- It's time! Lot's to break down
In this video, we review The Grand Campaign and the Battles for Greece DLC. We go through each of the scenarios, analyzing how well they work from both a gameplay and narrative perspective, and then consider how well the campaign works as a cohesive entity.

Battle for greece campaign is super awesome.... I really enjoyed it ....I hope they release next dlc soon... I really excited for it..❤❤
I just went through the campaign the second time and I loved it. Especially all the extra effort put into making all the new graphics. The cheat-code armies are a treat for us casuals. Life is hard enough, games don't have to be. And devs, if you're reading this, you'll be working in shade made by the money I'll be throwing at you for more DLCs like this.
what cheat code armies?
dunno why hot gates is getting so much hate, that switch to playing as the spartans in by far one of the most well known and famous battles in ancient history was so fun, made me think back to my younger self in the editor trying to replicate it. it also clearly wasnt meant to be anything more than fan service, its even hinted at by the short sentence 'didnt think id forget about this did you'. i for one loved it, and its the only mission with any sort of replay-ability since you can always try and kill more persians and beat your previous score.
overall great review, but have to disagree with this specific one, was such a fun surprise.
As a lover of the campaigns and someone who replays them all the time, this dlc was fantastic! I love that the devs thought of exclusive single player content that was more than just like 6 missions!
I really enjoyed the persian part of the Campaign, the mix of build and destroy and more RPG focused scenarios reminds me in a positive way to the old forgotten campaigns without the annoying unlimited unit spam. My only complain is the pacing in some scenarios, sometimes its really overwhelming and difficult to keep track of the events, especially when u are on a timer like in the battle of Marathon. A Re-Addition of the scout reports that explain certain events or mechanics could help there
If every campaign/level was like #15 (pericles's 3 elections) or #16 (i am brasidas) then this would be the greatest single player RTS of all time. Overall still absolutely loved it, don't get me wrong, but those two back to back were unquestionably the standouts far and above any other mission/campaign level in this DLC.
Look forward to probably seeing the Macedon/Alexander DLC before too long!!!
you're goddamn right!
I've completed the Archaemedian and Athenian scenarios and have really enjoyed them. But I think some additional information in the hints should have been given about what specific unique naval technologies do. Also it might be helpful if the devs had provided us with info about how doing specific quests in one mission r (for example if you give the bowl of Menelaus to Pausanius) would affect future missions.
Hi OrNLU grEAT JOB 💥 Big fan of your campaign walkthrough
With this DLC you can tell that design ideas are being freely exchanged AoE2 and AoE4. I thought it was an excellent edition to AoE2 that feels like a genuine evolution in single player content for this game
Honestly, as a noob that can barely break through Hard Scenarios, having some easy ones is an opening to breathe after playing VaV. I don't mind it at all.
Cant wait for the next story/narrative DLC. This one was great in many aspects although it underachieved in others but overall it offered a challenging marathon of hard difficulty and hunting achivements at the same time. Wish we got to play more with the spartans but oh well
We all know the biggest reason you like the battle of marathon was because of Ornucles.
But seriously though, I loved the DLC. It ain't perfect but I enjoyed it. Personally, as a turbo casual who just plays the game casually, the biggest problem I had is the pacing/time limit as well as info overload that can happen during crucial moments.
Other than that, some scenarios did challenge me enough to improve my slow and relaxed playstyle and I love that from time to time. The new units are a treat, I was just really hoping you can create campaign only units like the sparabaras, sickle warriors and tarantine cavs normally but only in the campaign.
For me the campaign has too many time limits, which makes the missions not enjoyable. Voice acting was great though.
17:59 The problem for me is that this scenario feels like a 'tutorial', it's treat like players are the first time meeting Chronicles reworked naval combat, but we already going through a mass naval battle in scenario 7. The 'gaining naval experience' feels slow and unnecessary (except for the story-telling reason). It makes me think that at some point, all 3 parts of scenarios are meant to be separated so some player could play the Athenian part first
I think it was great and I want more of this, I just hope this style of campaign isn't going to be limited to this period. This interconnected campaign felt very similar to Dawn of the Dukes, that I also loved for its narrative. Not that I mind the classical age period, I just see a lot of potential in this concept.
That said, I think the difficulty and complexity could be a bit higher. The build and destroy missions fel a bit too simple, especially the Athenian part, with their hyperbuffed navy.
Also, I haven't seen anybody talk about this, but why are scouts gone? I always enjoyed the bit of trivia of who is where and doing what. I think it added lot to the immersion, especially when I was unfamiliar with an area or period.
I wonder how you can make that aura thing in editor yourself??
Cinematics are the best part of the DLC imo, otherwise I prefer the classic 5/6 missions per campaign layout without any gimmicks like auras across level, etc. although it's a different refreshing experience
I play casually on standard and even I thought it was too lenient on the build and destroy missions. Some missions had zero pressure, literally no attacks and no timer while I builtup my deathball. At least let me pretend I earned the victory…
Wait, it is not a separate data mod no? I can find all the new stuff in the default aoe2 data file in Genie Editor.
Your review is on point. The overall DLC is great and it's a fresh air into the classic AoE, but in almost all of the scenarios they just give you an unstoppable army/navy so it's somewhat not very challenging imo
This Challenging part I never get, 99% of missions are easy and even that 1% is really hard only the first time
Far too many dull underwhelming scenarios.
