  • Volvo has announced it will be abandoning its target to produce only electric vehicles by the year 2030.
Speaking with Sky News host Rita Panahi, geologist Ian Plimer claimed the market is saying “no” to electric cars causing popular brands to rethink their EV targets.
“We’ve had Volvo, we’ve had Mercedes, we’ve had Volkswagen - they have all said, ‘no we are not going to go down that path’. Even Bentley who are known for their sports cars have said ‘no we are not going electric,’ said Mr Plimer.
“The market is saying something very different, and people are saying ‘no we don’t want electric.’
“If elite people want to have ideas about filling our roads with electric cars, you are nuts.”

I am from Sweden. I sold my Volvo soon after they sold to the Chinese and will never buy a Volvo again so I really don´t care what cars they manufacture...I feel sorry for the employees that have to work for a company that tried to walk the woke-path into the mist and eventually over the cliff edge...It is just obvious beyond belief that we cannot build up an infrastructure around battery cars. It takes just physics, simple matemathics and just some small understanding of mining industry to realize how absurd that idea is. Come back with the thought when we have solved supra conductors in ambient temperature, maybe...Hybrids, where you can use a home charger overnight, ok fine, but on the road...it has to be a liquid fuel.

The virtue signalling by politicians over EV’s has been a financial disaster.
That’s why they’re politicians, they couldn’t hold down a proper job.

The best thing about EV's is that they identify idiots.

The infrastructure to support EV is extremely poor. California which has been really pushing for EV only has been experiencing brown outs with so many people trying to recharge their cars and seriously overtaxing the electric grid. Also, with Volvo being chinese owned, I'm not surprised they are dumping the EV goals.

    • @richardweyland116

CA has been having brownouts for decades because it's run by Democrats.
There aren't enough raw materials to build enough infrastructure. Ever.

You literally cannot replace all the cars with electric ones. It's impossible. But they don't want you driving to begin with so it will still be pushed for.

Because companies are incompetent instead of asking Tesla for help they will risk going belly up and no EV's are not numbered their will be more EV's on the road than gas cars by 2029.Like Musk said there will be 9 auto companies left and Tesla will be one of them and I am holding plenty of shares of the stock.Go Musk

Most of the cars are not manufactured in China and they concentrate on trucks (diesel engines) and hybrids. Sounds like your prejudice might be limiting your brain efficiency.😂

The math says it all. That 0.04%ppm (C02 quantity) can control the entirety of 4.2Billion cubic kilometers of atmospheric temperature is illogical at the least.

Other states aren’t operating at the same insanity level as this. If CA would try and secede from the U.S. I don’t think there would be any resistance or opposition at all.

It's went up in flames. Very much literally so did Mercedes. "A Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle (EV) which reportedly caught alight in a South Korean car park last week reportedly caused damage to at least 70 cars, and resulted in more than a dozen people being hospitalised" I cut and pasted
Warning don't park near a EV in a undercover car park. The toxic fumes make you pass out in 10 seconds. "A massive factory fire that began after several lithium batteries exploded has killed at least 22 people in South Korea.
The blaze broke out on Monday morning at the Aricell plant in Hwaseong city, about 45km (28 miles) south of the capital Seoul."
Saving the environment? "Congo is the world's biggest producer of cobalt. A lot of the metal is extracted by artisanal miners who employ child labour and where safety is not observed. More than 40 000 children are working in hazardous conditions in cobalt mines in the Katanga province alone, according to the UN."
Stupid cars not environmentally friendly at all. Definitely not safe.

And the electricity is made by coal and gas powered plants and the depreciation on an EV is mind boggling. Porsche Taycan Turbo S for example, new 258.000 Euro, 10.000 kilometer and 8 months later 180.000 euro as an example

Give this comment a like… If from the outset you knew EV’s had to be politically motivated even though your still not sure why, given they’re an environmental catastrophe, and you could forsee the EV market collapse 2yrs ago.

Electric car needs EV.. EV made from lithium to create their batteries and it batteries need electricity and if the weather nice and sunny 365 days a year that would be great but if not? Back again..to reusable energy to support it 😅

EV adoption is turning into a fizzer. Ubiquitous & reliable charging infrastructure catering for the millions of home renters is many decades away, even in advanced economies. The world does not produce enough electricity to satisfy all-electric motoring. EV sales will not cross into the "early majority" market for decades. Sales will flatline below 15 percent of the motoring market.
