    You are a next-level technical artist. This is one of the most impressive things I've seen introduced to the Blender community. I bought it. I love it. It works out of the box beautifully. This tutorial was extremely helpful too. It really gets me wondering what other kinds of art styles are possible to make filters for? Cubism? Or just different kinds of brush strokes, like more circular dabs, or splatters...or watercolor!? Oh yeah, and the normal maps used to make the impasto is a "stroke" of genius.

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey! So it does not work in cycles. The only thing you can do is render out your scene without the filter in cycles and then change over to eevee and input the cycles render into the input at the top of the geometry nodes modifier list. This will take the scene that you have in eevee while using the colors and values from the cycles render.

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes you can! you can just create a random curve object and then use the pen tool while in camera view to draw out the custom curves for your scene. Just make sure that custom curve object is in your scene input!

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you adjust the opacity of the min and max you can get a bit more of a water color effect, just be aware that you will have to raise your rendering samples and probably the opacity threshold to keep your details. It’s not perfect, but it is the closest I have to a water color effect at the moment.

    Hi, just bought your tool kit the other day. They are awesome!
    I wanted to ask a question, how can I change the size of the "canvas" to match the size in the camera sensor settings.
    It turns out that the field of view increases, but the canvas stays in the center without changing

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, I made it so you would always see the edges, but if you just want to see canvas, the best way to adjust that is by changing the actual focal length of the camera and not changing it on the filter properties. Hope that makes sense. Let me know if you run into any more issues.

      Hey if your initial model has color, you can bake it to a color attribute and then use the names attribute in the “vertex color group” input to transfer the colors. If you go into my example file you can see how in the material the “Col” attribute is how it is being displayed in the materials. It is confusing and hard to explain in simple terms, but it works! • @Tradigital

    I love this! How does the Additional Line Art function? What kind of input does it require?

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, it’s a vertex group. So if you want a specific area to be detected as a line, you can select those edges, add them to a vertex group, and then rename that input (additional line art) to the same name as the group. Another option is you can draw curves in your scene and if they are in the scene collection, it will separate them and use those curves as line art.

    Is it possible to somehow bake the paint filter directly on the 3d model as a color map?

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So I plan on making a baking mode in the future for stuff like this. Sadly, blender does not allow baking in eevee, so the only way to make it work is to makeshift things a bit by unwraping the character, and rendering out the image of their basecolor and normal map.

    • @gevikshanazari9972
      @gevikshanazari9972 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Tradigital Thank you it's working as I was looking for. Would be great to be able to set the direction of the strokes as well. For example if you have a face model and want to implement the filter as texture I would be looking to emphasize the flow of facial shapes in the texture. :)

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gevikshanazari9972 yeah I will have to experiment with that. I think it would mostly be determined by the silhouette of the UV unwrap. So if you want it to flow in a specific way, your unwrap will determine it.

    Hello, it's an amazing and wonderful filter, I really love it so much!!
    I got just a question, I've been using it for some hours now and I'm trying to use it in a dark scene, however I notice that at the top of the camera (one third) when everything is set up, there is a lighter place at the top of the camera, is it normal and can we remove it ? But it is automaticaly removed when I turn the baking to 1. I think the lighter space at the top of your video is also a little bit visible.

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, that can be removed. What you’re seeing is the area light above the canvas. I added that for dark scenes where there is no light on the filter itself. If you want to keep the light but get rid of the flares, best thing to do is adjust the area light size and strength by selecting it in the outliner and going to its light properties.

  • @moonsayshi1955
    @moonsayshi1955 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Amazing.
    Question: is there a way to have the stroke direction to be aware of the edges somehow? for example, the left side has noticeable stroke direction that follows along the edge which seems "natural" to me, however the strokes between the right side and the top sides are ignoring the edge line and going into each sides, which results in the edge feels beveled. Though it's tiny little aspect compared to how polished the end look is, was just wondering if that's something that the filter can solve somehow.
    Anyway, Great work. Love the filter.

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey! The main reason is because of how the line art is created. I just need to keep improving the way that the lineart is being created because to be honest, it isn’t perfect and requires quite a bit of tweaking to really give the final result. This is very interesting, and more complex than I can understand. One thing I noticed in your videos is it doesn't look like the paint defines the planes of the cube. A painter would make strokes in different directions for each plane, each side of the cube. Objects would be reduced to a low poly representation, with each polygonal facet being brushed in a different direction. Is this possible with your filter? You explain about the line art, but I'm not sure I understand. To me, lines are not as important as planes.

      So this is most likely one of two things.
      1. your opacity settings. If you raise the minimum and maximum opacity to 1 then you should start to see less blending and more bump between the strokes.
      2. You might be in a baking mode where all that is displayed is the base colors with no other details. Just reset baking to 0 and it should fix the issue.

    Hey! I use the filter in the 2.1 version~
    Particularly i've noticed that in vidoes with it it runs SO much faster than mine, including this one!

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, sorry for the late reply. It’s hard to know exactly what could be happening here without taking a closer look at the file. Best thing I can say is it is probably your mesh density that is causing issues, but if you are probably going to want to look into your system specs as well. This is a pretty heavy filter and it isn’t meant to be used through animation testing. It is more of a composite effect that you enable before rendering to give it a cool effect on top.

    • @LemeMeek
      @LemeMeek 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh it's totally alright! It was a consistant problem with all of my scenes and files, my system is pretty beefy. I reduced my mesh densities with lower-poly substitutes and it vastly improved the performance of the filter. I am just so used to high poly I didn't realise it's pretty impractical for still painting-type renders! @@Tradigital

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It uses the mesh data to generate line art that then influences the flow, scale, and density of the paint strokes. If your mesh is super high poly then it will just take an extremely long time for the line art to compute, or it will just crash straight up.
      One solution would be to not include your objects in the scene collection and instead just make a new collection with a curve object. You can draw out what you want the flow to follow instead of using the mesh data.
      Not ideal for animation since it will change overtime, but it will help with performance a lot

      Hey, so for an effect like that, I believe that for something that complex, rendering out the two separate and then combining them in post would be better. I would also recommend that you render out the realistic background alone, then render the character with everything else being shadow catchers. This can then be input into the cycles render input on my filter to give you the effect I think you might be looking for.

      @@Tradigital Hello, i just got the pixel pasto, is there anyway to make the strokes not randomize on every frame of my rendered animation?

    • @Tradigital
      @Tradigital  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They technically are not randomizing per frame. They are following whatever the animation does. So if you have a lot of high framerate movement, the filter is going to do the same and seem quite jittery as it tries to keep up, but if your animation is slow and doesn’t make sharp changes, then the filter will follow this and do the same.
      I would recommend rendering out in a very low fps between 6-12 to get the desired look you are after. This effect is not made for high FPS because that would be unrealistic if it was all handpainted in real life. For instance, the Van Gogh movie from a few years back that was completely hand painting locked itself to 12 frames per second and sometimes even went lower. that was a monumental task as you can guess with the thousands of paintings having to be completed.
