Not the only unique blacksmith but it's something.
Awesome video. Keep it up! Thanks Ornlu!
This was fun. Wanted to let you know.
Can you do a overview and history of each civ. 45 seems fun to do.
Nice video Ornlu, one that I'd like to see is what is available for very civ, basically the common tech tree of all civs in the game.

I'd be interested in another tier list video: best water civs. Maybe even split it into two videos; best Island civilizations and best Hybrid civs.

If the Britons main difference is the longbow and warwolf ... does that mean their generic units/techs match up exactly with another civ?
Yup! You could also say they are the only "Archer civ" without Thumb Ring

Poles Obuch are the only unit in game that strips armor from other units.
Saracens got full siege worksop, archery range and monastery with bonuses at some point in time for all of them.
But they lack Heavy Scorpion
Dravidians also are the only civ to lack both Gold Shaft and Stone Shaft Mining;
not only that, they don't have any compensatory bonus for gold or stone collection!
12:15 "stuff that doesn't die when it attacks over time"
People die when they are killed you know. Just because you're correct doesn't mean you're right.
Saracens - only civ with a ranged melee cavalry.
Are there other civ that only have FU knight beside Saracens?
Cause other civ at least have access to cavalier right?
Yeah, there are some civs that don't get some very broad units, Turks Lacking Pikes and Elite Skirmisher, Teutons lacking Light Calvary Persians Lacking 2HSM, Spanish and Bulgarians lacking XBows, Cumans Lacking Heavy Camel and Dravidians Lacking Elite Battle Elefant.
Yeah I missed the obvious one that has been the case since 1999 LUL
Poles lack steppe lancer and “winged hussar” upgrade should be unique upgrade for cavalary with lances.
Yo Ornlu, Gujara also have fully upgraded villagers. 😜
The dravidian Stable. famously worse than the Aztec Stable
I can understand why Franks have the worst Scout line of any Stable/Cavalry civ. Their team bonus focuses around Knights, and everything else is cav in general with a mill, forager, castle bonus, and an infantry unique unit and an upgrade for it to go along with the Stable bonuses.
I think Incas are the reason Gambesons shouldn‘t be tied to supplies! Justice for the Inca barracks!
You forgot to mention saracens are the only civ to have fully upgraded knights but ni cavalier
Poland❤
Chinese the only Heavy camel civ without hussar or bonus on Light cavalry
I don't know why it took me so long to ask this but does Ornlu not count Camels as regional units? Just because practically every Asian and African civ has them? I guess that makes sense, but it would still have been nice to point this out.
Persians are the only civ who cannot upgrade past a long swordsman
Armenians and Tatars have Bombard Towers but no Keep. It used to be only Tatars.
I just kill Ornlu the 45th times in Genghis Khan campaign.
Arena Saracens the only Civ with Knights but no Chavalier?
Yes they are!
Can you make more costom campaign content
