    Dude, i just wanted to let you know that this is probably one of the most isnpiring things i've ever seen done until now with Geometry nodes, Shaders, Math etc. Following you since i've found your painterly shader and was wondering if you would try something more complex with it. Glad i was right :)! Really amazing stuff! This solution is far superior to the older one, but the older one has probably set you up to create this. Now... we just need a printer from geometry nodes for real life!

    Geometry nodes are basically the reason I gave up on learning blender, it's like learning mandarin. But when I see your gumroad I realise it is a blessing that you genuinely make it accessible for anyone willing to at least try expressing ideas.

      You don't have to learn Geometry Nodes, other than the basics like scattering sugar on a donut. There are many more things you need to learn first, like basic modeling, lighting and so on.

      @@pianoatthirty I wouldn't say it's a waste of time. There are many simple every day things you can do so much quicker in GN than regular keyframing. But there's a difference between basic understanding which will take a few hours for someone who already knows Blender, and advanced use.

    This is truly one of the most creative things I've seen in a blender video. The fact that each stroke follows the form is truly remarkable. Maybe I'm over reacting a bit, but I've been using blender for roughly six months and I've never thought you could do something like that

    How taxing is this for animation? How are render times vs less complicated scenes?

    • @Tradigital

      It definitely depends on the scene, but the overall tax on your system is not that bad. I have a laptop with a 2070 max Q and my times were only maybe adding 5 seconds per frame with good settings

    May I know what is the difference btw "Blender Live Paint Filter" and "Blender Illustration Shader"?

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, the blender illustration shader is a material you can set on individual objects in your scene. It is quite taxing and can take a while to set up. The live paint filter is a camera filter that will take whatever is in the scene, and make it into a painting automatically. This includes the premade materials and that are already applied to the objects in your scene. Watching the how to’s of both products on TH-cam will help better understand the difference

    Nice work!

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it will work on any object you have in your scene. The flickering is not actually possible to remove though. You have to think about this if it was a real painting for each frame. Think more like stop motion and less smooth animation. Check out Loving Vincent if you haven’t seen this effect before.

  • @S-I-T
    @S-I-T 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Very cool. If you used a simple envmap shader (similar to a matcap shader in Zbrush) using an image of a tangent spaced normal sphere, could you sample the colours from the scene with it applied to decide direction of stroke?
    Great video btw I've liked and subscribed 👍

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      So at the moment it only uses the mesh contour and crease to apply the stroke direction, I also have an option for point light cast shadow lights, but it needs the light data to work. So an environment map would not add any additional direction, but the colors should display through the filter.

  • @MrMargaretScratcher
    @MrMargaretScratcher ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I tried to figure this out but didn't get very far - I'd really like to feature the canvas close up, maybe at an angle with a shallow depth of field, as it it really shows off the fact that it is a 'real' object with thick oil strokes (as opposed to some sort of 2D filter', but it seems everything is set up to project from the camera's view. Even if I create another camera to view the canvas up close, the strokes disappear as I get closer/off axis - any ideas?

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that is a bit difficult in live view. One thing you could do is purchase the advance version on my gumroad. It has a baking option so you can render out the base color and normal map of the painting and then apply it somewhere else for the off axis photos

      Yeah at the moment this requires geometry data so it can’t really be done in compositing. I have created a image to painting tool that you can also find on my gumroad. It isn’t perfect, but it can be used as a separate compositor after you render out.

    crazy work brother, but you lost me pretty quickly since i am not that deep into geo nodes, but i remember that i just pay money for add ons in a similar fashion XD But really nice that you put this inofrmation out there, and eventhought i don't understand everything i can feel your passion and joy from solving a complex task and sharing it with the world! This i can resonate with 100%. Keep it up!

    This is amazing! Is there a chance you are working on a filter for a watercolor effect?

      I have had people ask for that, I plan on doing it in the future but at the moment it isn’t something I am working on.

    Gotta appreciate the absolute mountain of work it takes figuring this type of stuff out. I've spent years of time into tinkering in 3D software over the years, and still this is some of the most impressive and inspiring work I've seen. Now best let that hair you ripped out grow back for a bit

    Amazing possibilites with this thing! How do you get the group inputs from Camera Res X, Camera Res Y and Camera FOV in the Canvas group?

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is just a group input where you have to place them manually.

    • @PINKAS1
      @PINKAS1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Tradigital Ok, so in the input I have to somehow manually link the camera properties into the node, am I on the right track?

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, if you are using a group input node, just go to the modifier properties panel and you can input the X/Y resolution as well as the FOV.

    • @PINKAS1
      @PINKAS1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Tradigital Ok sorry if I'm being dense but i really can't seem to find a way to import those properties from the camera into the node group input. In the panel i can make an input and give it a value, but it's not reallhy linked to anything just whatever value i give it

    WOW! Amazing solution to a problem inspired by the beautiful The Dam Keeper.
    Your editing and narration are aces, too. The 2019 montage and your reaction was funny and relatable.
