73. Sunken NARROWBOAT - Recovering and removing sunken home.

- We come across a not so happy boater as we travel the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal that changes back to the Coventry Canal at Whittington. Paul returns to a bit of carpentry work and we get to see a fascinating event as a sunken boat is recovered and removed at Huddlesford.

Thanks for another great start to my day. That grumpy bugger at the first bridge made me realise that I haven't seen any grumpy narrowboaters in any of the narrowboat channels that I follow. You all appear to be a very content and happy bunch of people. Then again, I suppose any grumpy ones won't be broadcasting to the world via TH-cam!
Trust me Neil, they are about. As a whole the boating community is lovely but you do also get grumpy buggers along the way 😉🤣😊
Yes so sad to see some ones small boat off to the scrap yard poor KOURA the last time on the canal .
A very sad sight seeing a sunken boat. You see it a lot more often then you should really along certain stretches of canal. It was fascinating to see them recover it though. 😄
I passed that sunken boat on 18 October 2023 on my way back from Fradley. It had sunk some considerable time before that judging by the state of it that day.
Yes an elderly man used to live on it but sadly passed away in hospital. Thanks for watching 😊

We are sorry you encountered the miserable boater at the first bridge. He was absolutely at fault, coming through so fast and he kept the power on even when he saw you were in reverse. We’ve all met these sort. Most boaters aren’t like that. Happy cruising. Nona and Chris on NB Kagran

Yes luckily they seem few and far between 😃
The boat sank last summer. There was no one onboard, because the owner was rushed to hospital and unfortunately died. With no one or NOK to look after the boat, it took on water and sank.

Hi. I used to get into those problems, best to knock it into tickover and point it at the bank. My default used to be reverse but, just as happened to you, you end up going directly at what you want to avoid. Contact sport, a phrase coined by a rather affluent actor who used to cause untold amounts of damage to other boats at the marina I am now in shouting "its a contact sport" at anyone who dared to complian. Keep up the good work, the vlogs are great.

We filmed our fist vlog in that exact mooring spot, by Hademoor house bridge. Lovely spot 👌 I remember it well as thats where I had to go for a swim to fish our dog out the canal 🤣😂
That sunken boat has been there ages, it was in that exact spot by The Plough back in June (albeit still afloat then)
It's quite a sad story really as apparently the man that used to live on it was taken into hospital and sadly the boat started taking in water. Has your dog been in the canal since or was that a one time swim that he had? 😃
@uponreflection we're down in London at the minute and the condition of some of the boats that are still lived in is quite upsetting 😔
It wasn't the first time she'd been in and it wasn't the last either but I've learned my lesson and she's not been in for a while now. She's just not allowed off the lead when we're near the water (a bit of a pain when we live on it) she has a passion for moorhens and if she sees one she'll be in after it, she couldn't care less about ducks swans or geese but for some reason she just can't help herself when it comes to moorhens 🤷♂️

The A-hole in the other boat needs to lighten up a bit. And he should have moved to the side after coming under the bridge. I don't think he even honked his horn, did he!?!?

No horn honked and if he had just slowed a but to allow us to tuck our front end in then all would have been good but he unfortunately came charging through and then gave us attitude for his wrong doing 🤣 nevermind, at least people like that are few and far between on the canals 😊

What I don't understand is when this happens boaters never shame them by saying their boat name. Then perhaps they'd shape up and not be such asses.

Finaly refloated and off for scrap, that boat has spent more time on the bottom in the last 3 years than I care to remember and I know of 2 other spots where it was sunk, not polluting the water any more 🙏 but it is always sad to see a sunken boat and there can be reasons for various problems.
Yes this one had quite a sad story behind it really but good to see it removed and was fascinating to watch it be refloated. Thanks for watching 😊

I wonder if they will ever haul out that other one (in a past video) or break it up to make it safe for all boats in that section of the canal? 🙂nz*

@@uponreflection *Liz, Weather is either sunny, cloudy, overcast or could be raining during Autumn. Yesterday (Wed) I broke a tooth (top front tooth) whilst eating a ice block (which wasn't very hard either) so off to the dentist today to see what needs doing after an xray done. So tomorrow (Friday morn nz time) I am getting it all fixed with a filling and other work done on it. Got me Flu Jab & also the latest Covid (number7) jab done today as well. Second tooth to break within 4 months. Apparently teeth get brittle as one gently goes thru life!!!.*

The problem with yer man at the beginning was yeah he was going to fast and would /should have seen you - the knuckle on the bridge meant you could not get tight in- where are you now ( in real time)
Agreed, he was going far too fast, he just had to slow down and wait for us ro finish reversing so we could then pull the front round but instead he just came charging through. We just past Fradley At the mo. Thanks for watching 😊
